Tobihabeeb:
Why taking the match outside ur fan base? The game lacked home support and it led to defeat. I remember that club during orjizor time.
Because of FIFA and CAF.

FIFA wants this to be a showpiece event and so they want matches to take place in some of the best stadiums on the continent. This is so that they can make money from TV viewers outside the continent.

The African Football League is the brainchild of FIFA. FIFA believes that African football can raise a lot of money if the biggest and most popular clubs play in a special league. It believes that this money can then be invested in infrastructure like stadiums and training grounds.

However, critics say that football authorities opposed a super league in Europe, but they are encouraging one in Africa and this is hypocrisy. They say that the AFL will not raise as much money as FIFA thinks and they argue that it might damage already existing competitions like the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.

This is the inaugural edition of the competition.

Very many Nigerians had taken to social media to slam Enyimba.

Enyimba Football Club of Aba lost 0-1 to Wydad Athletic Club of Casablanca at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo in the brand new African Football League on Sunday, but the attention of Nigerian football fans was focused on the jersey of Innocent Gabriel Okey. It looked like his jersey number was handwritten with chalk.

Very many Nigerians slammed Enyimba on Nairaland, Twitter and Facebook and the club has now provided an explanation for the strange jersey.

According to Enyimba, there was a mix up when Innocent Gabriel was being registered and he was registered with the number 3, instead of 5. He had a perfectly normal printed number 5 jersey, but he couldn't wear it because he was registered as number 3, so they had to quickly create a number 3 jersey for him.

Adepoju Tobi Samuel is a football journalist that covers the Nigerian league.

Enyimba's response on the subject matter;

During the registration with CAF, he was registered as number 3 jersey instead of number 5.

It was a costly error from the Team Secretary.

They found out when the match was about to start, and there was no way CAF would allow him to play with the number he wasn't registered with.

This is still going to get to domestic environs.
That has always been the case and in fact the recent increase in enforcement activities actually began with private homes. Its just that they don't get as much attention as markets.

I remember when they were distributing and pasting notices on my street earlier this year (you might not notice because you are not contravening the law).

For clarity sake.

The Maracana Football Pitch is managed and controlled by the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government. The Nathaniel Idowu Foundation renovated the pitches and got Wilfred Ndidi and Karim Adeyemi to build hostels at the complex.

SmartyPants:
Stop supporting him how though? You paid his ticket to travel abroad? Oh, you were the scout that discovered him? Or is it that you have a special agreement with Leicester to fire the man once you withdraw your support?

Why talk like a crazy person?

You are not relevant to Ndidi in any way. I'm certain he is not even aware of your comments here - what is it that makes you feel you are relevant? Is it the fact people are replying you?

Lol!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yemi Idowu is the son of Chief Nathaniel Idowu. He is a non-executive director of Sterling Bank and was once chairman of Sterling Capital. He also serves as chairman of Leyland Nigeria.

He is a director of the Lagos Junior League and the current chairman of Nathaniel Boys Football Club where the likes of Leicester City F.C. midfield maestro Wilfred Ndidi started his career from.

He runs the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation which renovated the Maracana football pitch in Ajegunle.

The Maracana Pitch at Tolu in Ajegunle is a famous football ground where many Super Eagles players have been discovered. Along with the Navy Pitch (also in Ajegunle), Maracana pitch has been the breeding ground for stars like Emmanuel Amunike and Wilfred Ndidi.

Chief Nathaniel Idowu was a multimillionaire who pumped a lot of money into Nigerian football in the 1970s, '80s and '90s. He was the chairman of Leyland (they made trucks and buses at their plant in Ibadan), owned several hotels (if I remember correctly, he owned Newcastle Hotel in Anthony Village) and I remember that he also owned a bank, but I can't remember which one. He also had shares in Tottenham Hotspur football club. He pumped so much money into Nigerian football that the Federal Government appointed him to the NFA board. One of his children, Yemi Idowu took over his businesses after he died (he was behind the renovation of the Maracana Pitch in Ajegunle), while another of his children, Phillips Idowu competed for Great Britain in track and field athletics. Chief Nathaniel Idowu died in 2010.

The Nathaniel Idowu Foundation was responsible for renovating the Maracana Football Pitch in Ajegunle.

I am very proud to be part of this journey and very grateful to Nigeria for supporting my Sports development 🙏🏾🇳🇬

On October 21st, the Maracana Stadium in Ajegunle welcomed a special visit from Nigerian Sports Minister Senator John Enoh, HRM Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Oniru of Iru Land, and Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA Chairman Fatai Ayoola. They toured the new facilities donated by myself and Karim Adeyemi. 🏟️

They were impressed by the two residential buildings named after myself and Karim Adeyemi, each housing 96 fully air-conditioned beds, 24-hour power and solar backup, treated water supply, and top-notch shower and changing rooms.

It was an honor to have the Minister share his vision for youth sports development in Nigeria with us. The day ended with an 11 a side football match in honor of the Minister. ⚽️

Want to give my thanks the support and belief in our vision for sports in Nigeria!

Wow @naptu2, great job on this thread!

I started following the Eagles during qualification for Senegal 92 and you have done justice to Yekini's great impact.
I will like to add that Westerhof used the ANC qualification games to try out home based players but he would always include Yekini from Setubal because as long as you have Yeking in the team, Victoria Ascerta!
I remember those games against Burkina Faso, Benin, etc very well. Those were games Westerhof used to try out players like Inienger, Monye, and even Finidi before he went to Ajax.

You missed the 94 World Cup qualifying games with Congo. Same group with South Africa in the first group games. We beat Congo away via a Keshi free kick and then with an almost all home based team, beat them in Enugu 2-0 but not before the crowd started singing "All we are saying, no more home based". Wow. Those were the games.

I remember I used to go watch the SE training at the National Stadium in Lagos. Oliseh is right, you could have almost 30k fans there just to watch them train. Amazing!

Thank you for the memories Yekini.

Thank you for this thread @naptu2
Thank you.

The typical problems

There is a system in place in Lagos. You need to adhere to this system in order not to get into trouble.

There are private waste collectors that have been licensed by the State Government. You are expected to choose one of these licensed collectors (generally known as PSP) and use them. They give you a bill and you pay at the bank. The State Government takes a small percent of that money and the rest goes to the PSP.

1) You will get into trouble if you don't choose a PSP.

2) You will get into trouble if you don't pay the bill.

3) You will get into trouble if you don't use the PSP.

4) Continuing from 3 above, it is illegal to use cart pushers, burn your refuse or dispose of it in any other way. You must use the PSP.

5) You must provide a waste bin (either by yourself or you can buy one from LAWMA) and you'll get into trouble if you don't have the right size, type (in some cases the bin must have wheels) or number of bins. You must also ensure that you clean your environment and put the waste properly in the bin.

Tokunboh Wahab is the Lagos State commissioner for the environment and water resources.

These are the things that usually lead to premises being sealed.
