Super Falcons GK Chiamaka Nnadozie leads Paris FC to historic Champions League win over Wolfsburg
The Parisians were the underdogs against the former champions, but they pulled off a near-impossible win away from home
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie saved a crucial penalty as Paris FC defeated Wolfsburg 0-2 on Wednesday night to reach the group stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time in a decade.
Ahead of kick-off, Wolfsburg, two-time winners of the competition, held the advantage after forcing Paris FC to a 3-3 draw at the Stade Charléty in Paris seven days ago.
A win of any manner at the AOK Stadion in Wolfsburg would have sealed a group stage spot for the seven-time German Bundesliga champions.
And it seems the only possible outcome for the She-wolves that have not lost in 12 of their last 13 UEFA Champions League Women’s games.
But Paris FC had a different plan in mind, and the French side should have taken the lead in the 12th minute, but Faëtane Thiney missed from the penalty spot.
In the 22nd minute, Paris FC nearly got punished for that miss, but Nnadozie was relieved to see Pajor’s cracking effort crash off the woodwork.
And with seven minutes left in the first half, the visitors stunned the home fans as they took the lead through Julie Dufour.
Five minutes after the interval, Nnadozie made a crucial save from Pajor’s attempt at goal as the Germans searched for the equaliser.
On the hour mark, Wolfsburg were awarded a penalty kick following a foul on star girl Popp, but Nnadozie won the psychological battle by saving Dominique Janssen’s shot from 12 yards out.
Paris FC defended their lead like their lives depended on it, and deep into stoppage time, substitute Louise Fleury doubled the French ladies’ advantage to snuff out any hopes of a Wolfsburg comeback.
Nnadozie made two key saves afterwards as Paris FC won 5-3 on aggregate, and advanced to the group stage for the first time since 2013 when they reached the semifinal of the Champions League.
Revolution2022: If you build house you know go construct gutter beside the house? That is a gutter not a canal.
No, it's not even a gutter, it is a kitchen drain.
They filled in the canal and turned it into a gutter. Do you think you know that place better than the government and people that live there? That canal was meant to take water to the Ikota River. They blocked it and turned it into a little gutter.
Now I believe that you are just trolling because your posts make no sense. It is very clear from the video that they filled in the canal, turned part of it into a small gutter and even completely blocked it (or maybe you don't have data to watch the video). Where does the Ikota Canal begin and where does it end? You have even abandoned your original argument and you are now just chasing shadows.
I'm not interesting in meaningless arguments or arguments just for arguments sake or trying to have the last word.
Revolution2022: That road you circle with a red marker is a concrete road not a canal
1) I didn't circle anything.
2) The person that drew the circle did not say that it was a canal. He was pointing out that the property there was built after the government had warned the residents that they were building on the path of the canal. You can see where the canal was diverted at the bottom of the picture.
For those of that are writing about approval, let me remind you of the tower that collapsed at Gerard Road in 2021. Lagos State Government officials had gone to seal the construction site because of contraventions. The developer used policemen to fight them.
There are people in this country that believe that they can do whatever they want and nothing will stop them. Some believe that they have enough money to wage propaganda war against government.
There is nothing like nobody will build without approval, because the reality is that there is nothing that Nigerians can't do (including building without approval).
Again, we are not asking for argument based on assumptions. Show proof of the approval That's all.
Revolution2022: At the beginning of construction,if a building in Lagos is not approved, the Lagos State government officials will stop construction and mark the building with a red paint. If the contractors ignors the warning the building will be demolished.Officials of lagos walk around the state in a daily basis.
Once again …. NOBODY will ‘approve’ this place for you to build on, This is insane. Always do your due diligence before building or buying land, and for some people that want to build inside all these “estates” of nowadays, Pls don’t take ‘assurance’ most especially word of mouth from the so called Estate association, Get your proper approval from the Lagos State Government.
Lemme make u guys laugh …. So while they were begging for their property not to be removed from the canal path since 2020, Another “developer” quickly rushed to erect his own property on the same path (marked red), Hoping that Lagos State Government will look away when the building is fully built, people have mind in this country. Anyways the Commissioner @tokunbo_wahab will remove everything on the path, so that the water can flow into the Ikota river and reduce the massive flooding of the axis. The curved part at the bottom of this picture is what they did to bend the canal and force it into a “gutter” 😀😀
CHIOMAEZEH: So, who approves the building plan? ....Hmm
The residents have admitted that they had no approval.
Warnings have been issued to them for a long time. To make matters worse, after the government issued warnings, some other people still went and built structures in the same canal.
Hedonisco: What does "removal" mean? Does it mean that he will be 'removed' from the Police Force completely and made to face trial for extortion? Or does it merely mean that he would be removed as DPO of the division and simply redeployed to yet another division as DPO to continue his madness?
We are not serious in this country.
There are processes. The commissioner of police has no power to just remove him from the police force, but he can remove him from his position as DPO. He is undergoing orderly room trial, therefore he cannot be transferred to another place to act as DPO.
The result of the orderly room trial will be a punishment recommendation. It could be dismissal, it could be demotion, etc. Then the convening authority will accept or reject the recommendation.
It's after this process that he can be made to stand trial if necessary.
He has rights and the police must respect his rights and follow the process, otherwise he can sue them.
An engineer, Ibrahim Saliu, has accused some policemen attached to the Meiran Police Station in Lagos State of alleged extortion.
He said the policemen extorted N200,000 from him on Saturday.
Saliu told PUNCH Metro that trouble started when the policemen detained him and his brother, Olaiya Murtala, for not providing an identity card or the receipts for the iPhones found with his brother.
He said he had sent his brother to his shop with six iPhones but during a stop-and-search, the policemen intercepted and took him to the police station.
He added that when he rushed to the police station to secure his brother’s release, he was asked to provide his ID card and receipts for the phones which were not available at the time.
He explained, “I’m an engineer and I sell phones. On Saturday morning, I gave my brother five iPhones and keys to open the shop while I went to withdraw money from the bank and would join him later.
“About two hours later, he called that some policemen on patrol had collected the phones from him and taken him to the station.
“When I got there, the DPO asked me to produce my ID and the receipts for the phones. I told him I didn’t have them. I told him I sell phones, but he didn’t believe me. I then told him that though I didn’t have all the receipts, I could take them to my shop which was close by but they still refused.
“The DPO took the iPhones, removed the warranty stickers on them, and declared that my brother and I are thieves and armed robbers.
“The next thing I heard was the DPO giving them an order to detain us and that we would be locked up for stealing and armed robbery. We were surprised that we started begging.”
Saliu added that the DPO later asked them to pay N500,000 to secure their freedom, saying that they begged him until they settled for N200,000 which the policemen insisted must be paid in cash.
According to him, one of the policemen led him to a nearby POS operator where he withdrew N182, 000 in addition to the N20,000 he had on him and handed it over to the policemen after which they were released.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “If the allegation is proven to be true, that is wrong and unprofessional. In the meantime, I urge the complainant to get across to the Complaint Response Unit of the state police command and that issue will be looked into.”
