Cars stolen from DC, Maryland and Virginia intercepted at Port of Baltimore
by Mitch BlacherMon, July 24th 2023
WASHINGTON (7News) — Surveillance cameras captured a team of four skilled thieves breaking into a Bethesda Mercedes dealership. In roughly 15 minutes, they maneuvered four Mercedes, including a $200,000 Mercedes G-Wagon, outside and escaped.
These thefts are among 55,000 auto crimes committed in Montgomery County over the past three years, according to police records.
Months after the thefts, the 7News I-Team was at the Port of Baltimore when U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents intercepted two of the cars stolen from the Bethesda dealership. The cars, valued at more than $400,000, were discovered before they disappeared overseas.
The shipping container manifest indicated one car was destined for West Africa, but an X-ray scan revealed three cars inside. 7News' cameras rolled as U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents opened the shipping container’s gate, revealing the dealer plates intact and providing critical evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Police have not made any arrests for the thefts, but the cars have been returned to the dealership.
“I couldn’t even believe it. I couldn’t believe it. I figured these were long gone,” Bethesda Euro Motorcars General Manager Jim Willard said.

Meanwhile there's a huge argument about goalkeepers in South Africa.
Some people say that Andile Dlamini should have been the first choice keeper, but SAFA officials want to punish her for leading the protest that occurred before the world cup, so they ordered the coach not to pick her. They say that she's one of the best goalkeepers in Africa and was shortlisted for African Player of the Year and so she should start.
A few other people say that Dlamini has lost form since the Nations Cup and that Kaylin Swart is doing well as first choice keeper.
We are deeply concerned about the negative tilting of a very harmless statement by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, about his deep concern and that of the Senate on the plight of the ordinary Nigerians as a result of the prevailing economic situation in the country.
The statement "Let The People Breathe" made during Plenary on 26th July 2023, was made by Senator Akintunde Abiodun while speaking on the motion to halt the planned electricity tariff hike.
We want to assure the general public that all matters discussed during Senate sessions are of utmost importance and are treated with great seriousness by the President of the Senate and his Distinguished colleagues.
It is crucial to clarify that the intentions of the mover of the motion and the comments of the President of the Senate were never to make light of the hardships, suffering and economic challenges faced by Nigerians at this critical juncture.
The purpose of the proposal was to firmly reject any plan of increasing electricity tariffs for Nigerians, considering the ongoing economic challenges that Nigerians are faced with.
The primary focus of the current National Assembly under the Chairmanship of Senator Akpabio is on the implementation of effective and well-structured policies that truly benefit the people. He has repeatedly assured Nigerians that the current Senate will work for all Nigerians.
The President of the Senate deeply empathises with Nigerians and has never considered the current economic crisis in the country as a matter of jest.
His unwavering commitment lies in serving the best interests of the Nigerian people with the release of the ministerial list and the subsequent screening and swearing-in of the ministers we have high hopes that the newly appointed officials will promptly address the challenges and bring the much needed relief and succour to all citizens, thereby, easing the current hardship and pains experienced by Nigerians.
