Palliatives: Plateau State Prepares for Transport Subsidy With Distribution of 150,000 Transit Cards

Plateau State Government is poised to inaugurate the long-awaited Metro BRT transit service as it distributes over 150,000 Transit Cards to Residents In Plateau City. The new Tincity Metro buses were procured by the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Gov. Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, to serve as a mass transit solution for commuters within and outside Plateau City.

According to reports, this historic mass transit initiative aligns with the visionary agenda of H.E. Gov. Barr. Caleb Mutfwang to alleviate the hardship faced by commuters resulting from the recent fuel subsidy removal, as more transit cards will be distributed.

The Initiative introduces revolutionary transportation with state-of-the-art affordability, starting from 200 naira per trip, new smoother routes to connect all corners of the city, and adopts digitization on seamless ticketing through transit cards powered by Nairaxi; a leading tech mobility company in Nigeria.

With digitization, revenue control will be optimized and efforts will also be made to accommodate cash transaction to enable ease in accessibility. Already, activation of transit cards is underway on campuses, in markets, and other locations across Plateau City to ensure convenience and inclusiveness.

The Tincity Metro BRT promises an improved public transportation experience, assures transit safety, accommodates responsible customer service to support modifications and improvements, while ensuring a 50percent subsidized rate on each trip provided by the state government under HE Caleb Mutfwang.

Onboard every BRT Bus is the "Vicki" prompt Presenter. She humorously, but explicitly keeps riders informed by announcing and explaining schedules, routes, fares, and other useful information to keep commuters and drivers informed.

Speaking to residents about their perception of the new Tincity Metro BRT, Mr. Domkat expressed optimism that the future for better public transportation is bright with this new transit initiative. Another described the Metro BRT as a project that will make public transit easier and safer.

Although, the government is working on clearing the bus terminals to allow for smooth traffic flows which is assumed to be the cause of delays in the commencement of operation of the Metro BRTs.

According to top administrative Executives, the roads must be cleared before the 14 new German buses can begin operations in the city. However, the need for urgent sanitization of the city is imperative to allow the full operation of the urban mass transit initiative in Plateau State.

However plateau State residents are encouraged to join the government in ensuring the smooth operation of Tincity Metro BRT which will be operational on eight major routes for connectivity and convenient commuting.

The World Leagues Forum, run Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, recently complained to FIFA about not being consulted over its expanded Club World Cup.

In a forthright letter sent to FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Sunday, the group’s 44 members, which includes the Premier League, accused the governing body of consistently prioritizing its interests.

It was also conveyed that FIFA refuses to consider the interests of the national competitions as it continues to overload the footballing calendar, serious concerns over the impact on player welfare were reiterated.

Masters acts as chair of the Forum, the group’s sentiments echo those of the PFA FIFPro, who criticized FIFA’s announcement this week of a new 32-club tournament in the summer of 2025.

FIFPro has been working closely with the World Leagues Forum on the match-calendar issue, concerns were discussed at the Forum’s AGM earlier this year.

There, the board emphasized that “the constant growth in the volume of international club national team matches is unsustainable for player welfare for the scheduling of domestic football”.

They also pledged to develop a response that is in the best interests of the game’s future. If their concerns continue to go unheard, they are likely to intensify their resistance to FIFA’s plans.

The European Club Association, which represents the interests of a group of elite clubs, including 2025 Club World Cup competitors Manchester City Chelsea, “warmly welcomed” the announcement, stating it was “fantastic news” for club football in general.

City boss Pep Guardiola also confirmed during an interview in March 2024 that “the clubs supported it”, but he also warned the “lack of recovery from year-to-year… is tough for the players” “things should change”.

Manchester City Chelsea will play up to seven extra games within four weeks in the USA, at the height of summer, with the final being staged just three weeks before the start of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

The World Leagues Forum represents the interests of 44 leagues across the entire globe, including LaLiga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, also the professional league in Saudi Arabia, where FIFA this week announced its plans for the tournament’s expansion ahead of this month’s Club World Cup.

Politics / CNG Platform: Shaping The Future Of Transportation Amid Subsidy Removal Debates by nasreports: 11:15am On Aug 30, 2023
CNG Platform: Shaping the Future of Transportation in Nigeria Amidst Petrol Subsidy Debates

Amid ongoing debates surrounding the petrol subsidy in Nigeria, a new player has emerged on the transportation horizon - Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) platform. With its potential to revolutionize the way Nigerians commute, this eco-friendly alternative has gained significant attention as the nation grapples with the complexities of the petrol subsidy issue.

The continuous fluctuations in global oil prices and the financial strain of subsidizing petrol have prompted a critical evaluation of the country's transportation landscape. In this context, the adoption of CNG as an alternative fuel source has gained traction due to its multiple advantages.

CNG, a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative to traditional petrol, is a compressed form of natural gas that can power vehicles efficiently. One of the primary advantages of CNG is its reduced carbon emissions, which aligns with Nigeria's commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.

"The potential of CNG as a game-changer in the transportation sector cannot be overlooked," remarked Nkiru Chime, the Acting MD/CEO of The Infrastructure Bank (TIB) in a previous interview. "Not only does it offer a solution to the environmental challenges posed by petrol combustion, but it also has the potential to alleviate the financial strain caused by subsidizing petrol prices."

In recent months, discussions surrounding the removal of petrol subsidies have sparked nationwide debates and concerns about the impact on citizens' daily lives. The rising costs of maintaining these subsidies have put immense pressure on Nigeria's economy, making the search for sustainable alternatives more urgent.
Drawing from our expertise in managing the Mass Transit Initiative across the transport infrastructure value chain under the Move Nigeria Scheme (MNS), our experience stands as evidence. Despite the complications arising from loan defaulters perceiving the funds as government handouts, the scheme has showcased a commendable average collection rate exceeding 72%. Presently, a cumulative amount of N43.7 billion, surpasses the fund's size by 174%, with over 4,500 vehicles disbursed since 2010. This accomplishment underscores the effectiveness of our comprehensive risk management approaches to the fund and highlights our adeptness in the Mass Transit Business within the bank.

The move towards CNG as a mainstream fuel option not only aligns with global trends but also resonates with the principles of local resource utilization and energy diversification. Apart from its environmental benefits, CNG is significantly cheaper than petrol, offering potential long-term savings for consumers and businesses.
However, challenges remain. The transition to CNG requires substantial investment in infrastructure, including refuelling stations and vehicle conversion facilities. Additionally, there is a need for a comprehensive regulatory framework to govern the integration of CNG into the existing transportation ecosystem.
As Nigeria navigates the intricate pathway of phasing out petrol subsidies, the emergence of the CNG platform presents a ray of hope. With its potential to reshape transportation dynamics, mitigate environmental impact, and provide economic relief, CNG stands as a formidable contender in the quest for a sustainable and prosperous future for Nigeria.

The journey towards embracing CNG as a mainstream transportation solution is underway, with its success hinging on a collaborative effort from government bodies, private sector stakeholders, and the public. As the nation's transportation narrative takes an eco-friendly turn, the CNG platform may well emerge as a symbol of progress, sustainability, and resilience.

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) is in furtherance of President Tinubu’s commitment to easing the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians by reducing energy costs. The initiative aims to introduce more than 11,500 new CNG-enabled vehicles and 55,000 CNG conversion kits for current PMS-dependent vehicles. This initiative also aligns with the presidential directive by strengthening domestic manufacturing, and local assembly, and generating a significant number of jobs.

In line with this effort, TIB is strategically positioned to play an essential role by channelling its expertise and resources towards the expansion of CNG infrastructure. In doing so, TIB actively contributes to advancing the achievements of the PCNGI.

While speaking on the benefits of the Initiatives, NAIRAXI boss explained that it would provide customized electronic transit cards and subsidise mass transportation on behalf of the government to ameliorate the harsh economic conditions experienced by the masses due to the removal of fuel subsidy.

He emphasized on the need that has been found in the market and the removal of subsidy that has created the need to provide palliatives that will cushion the effects established by the private sector which will ensure progress in the country.

According to Nairaxi in a statement signed and made available to newsmen on tuesday morning, it explained that the ongoing hardship could exacerbate if adequate tech related interventions are not in place, owing to the current realities and unanimous decision on fuel subsidy removal by party Candidates if elected.

Already, Nigerians are struggling to withstand challenges created by the sudden return of heavy queues in our petrol stations, high cost of transportation, newly redesigned naira notes and the cashless policy been spearheaded by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

However, intervention like Nairaxi Digital Transit Subsidy Program and the Automated Fare Collection System provided via a cutting edge Mobile application will be efficient in delivering sustainable palliative to average Nigerians in need of affordable transport and logistics services.

In the statement, Nairaxi maintained that there are no post fuel subsidy intervention programs at the moment and called on federal government under the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to initiate a sustainable tech driven intervention program which can be modified and integrated by his successor.

The statement reads, "We must be very proactive as a country as this is the best time to role our programs to ensure that we avoid any ecoconmic disruption as a result of hike in the price of PMS immediately the subsidy regime is over ".

Recall that the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration made efforts towards the removal of subsidy from petrol using programs like Subsidy Reinvestment Programs (Sure-P) , but failed because the interventions where not rooted in technology and was almost fallible on the face of it.

It further reiterated that technology is important to drive and manage the entire transport and logistics infrastructure in the Nigeria as seen in advanced countries like United States of America, South Korea, China and the United Kingdom.

Nairaxi therefore urged HE Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential Candidate of All Progressive Congress, Mr. Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigeria Peoples Party and other presidential candidates to consider the adoption of a sustainable digital mobility as Post fuel subsidy intervention for Nigerians before removing the Subsidy.

While describing the opportunities and benefits of digital transportation, Nairaxi noted that digital intervention will not only create cheaper transport services but will also improve the sector's contribution to the nation's GDP. It added that GDP improvement will be achieved as against the decreasing N191. 448.27billion recorded in 2022 from N335.660.13 billion in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Although, Nairaxi has remained on the forefront of digital inclusion in the Nigeria transportation system. It has continue to champion the campaign for digital mobility through healthy collaborations with stakeholders in the industry, some of which includes National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), the Federal Ministry of Transport, the National Automotive Design And Development Council, amongst others.

Moving forward, Nairaxi is optimistic that its digital transit card and AFCS will be an efficient solution as well as a smart seamless support for implementation of the five thousand naira monthly transport allowance proposed by FG for over 40miilion Nigerians.

We don't know the point the news publication sent is trying to make but we think it time we all youth within Africa Union say enough is enough if South Africa citizens go ahead to kill our citizens again we will have nothing more to say but to reply them within our country of affected.

The Nigeria Youth Corporate Social Responsibility Fund (NYCSRF) in conjunction with the Coalition of Young Candidates in Nigeria have told South Africa through her High Commission the implications of this killings if they don't act as fast as possible we maybe running out of ideas to what to tell our people here in Nigeria who is already feeling too grievance to how our people are being killed likewise other Africa countries that are affected.

The people opinion to this response from the High Commission in line with latest development and killings in South Africa on all news publications is not encouraging because a drastic action by the South Africa Government needs to be taken, Hard words needs to be spoken out to their citizens on the implications of the killings of other Africans brothers and sisters, above all a lasting peace solutions and initiative is expected to be introduced by the South Africa Government to her citizens for them to address the unemployment and underdevelopment affecting South Africa youth and this is why the Nigeria Youth Ambassador of Peace and Change NYAPC is already working on the Africa Union Liberation program of action to present to the South Africa Government through her High Commission in Abuja Nigeria.

It is within the capacity of the South Africa Government and their responsibility to do fast to address it because failure to do so and from next month if this killings repeat itself again there shall be suctions against south africans citizens and their business living within the africa union outside south africa as youth leaders from many effected africa countries within africa union threatened.
