#MyTribeNigeria - A MARCH TO CHANGE NIGERIA'S CORRUPT FOUNDATION (PART 1)

My fellow citizens,at this point in our national crossroad we must take a hard look at everything we have known, everything we have practiced, everything we have been taught, everything we have been led to believe. Our commonwealth is not common for all,our nation is not a “Nation”,our fatherland is a fractious,spite-ridden,corrupt infected land. Our doom stares us in the face. Our’s has become an “aladdin lamp”where all at once there are multiple “genies” of dark forms. You struggle to put one back in the lamp and two others come out to take its place.

We have a choice to make citizens and the coin has just two sides as it is no longer a pandora's box of choices. It is starkly between our “Doom or our Glory”.At the root of our collective malaise is that so few want to own Nigeria,so few want to fight for her,so few want to love her,so few want to perpetuate her; For no really knows her.

Those who should know her and should have spoon fed “commitment to her” to their offspring are our fathers and for some grandfathers who were there during the pains of labour and at her birth. As she took her first walk they were given the opportunity to prosper and have dignity in their own land.Nigeria was given into their hands to nurture,to protect,to grow; But alas even they did not really know her.How could they? They did not conceive her or even named her. They did not betroth her to so divergent a group of peoples. They did not try hard enough to know her and so they “betrayed her promise”.They choose instead to cleave to primordial sections, ethnic colourations, religious affinities; The culmination of their choice-“still ongoing”.

Her prognosis at birth was “Greatness”.She was well endowed. Her offspring were supposed to be well provided for, having all opportunities to thrive. She was to be the envy of all the world, Colossal in Africa and touted as her greatest light.Courted and revered by all others. She would be “Great”.For why not – She was so naturally well endowed it made others seem like beggars. And why not again – In her peoples she had the largest number of human endowment on the continent and a land mass to make conquerors of yore gnash their teeth in envy.

Every nation has its peculiar challenges but surely not a combination of unenviable ones; From - wanton corruption, secessionist agitations,terrorism,militancy,ethno/religious entities propagating parallel states within the “state”,festering kidnappings, endemic cultism, brazen armed robberies and arms proliferation.A close look at these “inexhaustibly outlined” issues will reveal common denominators in their genesis and continuance – the “application of divisive ethos in ethic/religious dogmas”, the”extreme predisposition to sectionalism and primordial sentiments”, the “fanatical and warped interpretation of belief systems”.

Paper over the cracks as much as we want, the Nigerian state is in dire need of a rebirth. When you “chip at a concrete block bit by bit” and continue to do so even as its parts crack away, you know with unerring certainly that no matter how long it takes the inevitability is its collapse-disintegration.As the “minefields” of the 2015 elections where sidestepped, the elite went into an Fun of self-congratulations and backslapping; Heaving sighs of relief at outwitting doomsayers who predicted the demise of our nation in 2015.Meanwhile,the “chipping of the concrete block continues”.

Throughout our history,we have always had ethno/religious movements that have been inclined to pander to what they call their “interests”.Our nation state is riddled with them and has been forever. Some have been quite harmless (remaining true to the idea of a nation in the quest for social justice),but most are extreme and obdurate in their outlook. The nation has suffered and bled and continues to do so on their account. The key fundamental in the propagation of the ethos of “sectional interest ”,whether couched in ethnic,religious,regional/sub regional, political party or any other guise is that you cannot have it all ways with them. It is either feast or famine. They are a corruption of the idea that is Nigeria.

We are all losers if our disunity is allowed to fester.Elite and all.One and all we will all be sad losers. The envisaged destiny of Nigeria at her birth can still come to pass but what is sure as the sun that will rise every other day is that we cannot continue in this way.She is very, very sick but we can start on the way to recovery. The key fundamental on that road is that we must do what every other successful, viable nation in the world has done. Americans,a host of European nations and countries around the world have built the foundation of their society on Nationalism. That is why no matter how bitter the politics or other differences, once it threatens or concerns the "national interest".Americans will be Nationalists first before any other consideration.Take a keen look at any "cohesive" nation you aspire our country to emulate and no matter the different contexts you all come up with, you'll all surely come to realise in the equation that what matters is not the type of system of government or the economic model that is adhered to but the "constant" which is the - "Nationalistic framework and foundation".

We must subjugate all our ethnic, religious, sectional affiliations and affinities to the National one.We must assume and become a nation of “ONE TRIBE”.We must become a commonwealth of “A Nigerian Tribe”.Nationalism is the only vehicle that can drive the quest for “Social Justice” which is the balm that can heal, restore and revive the faith and commitment of the collective in the Nigerian project.

Common sence citizens, think; what has the leanings and pandering to ethno/religious,sectional considerations brought us in all our history but – sorrow, tears and blood. The only people who profit and have ever profited from our divisiveness are those of the elite who propagate and nuture these barriers. We must wake up and see that continuing as we are now is a lose-lose situation.Everyone loses;Government and the Governed. The alternative to continuing on this road to perdition in perpetuity is to begin a “revolution of the hearts and mind”.There is no other alternative. The concept that is inherent in – “MyTribeNigeria” should become a personal actionable slogan for change

Corruption is a plague that must be rooted out and sentiments of ethnicity, religion, party, interests must be demystified and subjugated to the National good.Stereotyping and divisiveness has only begotten 3 children so far - Sorrow,Tears and Blood. When we will resolve to seek a better way?History and the Now has repeatedly shown us that only the Chief instigators and perpetrators of our divisiveness are its ONLY beneficiaries...A collective fight for Social justice is the key.A FIST is stronger that a Finger....NATIONALISTS AWAKE

A Nigerian imortalized the words"My fellow Nigerians",and has since gone on to be part of Nigerian folklore. His choice when saddled with leadership was a choice between being a Nationalist or to pander to artificial divisions.and he choose the former. It saddens me when i see some of the kind of "strong" language we use on ourselves and those who are in positions of authority(although some certainly deserve some stick). Our ways seem so set and our course determined,it is frightening.Well, Fellow Nigerians, our choice is simpler today as the options are so clear...Between our DOOM or Our GLORY.Pandering to ethnic,religious,political(APC/PDP),sectionalist sentiments will guarantee our DOOM for ultimately no house divided on itself can stand. Our only salvation is the revival of Nationalist ethos.Fingers can be pulled apart but a fist is well a FIST.........Corruption is an anathema to the promise and idea that is Nigeria.I say to all those who ate our "collective yams" from whatever party, religion, ethnicity, interest and are called to give account - let the chips fall where they may!

The call by this representative is both extreme and rash and although it may be truly borne out of his frustration at the ranging cancer that is corruption his comments are at the best, unsavory as we have laws and can improve on those laws for punishment through a legal process.A Nigerian imortalized the words"My fellow Nigerians",and has since gone on to be part of Nigerian folklore.
