Hi Brother, is this e-hailing business profitable for Drivers in Ibadan?

This is now the average earnings in Abuja on Sundays.
46600 + 4000(offline) = 50,600
Fuel - 23050
Profit = 27,550

Any further drop in the price/KM, you can't double the fuel.

I was aggressive with that KM , and avoided some crazy long trips with very low fare.
I focused just on trips of 7km-20km max.
Anything above that will mostly give you 250-270/km which will affect the earning.

Just sharing for anyone that finds it useful

All for what? When and how are they gonna make this money back? Cos d moment they start increasing commissions we will all shout. And if they increase the fares back Riders will leave them.

For me more apps coming to compete in this space will only drag d price further down. The current App companies should collaborate or govt should regulate them to standardize the fares.

If I where in govt I would force Indrive and Bolt to have comparable prices with Lagride so as to make them desirable. Right now they hardly get customers cos the difference in price between Lagride and Bolt/Indrive is like night and day.

All over the world, Germany, UK, Spain, China, even Kenya and Tanzania, the govt regulates prices and fixes minimum fares to ensure a decent earning for the Industry players and protest the jobs of regular taxis.

To be honest, how would u feel if u were a yellow taxi operator after Uber and Bolt came into Nigeria? Bolt especially crashed trips of 5k to less than 2k.

Na only God sabi when Naija Government go fit do that kind thing. When there are several major things they are yet to attend to. Hmmmm

There is a union tho in the past they were bought over by d app companies but now there is new resolve to make it work this time.

Drivers are the power house of e hailing and only 50% can enforce desired result from the total shutdown.

I have zero experience in this e-hailing thing, but I feel Drivers have so much power in this e-hailing Ecosystem.

If Drivers decide to boycott a particular company, there is no way such company won't feel the heat.

I know that total boycott is not possible because some Drivers will not cooperate for reasons ranging from short-sightedness to desperation because they rely on driving for their next meal. Nevertheless, even without total boycott, a company would still feel the heat.

In addition, is it not possible to have like a Union that represents the interest of Drivers?

Even Barbers, Hairdressers dey get Union.

I just feel there should be a solution to these complaints that Drivers have.

A Driver that owns a car that's worth 7 miilion naira, and spends 40 hours per week driving , should be able to comfortably boast of at least 700k monthly take home.

@ Shimmaa and Danremmy, I have zero experience when it comes to e-hailing. However I can contribute using general business experience.

I think you misunderstood Eazilyfe. Here is what I think:

1. Danremmy said he has 5 years experience. And that's exactly why he was pissed off. He is too experienced for that kind of offer. He has seen things and he is not desperate. A less experienced and more desperate Driver would take that offer.

2. I totally agree with Shimmaa that the pickup and drop off time will be very challenging. However, a Driver that is not experienced in e-hailing would still likely take that offer (especially a Driver that also doesn't like working at night). Location of the owner and location of the Driver is also important. Nevertheless, the pickup and drop off thing could still be negotiated.

3. Talking about Repairs: They could both agree to set aside 5k daily for Repairs & Maintenance (5000×25 = 125,000 monthly). Any month they spend less, the balance would be split as profit. If they spend more (the owner pays out of pocket and deduct the following month). I feel the former would happen more often than the latter.

4. Sharing Formula: This is left for the Driver to research and arrive at an average expected daily Net earnings (After deducting cost of fuel, commission, 5k for Repairs & maintenance). This will properly guide him on what percentage to negotiate. 60% owner, 40% Driver is just an asking price. The Driver can negotiate what favours him.

At the end of the day, the Owner is coming with the business Capital and the Driver is coming with Time and Expertise. The Owner has an advantage of keeping his Asset (Car) in good shape because the Driver shares part of the liability. He drives more carefully. The owner is only exposed to risk of losing his car to theft, major accident, etc. If he thinks he wants protection, he can decide to go for comprehensive insurance.

Overall: An experienced Driver wouldn't want such deal, but there are several inexperienced Drivers and Drivers in need that'd go for it. Some people are just looking for a hustle that can guarantee them 150k take home monthly. The person might later get the 150k monthly for 6 months and his taste would increase o. He could even see better offers while driving and grab a better offer.

My best advice for you, work only Saturday and Sunday to save you from high maintenance cost.

Just imagine working on a Monday from morning till evening and your profit will just be around 15k average and if one thing spoil in the car, you might spend above that. That can be very frustrating.

I work only those two days and I make an average of 50k profit for the two days, that's 200k a month then budget maintenance 50k

It's better that way and use other days to look for something else to do.

Except when government is ready to fight these apps

Yesterday i did only one trip from mainland to Elevation church that pistis conference. Stayed at their car park for almost 3.30hrs looking for dignifying ride before I blew empty 43km back to my office.

No be say I no fit run am cause like I explained I will profit but becos I have seen different phases of this hustle it will be a crime to plus thank God ultimately I don't need to.

Abuja is not as profitable as Lagos but you can make something tangible and okay if you’re using your own ride. it’s also more easier to navigate here than Lagos. Bro, welcome. If you have been following the thread we have discussed tips and challenges we have faced and some we are still facing(bad fares).

For me the main thing that helped is i started in Lagos which i'm a bit familiar with roads and places, Its an added advantage

Jst sabi use google maps, learn new roads/alternative routes

Dont pick bad price. Be respectful, neat car, minimal conversation except the riders feels comfortable with it or initiated it

Keep checking the thread and ask questions, most of the things said you cant know it until you experience it. Experience will teach you more, tips will help a little

There are some places i have been to and vowed not to accept ride there again

I don't even know what advice to give you now. It's so tough out there. Perhaps you should stick to indrive as it shows distance to destination before accepting a request, you'd decide if the fare is fair.

Never ever and ever go to nyanya/maraba/ado axis. Sometimes that axis can show up as Karu. But there's Karu site just before nyanya bridge, which is still ok and could show up as Karu. Any old Karu should be avoided. To be on the safe side, just avoid the entire area, along with gwagwalada, kuje, buhari, ushafa etc.

3. The vehicle's Odometer is currently at 115k and the vehicle is currently saying "maintenance required". Does this mean I have to take the vehicle for oil change?

4. How many miles should I count for every oil change? 5000 miles?

5. The Vehicle does not currently have any form of security. I am thinking of doing that. What type of security option would you advise please?

I am going through some challenges, so I decided to relocate to Abuja. The main thing I intend to do there will start around June 2027, but I just want to go ahead and familiarise myself with a lot of things there(I have never lived in Abuja).

I cannot just go there and be doing nothing for 9 months. Consequently, I decided to go with a car and start e-hailing. I have read a lot of discouraging things about the current state of this venture. However, I am hoping I could still give it a tey since it is not something I want to do for too long.

The car I intend to use is a Toyota Camry 2010/2011. The car is in good condition.

Please note that I am not an expert expert driver. I have learnt driving since 2010, but I don't drive regularly. However, I have done some interstate travels of 1hour, 2 hours before.

What advice do you have for me please?
