Onitsha has a divers economy from industries to commerce and booming hospitality that comes with malls and 5 star/entertainment center, oil and gas etc. The city has the highest number of banks east of the niger and those and other professionals alike constitute very large corporate society in the city.

I am happy my ideas are found worthy to be brought to His Excellency's notice. That is totally why i waste time looking at Anambra and seeking better ways of doing things based on what i have learnt from other countries. i had previously lamented the lack of email or electronic access to Anambra governors, which i thank God Obiano maintains a facebook page and Twitter account. I am devoted to helping chart a new course for Anambra and Igboland in general. The major difference between Nigeria's stagnated development and other countries such as Brazil,China,Mexico etc is that they have a pure vision of where they want to go and money to support it,while we have lots and lots of money but lack vision in Nigeria.

I am sure you are the person that copied my post. I thank you for bringing it to the governor's attention, but SHAME ON YOU, for not giving credit to the originator of the idea.

I learnt that Ethiopia engaged a Chinese construction firm (China Railway Engineering Corporation) to build a 35 Kilometer long light rail projects for Addis Ababa mega city project for the sum of $475 million dollars about N8 billion naira. This project involves about 20 rail overpasses!

Then i measured the exact straight line distance from Onitsha outskirts to Awka outskirts is exactly 20 kilometers (Yellow line). From Nnewi to where the Onitsha station is located will be 15 kilometers!
With 35 kilometers the same length of the Addis Ababa light rail, we could linkup the 3 biggest cities in Anambra by light railway ! The enormous impact of such a project on the socio-economic status of the state can only be imagine. The best part is that if the Chinese could build it for about N8 billion naira in Ethiopia, they might charge about the same or slightly more to replicate that project here. Even if it cost N10 billion naira, such money spinning project will quickly pay for itself. Not to talk of the fact that due to the highly commercial nature of the 3 cities that it will link together, many banks will be very willing to finance this project.

We may build the project in 2 phases. Phase 1 will build the yellow line (Onitsha to Awka). The Awka-Onitsha line will run in the Median of Onitsha-Awka expressway, which has a huge median as in the pictures below. That way, it won't need many costly bridges to complete and may even cost less than N3- N5 billion naira for the about 20 KM stretch without flyover bridges.
Once the phase 1 line (Onitsha-Awka) is functional and earning money, then Phase 2 line (Blue line) Onitsha to Nnewi will commence. Eventually, the Onitsha station can be extended to Otuocha, The Awka line can be extended to Ekwulobia and the Nnewi end to the line can be extended to Ihiala.

wow! is that Aba? why all this bad mouth about ABA being dirt or slum? i presume they haven't been to Aba. not as bad as they painted it. can't even believe they have that spacious and wide dual carriage like this one..... Onitsha doesn't even have single dual carriage road apart from Fed Govrt high ways Asaba/enugu rd. the inner hoods are worst then what am seeing here.. too narrow like a path way, no pedestrian side walk and always drag road with motorist. Onitsha is little bit better only at upper iweka the rest are in sorry state. even the work I saw was so shabby and rough with no finishing no thanks to IDC.... hope to visit this city soon....

"story for the gods" those scarab never last, is it not this one am seeing here that has gone to rust. I mean they are not bright enough and is as good as not setting them up since we can't see with it. it's meant for beautifying gardens etc and not high ways. go to Enugu there's this kind of impressive atmosphere those bright lights gives.. like the one at upper iweka.

Imo is the State with best streetlighting in Nigeria. Uyo has no streetlights and so is Enugu compared with Imo that most villages have streetlights. The entire Owerri has streetlights. The entire Oguta is same . Even highways are being done with streetlights.!

stop all this blind comparison.... do you think Imo can power half of Enugu street light? not all those poor solar intensity light in IMO that you can't even see yourself...Enugu power all there lights with diesel and u no what it means. I presume the best for Owerri is to go for it..... lit up the city with the brightest light... can't u see yaradua road.

Charlesdonald is not true. those street lights are soo dim that you have to on your headlamp . that's why I hate solar energy light they aren't bright enough. if u can be sincere to yourself just compare the yellow ones which is powered by diesel to Solar. they should overhaul those solar panel and fix normal yellow ones which is obtainable in Enugu and PH city..

I have. D people of one village there(amakor nanka) has to construct a new road bc of what deep gully erosion has don to d only road leading to their village.
So far govt has done absolutely nothing to stop d erosion rampage on that community. They will only come with their camera and press people, promise heaven and earth and it ends there.
Its d igbo spirit that made those people continue to struggle and fight for their lives else,
Least I forget, ekwueme house is close to d erosion sight in oko.

I'm using this platform to appeal to those in charge to do something for these people.
D greatest mistake I made was not snaping pictures though I was afraid, the place makes one feel dizzy and sway.

An Open Letter To Anambrastate Governor Willie Obiano From A Concerned Resident by OkijaAmaka: 1:17pm
With a heavy heart and total disappointment that am writing this painful letter to the Executive Governor of Anambra Chief Willie Obiano they call him ''Akpokudike" too.

First of all i dont need to salute you because am pained and no protocol will be duely observed because you breached all protocols by being a budding failure despite all the trusts and expectations bestowed on you.

HE where and what are your commissioners for Environment and Transport doing and Onitsha and environs are going to the dogs or have gone to the hyenas?

HE lets me start by telling you that your commissioners in those respective offices are the worst public office holders in the history of mankind, Obiano have you took a trip down to Onitsha during the week days nay business period like from 9AM-5PM, i never meant paying visit to Upper Iweka to open your 32 for Xmas trees that add no economic values to the citizenry or alleviate their plights.

Obiano do you know that Iweka Rd, Moore Street, Bida, Okwei, New Mkt, Old Mkt, Sanniez, Venn Road North n South, Niger, Port Harcourt Rd infact all the major roads and streets in Onitsha are no longer passable, from down flyover to Main Mkt that should take less than 3mins is taking more than 3hrs yet you cannot make it to the tailend at Main Mkt.
Seeing touts and street urchins collecting money from people to allocate them some portions of one of our major roads and streets are one of the most disappointing things to see in my beloved state once again, who sent these touts and miscreants, whose pockets are all these monies being channel to, how does these guys account for all the monies they have made and how much reciept is the government issuing at the end of every excercise at the expense of public property and suffering citizens?

Obiano where are you and your clueless, insensitive, tactless, visionless, commissioners of transport n environment when traders have converted all our major roads to parking lots, the useless successive governments we have in Anambra will fold thier arms and watch people build shopping plazas without parking spaces, individuals build residential houses without making provisions for parking spaces only to turn our public roads to parking lots, nobody questioned, nobody dares raise an eyebrow but few officials that busted some guts to do that ended up having their palms greased and the impunity turns an institution.
Obiano and his blindmen in Anambra where art thou and illegal and roadside traders have partitioned all our well tarred roads into 2, one for themselves and one for the public using vehicles both trailers, commercial and private vehicles, keke, okada and predestrians even beggars to use?
Obiano your busy eating freshfish point and kill in Anambra government house with your Umunnas while things go to the dogs.
Obiano governance is not all about globetrotting looking for investors alone, give the local investors a sense of belonging, they need conducive atmosphere for their businesses to thrive.
Your busy moving around and populating the state workforce with armies of SAs, SSAs, PAs all appointed and selected inline with your clannish disposition and tendecies yet none of them have solution to our environmental and transportation challenges.

Obiano and his commisoner for environment what is happening at the waste site at Obosi, its disheartnening to see that the waste evacuating trucks and caterpillars are pushing the waste inside the gully pit but scavangers will go there and bring out the whole waste to the xpress road because they are making money yet nobody is there to challenge them, all the wastes inside are finding there ways outside because of these scavangers and their poor attitudes.
I saw that the waste site is being fenced but why should the scavangers be allowed to close one of the express roads with wastes?

My question for Anambra State government is why should Onitsha such a well planned city and environs be too difficult and hard for you guys to manage?
Traffic hold up is the major reason why Lagos is like nightmare to me but am scared that such is repeating itself here, the xmas season here is in its zenith yet our government only sew beautiful uniforms to youngmen and women to control traffic where there are none but nobody to direct vehicular movement where the traffics are heavy.

Inconclusion, though i know it has never happened before but i must confess that the realities in Anamabra transport and environment sector are devastating, so i suggest Obiano should resign or sack the two docile, clueless, irresponsible, insensitive and visionless officials if his government shouldnt be held responsible if any misfortune befall Ndi Anambra because of their poor perfomances.
H.E. your entire cabinet may not have been failures but these two are and have brought badname to your government, beyond these two bad sector i know how Anambra is faring in other sectors.

like seriously.. to avoid sentiment "Truth and reality is written all over this guy Comment." i thought i was the only one seeing it coming...that upper iweka still needs to be sanitized. too early for drums and praises everywhere... if you look at those street lights, some of them needs painting, re-positioning cos some has bent like mad. people still hawking(chasing buses) on the high way littering dirt everywhere..but they deemed it good showing us only Asaba/Onitsha Federal Govt 4lane whichi is not 1km as Obiano achievement. well i commend him for the road marking stuff and lighting it up. but that's not where anambra started and ends .. is nice but that 4lane is too sandy and dusty.... i mean i dnt just get the kind mentality way we get.
