The Bishop okoye in awgu diocese?
No, it wasnt the awgu bishop, it was the second bishop of enugu diocese, bishop godfrey mary paul okoye, 1970 to 1977, named after the catholic university in enugu. the bishop okoye university.
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by nedu210(m): 11:05am On Feb 07, 2013
It was actually bishop okoye that cursed the land after the land was taken from the church and was sold to pascal jake because he was ready 2 pay higher.

centje: yeah,i recently noticed the place is been cleared. Please, help us with the history of the place, you seem to know much about enugu.
from what i heard, a catholic priest bought that land when that part of enugu was still a forest, gradually development started coming and the church started clearin the site for use, but the former owner of the land forcefully took the land from the church, angered by what the man did, the priest cursed the land. After the land was taken from the church, an estate was built there, but few weeks after it was completed, it was destroyd by fire, after some years or months another one was build and was also destroyd, so after that second incidence, the site and the building was abandoned till date.

The place is called Pascal jake, what i dont knw is if the priest is pascal jake or the owner.

Afam4eva: I think Enugu government should think of developing a new city in the outskirts of Enugu that will house skyscrapers and business districts. That will give Enugu an International feel and put it on a pedestal to compete with other cities in the world.
emene is totally empty, if they can shift development there, it will be great.

henrychubayo: If you guys don't stop this nonsense going on here, i will report you guys. Are you not ashamed of yourselves? This attitude of my state shows that if one from other states sees what is good coming to another state, giving the chance, he will block it. Don't you see why other tribes are better than us. My state, my state, my state. Seriously, if am giving the opportunity, most of you talking here will never be permitted to be ibos. Shameful human beings. Instead of us to promote eastern inter state speed train service that will go across the whole east, you are here debating unnecessary statements. People will see these, and conclude we don't have peace. What we need here is more pictures and less talk. Those who are against the title of this topic should please open a topic like these with the same title but different states and post pictures of the latest project and dividens of current administration. Plz do not talk of governors here, do not talk about states here, do not compare states here, do not criticize anyone here, post pictures of other states projects here if possible. afam4eva: I really don't have a problem with Abagworo, it's some people that are pushing him to say what he's saying. Even though i'm from Enugu, i can tell you that i've had my eyes on Onitsha, Nnewi and Aba for a long time to become the pride of Igboland because these are the cities that can compete worldwide because they have that commercial and industrial feel that Enugu or Owerri doesn't have. It's unfortunate that our Anambra brother will not agree that the way Onitsha is now is not the way it should be. They keep living in denial that Onitsha is now the best thing to happen to the world after Chineke onye nwe anyi. I want to see a clean and modern Aba and Onitsha in my lifetime and we have to keep talking about it and anybody who doesn't like it can jump off the Niger Bridge into river Niger and have his body fed to crocodiles.
likewise me my brother, i dont care about any state that becomes the joy or pride of igbo land, i dont care if aba, asaba, onitsha, or nnewi becomes a world class city. I have naver been been less proud of my igbo people especially the nnewis, all i have ever wanted is a better alaigbo and for now enugu is still better and still the pride of the east.

Onitsha is getting better by the day, it can only get better, foriegn investors are trooping in on daily basis because conducive environment. Stop mentioning Onitsha on the same page with Aba, because Onitsha is light years ahead of Aba in all its ramifications of development.

I could care less if Aba, Owerri, Onitsha or Nnewi is better than Enugu. The first Igbo city to become a megacity will be my number one. CultureRe: Anioma Is An Ethnic Group - Emeka Esogbue by nedu210(m): 1:39pm On Nov 12, 2012
Mr man, Igbo is as old as ndigbo, we may exist independently but the fact still remains that ndigbo know their selves as igbo long befor the white man set foot in their land
agbotaen: 1. many nigerians like to think that their ethnic groups came from heaven or the names were pronounced by god and this is a lie ,
2. 200 years ago ,almost all the major nigerian ethnic groups were not in existence and that include yoruba, ika, igbo, bini, ishan, ijaw and the rest , it was british influence that helped concretise many of these groups, what we had were kingdoms and empires like benin empire which included most southern nigeria ,ika, bini, ishan, uhrobho, isoko, itsekiri, and many anioma and some yoruba areas like ondo, akure, owo and others, and we had kanem bornu empire, sokoto caliphate and others , then later even agbor kingdom included many communities in edo and delta ,and then we had abor kingdom too ,and we also had oyo empire which included many yoruba towns and even dahomey in benin republic , so as at this time where was yoruba? where was igbo ? where was ijaw or others , the answer is they did not exist as an ethnic group like they are today, but these people existed as city states like opobo, okrika, owa kingdom, abavo kingdom, owo kingdom, onitcha kingdom and others .so let all this people take note , it was even the british that started classifying people as igbo and they classified them according to some culture traits, linguistic evidence and some times because of politics, so as time went on they aslo helped to create the standard igbo many speak via christianity and education ,by combinning many dialects together .and this they also did to the isoko by calling them uhrobo and this lasted for a while untill the isoko people asserted their ethnic nationality.
so there is no ethnicity that was brought from heaven it is man made and so a people who think they are distinct can establish their own ethnic identity.just like ishan and bini speak similar languages but they are different ethnic group.
The white man may give other ethnic group identity but that is not the case for ndigbo. British classifyin people as igbo and creatin a standard igbo is laughable. How did they come about that?..

One_Naira: Afam4eva you guys do not realize how much impact that word has. Many of the deniers go along the route of "I'm not Igbo" because of that two words. Remember that one statement from obi of owa, he said something like we are stretching our hands to reconnect, it is SE Igbo that are holding back and. refusing to reconnect. I can't remember he's exact words but it is something similar to that. The term "fake igbo" kinda gives the impression that una do not see us as one of you but rather a set of ppl that have no identity and trying to force ourselves onto una. Which sadly, I've witness many SE igbo even the usa born say. Few months ago, i went to a Nigerian gathering. It was mostly delta ppl, one yoruba, the girl from imo state, an onitsha chick and my sister and I. The conservation got into about delta igbo. Exactly the same thing you started a topic on, why are delta igbo not just called igbo. I don't remember what motivated her to say this but all i remember is the edo chick said something and the imo state girl said "well they are not igbo. They call themselves igbo" addressing that word to delta igbo. Sad thing is this girl was born and raised in usa so her mindset shouldn't be like that. Luckily, the onitsha jumped in and corrected her before we did. Yes that word, those two words have a lot of impact. It is idiotic to think like that but what do you except a person to think when you are constantly called fake, wannabe, etc.
though afam has addressed this issue, i just want to tell u that any body that call u fake, also call the person fake. My dialect has also been tagged fake by a deltan. Akazue will speak his dialect but when u speak urs he will be the first to condemn it and tell u, "nwoke igbo gi a kulu olu" even when i use to think the guy was from anambra i never felt bad.

How would you like a thread with a title that reads " ANAMBRA THE SUPERIOR IGBO" huh
Nwa nnaa, i dont think your anger towards this thread title is necessary, and enugu being called pride of the east, i dont think its unconnected with what you even wrote here as it being the former capital of east, east central and old anambra so the title shouldnt be a bone of contention. spyder880: I went and saw the progress of work at the new secretariat complex in Enugu. Work has started in full for the building of the complex, Arab Contractors are the builders on site, so much activity in those areas. I took some shots and will post when I get more chance.

They prevented me from taking photograghs from the bridge building site at Ziks avenue Enugu. An overzealous security man told me they have orders to stop anybody from taking photos, still Arab Contractors site, solid looking constructions.

I also saw a new road being built around new haven extension, coming from the airport, its on the right hand side from new haven junction, opposite Dannic hotels and across the rail line. So many projects going on at the same time in Enugu and the governor has not granted a press conference in 3 years grin we have even forgotten how his voice sounds. He will not launch any of the completed projects and he will jump into another one.

THANK YOU SULLIVAN.
I passed through enugu onitsh road just close to radio nigeria, and saw where construction is goin on and i was wondering if that is where they sited the secretariat...
