Hello everyone,

I wanted to start this for women who are still waiting for a child, who have tried for a long time, have suffered miscarriages, still births  and  are trying to find alternative ways of having a child.

In our culture it is really difficult to talk about this as people are ashamed or don't know who to trust  and are just generally confused. I have suffered 2 miscarriages and i am still on this journey i believe that i will  smileybe a mother some day.

We believe in Nigeria after 2 years  and no child you have major issues especially from your village but i know that is not always true.

So please come in let us support one another we can pray together, share ideas  seek advice and get advice  and travel this road together dont suffer in silence don't cry alone anymore let us help each other, until the day we carry our bundle of joy.

myselftrend:
Here are beautiful tips to help you stay away from Diabetes.

1. Cut Sugar and Refined Carbs From Your Diet

Eating sugary foods and refined carbs can put at-risk individuals on the fast track to developing diabetes.

Your body rapidly breaks these foods down into small sugar molecules, which are absorbed into your bloodstream.

The resulting rise in blood sugar stimulates your pancreas to produce insulin, a hormone that helps sugar get out of the bloodstream and into your body's cells.

In people with prediabetes, the body's cells are resistant to insulin's action, so sugar remains high in the blood. To compensate, the pancreas produces more insulin, attempting to bring blood sugar down to a healthy level.

Over time, this can lead to progressively higher blood sugar and insulin levels, until the condition eventually turns into type 2 diabetes.

Many studies have shown a link between the frequent consumption of sugar or refined carbs and the risk of diabetes. What's more, replacing them with foods that have less of an effect on blood sugar may help reduce your risk (, , , , ).

A detailed analysis of 37 studies found that people with the highest intakes of fast-digesting carbs were 40% more likely to develop diabetes than those with the lowest intakes ().

Summary: Eating foods high in refined carbs and sugar increases blood sugar and insulin levels, which may lead to diabetes over time. Avoiding these foods may help reduce your risk.

2. Work Out Regularly

Performing physical activity on a regular basis may help prevent diabetes.

Exercise increases the insulin sensitivity of your cells. So when you exercise, less insulin is required to keep your blood sugar levels under control.

One study in people with prediabetes found that moderate-intensity exercise increased insulin sensitivity by 51% and high-intensity exercise increased it by 85%. However, this effect only occurred on workout days ().

Many types of physical activity have been shown to reduce insulin resistance and blood sugar in overweight, obese and prediabetic adults. These include aerobic exercise, high-intensity interval training and strength training (, , , , , ).

Working out more frequently seems to lead to improvements in insulin response and function. One study in people at risk of diabetes found that burning more than 2,000 calories weekly via exercise was required to achieve these benefits ().

Therefore, it's best to choose physical activity that you enjoy, can engage in regularly and feel you can stick with long-term.

Summary: Performing physical activity on a regular basis can increase insulin secretion and sensitivity, which may help prevent the progression from prediabetes to diabetes.

3. Drink Water as Your Primary Beverage

Water is by far the most natural beverage you can drink.

What's more, sticking with water most of the time helps you avoid beverages that are high in sugar, preservatives and other questionable ingredients.

Sugary beverages like soda and punch have been linked to an increased risk of both type 2 diabetes and latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA).

LADA is a form of type 1 diabetes that occurs in people over 18 years of age. Unlike the acute symptoms seen with type 1 diabetes in childhood, LADA develops slowly, requiring more treatment as the disease progresses ().

One large observational study looked at the diabetes risk of 2,800 people.

Those who consumed more than two servings of sugar-sweetened beverages per day had a 99% increased risk of developing LADA and a 20% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes ().

Researchers of one study on the effects of sweet drinks on diabetes stated that neither artificially sweetened beverages nor fruit juice were good beverages for diabetes prevention ().

By contrast, consuming water may provide benefits. Some studies have found that increased water consumption may lead to better blood sugar control and insulin response (, ).

One 24-week study showed that overweight adults who replaced diet sodas with water while following a weight loss program experienced a decrease in insulin resistance and lower fasting blood sugar and insulin levels ().

Summary: Drinking water instead of other beverages may help control blood sugar and insulin levels, thereby reducing the risk of diabetes.

4. Lose Weight If You're Overweight or Obese

Although not everyone who develops type 2 diabetes is overweight or obese, the majority are.

What's more, those with prediabetes tend to carry excess weight in their midsection and around abdominal organs like the liver. This is known as visceral fat.

Excess visceral fat promotes inflammation and insulin resistance, which significantly increase the risk of diabetes (, , , ).

Although losing even a small amount of weight can help reduce this risk, studies show that the more you lose, the more benefits you'll experience (, ).

One study of more than 1,000 people with prediabetes found that for every kilogram (2.2 lbs) of weight participants lost, their risk of diabetes reduced by 16%, up to a maximum reduction of 96% ().

There are many healthy options for losing weight, including low-carb, Mediterranean, paleo and vegetarian diets. However, choosing a way of eating you can stick with long-term is key to helping you maintain the weight loss.

One study found that obese people whose blood sugar and insulin levels decreased after losing weight experienced elevations in these values after gaining back all or a portion of the weight they lost ().

Summary: Carrying excess weight, particularly in the abdominal area, increases the likelihood of developing diabetes. Losing weight may significantly reduce the risk of diabetes.

5. Quit Smoking

Smoking has been shown to cause or contribute to many serious health conditions, including heart disease, emphysema and cancers of the lung, breast, prostate and digestive tract ().

There's also research linking smoking and second-hand smoke exposure to type 2 diabetes (, , , ).

In an analysis of several studies totaling over one million people, smoking was found to increase the risk of diabetes by 44% in average smokers and 61% in people who smoked more than 20 cigarettes daily ().

One study followed the risk of diabetes in middle-aged male smokers after they quit. After five years their risk had reduced by 13%, and after 20 years they had the same risk as people who had never smoked ().

Researchers stated that even though many of the men gained weight after quitting, after several smoke-free years, their risk of diabetes was lower than if they'd continued smoking.

Summary: Smoking is strongly linked to the risk of diabetes, especially in heavy smokers. Quitting has been shown to reduce this risk over time.

6. Follow a Very-Low-Carb Diet

Following a ketogenic or very-low-carb diet can help you avoid diabetes.

Although there are a number of ways of eating that promote weight loss, very-low-carb diets have strong evidence behind them.

They have consistently been shown to lower blood sugar and insulin levels, increase insulin sensitivity and reduce other diabetes risk factors (, , , , ).

In a 12-week study, prediabetic individuals consumed either a low-fat or low-carb diet. Blood sugar dropped by 12% and insulin dropped by 50% in the low-carb group.

In the low-fat group, meanwhile, blood sugar dropped by only 1% and insulin dropped by 19%. Thus, the low-carb diet had better results on both counts ().

If you minimize your carb intake, your blood sugar levels won't rise very much after you eat. Therefore, your body needs less insulin to maintain your blood sugar within healthy levels.

What's more, very-low-carb or ketogenic diets may also reduce fasting blood sugar.

In a study of obese men with prediabetes who followed a ketogenic diet, average fasting blood sugar decreased from 118 to 92 mg/dl, which is within the normal range. Participants also lost weight and improved several other health markers ().

Summary: Following a ketogenic or very-low-carb diet can help keep blood sugar and insulin levels under control, which may protect against diabetes.

7. Watch Portion Sizes

Whether or not you decide to follow a low-carb diet, it's important to avoid large portions of food to reduce the risk of diabetes, especially if you are overweight.

Eating too much food at one time has been shown to cause higher blood sugar and insulin levels in people at risk of diabetes ().

On the other hand, decreasing portion sizes may help prevent this type of response.

A two-year study in prediabetic men found that those who reduced food portion sizes and practiced other healthful nutrition behaviors had a 46% lower risk of developing diabetes than the men who made no lifestyle changes ().

Another study looking at weight loss methods in people with prediabetes reported that the group practicing portion control lowered their blood sugar and insulin levels significantly after 12 weeks ().

Summary: Avoiding large portion sizes can help reduce insulin and blood sugar levels and decrease the risk of diabetes.

8. Optimize Vitamin D Levels

Vitamin D is important for blood sugar control.

Indeed, studies have found that people who don't get enough vitamin D, or whose blood levels are too low, have a greater risk of all types of diabetes (, , , ).

Most health organizations recommend maintaining a vitamin D blood level of at least 30 ng/ml (75 nmol/l).

One study found that people with the highest blood levels of vitamin D were 43% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those with the lowest blood levels ().

Another observational study looked at Finnish children who received supplements containing adequate levels of vitamin D.

Children who took the vitamin D supplements had a 78% lower risk of developing type 1 diabetes than children who received less than the recommended amount of vitamin D ().

Controlled studies have shown that when people who are deficient take vitamin D supplements, the function of their insulin-producing cells improves, their blood sugar levels normalize and their risk of diabetes reduces significantly (, ).

Good food sources of vitamin D include fatty fish and cod liver oil. In addition, sun exposure can increase vitamin D levels in the blood.

However, for many people, supplementing with 2,000–4,000 IU of vitamin D daily may be necessary to achieve and maintain optimal levels.

Summary: Consuming foods high in vitamin D or taking supplements can help optimize vitamin D blood levels, which can reduce your risk of diabetes.

9. Minimize Your Intake of Processed Foods

One clear step you can take to improve your health is to minimize your consumption of processed foods.

They're linked to all sorts of health problems, including heart disease, obesity and diabetes.

Studies suggest that cutting back on packaged foods that are high in vegetable oils, refined grains and additives may help reduce the risk of diabetes (, , ).

This may be partly due to the protective effects of whole foods like nuts, vegetables, fruits and other plant foods.

One study found that poor-quality diets that were high in processed foods increased the risk of diabetes by 30%. However, including nutritious whole foods helped reduce this risk ().

Summary: Minimizing processed foods and focusing on whole foods with protective effects on health may help decrease the risk of diabetes.

10. Drink Coffee or Tea

Although water should be your primary beverage, research suggests that including coffee or tea in your diet may help you avoid diabetes.

Studies have reported that drinking coffee on a daily basis reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes by 8–54%, with the greatest effect generally seen in people with the highest consumption (, , , , , 61).

Another review of several studies that included caffeinated tea and coffee found similar results, with the largest risk reduction in women and overweight men ().

Coffee and tea have antioxidants known as polyphenols that may help protect against diabetes ().

In addition, green tea contains a unique antioxidant compound called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) that has been shown to reduce blood sugar release from the liver and increase insulin sensitivity (, ).

Health / Re: 10 Natural Treatments For Depression by nenyec2: 2:15pm On Mar 28, 2019

geniewilliams:

Depression is a mental health disorder resulting from chemical imbalances of the brain. It is not a personal defect, failure, or weakness. Rather, it is a medical issue, plain and simple. And, as with any other medical condition, depression requires diagnosis and treatment.

In this article, we’ll discuss a number of things about depression, including symptoms and types, risk factors, and treatment (modern and complementary), and how to get help if needed. Our primary focus will be on the treatment of symptoms and underlying causes.

THE PREVALENCE OF DEPRESSION
Anxiety and depression disorders are the most common medical conditions in the United States and possibly the world. Here are the latest depression numbers per the World Health Organization:
300 million people globally have depression.
Over 16 million U.S. adults experience a major depressive episode each year.
Half of the individuals with clinical depression are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
Around 20 percent of adults will experience some depressive condition at some point in their lifetime.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
The degree to which one experiences depressive symptoms varies by person. That said, nearly every person diagnosed with depression contends with at least a few symptoms. A condition called subsyndromal symptomatic depression also exists, whereby the person’s symptoms don’t meet the defined criteria for a major depressive episode – a requirement for diagnosis.

While the signs and symptoms of depression vary by type (see below), most cases include one or more of the following symptoms:

Feelings of anxiety, emptiness, hopelessness, pessimism, or sadness
Low energy or fatigue
Loss of interest in activities that were once pleasurable
Inhibited movement and flexibility
Problems thinking; including with concentration, decision-making, and remembering
Changes to appetite
Difficulties falling and staying asleep (insomnia)
Manifestation of body aches and pains (psychosomatic symptoms)
Thoughts of harming or killing oneself (1)
RISK FACTORS FOR DEPRESSION
The risk factors are numerous and varied:

Abuse: Previous or current emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse.

Grief: In particular, grieving over the death of a loved one.

Family history: Genetics is partially responsible for the onset of depressive symptoms in some cases.

Illness: A secondary medical condition may increase risk. Known conditions include:

Anxiety
ADHD
Chronic pain
Insomnia
Life changes: Events that significantly alter your day-to-day living – even “good” events – may increase risk, including:

A new job
Childbirth (see ‘Post-partum depression’ below)
Divorce
Loss of a job
Marriage
Relationship difficulties (including those involving your immediate family)
Medications: One-third of Americans are taking a prescription drug that lists depression as a potential side effect. It’s estimated that over 200 medicines can cause these side effects, including:

Acid reflux treatments
Anti-seizure medications
Beta-blockers (for high blood pressure)
Birth control
Corticosteroids
Emergency contraceptives
Proton pump inhibitors
Substance abuse: 3 out of every 10 people with a substance abuse disorder have depression. Substances like alcohol and opioids are often used as a coping mechanism; a means of numbing depressive symptoms – behavior that can lead to substance abuse or addiction. (2)

NATURAL TREATMENTS
Fortunately, there are many effective treatments available for depression. Unfortunately, many conventional treatments are both expensive and cause an array of side effects. Generally, depression treatment involves the use of prescription medication.

HERE ARE 10 NATURAL DEPRESSION TREATMENTS ACCORDING TO DOCTORS:
1. HAVE A SIMPLE ROUTINE:
Depression can make someone feel as if they’re better off lying in bed all day. Eventually, the depressed person may just renounce all structure altogether – which doesn’t help. Having a flexible schedule can help keep one’s life on track.

2. SET SMALL GOALS:
We’re not the biggest advocates of setting far-reaching goals – but having a small goal here and there can help with motivation. With depression, it’s often productive to have small daily tasks to achieve.

3. EXERCISE:
Working out is an awesome antidote to depression. Exercise releases “feel-good” hormones called endorphins. Further, neuroplasticity research finds that regular exercise may help adjust some of the chemical imbalances surrounding these conditions. Moderate workouts five times a week should do the trick.

4. EAT RIGHT:
The food you eat affects everything in your body. “Garbage in, garbage out” fittingly applies to junk food, fast food, and pretty much anything that is processed (read: bagged or boxed). On that note, make sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables; drink plenty of water. Additionally, cut back on processed foods and refined sugars as much as possible.

5. GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP:
Depression can make getting quality shuteye very difficult. While you’ll probably have the occasional night of elusive sleep, doing the small things – going to sleep at the same time, limiting naps, etc. – can go a long way to improving the quality of sleep long-term.

6. DON’T AVOID RESPONSIBILITIES:
While it’s tempting to ignore that bill or take a sick day, avoiding responsibilities will probably make you feel worse. Instead, pace yourself and focus on accomplishing one thing at a time.

7. PRACTICE MINDFULNESS:
In a depressed state, the brain perpetually worries about the past and future. To practice mindfulness simply means to give your full attention to the present moment – to the here and now. As one becomes familiar with mindful living, the negative symptoms will become less frequent.

8. CONSIDER SUPPLEMENTS:
There are a few supplements that may help reduce depressive symptoms, including fish oil, folic acid, and SAMe. While the research on these supplements is promising, be sure to check if they interfere with any current medications. The same goes when considering any supplement.

9. TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT:
As made clear, depression can make someone want to stay inside in bed all day. Of course, doing so accomplishes nothing – and may even make a person feel worse. Break the monotony and try something different. Go to a park or museum. Read a book or take an online class. The key here is to engage your mind.

10. PRACTICE GRATITUDE:
We all know that depression makes it hard to be grateful for anything. It can test your will and distort your thoughts (both good reasons to reasons to redirect your thoughts elsewhere.) While things may seem bleak, there are many things for which to be thankful. Take five to ten minutes out of each day and write down two or three things for which you are thankful. Contemplate these things and try to remember them as you go throughout your day. (3)

depression

DEPRESSION TYPES
Depression is categorized according to the cause, of which some are caused by environmental factors while others are caused by a chemical imbalance. Here are the most common types:

MAJOR DEPRESSION:
Major depression is the most common type, and is characterized by feelings of despair, hopelessness, loss of energy and sudden changes to appetite or weight.

PERSISTENT DEPRESSIVE DISORDER (PDD; FORMERLY “DYSTHYMIA”):
PDD, while similar to major depression, does not reach that level of intensity. PDD is characterized by feelings of low energy, joylessness, and sleep disturbances.

BIPOLAR DISORDER:
Once called “Mania” or “Manic Depression,” bipolar disorder is unlike most depression types in that the person experiences episodes of mania. Manic symptoms are the opposite of depressive ones: high self-esteem, high energy, grandiose thoughts, etc. Mania is almost always immediately followed by typical depression symptoms.

SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (SAD):
As its name implies, SAD occurs seasonally, typically in the fall or winter as days become shorter. Reduced sunlight affects the brain’s levels of serotonin, the neurochemical that plays a role in mood, and melatonin, which regulates both mood and sleep patterns.

POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION:
This often occurs following the birth of a child (though depressive emotions can set in during pregnancy.) This condition can actually affect both men and women, and includes severe symptoms of sadness and lethargy. (5, 6)

FINAL THOUGHTS ON NATURAL TREATMENTS FOR DEPRESSION
The ignorance and stigma surrounding depression kills people. You heard that right – it kills people. Many people who are desperate for help avoid getting it due to fear or shame. Tragically, suicide claims the lives of nearly 45,000 people every year. It is the second-leading cause of death for people between the ages of 10 and 34, and the fourth-leading cause of death for those between 35 and 54.(7)

Saoyewole7890:
Statistics on stroke
Causes of stroke
Risk factors of stroke
Medical professionals treating stroke
Where to get help
Things to remember
A stroke interrupts blood flow to an area of the brain. Strokes can be fatal, but the risk can be reduced. Many stroke risk factors are lifestyle related, so everyone has the power to reduce their risk of having a stroke.

Statistics on stroke

Australians will suffer more than half a million strokes in the next ten years, also:

One in three people die within a year of having a stroke.
Stroke kills more women than breast cancer.
Almost one in five people who experience a stroke are under the age of 55.
Men are more likely to suffer a stroke and at a younger age.
In 2013, Australians suffered around 50,000 new and recurrent strokes – that’s one stroke every 10 minutes.
Stroke is Australia’s second biggest killer after heart disease.

Causes of stroke

A stroke can occur as:

a haemorrhagic stroke – an artery may rupture and cause bleeding into the brain tissue. Also called a cerebral haemorrhage
an ischaemic stroke caused by atherosclerosis – an artery may become blocked by progressive thickening of its walls
an ischaemic stroke caused by embolism – a clot blocks an artery and prevents blood getting to part of the brain.
The brain cells in the immediate area are killed because they are deprived of oxygen. The dead area that results from stroke is known as an infarct. Without prompt medical treatment, the area of brain cells surrounding the infarct will also die.

Risk factors of stroke

Some stroke risk factors can’t be controlled. These include gender, age and family history. However, many stroke risk factors are lifestyle related. Everyone can reduce their risk of having a stroke by making a few simple lifestyle changes.

Lifestyle-related factors that increase your risk of stroke include:

high blood pressure
cigarette smoking
diabetes
high blood cholesterol levels
heavy drinking
a diet high in fat (particularly saturated) and salt, but low in fibre, fruit and vegetables
lack of regular exercise
obesity.
Another important risk factor, particularly as you get older, includes atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat).

Overall risk increases when multiple risk factors are present. Your doctor should assess this overall risk (called ‘absolute risk’) using a tool that calculates your risk of stroke and heart disease based on your age, sex, blood pressure, smoking history, cholesterol levels, and whether you have diabetes. Your doctor will also consider other factors such as if you have atrial fibrillation or kidney disease.

High blood pressure and stroke

High blood pressure (hypertension) is the most significant risk factor for stroke. Blood pressure refers to the pressure inside the arteries. Normal blood pressure is around 120/80, while high-normal blood pressure is 120/80 to 140/90. High blood pressure is when your blood pressure is consistently over 140/90. This is called ‘hypertension’.

Hypertension means that the blood is exerting more pressure than is normal or healthy. Over time, this weakens and damages blood vessel walls, which can lead to stroke, particularly cerebral haemorrhage.

Hypertension may also cause thickening of the artery walls, resulting in narrowing and eventual blockage of the vessel (ischaemic stroke). In atherosclerosis, the pressure of your pumping blood could ‘hose off’ debris from damaged artery walls. The circulating debris (called emboli) can cause a stroke by lodging in and blocking a blood vessel in the brain.

Strategies to reduce high blood pressure include:

Check your blood pressure regularly and know your numbers.
Maintain a healthy weight for your height.
Exercise regularly.
Choose a low-fat, high-fibre diet.
Reduce or eliminate salt from your diet.
Limit your alcohol intake to two or fewer standard drinks per day.
Stop smoking.
Take antihypertensive medications to help control high blood pressure.
Atherosclerosis and stroke

Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease of the walls of the arteries and is a major cause of stroke. The term ‘atherosclerosis’ literally translates as hardening of the arteries. Healthy arteries are flexible and smooth-walled, allowing unimpeded blood flow. Arteries affected by atherosclerosis become stiff, inflexible and narrowed by deposits of cholesterol-laden ‘plaque’.

This plaque destabilises the lining of the artery and can lead to the formation of blood clots within the vessel (atherothrombosis). These clots can then either block the artery or break off and flow downstream in the blood, lodging in a smaller vessel (embolism).

Either of these events (atherothrombosis or embolism) can cause an ischaemic stroke. Atherosclerosis can also weaken the walls of smaller arteries and result in haemorrhagic strokes.

Treatment for atherosclerosis includes:

appropriate lifestyle changes
medications that reduce the amount of fats circulating in the blood
antiplatelet medications (such as aspirin) or anticoagulant drugs (such as warfarin) to prevent blood clots forming
antihypertensive medications to reduce high blood pressure.
Carotid artery stenosis

Hardening of the arteries in the neck (carotid arteries) can be a high risk for stroke, because these arteries are responsible for delivering blood to the brain. Atherosclerosis of the carotid arteries causes narrowing. This is called carotid artery stenosis or carotid stenosis.

Most people with carotid stenosis are not aware of the condition until they have a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or stroke. A TIA is a powerful warning that a full stroke is pending, possibly within hours, days, weeks or months. Apart from medications to control atherosclerosis, treatment may include surgery to unblock the carotid arteries.

Smoking and stroke

Smoking can double or even quadruple your risk of stroke. Some of the chemicals in cigarette smoke (such as nicotine and carbon monoxide) accelerate the process of atherosclerosis (narrowing of arteries). Clots are more likely to form because smoking thickens the blood and makes clotting factors, such as platelets, much more ‘sticky’. Cigarette smoke forces arteries to constrict (get narrower), which makes it harder for the thickened blood to move through the vessels.

Strategies to quit smoking include:

Call the Quitline for further advice and support.
See your doctor for information and advice.
Decide on a strategy, such as ‘cold turkey’ or using nicotine replacement therapy.
Keep a smoking diary so that you are aware of your smoking triggers (such as stress or boredom).
Ask your family and friends for support.
Don’t be discouraged by a slip-up. If you smoke a cigarette, put it behind you and keep going

Health / Re: How To Survive The Current Heat Wave In Nigeria. by nenyec2: 11:11am On Mar 22, 2019

frankomale1:
A heat wave is a period of excessively hot weather, which may be accompanied by high humidity, especially in oceanic climate countries. While definitions vary, a heat wave is usually measured relative to the usual weather in the area and relative to normal temperatures for the season.

A heat wave occurs when a system of high atmospheric pressure moves into an area. In such a high-pressure system, air from upper levels of our atmosphere is pulled toward the ground, where it becomes compressed and increases in temperature. ... The high-pressure inhibits winds, making them faint-to-nonexistent.

Recently in many parts of Nigeria, we have seen abnormal hot conditions, places like Abuja, Kwara, Benue and most of the North East states.

How to survive the Heat wave in Nigeria

1) Drink more water to keep hydrated

2) Avoid alcoholic drinks

3) Eat lots of fresh fruits

4) Try stay indoors between 12noon-4pm

5) Take cold baths in the afternoon &/or before going to bed
