United States Congressman Riley M. Moore has rejected claims that the United States supports any move to break up Nigeria, warning that pushing separatist agendas would worsen insecurity and place Christian communities at greater risk. Moore made the remarks in a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account after visiting Nigeria, where he held meetings with government officials, church leaders, aid organisations, and internally displaced persons. “I have travelled to Nigeria and engaged in multiple high-level meetings with Nigerian officials, the Church, aid groups across the country, and IDPs, to get a better understanding of the rampant persecution of Christians in Nigeria,” Moore wrote. The lawmaker stressed that the issue of dividing Nigeria did not arise during his engagements. “In my discussions, the idea of dividing the country has not come up in any serious way,” he said, warning that “efforts to embolden separatists hurt Christians in Nigeria, especially in the North and Middle Belt.” Moore further warned that weakening Nigeria’s unity would have wider security consequences beyond the country.“A destabilised Nigeria would embolden terrorists and make Christians less safe in Nigeria and across the continent,” he stated. He also pledged continued advocacy for victims of terrorism and insecurity across Nigeria. “I remain committed to working to save the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ and, for that matter, all Nigerians suffering from the instability wrought by terrorists throughout Nigeria,” he said. Moore linked his position to ongoing security cooperation between Washington and Abuja, describing the newly signed agreement between both countries as a major step toward addressing violence and strengthening bilateral ties. “The US and Nigeria have just entered into a security cooperation agreement, and that is an important step in tackling the violence in Nigeria and deepening and strengthening the bilateral relationship between our great nations,” he added https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/02/us-lawmaker-moore-warns-against-nigerias-break-up/

Fighting these insurgency in Nigeria with guns won't work, it won't end insecurity in our land, I ask Tinubu and his fellows who are still alive to go back to that very table they agreed and brought in these killer machines into our country ahead of 2015 election, and do whatever possible to cancel that agreement and pay them off in anyway possible, now that the chief architect BUHARI is dead, let Tinubu who is of cuz no2 in the then APC gandups call others (Amaechi, Elrufai, Oshiomole, Oyegun, Ribadu and co), they should go back and settle those killer machines and let them quietly leave our land, if this is not done and these remaining men die finish, we may be forced to live with insecurity forever in this country...#myopinion |
An association of Igbo clergymen, Concerned Igbo Ministers’ Commission, has reacted to the recent killings in Kwara State, saying leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, was jailed for warning against ‘Jihadist incursion’ into Nigeria’s southern territories. Over a hundred deaths have been recorded in the attacks on communities in Kwara, believed to have been carried out by Islamist extremists. In a statement on Friday, President of the Concerned Igbo Ministers’ Commission, Rev. Tony Uzor, expressed regrets that Kanu’s warning about the spread of extremism in the country, particularly into the South, was ignored. Uzor expressed disappointment that rather than act on Kanu’s warning, Nigerian authorities threw him into jail. The clergyman faulted the government for going after Kanu, who he said was only armed with microphone, while pampering insurgents and bandits responsible for killing thousands of Nigerians. According to Uzor, for the Nigerian government, “words are treated as deadlier than weapons, and warnings are punished more harshly than mass murder”. The Concerned Igbo Ministers’ Commission added that Kanu was arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned because his broadcasts unsettled the status quo that favours the caliphate. Faulting Kanu’s conviction, the cleric added, “A man who spoke — who warned, provoked, irritated, unsettled — was caged as though he had spilled blood. Meanwhile, blood was actually spilled elsewhere, in industrial quantities, and the nation barely blinked. “Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the Federal High Court in Abuja, sentenced Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment in November 2025 for terrorism charges — inciting violence through his broadcasts and calls for Biafran independence. Kanu, the very man who had long warned of this exact impending doom in Yorubaland: the spread of religious extremism, the unchecked jihadist incursions into Southern territories, the failure to protect communities from the reach of these terrorists. He was convicted not for wielding weapons, but for wielding words that unsettled the status quo. “Justice Omotosho handed down concurrent life terms, ensuring Kanu rots in isolation at Sokoto Correctional Centre of all places, the seat of the caliphate itself. All while the real killers in Kwara — and countless other places — evade the same zealous pursuit. “It is apparently safer to wield an AK-47 assault rifle than a microphone — provided the AK-47 aligns with the unspoken hierarchies of power.” The Igbo clergymen further expressed concern that hundreds can be killed in rural Nigeria by armed groups whose methods and ideology are well known, without any serious response from the government. The clerics said the Nigerian government has not displayed the same zeal it deployed in going after Kanu and IPOB in efforts to stop killings by Jihadists and Islamic extremists. The statement added, “The dead are absorbed into statistics and forgotten. Take Kwara State, where just this week, Islamic terrorists slaughtered at least 170 people in the villages of Woro and Nuku just as Nnamdi Kanu predicted many years back. Gunmen stormed in, executing residents at close range — many bound and shot, others burned alive — for refusing to submit to extremist Sharia rule. Homes razed, shops looted, families shattered. The attackers, linked to genuine terrorist groups from Northern Nigeria and not proscribed, left a trail of mass graves and missing loved ones. “President Tinubu deployed troops after the fact, blaming jihadists, but where was the same preemptive fury that accompanied Monday sit-at-home civil disobedience? “But let one man (Nnamdi Kanu) speak inconvenient truths, invoke history, or challenge the emotional comfort of the state, and the system awakens with ferocity tagging him terrorist when he has not killed anyone. Those who kill are managed. Those who speak are crushed.” The Concerned Igbo Ministers’ Commission accused the Nigerian government of jailing the country’s “prophets” while protecting killers. According to the group, the government has shown that it is determined to ensure that Nigeria remains one at all cost. “The stability of the murderous state matters more than the sanctity of life. Preventing uncomfortable ideas is more urgent than preventing funerals. Silence in the face of killings is preferable to noise in the face of injustice. “Because a society confident in its moral foundations does not jail prophets and tolerate killers. It does not obsess over speech while normalising graves,” the statement added. https://dailypost.ng/2026/02/06/kwara-killings-nnamdi-kanu-jailed-for-warning-against-jihadist-incursion-into-southern-nigeria-igbo-clerics/

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that an abduction incident occurred at Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following initial uncertainty surrounding reports of the incident. In a statement on X on Tuesday night, the Force said it received reports of the abduction, which generated widespread concern among residents and the general public. The statement by the Force spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the development prompted the Kaduna State Governor to convene a meeting of the State Security Council at the Government House, Kaduna. However, he explained that confusion arose during the meeting when some individuals from the affected local government area disputed the report earlier confirmed by the police, describing it as false. According to him, the conflicting accounts necessitated caution and further verification before making definitive public statements on the matter. The police said comments made by the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State during a media interaction were aimed at preventing unnecessary panic while facts were being confirmed and were not intended to deny the incident. “The remarks, which have since been widely misinterpreted, were a measured response pending confirmation of details from the field, including the identities and number of those affected,” the statement said. He said subsequent verification by operational units and intelligence sources later confirmed that the abduction did take place. Hundeyin said coordinated security operations were immediately activated in collaboration with other security agencies, with a focus on rescuing the victims and restoring calm in the area. “Subsequent verification from operational units and intelligence sources has confirmed that the incident did occur. The Nigeria Police Force, therefore, activated coordinated security operations, working closely with other security agencies, with a clear focus on locating and safely rescuing the victims and restoring calm to the area, ” he said. Hundeyin said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the full deployment of critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and surrounding communities. “The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has directed the full deployment of critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and surrounding communities. These efforts include deployment of tactical units as well as intensified patrols already in place, targeted search-and-rescue operations, and proactive measures to protect lives and property. “The Nigeria Police Force appeals to members of the public and the media for patience and cooperation. The public is encouraged to rely on official police communications for verified information and to avoid speculation or sensational reporting that could jeopardise ongoing operations or heighten public anxiety. “The Force remains fully committed to the safety of all citizens and will continue to provide updates as developments unfold, ” he said. The Christian Association of Nigeria in Kajuru Local Government Area had claimed that bandits abducted about 172 worshippers during a church service on Sunday. However, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, swiftly dismissed the report, describing it as a falsehood allegedly being spread by “conflict entrepreneurs” seeking to create chaos in the state. Similarly, the Kaduna State Government also refuted the claim, insisting that there was no mass abduction of church members in Kajuru Local Government Area. https://punchng.com/police-confirm-kaduna-abduction-deploy-tactical-units-to-rescue-victims/ |

ABUJA — The identities of the 177 persons kidnapped from ECWA Church and Cherubim and Seraphim Churches 1 and 2 at Kurmin Wali community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday have been revealed. The list paints a harrowing picture of entire families taken away from their homes and places of worship, leaving the community traumatised and virtually empty of able-bodied residents.. The raid came barely a week after the same community paid N2.6 million ransom to secure the release of 20 residents previously abducted, Vanguard reliably gathered. While government and security operatives denied the incident, a Police situation report obtained by Vanguard confirmed the attack occurred during church services. The report stated that information was received at about 5:45pm, on Sunday, indicating that the assailants struck around 11:25am, firing sporadically and forcing worshippers to flee into the surrounding forest. The situation report read: “Message received from DPO Kajuru indicates that on 18/01/2026 at about 1745hrs an information was received that same date at about 1125hrs, unspecified numbers of bandits armed with sophisticated weapons attacked ECWA church and Cherubim Serafim Church 2 at Kurmin Wali in Kajuru lga, The communities are yet to ascertain the number of worshipers kidnapped to unknown destination, the village is situated in a remote forest area, the DPO mobilized other sister security agencies and the military to the scene which cannot be accessed immediately due to bad road, concerted effort in collaboration with all stakeholders has been intensified to rescue the victims and possibly arrest the perpetrators, investigation has commenced”. As of yesterday, the village was deserted. Those who escaped had fled to nearby communities to stay with relatives and friends. Some who sustained injuries during the escape were reportedly still in shock, while poor network coverage and lost phones made it difficult to reach them for comment. Analysis of the 177 victims Analysis of the 177 names obtained by Vanguard revealed that entire households were abducted. Families such as the Jonathan household had 12 members kidnapped; the Amos family 13; Markus/Makudi 10; Ishaya and Danisa seven each; Bawa six, Danjuma and Musa five each. Other families saw four, three, or two members taken away. The oldest victim is 71-year-old Augustina Matthew, while the youngest, Salvation Idris, is a child of six. Other children include Likita Amos, 6; Jumota Idris, 7; Tessy Amos, 8; Yahaya Joshua, 9; and several 10-year-olds, including Sussana Idris, Synthah Amos, Hezibah and Hezikaiah Jonathan. Reactions. The denial by government officials has drawn sharp criticism from rights groups. Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria, CSW-N which insisted that the abduction occurred and accused security agents of obstructing independent verification. CSW-N Research and Press Officer Reuben Buhari said: “Thirty minutes after the incident, as the team was about to enter Kurmin Wali, CSW-N encountered a military convoy, including the chairman of Kajuru Local Government, which was leaving the community. “They later refused to allow CSW-N team entry, despite repeated pleas and after the team showed full identification. “The military officer who stopped the CSW-N said there was a standing order not to allow us in. Consequently, our team turned and was escorted to the main road, back to Kaduna.” CSW-N added that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and on foot, split into three groups, and simultaneously targeted the churches. “Elderly women and young children were later released, while 11 reportedly escaped, leaving 167 in captivity at the time of the organisation’s engagement with community sources,’’ the group stated. CAN Chairman speaks. The Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Rev. Dr. Joseph Hayab, accused security agents of enabling the bandits to escape with large number of victims. He said: “If the security agents had gone after the bandits, they would have prevented them from taking the victims to where they are now hiding. Instead, the security agents only helped the bandits move the victims to a place where they could conceal them and make their demands. “Had they pursued the attackers immediately, instead of arguing over whether anyone had, indeed, been kidnapped, they would have chased them away, whether they were right or wrong.” International condemnation pours in In his reaction, US lawmaker, Rep. Riley Moore, described the abduction as “horrific news” and urged the Nigerian government to ensure swift and safe return of the victims. He tweeted: “Our brothers and sisters in Christ are facing an existential threat at the hands of the Fulani militants. More must be done to protect them, and I urge the Nigerian government to ensure the swift and safe return of all those who were captured.” Another unfortunate incident — Peter Obi Similarly, former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, also raised alarm over the incident, describing it as “unacceptable” and highlighting the recurring pattern of mass abductions across Nigeria. He said: “I have just been informed that yet again, at the weekend, about 172 worshippers were abducted from churches in Kaduna. This is another unfortunate consequence of a nation where insecurity has been allowed to grow unchecked and unchallenged. “Even with official denials, we must ask ourselves hard questions, can we continue waking up to news of mass abductions, disputed figures, and denials while citizens live in fear?” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/01/kaduna-names-of-177-abducted-worshippers-revealed/
