CrimeNigerian Girls As Young As 13 Trafficked To Ivory Coast As Sex Workers (pics) by Newlymarried(op): 5:13pm On Aug 26, 2024
A new report has revealed how girls as young as 13 from Nigeria are trafficked to Ivory Coast under the guise of selling 'body cream' only to be forced to undergo prostitution.

According to a new report by the Guardian UK, thousands of Nigerian girls were tricked with promises of work by agents taking advantage of the high unemployment level in the country.

Once they arrive in the city of Bouaké, the first words they are taught are “Alors baiser” and “c’est douce” which they use to initiate sexual activity and then to fake pleasure during the act.

A girl known as Sara reportedly said her mother’s best friend had told her she was going to the Ivorian city to sell body lotion. Instead, an older woman – a “madam” who had paid for her travel without her knowledge sent her to brothels in the city every night.

Sara (not her real name) says she is paid between 3,000–5,000 Central African Francs (CFA) – between £3.90 and £6.50 (N8,000-13,000 )– for every man she sleeps with for a “short time” and 25,000 CFA for an overnight stay. The money is split three ways between the brothel, Sara and the madam.

Three months after arriving in Bouaké, Sara is still waiting to earn enough to pay off debts of 2.5m CFA to the madam for travel, clothes, sustenance and bribes paid to agents, and return to Nigeria.

“She [the madam] took my Nigerian sim card when I came here, so I couldn’t call my people at home for the first month,” says Sara, who now goes by the name of Sugar and refused to give her real age.

Across Nigeria, recruiting agents go into rural communities or post in jobseekers’ groups on Facebook, talking ambiguously about hustles that yield plenty of rewards and sending photographs of girls and women they have recruited to known madams.

They coach recruits to tell immigration officials, who are sometimes aware of what is happening or simply don’t care enough to carry out proper scrutiny, that they are crossing the border to go to the nearby market in Cotonou, an auxiliary port for Nigeria.

Many recruits say, agents, who have been known to be a relative, do not accompany them on the journey but pass their numbers to other agents who guide them across the porous borders. With no means of identification, they gain access by paying bribes of 1,000-2,000 CFA, sometimes paid ahead to the driver by the agents.'' the report read

According to the paper, its reporters spoke to at least two dozen girls and women in the forest, some as young as 15. Some of them said they had been starved for refusing to work or beaten up by angry men who came to them for sex.

The report says many of the girls barely speak French and say they don’t know the country well enough to be able to escape.

Nigerian immigration officials who have managed to repatriate girls trapped as sex workers say they have seen girls as young as 13 that were trafficked.

“A lot of the girls we found claim to be over 18 and doing sex work of their own free will, but most of the time from their physical appearance, you know they are not,” says the former Nigerian official. “Tests to determine their age, such as scanning a wisdom tooth, cost about 50,000 CFA so you have to talk to them, but if they are insistent, you let them go back.”

The report concludes;

For Sara, the wait to return home goes on. She was in junior secondary school in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, before dropping out to travel to Ivory Coast. These days she is learning how to barter condoms for other items.

“I really don’t like the work I’m doing here. I miss my people at home,” she says.

Foreign AffairsCameroon President, Paul Biya To Contest Again At 93 by Newlymarried(op): 12:44am On Aug 23, 2024
President Paul Biya of Cameroon is set to contest the country's presidential election again at the age of 93.

Biya, who is Africa's longest-serving president, is currently 91 years old.

He will contest in the 2026 Presidential Election to seek an eighth term, by which time he will be 93.

Founder of the Foreign Press Association Africa, Kennedy Wandera disclosed this Thursday, August 22, citing TheEastAfrican.

The report read: "Cameroon is due to hold its next presidential election in 2025, longtime President Paul Biya will be 93. He has confirmed that he will contest.

If he wins the election, and completes the new seven-year mandate, Biya will be 100 years in 2032.

According to the report, Biya's decision to delay the election by a year (postponed from 2025 to 2026), and to allow him to contest despite his age, has angered the opposition in Cameroon.

The report stated that opposition politicians may not be allowed to contest, leaving Biya free to win again and serve for 7 years.

Biya has served as the President for 42 years since 1982. He also served as the Prime Minister for 7 years from 1975 to 1982 before then. He postponed the Parliamentary and Municipal elections until 2026.

"Cameroon's parliament last month approved Biya's request to postpone parliamentary and Municipal elections until 2026 to allow some breathing space, claiming that the political calendar is crowded," the report said.

CrimeGod Told Me To Sleep With My Step Daughter,Abort Pregnancy- Pastor by Newlymarried(op): 2:29am On Aug 21, 2024
A 16-year-old girl living in Osogbo, Osun State, has accused her stepfather, a clergy simply identified as Femi, of getting her pregnant when she was 13.

The victim, seeking alternative dispute resolution, reported the issue to the World Institute for Peace (WIP), a Non-Governmental Organisation.

She claimed in an affidavit, sworn to at the Osun State Ministry of Justice, that after her stepfather impregnated her, the pregnancy was aborted.

During a meeting with the officials of the NGO, the victim said that the matter was reported to her teacher in school after about four years of constant abuse by her stepfather.

During an alternative dispute resolution meeting organised by WIP, the victim explained that Femi started “having s£xual int£rcourse with me since I was 12. When I was 13 years old, I got pregnant and he took me to a hospital for an abortion.

He asked me to lie to the doctor that my classmate impregnated me and ran away. The first time he had int£rcourse with me was on my mother’s bed and he has been doing it continuously.

I decided not to take the matter to court because my mother had four children for him, although two were de@d.

I don’t want a situation whereby when the children grow up, it would be as if I am the one who sent their father to prison. I decided not to take legal action because of his children who are my younger siblings.

At the meeting, Femi, who claimed to be a commercial motorcyclist besides being a pastor in a church he established, admitted to committing the crime.

“It is true I slept with her although I don’t remember the number of times I did it with her. I’m a pastor and it was God who told me to sleep with her. God also told me to abort the pregnancy,” he said.

The affidavit, sworn by the mother of the victim on her behalf, read, “My daughter went to the human rights organisation, World Institute for Peace, and reported a case of def!lement and ab0rtion levelled against her stepfather, Femi, early in August 2024

“That, she (victim) agreed to resolve the dispute through alternative dispute resolution and has engaged in negotiation.

“That the family is not ready to pursue any case whatsoever with Mr Femi any longer. That the purpose of withdrawing was as a result of a settlement between the families which she was the sole proposition on the settlement.”

The chairman of the NGO, Lamina Omotoyosi, urged parents to ensure the safety of their children especially, from close family members and relations, lamenting increasing cases of incest in the state.

President Bola Tinubu has sacked Jalal Arabi, as Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON)

In a statement released, Presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that the President has nominated Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Chairman of the agency.

“Professor Usman is a renowned scholar with qualifications from two Islamic centres of excellence — the University of Madinah and Peshawar University, Pakistan. He is also well-grounded in Hajj operations, having served as the Chairman of Kano State Pilgrims Board, and successfully superintended the operations of the largest quota of state pilgrims in the country.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate. The President expects the new Chairman of NAHCON to discharge his duties with integrity, transparency, and utmost fidelity to the nation.”

Arabi who was appointed in October, ran into trouble over the 2024 Hajj which the Federal Government released N90 billion to subsidise.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arrested Arabi and the commission’s secretary, Abdullahi Kontagora, over the issue.

An EFCC source had said a total of 314,098 Saudi Riyals was recovered from the sacked NAHCON chairman.

“The chairman fraudulently overpaid himself, the commissioners, secretary and directors for the 2024 hajj operational cost.

The chairman was entitled to SR15,929 but he got SR50,000; three commissioners who were meant to get SR 15,929 each received SR 40,000 each. The secretary got SR 30,000 instead of SR14,336. Directors/Chief of Staff received SR 30,000 instead of the SR2,550 they were entitled to. The total of SR314,098 were recovered from all of them,” the source said.

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki for failing to acknowledge his reinstatement by the court, claiming that he was instrumental in making Obaseki governor.

Shaibu made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s political program, Politics Today, on Friday, August 16.

Shaibu revealed that it took former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole three months to convince him and his supporters to back Obaseki for the governorship position. Shaibu also claimed that Obaseki lacked financial strength at the time, and was only able to ascend to power due to the resources and political capital provided by him and his allies.

He said;

“Obaseki was not a politician, even financially, Obaseki was not financially strong to even contest the election. Oshiomhole brought him and when Oshiomhole brought him, some of us argued that he could not be him. It took Oshiomhole three months to convince me and some of our supporters to support Obaseki.

“And when we decided because of the respect for Oshiomhole to support him, he did not bring money – we brought our resources and our friends to bring money and we brought our political capital to make him governor. So, when you are talking about deputy governors and governors, he is not the one that made me, I made him.”

The relationship between Shaibu and Obaseki has been strained over issues related to the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State. Shaibu, who was chosen as Obaseki’s deputy to add political value to the ticket, has accused the governor of attempting to hinder his political ambitions by cutting off finances due to him as deputy governor. He also claimed that he has not received any payments from the government for the past year.

After being reinstated by a Federal High Court, Shaibu returned to his duties as deputy governor and instructed his staff to do the same. However, the Edo State Government responded by accusing Shaibu of impersonating the deputy governor, a charge that Shaibu strongly refuted.

“The holder of the office of the governor in Edo State today is lawless, Godwin Obaseki is lawless. If he is not lawless, he will not say Philip Shaibu is impersonating because there is a valid court judgment that he has been served,” Shaibu asserted.

The legal battle began after the Edo State House of Assembly impeached Shaibu in April. However, a July 17 judgment by Justice Omotoso declared the impeachment illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void. The court ordered Shaibu’s reinstatement, the payment of his salaries and allowances from April, and issued an injunction preventing Governor Obaseki and the Edo State House of Assembly from obstructing Shaibu from performing his duties. The court also directed the Inspector General of Police to restore Shaibu’s security details.

Despite the court ruling, the Edo State House of Assembly has appealed the judgment and filed a motion for a stay of execution pending the appeal. The legal and political conflict between Shaibu and Obaseki continues to unfold as both sides seek to assert their positions.

A US-based Nigerian man has disclosed how tough it is finding accommodation in the United States of America.

He revealed that many years ago, he had to pay $80 to sleep in a "pod-like box" for 8 hours per day.

He added that the money only covers 8 hours after which the occupant must leave so that someone else who paid can occupy the box.

For the rest of the day, the person remains homeless.

He shared photos of the sleeping boxes, several of which were built into a room and closed with wooden doors.

Each box is a tiny space built that can contain just a small mattress and nothing else. The box has no fan or any of the appliances needed for a good night's sleep.

FamilyShe Never Tore My Passport. It Was A Skit – Husband Appeals To Immigration by Newlymarried(op): 2:31am On Aug 15, 2024
The husband who previously did a video to accuse his wife of tearing his passport at the airport has now made a U-turn and called out bloggers for highlighting the story.

A video went viral over the weekend, showing an altercation at the Lagos International Aiport after a woman "tore" her husband's passport.

In the video, the wife clearly admitted to tearing the passport.

The wife later published another video where she said she had her reasons for tearing her husband's passport. She added that she intentionally tore it at the airport in Nigeria so he would not be able to travel back.

In response, the husband also released a video of his own, telling the world that his wife is the problem. He then released an extended video of the altercation at the airport and added that he knew his wife would create a scene so he gave his friend his phone to film her actions.

Now, after his wife was picked up by Immigration officers and taken to Abuja for questioning, the man is singing a different tune. He claimed the video was just a "skit". He then tried to turn the blame on bloggers for publicising the story.

He said: "I'm here with my kids to send an appeal to the public of Nigeria, to the whole world also, that what my wife tore, is not passport.

"Please be a blogger, when you're blogging, blog and blog well. Don't go and blog to spoil things, please.

"She never tore my passport, she never spoilt my passport. My passport is intact."

He added: "We're doing a skit.”

The Anambra State Government has launched an operation against syndicates using children to beg for alms in Awka, the capital city.

The operation was carried out by the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare Anambra State in collaboration with the Awka Capital Development Authority (ACTDA), where 16 children as well as adults were raided off the street.

Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the Women and social welfare Commissioner who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, said the flyover bridge at Aroma junction has for long become a den of child beggars who are used by syndicates to beg for alms.

“In line with Governor Soludo's mandate of taking school children out from the streets, the Women and social welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo said the raid is not to make the children victims, but to use them to get at the syndicates that uses them for begging,” the statement read.

“Obinabo also reiterated the state government's stand in maintaining the low number of out-of-school-children in the state.”

On his part, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Mr Ossy Onuko said the operation is a welcome development of taking children off the streets and assured of his agency's support in ensuring that the needful is done for a livable and prosperous homeland.

The statement further disclosed that it was a tough battle rounding up the street kids as they immediately fled as the enforcement team made to arrest them, with some of them putting up a fight.

They were, however, rounded up and bundled into waiting vehicles and taken away.

Obinabo said the operation will continue in all parts of Awka to ensure that the town was rid of children being used by syndicates to beg for alms.

After the operation, identification of the children as well as adults began, and it was discovered that all the arrested individuals were not Indigenes of Anambra as some were either from Ebonyi state or Enugu state.

The Women Affairs boss assured that contact tracing of the parents of the kids will begin in earnest.

Residents of the area say children constitute an eyesore as they run around during school hours begging for alms, but have also constituted themselves into nuisance as they always steal from people
