Two years later, the evidence on ground suggests otherwise, with tangible progress across critical sectors.

The Renewed Hope Agenda is not a slogan. It is a documented national blueprint under the purposeful leadership of President Tinubu, guiding policy, budget, and governance across Nigeria. Its impact is already being felt within and outside the shores of the country, restoring confidence in government and governance.

At its core, the Agenda reflects the vision and experience of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and is structured around 8 priority areas: Food Security, Poverty Eradication, Economic Growth and Job Creation, Access to Capital, Inclusivity, Rule of Law, and the Fight Against Corruption. From policy formulation to tangible results on the streets and in communities, Nigerians are beginning to see the difference.

In the area of Food Security, strategic investments under the Renewed Hope Agenda in dry-season farming, fertilizer distribution, and support for smallholder farmers have begun to stabilize food supply chains. Special interventions in grains and livestock are aimed at reducing food inflation and making staple foods more affordable for families. This is a deliberate effort to ensure that no Nigerian goes to bed hungry.

On Economic Growth and Job Creation, reforms championed by President Tinubu in fiscal policy and the unification of the exchange rate were tough but necessary steps. They have restored investor confidence and strengthened the foundation for sustainable growth. The result is a renewed wave of local and foreign direct investment in manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure. New industrial parks and MSME support funds are creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs across the 36 states and the FCT, turning job seekers into job creators.

The Access to Capital pillar has produced one of the most visible youth-focused interventions in recent years. Student loan schemes through NELFUND, consumer credit, and single-digit loans for small businesses are ensuring that Nigerians who have viable ideas are no longer blocked by lack of funding. This is expanding financial inclusion and unlocking the creativity of our youth.

In Infrastructure and Connectivity, ongoing projects prioritized by the President Tinubu administration in roads, rail, ports, and energy are reconnecting the country. The focus is not only on initiating new projects, but on completing abandoned ones that had stalled for years. This is improving logistics, reducing the cost of doing business, and opening up rural communities to urban markets.

No development can happen without peace, and that is why Security, Health, and Grassroots Governance are central to the blueprint. Under President Tinubu, National Security has received renewed attention through increased funding for the armed forces, enhanced intelligence sharing, and community policing initiatives. The Road Ahead requires patience, perseverance, and endurance. No nation transforms overnight. But the reforms underway under the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, are already laying the foundation for a more productive, inclusive, and globally competitive Nigeria.

GORONYO SEEKS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION TO STRENGTHEN ONION VALUE CHAIN IN SOKOTO

The Honourable Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., has called for urgent Federal Government intervention to strengthen the onion value chain in Goronyo, Sokoto State, with a view to reducing post-harvest losses, improving farmers’ livelihoods and unlocking the economic potential of the sector.

The Minister made the call today when he paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, MFR, in her office, where he formally presented a request for targeted intervention in the onion value chain in Goronyo, one of West Africa’s major onion production hubs.

According to the Minister, Goronyo possesses enormous potential for onion production but farmers in the area continue to face challenges, including inadequate storage facilities, poor transportation and logistics infrastructure, limited local processing capacity and difficulties accessing sustainable markets.

He noted that these challenges contribute significantly to post-harvest losses and severe price fluctuations, particularly during peak harvest periods, thereby reducing farmers’ incomes and limiting the economic benefits of onion production to the local community and the wider economy.

To address these challenges and unlock the full potential of the sector, the Minister sought the support of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment for targeted interventions, including the development of modern onion storage facilities, improved transportation and logistics, expansion of local processing capacity, access to affordable financing, and stronger domestic and export market linkages.

He also requested the leadership of the Ministry in coordinating the proposed interventions in collaboration with relevant institutions, including the Bank of Industry (BOI), Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).

Rt. Hon. Goronyo stressed that a coordinated and sustainable intervention would help reduce post-harvest losses, increase farmers’ incomes, create employment opportunities, strengthen food security, promote agro-industrial development and position Goronyo as a major regional hub for onion production, processing and export.

He further emphasised that developing the onion value chain in Goronyo would not only benefit farmers and communities in Sokoto State but also contribute to the Federal Government’s broader efforts to diversify the economy, promote agricultural value addition and expand opportunities for Nigerian farmers and businesses.

The Minister said the initiative is fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly the administration’s commitment to agricultural development, economic diversification, job creation, food security and improving the livelihoods of Nigerians.

INTRODUCTION

Leadership is defined in many ways and to varying degrees, but it is predominantly expressed as the ability to develop others and the desire to inspire followership. People tend to follow those who inspire actions that produce desired results. To me, leaders are born, not made. Born leaders find it easier to develop and improve their leadership abilities than those who are made leaders. God ordained leadership, and having the opportunity to lead is a privilege one must take earnestly. So, people in leadership positions are to honor Christ, the most outstanding leader and the best example of leadership. We must also ask for his guidance in prayer to lead appropriately and gracefully.

As Christians, we are all leaders in our own right, showing others how to follow Christ. To be an effective and impactful leader, we must make Christ our mentor and be rooted in the word and knowledge of God. Accordingly, the word of God says, “When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan” - Proverbs 29:2 NLT. Our focus should be on being the leader who makes the people rejoice, cultivating godly character instilled by a relationship with God for a purposeful, impactful, and fulfilling experience.

Ibe Opuyingibo of Twon Brass Kingdom in Bayelsa State, the President of the
Queens of the Niger Delta Initiative, and the wife of King Alfred Papapereye
Diete-Spiff, CFR, Amanyanabo (king) of Twon Brass Kingdom, also the first
Military Governor of old Rivers State, Nigeria. I was born on January 14th, 1967, to the late Rev. (Dr) D. U. Akporero, an educationist, acclaimed writer, publisher, and the late Rev. (Mrs.) Florence Ozomaro Akporero, an educationist. I am an ordained Anglican Evangelist with a healing and deliverance calling.

I had a humble beginning. My parents had issues with children dying. They had 12 children and lost 5. I am my parents' third and first daughter. According to them, they had buried their first child, a female, and another after my eldest brother. Then came my immediate elder brother, but before my birth, they buried three more, making five deaths in total.

Except for the first child, who was already two years old when she died, the others died at their naming ceremony. So, my parents were skeptical that I would survive. Right from my naming ceremony, I kept having convulsions, and in the space of 6 months, they visited the hospital once every week. As God would have it, before my 6th month's birthday, my mum and her visiting friend had a guest who came to minister Christ to them. While the guest tried to expound the gospel to them, my mum asked him to pray for me first because they had plans to dispose of me as soon as possible due to the cost they were incurring in taking me to the hospital and the fear that, like my late siblings, I might not make it to adolescence.

According to my mum, the guest looked at me playing on a mat and said, "Do not let her go; she will be the one to look after you in your old age. She will marry a man who has just been made governor of one of the states of Nigeria. He will be a King, and she will be His Queen. She is a Nazareth; sew a cap to cover her head, and don’t let anyone touch her head except you. She will be fine, and you will never see any of your children die again.”
My mum and her friend laughed at him in scorn. But a week later, when the convulsions started again, my mum told my dad, and they bought a cap for me, and that was the end of my ailment. However, they forgot the rest of the prophecy until I met my husband in 1990, 23 years later, when I was the president of the students' union at the University of Port Harcourt. That was when it was revealed to my mum again in a dream, which led them to the approval of my marriage to my husband after the initial refusal.

EDUCATION AND BUSINESS

I firmly believe in success. I set goals for myself and work hard at attaining them. I was Head Girl at the Primary School level, Senior Prefect at the Secondary Level, and Student Union President at the University. I craved more in life and pursued my dreams, letting my goals grow. I carried blocks on a building site to pay for my West African School Certificate examination. Despite severe financial challenges, I graduated with honors in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt. I worked during the holidays, and the little money I made sustained me through school. I made and sold coconut candy, ‘chin-chin,’ a local pastry, and later graduated to the sale of ‘Okirika’ clothes (second-hand clothes) and other materials. I ate once a day, a formula dubbed 001 by students. I lived on fruits and corn (in their seasons). ‘Smoked’ garri (a cassava product and staple in the region), among others, to survive. I learnt the difference between wants and needs. Still, despite that scarcity, I gave to those in need and trained my siblings, their children, and others who were less advantaged. I led every establishment I got entangled in, except for my refusal-there was always a space and an encouragement for me to lead.

I have a hunger for knowledge. After my first degree, with three children, the man of my dreams, and owning my business, I returned to school. I hold a
Master’s and Doctorate in Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts and Law
Degrees, Microfinance banker’s certificate, and a graduate certificate in Education. I also hold diplomas in French, Computer Science, and Christian Ministry. I am a certified marriage mentor, relationship coach, certified Fitness instructor, and licensed financial professional.

In recognition of my work as an educationist, banker, and other social contributions, I have received several global awards.

There were, of course, some challenges along the way. I had an encounter in the
Law School where I lost the use of my right hand for over a month before my Bar exams. I also had people trying to disorient my focus, and I even dreamt that the enemy was trying to prevent me from graduating. But to God be the glory. My hand started writing on the first day of my exams, and I graduated in my first sitting without losing my focus in Christ.

I have been in business for over three decades. I manage four companies and an
NGO (non-governmental organization)- a school, Titare Star Royal Academy
(Activity Class, Base, Basic, Year 7-9 and Year 10-12), formerly Bereton College, an Educational and Consultancy Institution, and three business outfits, namely Four-Time Product Nigeria Ltd, Peretogu Integrated Services, Nigeria, and Miracle Development Leadership Services, USA. I pioneered the NGO, Her Majesty Dr Josephine Diete-Spiff Foundation for widows, orphans, the physically challenged, and older adults. I own majority shares in my entire establishment and serve as Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer. I am swamped, working from the office to church and social functions.

I am an ordained evangelist of the Anglican Communion and an author of several books and publications. I have two academic publications online and four books on Amazon, namely Determining Sustainable Strategies for Directors of Microfinance Banks in Nigeria, Dare to Dream (for Teens), Dare to Dream (for adults), and True Worship.

The Executive Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, is a leader setting the political pace in Jigawa. "He is the best amongst equals," Maidabino Umar stated.

President Of Ogun State Council of Baales, Chief Tunji Falola Marks 82nd Birthday In Grandstyle
The President of the Ogun State Council of Baales, Chief Tunji Falola, has celebrated his 82nd birthday with prayers, praise and goodwill messages from traditional rulers, family members, friends and other dignitaries.

The celebration was held on Wednesday at Sweet Estate Lounge and Bar, Abeokuta, with traditional rulers from across Ogun State and members of Senator Yayi’s support group in attendance.

The event began with a religious prayer at the celebrant’s residence in Lantoro, Abeokuta, where pastors prayed for his continued good health and long life.
Speaking at the celebration, Chief Tunji Falola appreciated the guests for honouring him and celebrating with him.
He maintained that he is impressed with the love showered on him on his birthday, saying that he will continue to make them proud.
Falola also appreciated all the Baales across the Ogun State for their support and cooperation, urging them not to relent in their efforts in promoting peace and unity in their respective communities.

He said that the celebrant since his emergence as the President of Ogun State Council of Baales has performed beyond the expectations of other Baales, saying that he has won heart of many with his great achievements.
Chief Sanni therefore wished the celebrant continued good health and long life.
“My President is very nice to every Baale in Ogun State, he is very accommodating, he likes everyone of us. He uses to advise us and also he is a man of integrity. Yes we are fully in support for Senator Yayi. For 5 years ago, Yayi has been taking care of all Baales in Ogun State. For example see this vehicle, he gave us not more than 3-week now, Yayi is the candidate that all Baales are supporting to be next Governor of Ogun State” he concluded
Also the son of the celebrant and Chief Executive Officer of the Sweet Estate Unique Properties and Facility Management, Chief Olumide Bidemi Fasola also spoke about his father, expressing appreciation to God for his life and the opportunity to celebrate his 82nd birthday with family and friends.
He described Chief Falola as mentor and good father who wants the best for all his children.
He said “Like i said he is my father and I will be able to tell you more about him than any other person. He has been a mentor, a good father who wants the best for his children and anybody around him, as you can see he deliberately mentioned that i am for Yayi and i want to support Yayi. He has never supported any candidates for any elections in his life. This will be the first time so we the children, we are supporting him for supporting Yayi so see us as Yayi’s family” he concluded

The Danger of Intellectually Dishonest Politicians

There is a growing and dangerous breed in our politics: the intellectually dishonest elite.

We call them Doctors, Professors, Senior Advocates, analysts, columnists and celebrated social commentators. In years past, these titles carried weight. Their opinions on the pages of newspapers and their interventions on television commanded respect because they appeared to be driven by conviction, scholarship and principle.

But something has changed.

Today, some have turned their intellect into a political commodity, selling eloquent speeches, impressive vocabulary and sophisticated arguments to the highest bidder. Their convictions change with their paymasters. Their principles have become negotiable, and their morality is now available for political hire.

Yesterday, they condemned a politician as incompetent. Today, they defend the same politician with astonishing enthusiasm because he has become their benefactor. Yesterday, they demanded accountability; today, they manufacture excuses for the very conduct they once condemned. And anyone who dares to criticize their new political master suddenly becomes their target.

This is not intellectual independence. It is intellectual prostitution of public discourse.

The most troubling part is that these people often hide behind their academic credentials. A PhD does not automatically confer wisdom. A professorship does not guarantee integrity. A law degree does not make one morally consistent. Academic intelligence and intellectual honesty are not the same thing.

A person can be highly educated and still be profoundly dishonest with facts. One can speak impeccable English, quote constitutional provisions, cite philosophers and sound brilliant on television while deliberately misleading the public.

As we approach 2027, Nigerians must therefore learn to look beyond titles, certificates, accents and impressive rhetoric. Judge the messenger by the consistency of his principles, not the sophistication of his vocabulary.

Beware of political scavengers masquerading as intellectuals and public-interest advocates. They appear in expensive clothes, carry impressive degrees and speak with authority, but their allegiance is often not to truth, justice or the public good,it is to whoever currently pays the bill.

Nigeria does not need intellectuals who rent out their conscience for political patronage.

We need scholars who can challenge their own side.
We need lawyers who defend principles, not personalities.
We need commentators whose opinions cannot be purchased.
We need leaders and thinkers who would rather lose political access than lose their integrity.

In 2027, let us interrogate the arguments, examine the records and test the consistency not the titles.

Because the most dangerous political weapon is not ignorance.

It is intelligence deliberately placed at the service of dishonesty.

Among such institutions, the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority occupies a critical position within the national architecture for water resources and agricultural development.

Serving Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa and Gombe States, the Authority is mandated to harness water resources for irrigation, ensure farmland accessibility and seasonal allocations to genuine farmers, provide modern farming tools and equipment, drive flood control, and support rural development.

In this context, leadership becomes a defining factor in translating policy into impact.

At the helm of the Governing Board of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority is Barayan Bauchi Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad Baban Takko. He is an elder statesman and distinguished patriot whose public service trajectory reflects discipline, foresight, and commitment to national development.

Four years after Nigeria recognised his humanitarian excellence, the mission continues through compassion, service and the restoration of human dignity.

As the world comes together once again to commemorate World Humanitarian Day 2026 (WHD 2026), the occasion provides an opportunity not only to honour humanitarian workers across the globe, but also to reflect on individuals whose lives have become synonymous with compassion, service and the defence of human dignity.

In moments like this, we are reminded that humanitarianism is not a seasonal gesture, but a lifelong commitment to people who need hope the most.

For Nigeria, and particularly for the North-East, one name that deserves to be remembered in this conversation is Malam Musa Umar Yashi, FCAI. He is a globally recognised humanitarian, philanthropist, seasoned administrator, respected statesman and one of the emerging leaders whose influence continues to be measured not merely by the offices he has occupied, but by the lives he has touched.

His story speaks to a leadership that prioritises people over protocol, and service over spectacle.

And there is a remarkable point of reference in his humanitarian journey. It was World Humanitarian Day 2022 (WHD 2022).

Four years ago, Malam Musa Umar Yashi received national recognition as Nigeria's Humanitarian Person of the Year 2022, in a Presidential recognition associated with the 2022 World Humanitarian Day celebrations. The Honourable Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, PCC, and Chief Ombudsman of the Federation, *Hon. Bashir Abubakar, MFR, Barden Kudun Zazzau*, has formally declared open a capacity-building training programme for staff of the Commission from the North-Central Geopolitical Zone.

The training, held at the NUC Multi-Purpose Hall, Abuja, brought together officers in a vibrant atmosphere of learning, engagement and renewed commitment to professional excellence.

Declaring the programme open, the Chief Ombudsman said the training was designed to retool staff with modern skills in complaint resolution, mediation, investigation, and customer service, in line with the Commission’s mandate of providing accessible, fair and timely redress to Nigerians.

He noted that as the nation’s foremost accountability institution, the PCC must continue to raise the bar in service delivery.

“The essence of this training is to ensure that every staff of the Commission, regardless of zone, is equipped to serve with integrity, empathy and professionalism. Our people deserve an Ombudsman they can trust,” he said.

Hon. Bashir Abubakar, MFR, further charged participants to see themselves as ambassadors of justice and hope for the common Nigerian. He urged them to be diligent, impartial and people-centered in the discharge of their duties.

“The title ‘Chief Ombudsman of the Federation’ comes with great responsibility. It means we must be the last line of defense for the ordinary citizen against maladministration. Let this training renew our commitment to that sacred duty,” he added.

The Chief Ombudsman commended the organizers and facilitators for putting together a robust curriculum, and encouraged staff to take full advantage of the sessions to improve their capacity.

The North-Central zonal training is part of the Commission’s ongoing nationwide staff development programme aimed at strengthening institutional performance and deepening public trust in the PCC.

His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, the Olu Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, has concluded his two-year rotational tenure as Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, handing over to His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland.

The transition took place yesterday at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where the Alake was formally inaugurated as the new Chairman of the Council by Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON., the Executive Governor of Ogun State.

Oba Olugbenle assumed the chairmanship two years ago and provided distinguished leadership to the Council at a period when the traditional institution continued to play a significant role in promoting peace, security, community development and social cohesion across Ogun State.

Addressing the Council, Oba Olugbenle expressed his appreciation to Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON., for his support in strengthening the traditional institution and for demonstrating deep respect for the royal fathers in the state. His Majesty also appreciated the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, and the entire Ministry for the support and cooperation extended to him throughout his tenure.

Kabiyesi further expressed gratitude to his fellow traditional rulers for the confidence reposed in him, as well as their cooperation and support throughout his tenure, noting that the achievements recorded by the Council were products of collective effort.

Oba Olugbenle congratulated the Alake on his assumption of office as Chairman, expressing confidence that his wealth of experience and wisdom will further strengthen the Council and advance the collective interests of the traditional institution in Ogun State.

In his address, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON., appreciated the Council for their support, describing them as “partners in governance and agents of socio-economic development.” His Excellency particularly appreciated the efforts of the royal fathers in strengthening the security architecture of the state, while further declaring that Ogun State will be no sanctuary for kidnappers and criminals. Governor Abiodun also appreciated Oba Olugbenle for his wise leadership and guidance, urging the Alake to build on the achievements of his predecessor.

Perhaps the most remarkable feature of Oba Olugbenle’s chairmanship was his understanding that the most powerful form of leadership is example. The baton has changed hands, as it should; however, Oba Olugbenle leaves behind a record of two years in which the dignity and relevance of the traditional institution were upheld.

A child starting Primary 1 today may not enter the workforce until around 2040.

Yet many of our classrooms are still preparing children for the economy of the 1980s.

We still place too much emphasis on memorising notes, passing exams and reproducing what the teacher said.

But the world has changed.

The child of today will grow into a world shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, renewable energy, biotechnology, digital finance and global competition.

So why are we still teaching as though all they need is a certificate?

Nigeria’s education system needs more than another small adjustment. It needs a complete rethink.

At primary school, children should still learn strong reading, writing and mathematics. But they should also begin learning digital skills, basic financial literacy, gardening, first aid, public speaking and simple problem-solving.

Junior secondary school, students should be introduced to coding, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, debate, critical thinking, environmental awareness and practical life skills.

At senior secondary level, we should stop forcing every child into the old Science, Arts or Commercial boxes.

Students should be able to follow proper career pathways such as:

• Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science
• Engineering and Manufacturing
• Healthcare and Biotechnology
• Business and Global Finance
• Modern Agriculture and Food Processing
• Film, Animation and Digital Media
• Law, Governance and Public Policy

Before leaving secondary school, every Nigerian student should have more than WAEC or NECO results.

They should leave with a recognised digital skill, practical project experience, confidence in public speaking, some exposure to work or apprenticeship, and either a business idea or portfolio showing what they can actually do.

We must also change how students are assessed.

Not everything should depend on one final examination.

Let students build projects.

Let them solve real problems.

Let them work in teams.

Let them spend time in workshops, farms, laboratories, offices and industries.

Nigeria cannot keep producing graduates who know how to pass exams but do not know how to create value.

The purpose of education should not be to produce millions of young people waiting for government jobs.

It should be to raise problem-solvers, builders, innovators and employers.

A nation cannot become prosperous with an education system that belongs to the past.

The child entering school today will live in the future. Our curriculum must get there before they do.

In every institution, there comes a moment when leadership is tested. It is not tested by ceremonies, titles, or official photographs, but by the ability to confront difficult realities and restore hope where disappointment has lingered for too long.

For the staff of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), that moment has become a remarkable chapter in the story of Malam Bashir Abubakar, MFR, Barden Kudun Zazzau, Chief Ombudsman of the Federation.

When he assumed the responsibility of leading the PCC, he inherited challenges that had weighed heavily on the morale and welfare of members of staff. Among the most painful was the issue of workers who had, according to the account of the affected staff, been receiving only half of their salaries since 2016.

The breakthrough came with the full implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) for PCC staff, effective from the July 2026 salary payment. This brought to an end the regime of half-salary payments that had persisted for years.

The Chief Ombudsman of the Federation attributed this milestone to sustained engagements with the Presidency, the National Assembly, the Budget Office of the Federation, and the Federal Ministry of Finance. These engagements culminated in a significant increase in the Commission’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) allocation, as well as the approval of an intervention fund to strengthen the institution.

Staff who had endured years of financial difficulty were able to breathe again, regain confidence, and look towards the future with renewed hope. The restoration did more than correct a payroll anomaly; it restored faith in the possibility of change within the system.

While acknowledging the feat, the Chief Ombudsman of the Federation urged staff to reciprocate the renewed government support with enhanced professionalism, diligence, integrity, and transparency in the discharge of their duties. He further encouraged officers to continue supporting ongoing staff and payroll audits, including biometric verification, while reaffirming his commitment to the settlement of outstanding staff entitlements and the improvement of working conditions across the Commission as additional funding becomes available.

The atmosphere in the Commission changed almost overnight. The way the staff were full of happiness and excitement was exhilarating. They were so happy, and for many, it felt like a new dawn had finally come to the PCC.

But the story did not end there. Beyond resolving the issue of the half salary, the leadership of the Chief Ombudsman of the Federation also facilitated an increase in the salaries of the workers. This further demonstrated that his understanding of leadership goes beyond simply solving yesterday’s problems.

It is also about creating better conditions for tomorrow, about building an institution where effort is rewarded and commitment is valued. And perhaps, that is where the true beauty of this story lies.

Because when a leader improves the welfare of his people, the impact is rarely confined to a payroll. It reaches homes. It reaches families. It reaches children’s education, household responsibilities, and the dignity with which workers face each new day.

A salary restoration may appear on paper as an administrative achievement. To a struggling worker, however, it can mean hope restored, dignity recovered, and a family rescued from prolonged uncertainty.

Chief Fredrick Ayotokunbo Fadipe is a Nigerian media practitioner, publisher of News Angle Int'l Magazine, and traditional community leader who serves as the Baale of Mamu Land (Ijemo Land, Oke-Mosan) in Abeokuta, Ogun State. TINUBU TO RELIGIOUS LEADERS: RAISE YOUR VOICES AGAINST TERRORISM, KIDNAPPING, BANDITRY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on religious and spiritual leaders across Africa and beyond to consistently raise their voices against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and the misuse of religion to justify violence and cruelty, stressing that no genuine service to God can be advanced through the destruction of innocent human life.

The President also urged religious institutions and networks to strengthen their advocacy for peace education, religious literacy, scholarship and the moral formation of young people, while using their influence to promote justice, responsibility, compassion and peaceful resolution of grievances.

President Tinubu made the call on Sunday in Kano in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, at the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani, RTA.

Addressing the World Khalifa of the Tijjaniyya Order, distinguished scholars, spiritual leaders and adherents from Nigeria and other countries, the President said religious leaders have an important responsibility in confronting violence, extremism and the manipulation of faith for destructive purposes.

“Your voices must be raised consistently against the murder of innocent people, against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and the misuse of religion to justify cruelty. Your institutions and networks must become stronger in the advocacy for peace education, religious literacy, scholarship and the formation of upright young men and women.

“You must also remind political leaders of justice, responsibility and compassion, while reminding citizens that legitimate grievances must never become permission for lawlessness or violence. Above all, our spiritual fathers must continue to teach that no genuine service to Allah is advanced by destroying the innocent human life that Allah has made sacred,” the President said.

President Tinubu observed that the gathering was taking place at a consequential moment in human history, with societies across the world confronted by conflicts, uncertainty, climate shocks, food and energy shocks, violent extremism, terrorism, transnational crimes and increasingly dangerous manipulation of identity and religion.

Citing a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees report, the President noted that 117.8 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide at the end of 2025, stressing that the scale of global challenges makes the intervention of spiritual leaders increasingly indispensable.

According to him, spiritual leaders “guard the frontiers of conscience” through their capacity to heal wounds, resolve grievances and dissolve deep-seated hatred and bitterness.

The President said the Tijjaniyya community, with its extensive spiritual networks across West Africa, North Africa and beyond, possesses relationships and moral capital that could be deployed for reconciliation, countering violent extremism, youth guidance and humanitarian solidarity across the Sahel, West Africa and the wider world.

He said the Federal Government recognises the critical roles of religious and traditional leaders in deepening tolerance, countering misinformation and identity-based division, strengthening grassroots peacebuilding and promoting peaceful coexistence.

President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to regional cooperation, counter-terrorism, maritime security, economic integration and dialogue, noting that the country's strategic location at the intersection of West Africa, the Sahel, Lake Chad Basin, Gulf of Guinea and the wider Atlantic world makes its peace and stability consequential to the wider region.

“Our position means that peace in Nigeria has consequences far beyond Nigeria. It also means that religious communities with deep transnational connections, such as the Tijjaniyya, can be valuable partners in building an architecture of social peace that complements the work of governments and regional institutions,” he said.

The President explained that such partnership should mobilise the ethical resources of religion, including truthfulness, compassion, justice, restraint, service and the sanctity of human life, for the common good.

He described Nigeria's extraordinary diversity and plurality as among the country's greatest strengths, assuring that the Federal Government would continue to uphold the freedom of Nigerians to practise their faith while strengthening collaboration with religious and traditional institutions to promote peace, mutual respect and national cohesion.

President Tinubu also welcomed the World Khalifa of the Tijjaniyya Order, scholars, spiritual leaders and other guests who travelled from Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and other countries for the Maulud, describing Nigeria as a country where the Tijjaniyya tradition has established deep roots in scholarship, remembrance, service, moral instruction and peaceful community life.

He recalled recently receiving a high-level delegation of the Supreme Council of Tijjaniyya at the State House, Abuja, where prayers were offered for the peace, unity and prosperity of Nigeria as well as the enduring relationship between Nigeria and Algeria.

The President said the Maulud offered adherents an opportunity for reflection, renewal and recommitment to the teachings of Islam, the love of Prophet Muhammad and the spiritual legacy of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani, particularly the virtues of humility, mercy, wisdom, service and giving comfort to others.

President Tinubu also paid tribute to the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose foundation played a significant role in organising the Maulud, describing him as one of the towering figures whose absence was deeply felt at the gathering.

He recalled describing the late Islamic scholar, following his death in November 2025, as “a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason, and as an advocate of peace and piety.”

According to the President, the most enduring monument that could be built in honour of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi would be the preservation of his legacy of Qur'anic scholarship, moral instruction, devotion to Allah, respect for learning, peaceful coexistence and concern for the wellbeing of society.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the Supreme Council of the Tijjaniyya, the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation, the Government and people of Kano State, scholars, traditional rulers, security and emergency services, organisers and volunteers for their contributions to the successful hosting of the event.

“Nigeria is honoured by your presence and we pray that you return to your homes safely, carrying with you the affection and hospitality of the Nigerian people. May Almighty Allah accept the prayers and acts of devotion offered at this Maulud,” the President said.

How greed and criminal intent Pushes Fish Sellers To Use Industrial Dyes To Mask Spoiled Seafood


Driven by greed and criminal intent,some fresh fish sellers across Nigerian markets are now brushing industrial red dyes into decaying fish to make them appear fresh, a practice health experts say poses serious health risks.

Investigations reveal that the unwholesome practice, common among small-scale traders, involves applying chemical dyes to the dull, grayish gills of day-old or spoiled fish to give them the vibrant, crimson look associated with a fresh catch.

In nature, fish gills turn from bright red to dark brown or pale gray shortly after death as oxygen leaves the blood. Fraudulent vendors are exploiting consumers’ belief that “red gills equal fresh fish” to mark up prices and avoid losses.

Health practitioners have warned that the chemicals used are industrial-grade dyes containing heavy metals and toxic compounds.

“What we are witnessing is not just economic fraud; it is a calculated threat to human life,” said Dr. Hassan Abdullahi, a health practitioner.
“These sellers are prioritizing profit over safety. Consuming fish tainted with these chemicals can lead to acute gastrointestinal destruction, severe food poisoning, and potentially permanent kidney and liver damage.”

Caterer Mrs. Yemisi Dauda described how the dye is applied: “These chemicals were being meticulously brushed into the dull, grayish gills of day-old or decaying fish to give them the vibrant, crimson appearance of a morning catch.”

Several traders and consumers blamed worsening economic pressures as the main driver of the criminal practices.

With present electricity tariffs, many vendors say ice production and refrigeration have become too expensive to preserve unsold stock overnight. Rather than discard spoiled fish, some resort to the chemical cover-up to sell at premium prices.

Mrs. Josephine Audu, a caterer, narrated her experience: “Last weekend, I bought some red snapper that looked beautiful at the stall, but when I got home and submerged it in water, the gills completely lost their color and the water turned bright red. The fish smelled terrible underneath. We truly have to be detectives just to feed our families safely now.”

Civil servant Mrs. Sherifatu Kazeem said: “For years, the number one rule my mother taught me when buying fish was to look for bright red gills. Knowing that criminals are now weaponizing that exact rule to poison us for profit makes me want to stop eating fresh fish altogether.”

Chef Mabel Ajede urged consumers and restaurant owners to look beyond gill colour.
“I always tell my kitchen staff to smell the fish and check the firmness of the scales, not just look at the gills. If you wash a fish and the water runs pink or red, throw it out immediately! It is a scam and a health hazard,” she said.

Trader Mrs. Fatimetu Dirisu described the trend as criminal that can't be justified just because of cost for electricity and ice for everyday market women to preserve their goods, and then allow desperation to set in.

Solar-powered cold stations can be provided by Government in markets to help honest traders preserve food safely without turning to crime,” she said.

Health authorities are yet to comment on possible regulatory action, but experts are calling for increased market surveillance and affordable cold-storage solutions to curb the dangerous practice.

Celebrating an Icon at 84: King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff, Amanyanabo of Twon Brass Kingdom

Over 84 years ago, precisely on July 30, 1942, the now Nembe Kingdom in present-day Bayelsa State witnessed the birth of an Ijaw son who would later ascend the throne of kingship in Twon Brass Kingdom as the Amanyanabo, King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff, OFR, CFR.

A highly decorated Naval Lieutenant Commander, he was appointed Military Governor of Rivers State in 1967 at the young age of 24 during General Yakubu Gowon's military regime. He served from May 1967 until July 1975 and was also part of the Supreme Military Council.

He began his educational journey at St. Joseph's College, Tiko and later attended Dartmouth in England at Britannia Royal Naval College before enlisting in the Nigerian Navy. He was commissioned as a ships diving officer in 1964.

King Alfred hails from the esteemed family of Diete-Spiff, whose commendable achievements are proudly remembered in Twon Brass Kingdom, Bayelsa State.

Growing up, young Alfred was immersed in discipline and hard work, as his father was known to be a strict disciplinarian who did not tolerate indiscipline within his highly respected family.

While serving in the Nigerian Navy, retired Naval Commander and King Alfred Diete-Spiff demonstrated intelligence and dedication among his peers, which eventually led to his appointment as Military Governor of Rivers State.

King Alfred is married to Her Majesty Dr. Josephine Alfred Diete-Spiff, Esq., the Queen of Twon Brass Kingdom and the President of the Queens of the Niger Delta Initiative, and they are blessed with wonderful children.

He now spends most of his time as an elder statesman, supporting the younger generation of leaders with his wealth of knowledge and managing the affairs of his kingdom as the Amanyanabo.

A quiet and highly focused king, he remains apolitical in Nigeria's national affairs. Still, he actively contributes to the unity and progress of his state and Nigeria as a whole through his wisdom.

All hail the king as we celebrate him on the milestone of 84 years on this earth. May wisdom, knowledge, and sound health continue to be his blessings as he continues to serve God and humanity.
