Amanyanabo Dokubo-Asari's Team, KASA wins MILO trophy, Unveils Five-Year Plan to Transform King Amachree Sports Academy The Obuama boys of KASA, the basketball team, groomed and mentored by Da Amakiri Tubo, Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, Amanyanabo of The Source, Elem Kalabari, Torusarama Piri have made history as national champions at Nigeria's most prestigious MILO secondary school basketball championship, King Amachree Sports Academy, (KASA) of Obuama, Rivers State, and Government Secondary School (GSS), Gboko, Benue State, emerged champions of the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively as the curtain fell on the 26th Nestlé MILO Secondary Schools Basketball Championship at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Thursday. While GSS Gboko cruised to a convincing victory in the girls’ final by 68-36 points, the boys’ title was decided by one of the most dramatic finishes in the competition’s history, with King Academy Sports Academy staging a stunning comeback to edge defending champions Father O’Connell Science College, Minna, 56-54. The championship, which attracted the best secondary school teams from across Nigeria after months of regional qualifiers, once again underlined MILO’s long-standing investment in grassroots basketball and youth development. This is the 7th year of KASA's participation in the youth basketball tournament. The academy, founded by Da Amakiri Tubo, Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, Amanyanabo of The Source, Elem Kalabari and Torusarama Piri, is set to undergo a comprehensive upgrade through a strategic partnership with EEXSport Digital Company Limited, one of Nigeria's foremost sports management and development firms headed by veteran sports broadcaster and administrator Emeka Enyadike. The announcement comes on the heels of KASA's remarkable victory at the 26th Nestlé MILO Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, where the Rivers State academy stunned defending champions Father O'Connell Science College, Minna, with a dramatic 56-54 victory to claim the national title. The triumph marked a defining moment for the academy and validated years of investment by Dokubo-Asari in youth development through education and sports. The championship attracted the best secondary school basketball teams from across Nigeria after months of regional qualifiers, with KASA emerging as the country's new boys' champions. Speaking after the historic victory, Dokubo-Asari described the achievement as only the beginning of a much bigger vision. "We are proud of what these young boys have accomplished, but our ambition goes far beyond winning national championships. Our goal is to build an institution that will consistently produce champions, scholars and leaders who can compete anywhere in the world," he said. To realise that vision, the academy has entered into a five-year strategic partnership with EEXSport Digital Company Limited, a sports consultancy with extensive experience in sports management, commercial development, athlete pathways and international partnerships. At the centre of the transformation is Emeka Enyadike, one of Africa's most accomplished sports professionals. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Enyadike has earned recognition as a sports broadcaster, football analyst, publisher, sports marketer, club administrator and development consultant. He was among the pioneers who helped shape modern sports journalism and football administration in Nigeria through his work in television, sports publishing and football management. As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EEXSport Digital Company Limited, he has advised sports institutions, federations and private organisations on sports business, sponsorship, media strategy, athlete development and international collaborations. His experience and global network are expected to play a pivotal role in repositioning King Amachree Sports Academy as one of West Africa's leading centres of sports and academic excellence. Under the agreement, EEXSport will oversee technical management, operational development, educational enhancement, commercial strategy, sponsorship, marketing and international partnerships, while ownership and governance of the academy remain with Dokubo-Asari and the Academy's Board. The transformation programme is built around six strategic pillars—academic excellence, sports excellence, leadership development, international pathways, community impact and financial sustainability. Beyond strengthening existing programmes in basketball, football, athletics, swimming, volleyball, handball and tennis, the academy will adopt a holistic "Play, Study and Progress" model that integrates quality education with leadership development, digital skills and career preparation. A major feature of the initiative is the creation of an International Athlete Pathways Programme, designed to expose outstanding students to European training camps, international showcases, scholarships and professional club placements. Through EEXSport's global relationships, talented athletes from Obuama will have direct access to opportunities that could launch international sporting careers. Sports analysts believe the partnership represents one of the most significant private-sector investments in sports education in the Niger Delta in recent years, combining visionary leadership with professional sports management to create a sustainable model for athlete development. For Dokubo-Asari, however, the project is about far more than sporting success. He believes that investing in young people through quality education, discipline and structured sports development is one of the surest pathways to building stronger communities and a more prosperous nation. If the vision is realised, King Amachree Sports Academy will not only be remembered as the school that conquered Nigeria's biggest secondary school basketball championship, but also as the institution that produced generations of athletes, scholars and leaders whose impact will extend far beyond the nation's borders.

LASU VC Advert Sparks Controversy as Professor Abanikannda Questions Selection Criteria A fresh controversy has emerged over the recently advertised position of Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), with former Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Olatunji Abanikannda, alleging that some of the requirements were deliberately designed to favour a preferred candidate and exclude others from the race. In a lengthy statement posted on his Facebook page, the profesor criticized several provisions contained in the advertisement, particularly the use of the word “several” in describing eligibility requirements and the insistence that applicants must have delivered their inaugural lectures. The professor argued that terms such as “few,” “several,” and “many” are inherently imprecise and should not replace exact figures in official recruitment advertisements, especially for a position as significant as that of a university vice-chancellor. According to him, previous advertisements for similar positions in federal, state and private universities, including LASU’s past vice-chancellor recruitment exercises, specified clear numerical benchmarks rather than relying on vague quantifiers. He described the requirement that applicants “must have presented his or her inaugural lecture” as one of the most contentious aspects of the advert, questioning whether inaugural lectures are a compulsory academic milestone. The academic further claimed that the organization of inaugural lectures at LASU has, over time, become vulnerable to administrative and political considerations, potentially disadvantaging otherwise qualified candidates who have not been given the opportunity to present one. While acknowledging that several other criteria contained in the advertisement align with established standards for university administration and leadership, he argued that some requirements focus more on future deliverables than on measurable past achievements of prospective candidates. The statement also raised concerns about the advertisement’s requirement that candidates must be in “excellent physical and mental health” and possess verifiable certificates to that effect. The professor questioned how such assessments would be conducted, who would conduct them, and how the results would be verified. Beyond the specific criteria, he alleged that the advertisement could be laying the groundwork for a contentious succession process that may eventually lead to the appointment of an acting vice-chancellor. He further claimed that efforts were being made to position a candidate who became a professor on October 1, 2023, for the university’s top job, despite having less than three years of professorial experience by the expected date of assumption of office. Drawing comparisons with LASU’s recent advertisements for the positions of Registrar and Bursar, the professor noted that those notices contained clearly defined experience requirements, including a minimum of five years in a deputy capacity, rather than ambiguous terms such as “several.” He called on members of the university community, governing authorities and stakeholders to review the advertisement and address what he described as “booby traps” capable of triggering unnecessary disputes during the selection process. The professor urged those responsible for overseeing the institution to ensure transparency and fairness in the appointment process, warning that failure to do so could undermine the legacy of the university and the investments made in it over the years.

In a dramatic last-minute development, Israel has now agreed to join the two-week ceasefire with Iran that President Donald J. Trump announced just 90 minutes before a potential massive escalation. A senior White House official confirmed that Israel is on board with the temporary truce—making this a broader, coordinated pause in what had been rapidly spiraling toward full-scale war. Earlier, Trump revealed he would suspend planned U.S. strikes on Iran following urgent talks with Pakistan’s leadership, contingent on Iran agreeing to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The move came at the final hour before a deadline that had raised fears of devastating military action. Now, with Israel officially joining the agreement, the ceasefire becomes a multi-front de-escalation effort rather than a unilateral pause. Trump described the deal as a “double sided ceasefire,” noting that U.S. military objectives have already been met and that negotiations toward a long-term peace agreement are close to completion. According to the President, Iran has already submitted a 10 point proposal, with most major issues reportedly agreed upon, leaving this two-week window to finalize what could become a historic agreement aimed at stabilizing the Middle East. The stunning sequence of events marks a rapid shift—from the brink of widespread conflict to a fragile but potentially significant diplomatic breakthrough.

Dame Dr. Josephine Diete-Spiff’s life is a compelling narrative of purpose, passion and perseverance. As the Queen of Twon Brass kingdom in Bayelsa State, she is a shining light of intellectual curiosity, spiritual conviction and community-driven leadership. Her multifaceted role as an evangelist and educationist has left an enduring impact on her communities, reflecting a deep commitment to shaping lives and inspiring positive change. Her academic path is a remarkable one. A Theatre Arts graduate from the University of Port Harcourt, where she led with distinction as President of the Students’ Union, she pursued a law degree from Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, and became a Barrister at Law in 2007. Her pursuit of knowledge took her to the University of Liverpool, UK, where she earned an MBA, and later, a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University, USA. Her academic accomplishments have been further recognised with a PhD, Honorary Causa, from Ashland University, Ohio, USA, and she has acquired a graduate certificate in Early Childhood Education from Walden University, USA. A Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Administration, she has honed her skills as a banker, finance professional and fitness trainer. Over three decades, she has accumulated a wealth of experience, leading organisations and initiatives with aplomb. As Chairperson of Titare Star Royal Academy and Four Time Product Nigeria Ltd, and CEO of Peretogu Integrated Services, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her philanthropic endeavours are equally impressive, with the establishment of the HRM Dr. Josephine Alfred Diete-Spiff Foundation, which empowers women and youth. In response to her recognition as an outstanding woman in Nigeria, she took us through what drives her passion for women empowerment, her achievements, her foundation, among other issues. Continuing Women’s Empowerment and Development in Nigeria My commitment remains steadfast. Through the Queens of the Niger Delta Initiative and other platforms, we will keep expanding programs focused on education, economic empowerment, and leadership development for women and young girls. We are strengthening partnerships both locally and internationally to build sustainable support systems—scholarships, vocational training, and mentorship opportunities. Our aim is not just empowerment but transformation—raising women who will then empower others. Foundation’s Notable Achievements and Future Plans Our foundation has made a meaningful impact by providing scholarships for underprivileged children, promoting sports among young girls to help them become actively engaged, supporting self-reliance programs for widows, and offering food, clothing, housing, and financial assistance to vulnerable families. One of our main accomplishments is creating opportunities where none existed— restoring hope to those nearly losing it. Looking ahead, we plan to expand our initiatives by implementing structured empowerment programs, increasing educational support, girls’ sports, and launching more community-based interventions that foster self-reliance, dignity, and aspirations. My passion is fueled by a deep sense of purpose and compassion. I have personally observed the struggles of women, widows, and vulnerable children, and I firmly believe that no woman should be kept back by her circumstances. Every life we touch, every girl we teach, and every woman we uplift strengthens my resolve. The awards feel humbling, but the real reward is witnessing lives change and hope come back. Strategies to Encourage Girls’ Education and Leadership First, we need to improve accessibility—ensuring every girl has the opportunity to attend school regardless of her background. Secondly, we need strong advocacy and community engagement to change mindsets that limit the girl child’s development. Mentorship is also essential. When young girls see women in leadership roles, they start to believe it’s achievable. Finally, policies must support and safeguard the rights of girl children to education and development. Increasing Women’s Participation in Politics Women need encouragement and support to enter political spaces. This involves deliberate mentorship, financial backing, and inclusive policies that open opportunities for women. We also need to change the narrative—women are not just supporters in politics; they are capable leaders and decision-makers. Collective support among women is essential. When women support women, progress becomes unavoidable. Overcoming Challenges as a Woman in Leadership Like many women, I have encountered challenges such as societal expectations, gender bias, and the pressure to constantly prove my competence. However, I have overcome these challenges through faith in God, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose. Challenges are not barriers—they are stepping stones. They have shaped me into a stronger and more determined leader. Advice to Young Nigerian Women Aspiring to Leadership I encourage young women to be intentional about growth—educationally, professionally, and spiritually. Leadership calls for discipline, resilience, and ongoing learning. Don’t hesitate to take bold actions. Build skills, develop strong values, and surround yourself with supportive mentors. Most importantly, trust in yourself. Your background should not define your future. Source: Guardian Nigeria

UK – The Nigerian government has signed an agreement with the United Kingdom to receive deported failed asylum seekers and convicted criminals, as both countries deepen cooperation on migration control and security. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to the United Kingdom, the Home Office announced on Thursday, March 19. The deal also allows Britain to return visa overstayers to Nigeria and introduces flexible provisions for deportation processes. Under the agreement, Nigeria will recognise UK-issued identification letters for individuals without valid passports, eliminating the need to wait for emergency travel documents before deportation. Border Security and Asylum Minister, Alex Norris, described Nigeria as a key partner in addressing illegal migration, noting its position as the UK’s largest African visa market and home to many Nigerians. He stated that individuals who violate immigration laws or attempt to exploit the system would be stopped and removed, adding that the agreement is part of efforts to restore order at the border by ensuring swift removal of those without legal rights to remain. He also emphasised the importance of fairness across the migration system. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated that Nigeria remains committed to fulfilling its responsibilities as a nation, adding that the partnership with the United Kingdom is significant and reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that sustaining the relationship requires openness and fairness, expressing optimism that the strengthened partnership would serve as a model for other bilateral agreements. He added that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to safe, fair, and well-managed migration, while also noting the increase in deportations and the need for joint operations and information sharing to tackle criminal activities linked to visa abuse.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Friday, February 27, 2026, ordered the remand of the former Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, alongside his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe and their son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami in correctional facilities, pending the determination of their bail applications. Malami and his son, being the first and third defendants were remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre, while Asabe, the second defendant was ordered to be remanded in the Suleja Medium Correctional Centre. Their re-arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, followed the re-assignment of the case from Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja to Justice Abdulmalik. The party is being tried on an amended 16-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, procuring, disguising, concealing and laundering proceeds of unlawful activities to the tune of N8,713,923,759.49 (Eight Billion, Seven Hundred and Thirteen Million, Nine Hundred and Twenty-Three Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty-Nine Naira, Forty-Nine Kobo), contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. At the commencement of proceedings, prosecution counsel, Chief J.S. Okutepa, SAN, noted that the matter was coming before Justice Abdulmaik for the first time and sought the leave of the court for the amended charges to be read to the defendants. He drew the court’s attention to corrections made in Counts 11 and 12 regarding the numeric values to tally with the amounts already stated in words in the charge. Counsel to the defendants, J.B. Daudu, SAN, raised no objection to the amendment but urged the prosecution to formally apply for it. Justice Abdulmalik granted the prosecution’s request to amend the numeric values in the affected counts to align with the figures in words. Count one of the charge reads: "That you Abubakar Malami, SAN, and Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, between July 2022 and June 2025, in Abuja, procured Metropolitan Auto Tech Limited to conceal the unlawful origin of the sum of N1,014,848,500.00 (One Billion, Fourteen Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) in a Sterling Bank Plc account, when they reasonably ought to have known that the sum constituted proceeds of unlawful activities, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 21(c) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and punishable under Section 18(3) of the same Act". Count five reads: "That you Abubakar Malami, SAN, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami and Hajia Bashir Asabe, an employee of Rahamaniyya Properties Limited, sometime in September 2024, in Abuja, conspired to disguise the unlawful origin of the aggregate sum of N1,049,173,926.13 (One Billion, Forty-Nine Million, One Hundred and Seventy-Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twenty-Six Naira, Thirteen Kobo) paid through the Union Bank Plc account of Meethaq Hotels Limited, Jabi, between November 2022 and September 2024, contrary to Section 21 of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and punishable under Sections 18(2)(a) and 18(3) of the same Act". Count six reads: "That you Abubakar Malami, SAN, and Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, between November 2022 and October 2025, indirectly took control of the aggregate sum of N1,362,887,872.96 (One Billion, Three Hundred and Sixty-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Seven Thousand, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Two Naira, Ninety-Six Kobo) paid through the Union Bank Plc savings account of Meethaq Hotels Limited, when they reasonably ought to have known that the funds constituted proceeds of unlawful activities, contrary to Section 18(2)(d) and punishable under Section 18(3) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. They all pleaded “not guilty” to the 16-count charges, following which the prosecution counsel asked the court for a trial date and for the defendants to be remanded in the custody of a Correctional Centre. In response, the defence counsel informed the court that the defendants were on bail, granted by Justice Emeka Nwite when they were first arraigned and that the bail conditions had been perfected. “My Lord, the defendants were granted bail when they were first arraigned before Justice Nwite and the conditions were perfected. They have not flouted any of the conditions. The Federal High Court is one. We pray that the existing bail should continue,” he said. While the prosecution counsel in his response conceded that the defendants had earlier been admitted to bail and acknowledged that Federal High Courts are one, he, however, argued that the court had the discretion to either adopt the previous bail terms or require the defendants to satisfy fresh conditions. “Your lordship has the discretion to either adopt the terms earlier granted or subject them to fresh bail conditions to ensure their attendance in court. The conditions can be transferred to this court since it is the same Federal High Court,” he said. In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik held that the previous bail having been terminated by the reassignment of the case, the defendants must therefore file fresh bail applications before the court. “I am of the view that the earlier bail has been terminated. In that wise, I order that fresh bail applications be filed before this court,” she said. An oral bail application, made by the defence counsel was rejected by the court and directed that a formal bail application be filed, especially considering the weight of the allegations. Justice Abdulmalik further directed the prosecution to grant the defence team access to the defendants to enable them prepare for trial and adjourned the matter till March 6, 2026, for the hearing of bail applications and commencement of trial.11

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and a convicted Terrorist,, Nnamdi Kanu, has been awarded honorary citizenship by the State of Georgia in the United States. Kanu, who is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Correctional Facility following his conviction on terrorism-related charges by the Nigerian government, was honoured through an official proclamation issued by the Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger. The proclamation, dated January 16, 2026, declared Kanu an “Honorary Georgia Citizen” and also recognised him as a Goodwill Ambassador of the state. The document was formally received on Kanu’s behalf by a former Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, Uche Ajulu, during a presentation in Georgia on Friday. The proclamation states, “I, Brad Raffensperger, Secretary of State of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim Nnamdi Okwu Kanu as an Honorary Georgia Citizen. “May this Outstanding Citizen be accorded every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from Georgia in his travels to other states, to nations beyond the borders of the United States of America, or wherever he may hereafter travel or reside. Thank you for your service to our state. It will be noted that since the conviction of Nnamdi Kanu on Terrorism related charges members of the proscribed group IPOB has been doing the best to dent the process that led to his conviction when many lives were lost under his command in the eastern part of Nigeria. Some notable Nigerians frown at the decision honouring a convicted criminal which they see as an indirect support for terrorism.

The ceremony, “Twon Brass Thanksgiving Service,” with the theme: “The Lord’s Thanksgiving” (O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: for His mercy endureth forever -Psalm 136:1 KJV), took place on the 30th of November, 2025 at Twon Brass Pavilion, opposite General Hospital, Abuja, Twon Brass Kingdom in Bayelsa State. He was of the view that this year’s Thanksgiving was better than the previous ones, disclosing that plans are already on the way for next year’s event, which he believed would be far better than that of this year. On the impact of the annual Thanksgiving to the people of his kingdom, HRH Rufus-Spiff opined that Thanksgiving is a people’s way of honouring God, adding that when a community decides to come together to honour their creator, the impact according to him, brings about peace, oneness, harmony and anything that has the attribute of God. He maintained that the community has been peaceful, and that people are going about their businesses peacefully, which according to him, are some of the impacts of the annual thanksgiving service, which they are grateful to God for. Responding to the efforts of the organizers of the 3rd Edition Thanksgiving Service, HRH Rufus-Spiff said: “They did their best and I believe we will do better next year. For Her Majesty, she really tried, because she was on ground for a couple of days before the event. “Kudos goes to her, because she has been the one that is really, really backing and spearheading the programme. Thank God for a person like her to be our Majesty,; HRH Rufus-Spiff stated. On his message to the people of Cameron Ama, HRH Rufus-Spiff stated that they are the aborigines of the community that are blessed by God. He thanked his people for coming out en-masse to ensure that the event was successful, and particularly to the young girls of Cameron Ama, who gave an excellent dance performance at the Thanksgiving Service. While promising to personally do more for the betterment of next year’s ceremony, HRH Rufus-Spiff assured that the people of Cameron Ama will continue to give their best, for other communities to emulate. The traditional ruler, who referenced a certain number of people in Canada, America, that started Thanksgiving before it went round America, noted that believing in thanksgiving by Americans, brought the country to where it is today, as a great country. Speaking in an interview, HRH Rt. Hon. Israel Sunny Goli (Kemmer V Amadabo of Kemmer Ama), Twon Brass Kingdom, described the outcome of the Thanksgiving Service as “a huge success,’ because it was a thanksgiving to the Lord and the kingdom being a creation of the Lord, where they have lived peacefully for so many years, according to him. He noted that the leaders and the people of the kingdom, having known that their existence is from the Lord, thought it wise to hold a thanksgiving service in His honour. Comparing the previous editions of the Thanksgiving Service and the recently concluded 3rd Edition, the paramount ruler was of the view that the previous and current editions have been a huge success, pointing out that any area that is found not to be as expected in the last edition would be improved upon, come next year. On the need for government support to have a better and bigger thanksgiving, come next year, HRH Goli, emphasised that it was already enshrined in the law of Bayelsa State, to hold her annual Thanksgiving Service every 2nd day of November, adding that government has been supportive to the Thanksgiving Service over the years in one way or the other. To the organisers of the Thanksgiving Service, HRH Goli said: “Well, for Her Majesty, we will always thank her for leading the community to the Lord. Because, being a Queen that we have in the kingdom, she is always interested in the things of the Lord. “That is why you can see everybody in the community coming out to support her, every year, and for the organizers, I want to thank them for doing a great job. We don’t have enough to give them, but the good Lord will reward them, for all that they have done so far, including Her Majesty,” HRH Goli stated. The traditional ruler in his Christmas message, prayed for the goodness of the Lord to continue to shine upon them and equally wished them a Merry Christmas and prosperous new year in advance. In the sane vein, His Highness Golden Sinteh, the Secretary to Amanyanabo in Council, Twon Brass Kingdom, Bayelsa State; described Twon Brass as the first place that a church of God was built in the history of Bayelsa State, which implies that the people have a relationship history with God. He stated that the Thanksgiving Service reignited the excitement of the people as they were once again, brought together as a people, to thank God for the numerous things He has done for them, as they look forward to the next edition of the programme. Comparing between the current and previous editions of the Thanksgiving Service, Highness Sinteh said that the recently concluded edition of the Thanksgiving Service was well attended, compared to the previous ones, pointing out that the event brought about re-connectivity of the people with their ancestors, who sacrificed a lot for the existence of the people. He equally lauded Her Majesty Queen Dr. (Barr ) Josephine Diete-Spiff, for bringing a guest preacher, in the person of Pastor Dr. Sam Seth Eyedoude, whose sermon at the event, resonated the people’s spirit, and made them feel the presence of God in the course of the event. On the need for collaboration, His Highness Sinteh opined that peaceful environment provides for unity and development, hence the need to bring onboard, both indigenes and non indigenes from different states are residing in the state, as well as government and oil companies operating in the area, to be involved in plan and activities of the next edition, which plans have already kick-started, according to him. On his word to His Eminence King Alfred Diete-Spiff, Highness Sinteh said: “My word to the King is to thank him for his seriousness, courage, support and concern for the programme. You know, during the first edition, he knelt down in the presence of everybody to beg for forgiveness upon the land. “I must commend him for reigniting the spirit of the people and making the whole world know that all traditional rulers are not fetish in nature, and that God remains the supreme being, and I am happy about that. “I commend other traditional rulers that are taking the Thanksgiving Service seriously, the women and the youths for the excitement and expectations in the next edition,” Highness Sinteh stated. While speaking on the need to work on the arena of this year’s Thanksgiving Service to give it a befitting status come next year’s edition, Highness Sinteh in his words of commendation to Her Majesty Queen Dr. (Barr.) Josephine Diete-Spiff further said: “Her Majesty has been the cornerstone, if she had agreed with the obstacles she had on this particular one, we wouldn’t have had a nice occasion. In fact, it wouldn’t have even come to be. “So, I want to sincerely thank and pray for her too, that God will continue to use her the way He has been using her to carry on with this project. It is a project of God and she has been the one to pioneer it, and I jealous her strength. I really jealous her strength for standing on the side of truth, that this thing ought to be done. I really want to thank her and pray for God’s protection and guidance for her, that at the end of the day, all glory and honour is ascribed to God, for her strength on this particular issue,” Highness Sinteh prayed. On his Christmas message to the people of Twon Brass Kingdom, Highness Sinteh charged the people not to forget where they are coming from, while celebrating, but to ensure that everything has to be done to the glory of God. Speaking in a chat, the Executive Vice Chairman, Brass LGA, Bayelsa State, Hon. Mrs. Juliet I.O Russia, described the outcome of the ceremony as awesome and something remarkable. She expressed her joy to Her Majesty Queen Dr. (Barr.) Josephine Diete-Spiff, who, in collaboration with her husband, His Eminence King Alfred Diete-Spiff, vowed that the Twon Brass Thanksgiving Service is held annually. The Council Vice Chairman equally thanked God for having Queen Diete-Spiff in Twon Brass Kingdom, describing her decision to carry out the annual Thanksgiving Service to the kingdom, as courageous and fear of God. She however, used the medium to enjoin women in other communities to emulate the good gesture of Queen Diete-Spiff, adding that such gestures will go a long way to transform and shape the communities for the good of all and sundry. She further stated that the impact of the annual Thanksgiving Service has brought about light, peace and as well, helped to bring the people closer to God. The Vice Chairperson maintained that the impacts of the Thanksgiving Service were evident in the community, especially on the part of the youths, as there are no issues of violence or restiveness in the area. On what the local government is doing to impact on the people, using the medium of the annual thanksgiving service; Hon. Russia disclosed that the local government chairman, Hon. Lucky Segbo, did the needful, by supporting the programme of the just concluded thanksgiving service and ensuring that the programme went well. In her goodwill message, Hon. Russia called on all and sundry indigenes of Twon Brass Kingdom, both at home and in the diaspora, to give their unalloyed support to the 4th coming edition of the annual Thanksgiving Service in the year, 2026. She in the same vein, called for more financial support from the local and state governments, and oil companies operating in the community, pointing out that business and development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. Hon. Russia was optimistic that the aforementioned collaboration, if achieved, would help to engage more ministers of God, gospel artists and the presence of more churches in the 4th edition, since the Thanksgiving Service is a non denominational one. She equally suggested that it would be nice to have a legislation at the local government that would empower the council, to financially support the annual Thanksgiving Service, even after they leave office. On her part, Her Highness, Mrs. Josephine Remi Douglas, wife of late Highness, Chief C.F. Douglas-James Spiff and the former Regent of Ada Ama, Twon Brass Kingdom, said that the annual Thanksgiving Service was a blessing from God, as each and everyone that attended the event had a feeling of the presence of God. She opined that it has been recorded that the Spirit of God visited Twon Brass, and the people would attest to the goodness of God at the event. Her Highness Remi Douglas, further maintained that the blessing of God upon the people was made manifest through Her Majesty, Queen Evangelist Dr. (Barr.) Josephine Diete-Spiff, whom God spoke to, concerning the annual Thanksgiving Service. The wife of former Amadabo of Ekperi Ama, also affirmed that this year’s Thanksgiving Service had a massive turnout, compared to the previous ones, and used the medium to call on the people of the kingdom to use the season of December, to embrace God. While Mrs. Mildred Egele, former women leader and Trustee of the Excellent Women of Twon Brass Kingdom in her response, affirmed that it was “The Lord’s Thanksgiving,” and that the Lord perfected his presence at the event. She was of the view that many of the participants were blessed at the event, as they look forward to hearing testimonies on what happened that day. The Excellent Women Trustee in her comparison, admitted that the just concluded 3rd Edition of the annual Thanksgiving Service was better than the previous ones, affirming that it will always get better. While maintaining that the 4th Edition would be exceptional and mind blowing, Mrs. Egele opined that they cannot count their blessings, but can count their sorrows and challenges, hence the reason to commend the organizers of the programme, for a job well done, and prayed to God, to give them more insight to come up with more ideas like this. On Her Majesty Queen Evangelist Dr. (Barr.) Josephine Diete-Spiff; Mrs. Egele said: “I pray that God should give her more revelation of his word. God should strengthen her. God should reveal himself, so that his mercy will be upon her, so that she can increase and bring more souls together to the Kingdom of God. “God should open doors for her and bless everything that she does for a living, Amen,” Mrs. Egele prayed. In her goodwill message, the former women leader wished the people of Twon Brass Kingdom a Merry Christmas in anticipation and prayed to God to use the Thanksgiving programme to open more doors for them. “Let them know God, and God to reveal himself, and above all, I pray that Twon Brass will be more united in one spirit, so that the highland will move forward. “I want to use this opportunity to pray for his Royal Majesty King Alfred Diete-Spiff, that God should strengthen him, God should enlarge his coast in the name of Jesus. God should bless him with more wisdom to lead Twon Brass to the promised land,” Mrs. Egele further prayed. Pastor Dr. Sam Seth Eyedoude, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Chairman, Bayelsa State, was the Guest Speaker at the event, while dignitaries, respected traditional rulers from different kingdoms in Bayelsa State, and beyond graced the Thanksgiving Service.

Aliko Dangote on Dangote Refinery Dangote slashes petrol price to N820, Dangote Refinery on petrol prices , Dangote Refinery on petrol price, Dangote Packaging expands output into African export President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has disclosed that his refinery is working round the clock to ensure recent reductions in the gantry price were fully reflected at the retail level. Speaking at a press conference at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Sunday, Dangote said his company is committed to ensure Nigerians enjoy the benefits of domestic refining. From Tuesday, he said, all MRS filling stations would begin selling PMS at prices not exceeding N740 per litre, starting in Lagos. He added that the refinery had reduced its minimum purchase requirement from two million litres to 500,000 litres to enable more marketers, including members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), to participate. “So if you come to the refinery today, you will get PMS at N699 per litre,” he said. Dangote disclosed that despite frustration and sabotage, the refinery would deploy its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks in the coming days and was prepared to procure additional units beyond the initial 4,000 if required to sustain affordable pricing nationwide. Responding to complaints from oil importers that the recent price reduction would result in losses, Dangote said the refinery was established primarily for the benefit of Nigerians. “Anyone who chooses to continue importing despite the availability of locally refined products should be prepared to face the consequences,” he said. He also highlighted quality differences, noting that products supplied through MRS and other offtakers from the refinery were straight-run fuels, unlike blended products imported from overseas markets. “Nigerians have a choice to buy better quality fuel at a more affordable price or to buy blended PMS at a higher rate. Importers can continue to lose, so long as Nigerians benefit,” he added. According to him, the refinery was driven more by legacy than profit, noting that he could have invested the 20 billion dollars elsewhere if financial gain were his sole objective. He further revealed plans to list the refinery on the Nigerian Stock Exchange to allow Nigerians own shares in the facility. “We want every living Nigerian to have the opportunity to benefit, no matter how small their holding. If the market takes 55 per cent and I retain 45 per cent, I am satisfied,” he said. He disclosed that discussions were ongoing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to enable Nigerians to purchase shares in naira while receiving dividends in dollars. Continuing, the President of DIL accused the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of misrepresenting the refinery’s capacity by publishing offtake figures rather than actual production levels. “We have the capacity to meet local demand, and we have sufficient refined products in stock. But to keep prices high, imports are deliberately encouraged,” he said, adding that attempts were being made to push the refinery into exporting products only for them to be re-imported into Nigeria at higher prices. “This refinery is for Nigerians first, and I am not giving up,” he said. Dangote also disclosed that the refinery imports an average of 100 million barrels of crude oil annually from the United States, a figure expected to rise to 200 million barrels following expansion, due to insufficient domestic crude supply. He added that the refinery also sources crude from Ghana and other countries, while exporting jet fuel and gasoline to the United States. He further alleged that domestic refiners are forced to buy Nigerian crude at premiums of up to four dollars per barrel from the trading arms of international oil companies, placing them at a competitive disadvantage. He called on the government to ensure crude oil taxes are assessed based on actual transaction values, warning that the current system allows under-declaration and revenue losses. While calling for an investigation into the activities of the Chief Executive Officer of the NMDPRA, Engr Farouk Ahmed, Dangote accused him of economic sabotage. Dangote also accused the leadership of the NMDPRA of colluding with international traders and oil importers to frustrate local refining through the continued issuance of import licences for petroleum products. Besides, Dangote alleged that Ahmed was living beyond his legitimate means, claiming that four of his children attend secondary schools in Switzerland at costs running into several million dollars.

I received the news of the passing of one of the Afenifere leaders, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, with profound sorrow. Nigeria has lost a political leader whose decades of unwavering struggle for justice, democracy, and national unity have left an indelible mark on our nation's history. According to the family, Baba transitioned peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, at his home in Lekki, Lagos. All who knew Baba Adebanjo drew from his boundless wisdom and cherished the democratic ideals he tirelessly campaigned for. His principled voice, which resonated through decades of political activism, will be deeply missed. As a nation, we will miss his regular interventions in national affairs, which enriched our political discourse. Though we mourn his departure, we are also grateful to God for blessing him with a long, remarkable, purposeful life—96 years of unrelenting advocacy for progress and equity. Baba, as a lawyer, statesman, and politician, stood among the last of a generation of nationalists and independent heroes who shaped the foundation of our country. A devoted disciple of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, his contributions spanned political eras, from his role as Organising Secretary of the Action Group in the First Republic to his leadership in the Unity Party of Nigeria during the Second Republic. In moments of national crisis, Baba's courage shone brightest. When democracy hung in the balance after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, he joined the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) as one of the leading voices against military dictatorship, helping to galvanise a movement that became the bedrock of our collective struggle to reclaim democratic governance. His unwavering commitment to truth and justice extended to my journey as a governorship candidate in 1999. Baba Adebanjo's steadfast support was instrumental in my election as Governor of Lagos State under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy. Though our political paths diverged in later years, my respect and admiration for him never wavered. Until his death, I shared a deep personal bond with Baba Adebanjo; he was like a father figure. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Afenifere family, the governors of the Southwest, past and present, and all Nigerians who shared his vision. Let us take solace in the enduring legacy of a man who dedicated his life to the service of others—a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. May the soul of this great patriot find eternal rest, and may his ideals, which he so passionately envisioned, forever resonate in our country. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President, Federal Republic of Nigeria

President Trump isn’t wasting time returning to a policy of maximum pressure against Iran and its terror proxies. On Wednesday, he issued an executive order to redesignate the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization after his predecessor dropped the designation in 2021. “This order sets in motion a process by which Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis, shall be considered for designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization,” Trump’s executive order reads. “Supported by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force (IRGC-QF), which arms and trains terrorist organizations worldwide, the Houthis have fired at US Navy warships dozens of times since 2023, endangering American men and women in uniform.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio now has 30 days to submit his recommendation, followed by a 15-day window to put the designation into effect. Once implemented, USAID will be required to terminate any projects involving groups that have made payments to the Houthis, criticized efforts to counter them, or failed to document their abuses. As a longtime advocate for the terrorist designation, Rubio is expected to greenlight the measure. At the height of the Gaza war, then-President Biden reissued sanctions after commercial vessels along the Red Sea faced near-weekly Houthi attacks. However, citing humanitarian concerns, he chose a lighter designation compared to Trump’s. “A foreign terrorist organization designation ran the risk of having a deterrent effect on some of those aid groups continuing to provide aid — worrying that they might be charged as providing material support to a terrorist organization,” then-State Department spokesman Matthew Miller explained at the time. The Houthis are already showing signs of buckling under Trump’s renewed pressure. On Wednesday, the crew of the Galaxy Leader was released after being captured in November 2023. In comments to Reuters, Yemeni Vice President Aidarous al-Zubaidi remarked how Trump’s strong leadership will change the landscape in the Middle East. “Trump knows what he wants. He is a strong decision-maker,” Zubaidi said. “We are fans, admirers and supporters of Trump’s policy… because he has a personality that has enough decision-making power to rule America and the world.”

The Dangote Group has dismissed recent claims attributed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, that the company sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the NNPC at N898 per litre. In a press release issued on Sunday evening, the Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, labelled the claim as “misleading and mischievous,” stating that it seeks to undermine the company’s recent milestones in addressing Nigeria’s long-standing energy crisis. The clarification comes after widespread reports that NNPC had purchased fuel from Dangote at N898 per litre. According to Chiejina, the statement is aimed at derailing the progress achieved towards alleviating energy insufficiency and insecurity, which have plagued the country for decades. The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr Olufemi Soneye, that we sell our PMS at N898 per litre to the NNPCL. “This statement is both misleading and mischievous, deliberately aimed at undermining the milestone achievement recorded today, September 15, 2024, towards addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity, which has bedevilled the economy in the past 50 years. “We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement and await a formal announcement on the pricing, by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, which will commence on October 1, 2024, bearing in mind that our current stock of crude was procured in dollars.” Chiejina further clarified that the current stock of crude sold to NNPC was procured in dollars, with significant savings compared to existing import prices. “With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature. “We assure Nigerians of availability of quality petroleum products and putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country,” the statement concluded. Earlier, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) had disclosed that it bought fuel from Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre. The oil firm had moved about 300 trucks to the 650,000 capacity refinery in Lagos, on Saturday, and loading commenced on Sunday. Chief Spokesperson of the NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye had said, “We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today. The claim that we purchased it at N760 per liter is incorrect. For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per liter.” He said over 70 trucks had been loaded.
