At the core of traditional institutions is their ability to preserve culture and values. They serve as custodians of customs, language, and moral systems that guide everyday life. In a rapidly modernizing society, this role helps maintain social cohesion and a sense of belonging among citizens. Without such structures, communities risk losing their identity and moral compass.

Importantly, traditional institutions command deep respect and legitimacy because they are closer to the grassroots. As custodians of culture and traditions, they maintain direct contact with the people, understanding their needs, beliefs, and concerns better than most formal structures. As a result, the general populace often listens to and abides more by their guidance and counsel than that of distant authorities. This unique position gives them strong influence in shaping public behaviour, resolving tensions, and mobilizing communities for collective action.

Traditional leaders equally contribute significantly to conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Due to their closeness to the people and deep understanding of local dynamics, they often intervene in disputes before they escalate. At the same time, safeguarding traditional institutions from excessive political interference is essential to preserving their neutrality and public trust.

Supporting initiatives that promote cultural education among the youth will further strengthen their role as custodians of heritage. By embracing digital platforms and social media, traditional institutions can also reach wider audiences and promote cultural exchange.

It's time for Nigerians to recognize and support the vital role of traditional institutions in shaping our nation's future. Let us work together to harness the strengths of our traditional institutions and build a brighter future for all Nigerians!

The people have every right to question his administration, demand better results, and hold him accountable. However, dissatisfaction with the present administration must never become an excuse to forget the past.

If the table has not yet been fully restored, but the necessary reforms are already underway and the food needed to replenish it is available, does that automatically mean Nigerians should invite those they believe contributed to destroying the table to return and take charge again?

Absolutely not without asking the hard questions!

Nigeria cannot afford to continue moving in circles, recycling the same political figures while ordinary citizens bear the consequences of political decisions. We must not allow the difficulties and sacrifices associated with the ongoing reforms of the present administration to erase our memories of the past or prevent us from critically examining the records of those seeking to return to power.

Nigerians deserve progress, accountability, and a better future—not a political journey back to the same old arguments, familiar faces, and unresolved questions.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, you have been part of Nigeria's political leadership for decades. Nigerians therefore have every right to scrutinise your record, question your promises, and demand a clear explanation of what you would do differently if given another opportunity to lead this country.

The question is simple and direct:

WHY SHOULD NIGERIANS TRUST YOU TO REBUILD A TABLE THAT THEY BELIEVE YOUR PREVIOUS POLITICAL LEADERSHIP HELPED TO DESTROY?

Nigeria belongs to all of us. Its future must be built on accountability, transparency, responsible leadership, and policies that genuinely improve the lives of ordinary citizens. Nigeria’s opposition politicians remind me of people standing around a water tap, desperately trying to fill a basket with water. They wait patiently, hoping that one day the basket will become full. Yet, no matter how long the water flows, the basket will remain empty because it lacks the capacity to retain what is poured into it.

This is the tragedy of political noise without a sustainable structure.

You cannot build a winning political movement on mere press statements, social media campaigns, political rhetoric, and endless criticism of the government. Without unity of purpose, strategic coordination, grassroots mobilization, and a strong presence across the country's polling units, political ambition may remain nothing more than an unfulfilled dream.

Politics is not won by the loudest voices in the room; it is built through organization, sustained engagement, strategic alliances, and the ability to convert public sentiment into measurable political participation.

The reality is that a formidable political structure is not built on the eve of an election, nor can it be improvised through desperation. It requires time, discipline, commitment, and a clearly defined strategy that connects national leadership with the people at the grassroots.

Those who mistake political visibility for political strength may eventually discover that making headlines is not the same as building a movement, and criticizing those in power is not the same as developing the capacity to replace them.

Until Nigeria's opposition understands that political success requires more than noise, their efforts may continue to resemble the futile attempt to fill a basket with water: endless activity, enormous energy, but little lasting substance.

In politics, noise attracts attention, structure builds capacity, organization sustains momentum, and effective grassroots mobilization gives political ambition a practical foundation.

The question is not how loudly the opposition can speak, but how effectively it can organize, mobilize, and sustain its presence across the country.

The eyes of desperate political interests are firmly fixed on Nigeria's national resources, including the nation's foreign exchange reserves. In their desperate quest for political power, there is a growing concern that some political actors may resort to exploiting ethnic and religious sentiments, deepening divisions among Nigerians, and manipulating public opinion to achieve their ambitions.

But let one thing be clear: Nigeria belongs to all of us, and no politician's ambition is worth sacrificing our national unity!

I want Nigerians, regardless of tribe, religion, region, or political affiliation, to pay close attention to certain fundamental questions surrounding Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's political ambition and his approach to the 2027 presidential election.

FIRST: WHAT LEGACY IS ATIKU ABUBAKAR PRESENTING TO NIGERIANS?

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar served as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. Yet, in my view, his current campaign must do more than dwell on criticisms of the present administration. Nigerians deserve a clear, detailed, and verifiable account of what he achieved while in office and how those achievements would translate into better governance today.

If he believes he has the experience and capacity to lead Nigeria again, let him present his record, defend his legacy, and explain precisely what he intends to do differently.

Nigeria's presidency is not a retirement benefit for former officeholders. It is a sacred responsibility that must be earned through credible leadership, demonstrable competence, and a convincing vision for the future.

SECOND: CRITICISM IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENDA!

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has every democratic right to criticise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. That is the essence of democracy. However, Nigerians also have the right to demand more than criticism.

Where is the comprehensive alternative?

How would he address inflation, unemployment, insecurity, poverty, exchange-rate instability, and the economic hardship confronting millions of Nigerians?

What practical measures would he introduce to strengthen the economy, protect public resources, and improve the living conditions of ordinary citizens?

A serious presidential aspirant must not merely identify the weaknesses of an incumbent. He must demonstrate that he possesses better solutions.

The Nigerian people deserve policies, not just political attacks; answers, not just accusations; and a credible vision, not merely an ambition to return to power.

THIRD: NIGERIA IS TOO BIG FOR VILLAGE-STYLE POLITICAL CAMPAIGNING!

In my assessment, one of the greatest weaknesses of Atiku Abubakar's political approach is the need to convince Nigerians beyond his established political circles. A presidential campaign should be prepared to withstand rigorous questioning, public scrutiny, and honest debate.

No serious presidential aspirant should assume that political loyalty is a substitute for competence or that a familiar political audience represents the entire Nigerian electorate.

The presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not a village chieftaincy contest. It requires the ability to engage Nigerians from every region, defend one's record before informed citizens, and answer difficult questions without evasion.

If Atiku believes he deserves another opportunity to lead this country, let him step forward with a clear agenda, submit his record to public examination, and convince Nigerians through evidence and sound policy proposals.

Leadership is not established by the size of one's political entourage, the loudness of one's supporters, or the frequency of one's attacks against opponents. Leadership is demonstrated by competence, integrity, accountability, and the ability to offer practical solutions to national challenges.

FOURTH: WHY SHOULD NIGERIANS ENTRUST NATIONAL LEADERSHIP TO ATIKU AGAIN?

This is a legitimate question that every Nigerian has the right to ask.

After decades of political participation and years of occupying one of the highest offices in the land, what new ideas, fresh commitments, and verifiable solutions is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar bringing to the table?

What lessons has he learnt from his years in public service?

How will his proposed administration be different from previous administrations?

What safeguards would he introduce to ensure transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public funds?

These are not questions of hatred. They are questions of democratic responsibility.

Nobody should be above scrutiny simply because of political connections, personal wealth, regional affiliation, or presidential ambition.

Nigeria's treasury is not the private property of any politician, political party, or political family. Public office is a trust, and every aspirant must be prepared to justify why that trust should be placed in their hands.

FIFTH: NIGERIANS MUST REJECT THE POLITICS OF ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS DIVISION!

This is where I draw the line.

No political ambition should be allowed to threaten the peace, unity, and coexistence of our people. No politician should exploit the differences among Nigerians to gain an electoral advantage.

Whether such divisive tactics come from the opposition or the ruling party, they deserve to be rejected.

Nigeria is home to people of different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, languages, and cultural traditions. These differences are not our weakness. They are part of our national identity.

The future of this country must never be determined by those who believe that setting one Nigerian against another is the easiest route to political power.

I firmly believe that millions of Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones understand the importance of national unity and will not willingly surrender their future to ethnic hatred, religious hostility, or political manipulation.

To those who believe that dividing Nigerians will deliver the presidency to them, I have a clear message: YOU UNDERESTIMATE THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE!

The fire of ethnic and religious hatred does not discriminate between those who ignite it and those who become its victims. Once allowed to spread, it can consume the very interests that initially sought to exploit it.

That is why responsible political leaders must choose the path of peace, patriotism, and national cohesion.

MY FINAL MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS AHEAD OF 2027

Let us ask every presidential aspirant the hard questions.

Let us examine their records, scrutinise their promises, challenge their policies, and demand evidence to support their claims.

Let us refuse to be manipulated by political propaganda, ethnic sentiments, religious prejudice, or personality worship.

Let us remember that Nigeria is bigger than Atiku Abubakar, bigger than Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and bigger than every political party or individual seeking to occupy Aso Rock.

No politician owns Nigeria. No region has a monopoly on patriotism. No religion grants anyone an exclusive right to govern this country.

As we approach 2027, my position remains firm: Nigeria needs leadership that can unite its people, protect public resources, confront national challenges, and deliver measurable progress. Any aspirant seeking the highest office in the land must be prepared to prove that he or she is worthy of that responsibility.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar must be judged by his record, his policies, his answers to legitimate questions, and the credibility of his vision for Nigeria—not merely by his criticisms of President Tinubu.

And the same standard must apply to every other presidential aspirant, including the incumbent.

Our loyalty must ultimately be to Nigeria and the welfare of its people.

In a relatively short period, the administration has recorded notable milestones.

The unification of the foreign exchange market has reduced arbitrage and improved transparency. Efforts to boost revenue generation have significantly increased government earnings. The removal of fuel subsidy, though initially challenging, has freed up critical resources for national development, enabling greater allocation to infrastructure, education, agriculture, and healthcare.

Serving as Chief Launcher, the IGP described the publication as an important contribution to preserving the institutional history of the Nigeria Police Force and celebrating the courage, resilience and service of the pioneer women officers who opened the profession to generations of women. He noted that Dame Okuyiga, one of the first 20 women to join the Force in 1955, represents a generation whose dedication helped expand the role of women in policing.

The IGP stressed the importance of a Police Force that reflects and understands the diverse communities it serves, noting that women have continued to distinguish themselves across criminal investigation, intelligence, tactical operations, specialist policing and strategic leadership. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to merit-based advancement and equal professional opportunities, while preserving the legacy of pioneer officers to guide and inspire future generations.

Paying tribute to the author, the IGP recalled his earlier engagement with Dame Okuyiga while serving as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, when she expressed her desire to update and formally present the publication. He commended her for preserving the experiences and contributions of the pioneer generation of Policewomen and encouraged serving and retired officers, institutions and members of the public to support the publication and promote its availability in Police formations, training institutions and libraries.

Responding, Dame Okuyiga expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force for the support accorded her in bringing the publication to fruition. She noted that the preservation of the book in Police libraries and training institutions would ensure that the experiences and sacrifices of the pioneer women officers remain accessible to generations of personnel, expressing fulfilment that her story and legacy would endure beyond her lifetime and continue to contribute to the institutional history of the Force.

APC CAMPAIGN SPOKESPERSONS WILL NOT TRAVEL ATIKU'S ROUTE IN DISRESPECT OF PROTOCOL




We have followed the furore and public reactions to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's self-imposed indiscretion and disrespect for the office of the President of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief, the Presidential candidate of the ADC.

While a higher standard of decorum, decency and deference to constituted authorities is expected from a former Vice President of Nigeria and an aspirant to the highest office in the country, we are concerned that the ADC Presidential candidate has not lived up to those expectations by his unbecoming decision to address the President of Nigeria on a first-name basis as 'Bola'.

Since Alhaji Atiku lost the last Presidential election, he has allowed political animosity and uncontrollable ambition to rob him of the statesmanship that should guide his public conduct and utterances.

Alhaji Atiku, for reasons best known to him alone, chose, rather than being a good example of decency in political behaviour, to set himself up as a model of politician the younger generation of political actors should never aspire to be like.

Without any regard to his personal choice to disrespect the office he is aspiring to occupy, the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has implored all party leaders, spokespersons, party members and support groups to accord all the respect, courtesies and regard due to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as former Vice President of Nigeria and a Presidential candidate.

As a party grounded in progressive ideals and African traditional values of respect, our campaign council will not follow Alhaji Atiku's path.

Our campaign will focus on issues important to Nigerians. We will sell our party programmes, President Bola Tinubu's achievements in office, and how the administration is moving Nigeria from reforms to prosperity as the President seeks a second-term mandate from Nigerians.

The International Day of the Girl Child, observed globally on October 11th, is a United Nations-declared day dedicated to amplifying the voices of girls, promoting their rights, and addressing the unique challenges they face across the globe.

In a goodwill message, the protégés stated that Malam Musa Umar Yashi, FCAI, remains a shining example of compassion-driven leadership and inclusive governance. They noted that his humanitarian interventions at the North-East Development Commission have continued to prioritize the most vulnerable, particularly women, girls, and children affected by insurgency and displacement in the North-East.

The Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL are strengthening cooperation to track and disrupt criminals and fugitives operating across national borders.

The renewed partnership was discussed in Lyon, France, where the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, met with INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza and senior officials of the organisation.

The discussions focused on intelligence sharing, access to INTERPOL databases, fugitive tracking and stronger coordination in the fight against cybercrime, terrorism, financial crime, corruption and organised transnational crime.

The Nigerian delegation also received briefings on key initiatives supporting policing cooperation in West Africa, including WAPIS and GEMINI.

Today, as Alhaji Salihu Garba Dumswak, PhD, bows out of active service upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years, we celebrate not merely the conclusion of a professional career, but the enduring legacy of a man whose character and conduct command profound respect.

Born from humble beginnings in Dengi, Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, he rose through dedication, perseverance and hard work to the pinnacle of his career in the Federal Civil Service, and in particular at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Throughout his years of service, Dr. Salihu Garba Dumswak exemplified dedication, honesty, humility and high professionalism. He is a distinguished patriot, a brilliant and core civil servant, a mentor to many and a role model to everyone, whose value extends far beyond his official designation.

His service as Assistant Director and Immediate Past Head of the Corporate Affairs/Protocol & Servicom Unit at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Liaison Office, FCT Abuja, stands as an important chapter in a career defined by responsibility, expertise and excellence. To serve diligently is commendable; to serve with honesty, humility and professionalism is an even greater achievement.

The befitting Valedictory Session organized in his honour by the NDDC Liaison Office, FCT Abuja, on Friday, 9th October, 2026, at the prestigious Immaculate Hotel, Abuja, under the esteemed Mother of Substance, is a clear testimony to the high esteem in which he is held. It was a well-deserved recognition of a career marked by selfless service and uncommon commitment.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned at the opening of a cabinet meeting that Hamas would try to use its remaining strength to challenge Israel and influence the upcoming elections, pledging an overwhelming response.

“We are prepared for this. First and foremost, we will thwart such attempts, and in any event, we will respond with tremendous force if they make that mistake,” Netanyahu said.

Speaking on the eve of the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre, Netanyahu mourned those murdered and the soldiers killed in the war. He said Israel had eliminated 4,000 of the 6,000 terrorists who participated in the attack, vowing to pursue the rest and end Hamas rule in Gaza. Defense Minister Israel Katz publicly cited the same figures on October 5.

“None of them has immunity. We will reach every last one of them, and Hamas rule in Gaza will be eradicated,” Netanyahu said.

The prime minister also said 90% of residents had returned to their homes in the Gaza border region, with new families arriving amid extensive reconstruction. He described the rebuilding as “a victory of the spirit over evil, a victory of Israel over its enemies,” and said a similar recovery was taking place in the north.

“I say to all our enemies: Look at what we did to you on seven fronts,” Netanyahu concluded. “Don’t mess with us.”

HEALING AND DELIVERANCE MINISTRY

God called me into the ministry through a dream in 1999, after I had my twin and last children. He gave me Mark 16:17-18 KJV, which I heard paraphrased this way: “These signs shall follow you because you believe; In my name, you shall cast out demons; you shall speak with new tongues; [18] You shall take up serpents; and if you drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt you; you shall lay hands on the sick, and you shall recover”.


Since then, the signs have not ceased to follow me. I have been poisoned but survived; attackers have tried to harm me but failed. I have laid hands on the sick, and they have been healed; even barren women have had babies. God has been faithful to his calling on my life. The enemy has threatened my life, marriage, and family. Twice, I almost lost my husband, but I laid my hands on him, and he recovered. My children and I have been in accidents, but God has delivered us without a scratch. My spirit cannot stop singing praises to God. He is an awesome God and, indeed, a miracle worker. Knowing the Lord and having a personal relationship with him is joyful. I am so blessed because it is a privilege.

CHARGE TO THOSE IN AUTHORITY

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT: Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

The essence of a Queen’s or leader's existence is to obey God and enhance humanity.

• Every platform one is given in life has a purpose. The role of a queen or leader is to benefit others. So, touch lives by giving and championing the truth, even in difficulty, and God will show up for you. For the truth shall always set us free - John 8:32
• Be willing to learn and develop yourself
• Use your God-given opportunities, resources, and establishments to better your community, advance the people's progress, and add value to lives with great respect.
• God’s assignment requires preparation, so gain the knowledge needed for the purpose you were created for; an enlightened leader will produce an enlightened community.
• Be committed to your words through actions; delay may occur, but never denial.
• Be a good listener, give both sides of a story equal opportunity, and encourage honesty.
• Do what is lawful, act with integrity, put God’s laws first, trust in God for positive outcomes, and be sincere in your relationships with people.
• Be strong, hard-working, courageous, and responsible in every action, standing up under pressure - Joshua 1:8
• Make obstacles your stepping stones to greatness; never be afraid to overcome them and never stop trying.
• Always remind yourself of the maxim that where there is no pain, there is no gain.
• Be ready to be addressed the way you dress.

As a leader, one must:

• Acknowledge God as your sole helper and trust him
• Reach out to the people in your constituency
• Promote peace, unity, and harmony within your respective constituency.
• Learn and practice mediation to foster peaceful coexistence.
• Equip yourself with the mental, moral, and social capacity to drive positive attitudinal changes among the people in your constituency.
• Make provisions for youth education, protection, development, and empowerment.
• Develop the ability to attract social and welfare packages for the underprivileged – Proverbs 19:17.
• Be productive and encourage productivity among the human folk by improving your knowledge of entrepreneurial skills, among others.

CONCLUSION

My success in leadership and life is entirely based on my salvation and God’s calling—his grace, opportunities, and openings. The challenges I faced taught me valuable lessons, and God’s grace was sufficient to give me victory because he is ever faithful. His words in Joshua 1:9 NLT say, “Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

To reign successfully as an earthly queen or leader, one must not bow to any other God or power but Christ. One can be powerful and wealthy without being corrupt, as God is the author of power and wealth – Philippians 4:19, Deuteronomy 8:18. Trust in God, because he will never leave you if you don’t leave him, for his mercies are from everlasting to everlasting to those who fear him – Psalm 103:17.

To enjoy leadership and to thwart the enemy’s plans to rob you of eternity, you must trust in God by asking Jesus to come into your life and forgive you, because we have all come up short of his glory – Romans 3:23 NLT – “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Afterward, build a deep relationship with God by spending time with him, reading and meditating on his word (the Bible), worshiping him, and living a life of thanksgiving. As he was with Joseph, so he is with me, Josephine; that’s how he will be with you all the days of your reign and life, and you will lack nothing. Shalom!

*2027: APC PCC Women Mobilisation Holds National Summit, Targets 40m Votes for Tinubu-Shettima Re-election*


All is set for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Women Stakeholders’ Summit scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2026, in Abuja.

The summit, to be convened by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to bring together key women stakeholders from across the country as the APC prepares for the formal commencement of its 2027 presidential campaign activities.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday ahead of the event, the Director of the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, said APC women were intensifying grassroots mobilisation with a target of 40 million women votes for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

Edu described the summit as an important platform for strengthening the women’s mobilisation structure nationwide and commended the First Lady for convening the meeting.

According to her, the summit will also provide an opportunity to empower hundreds of women and further strengthen grassroots structures.

“When we put our strength together and unite behind our President and his wife, victory is certain,” she said.

Edu also commended state governors and their wives for supporting the participation of women stakeholders at the summit, noting that many delegates had already arrived in Abuja.

She stressed, however, that the Abuja summit was taking place alongside ongoing grassroots mobilisation across the country.

“Most of the delegates from the states have already arrived in Abuja, and more are expected. But our community engagements and door-to-door mobilisation have continued across the country,” she said.

Edu said the directorate’s grassroots strategy remained focused on sustaining engagement with women and households across communities, with the mobilisation structure covering 176,846 communities nationwide.

“It is a 100-day sprint, and we will not relent until victory is achieved for President Tinubu. Our strength is in our numbers,” she said.

A DISTINGUISHED EXIT: Construction Division Celebrates Engr. Bello Kabir as He Retires from FCT Civil Service After 34 Years of Meritorious Service



A Seasoned Civil and Structural Engineer, Fountain of Knowledge, Mentor, Role Model and Distinguished Patriot Exits Active Service After More Than Three Decades of Dedicated Service

It was a day filled with deep emotions, heartfelt tributes, fond memories and profound appreciation as staff of the Construction Division, Department of Public Building, which organized the valedictory session at the Director's Conference Room, alongside staff from other divisions within the Department, other departments of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, and the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, joined colleagues, professional associates, friends and well-wishers to honour a distinguished son of the FCT Civil Service, Engr. Bello Kabir, on the occasion of his retirement from active service upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

The valedictory ceremony was not merely a farewell. It was a celebration of a remarkable career, a distinguished professional journey and an enduring legacy built over more than three decades of service to the Federal Capital Territory and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Having joined the FCT Civil Service on 17th January 1992, Engr. Bello Kabir devoted a substantial part of his productive years to the development of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. His story gives truth to the saying that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step. What started as a single step on that January day has become a remarkable journey of more than three decades, marked by growth, versatility and impact. As a seasoned Civil and Structural Engineer, and a truly versatile professional who is adept in many areas of the built environment, he distinguished himself through professionalism, technical competence, diligence and an unwavering commitment to duty.

Throughout his career, he participated in the delivery and supervision of multiple complex and high-value projects, bringing to bear his wealth of technical knowledge, experience, expertise and meticulous attention to detail. His ability to handle demanding assignments with precision and distinction earned him the respect of colleagues and professionals across the construction and built environment sectors. He was a man who believed that any work worth doing was worth doing well.

Beyond his technical accomplishments, however, Engr. Bello Kabir will be remembered even more profoundly for the person he is. He is calm, brilliant, humble, approachable and principled, yet uncompromising whenever professional standards, quality of work and the interest of the organisation were at stake.

He was a fountain of knowledge, a mentor to many and a role model to countless professionals and staff who had the rare privilege of working with him. His office and professional interactions became, for many, an informal school where experience was generously shared, mistakes were corrected with patience, standards were upheld and younger professionals were encouraged to grow.

The depth of his impact became particularly evident during the valedictory ceremony, as staff from various divisions and departments gathered to celebrate a quintessential colleague whose contribution to the Construction Division, the Department of Public Building, the FCDA and the wider built environment will remain deeply appreciated and fondly remembered.

The atmosphere was understandably emotional. For many colleagues, the occasion represented the difficult moment of saying farewell to a rare professional whose presence, counsel and institutional memory had become an invaluable part of the Department. Tears and emotions flowed freely as colleagues reflected on the years of working alongside him and the vacuum his retirement will inevitably create.

The occasion was graced by the presence of the Acting Director, Department of Public Building, who represented the Director, alongside Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, Heads of Administration and Human Resources, senior members of staff, professional colleagues and other distinguished personnel who came together to honour the retiring engineer.

In an atmosphere of warmth and appreciation, encomiums were showered on the celebrant. His colleagues and associates spoke glowingly of his professionalism, integrity, humility, technical depth, discipline and remarkable contribution to the development of the Federal Capital Territory.

The celebration also featured memorable moments, including the presentation of priceless gifts, the filling of the citation register, entertainment and refreshments, and the ceremonial cutting of the retirement cake. Each moment added another beautiful chapter to an occasion that many will remember for years to come.

Indeed, the gathering demonstrated a timeless principle, honour is given to whom honour is due.

In his emotional valedictory address, Engr. Bello Kabir expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for bringing him safely to such an important milestone. He appreciated the management of the FCDA, his directors, supervisors, colleagues and everyone who contributed to his successful career.

He also extended an apology to anyone he may have offended knowingly or unknowingly in the course of his duties and equally offered forgiveness to those who may have offended him. His message reflected the humility, maturity and sense of humanity that have characterised his professional journey.

While bidding farewell to active service, he made it clear that retirement should not be viewed as an end, but as the beginning of another chapter. He leaves the Civil Service with gratitude, satisfaction in having served his country and a wealth of experiences and memories accumulated over more than three decades.

His words to those remaining in service were equally instructive, to continue serving with integrity, professionalism, humility and commitment, remembering that positions are temporary, while the impact made on people and the legacy left behind can endure for generations.

His remarkable journey can aptly be captured in his own reflective words:

I came into the service with hope, I served with commitment, and I leave with gratitude.

Those words perhaps best summarise the career of a man whose professional journey has been defined by dedication, service and responsibility.

As Engr. Bello Kabir formally exits the FCT Civil Service, his departure marks not simply the retirement of an employee, but the conclusion of an important chapter in the professional history of the Construction Division and the Department of Public Building.

The built environment has gained from his knowledge. The Civil Service has benefited from his years of commitment. His colleagues have benefited from his mentorship. And the many professionals who crossed his path carry with them lessons, memories and experiences that will continue to live on.

As he proceeds into this new chapter of life, may Almighty Allah reward his years of service, grant him sound health, peace, fulfilment and abundant blessings, and grant him and his family many more fruitful and rewarding years ahead.

OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS AND CORRUPTION

Temptations and Corruption are the bane of authority. In leadership, one is enticed in many ways to lose focus. Power corrupts, but those without the fear of God and who are greedy fall prey.

According to Enrich Fromm, “greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction,” and to Lao-tzu, “there is no calamity greater than lavish desires, there is no greater guilt than discontentment, and there is no greater disaster than greed.” Also, the Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:9 AMP: But those who [are not financially ethical and] crave to get rich [with a compulsive, greedy longing for wealth], fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction [leading to personal misery].

As a queen, I encountered temptations and corruption. My saving grace is that I was born again before I became queen, was grounded in the word of God, and feared God. These put me on a pedestal of victory over these evils. Most times, it was overwhelming. The enemy never gives up, and we should not be ignorant of his plans to pull us down and entice us to disobey God. When the enemy cannot get us to compromise, they attack us, our marriage, children, and even businesses. These attacks come in different forms, but I thank God for the gift of the holy spirit, who is always there as our helper and supports us when we are weak. The key is to fear God and obey his commands; he will take care of us. God always comes through as he did for me.

Suitably, Romans 8:31 AMP says, “What then shall we say to all these things?
If God is for us, who can be [successful] against us?”

In our relationship with God and His word, we should learn obedience and that wealth comes from above, so we should not be prepared to lose eternity for what man can give us because, with God, we lack nothing. Most importantly, God is with us, and they can do us nothing. Accordingly, 1 John 4:4 NLT says: “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world”.

SPIRITUAL ENCOUNTERS

I worked in a dangerous terrain. As an evangelist called by God in 1999, I was born again and spirit-filled in 1979 while still in secondary school. I had to deal with forces of darkness as a queen. I was constantly in battle, but those were not insurmountable, and the Lord asked me to fast every Thursday and pray every midnight, an assignment I still obey.

In my sojourn as Queen, I had many encounters with the Lord and the enemy, sometimes using people, but thanks be to God, I am still here. It was a constant battle to take me out of the Kingdom and my marriage. They told me I wouldn't last a year in my marriage, but it's been 32 years. It is great to be a Christian and a servant of God because God is faithful and will protect His own. I learned to see the end of every matter before it happened. I learned to trust God and exercise my Faith, without which God cannot be pleased, and God has shown me great mercies and love that I still cannot comprehend the depth of this love for me.

The Rats Experience
A few months after my marriage, we started having strange occurrences. Firstly, it was with Rats. These rats fell from the ceiling over our bed, despite no holes in the ceiling, in the middle of the night while we slept. They would wake us up, and we would start chasing them, trying to kill them to the extent that my King and I had to sleep with wooden clubs to chase after them. While praying and worshiping God a couple of days later, I commanded all the rats to die in Jesus’ Name. That night, the rats didn’t show up; the following day, we both offered a thanksgiving service to God for the deliverance. A few days later, the rats began to smell, and we discovered that they were scattered in hidden places in our bedroom, but dead. I swept them out, and that was the end of that occurrence.

The Monkey Experience
There were other encounters, but for space, I will focus on the monkey issue that happened a few years into my marriage. A few months after my twin babies were born, we had an experience that kept us stunned. My husband and my three babies became very ill. We visited the doctor, who ran several tests but could not determine the cause. The pediatrician in charge of the children disappeared, and we could not reach her. The matter was even more bewildering when my daughter, the first of the twins, kept screaming at night because she saw strange objects on everyone. I had to wear plain white clothes so she would allow me to carry her.

I then declared a time of prayer and fasting to get God’s attention on my predicament. I prayed and worshiped that night, and the Lord opened my eyes in the morning. I saw a monkey through the curtain on my bedroom window holding on to the protector (metal protective work) reins of my bedroom balcony, right in the middle of a serene Government Reserved Area in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. I opened the door to the balcony, and lo and behold, there was a full-grown black-haired monkey. I quickly closed the door and called my cook and stewards to ascertain how the monkey got there. The steward had no clue, but the cook said he had seen the monkey for a while and kept forgetting to mention it.

I lived in a semi-detached house, so you had to look up from the gate to see the balcony to my bedroom, and because we always drove into the compound, we never noticed it. So, I decided to wait until my husband got home to know what to do. But I had the urge to pray, so I said that since we do not need a monkey as a tenant, I commanded the monkey to fall and die in Jesus' Name, and the monkey fell; at that time, I thought it jumped. When my King returned, and I told him of the incident, he decided we should look at it together, but when we opened the door, we found the monkey on the ground, dead!

Later that night, when I checked on my kids in their room to bring down their fever with a cloth and room-temperature water, as was now routine, they were fine and the fever was gone. My husband also woke up without a fever. We then went to the hospital to see the doctor, who declared everyone healthy. That was how God delivered my family from an unknown ailment, and my daughter stopped her strange behavior. To God be all the glory, as we never forget to give him thanks.

There were other strange occurrences in the dreams and in my kingdom, but time and space will fail me to give it all. Thankfully, we were delivered from them all because God is with us.

Omekwe Tari-Ama Council of Chiefs Disowns Purported Installation of Gilles Clark Georgewill as Amayanabo

The Council of Chiefs of Omekwe Tari-Ama Community in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State has disowned and nullified the purported installation of Mr. Gilles Clark Georgewill as the Amayanabo of Omekwe Tari-Ama.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Council after an emergency meeting held on 25th September, 2026, and signed by the Regent and Chairman of Council, His Highness Chief Hon. Dabotubo Ngoji Saturday Horsfall and the Secretary, Alabo Sir (Hon.) Ibiyemiebaro Oruye.

According to the Council, by Kalabari custom, every community is led and managed by a Council of Chiefs headed by either a King or a Regent, a sacred tradition which Omekwe Tari-Ama has continued to uphold.

The Council alleged that a few disgruntled members and non-members of the community have been acting in violation of Kalabari custom and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in a manner capable of disturbing public peace and inciting violence.

The Council therefore informed the public of its earlier resolutions:

First, that on 23rd October, 2024, the Council suspended and dismissed its former Regent, Chief Forsbrey Cotterell, over allegations and evidence of criminal conduct bordering on vandalization, stealing and unlawful sale of government and community property, and alleged unlawful withholding of funds due to the Council. The Council stated that Chief Cotterell confessed to the allegations and is currently under investigation and will soon be charged. The suspension was done in the presence of seven chiefs.

The Council further alleged that Chief Cotterell committed the acts in partnership with Mr. Ajumoniabereba Williams Wwokocha, Mr. TamunobilaAmakiri Wokoma, Mr. Atombosoba John Elekima, Pst. Jenbarimiema Saturday Horsfall and Ms. Jiba Raymond Cotterell. The matter, it said, has been reported to the Buguma Police Division, Abalama Police Division, the Local Government Area Council and the Asari-Toru Council of Traditional Rulers.

Second, that the Council also suspended some Chiefs for conduct unbecoming of Chiefs, in the hope that they would make amends and return to their sacred duties, but that they instead formed a cohort with the suspended former Regent to cause mischief and disharmony.

Third, that the same suspended individuals recently proceeded to the community to purport to coronate a so-called King of Omekwe Tari-Ama without proper authority, out of ignorance and malice and with intent to achieve a sinister outcome.

The Council stated unequivocally that Chief Forsbrey Cotterell remains a former Regent under investigation for alleged actions against the community, its people and government, and will be brought to account in accordance with the law.

It added that Chief Benibo Amieyeofori, Mr. Basoene, formerly Chief Kala-Dokubo, and Chief Forsbrey Cotterell are not members of the Council of Chiefs, having been duly suspended indefinitely or unseated, and therefore a few suspended Chiefs working with a suspended former Regent have no authority to install a King in any community.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Council clarified that Omekwe Tari-Ama (OTA) is currently led by a Council comprising:

1. His Highness Chief Hon. Dabotubo Saturday Ngoji-Horsfall, Regent and Chairman of Council
2. Alabo Rt. Hon. Paworiso B.J. Samuel-Horsfall
3. Alabo Sir (Hon.) Ibiyemiebaro Oruye
4. Alabo Dr. Ibiolila Starr B.J. Samuel-Horsfall
5. Alabo Oduye John Bruse Atiegoba
6. Alabo Soibibo Okiri Osuwigwe

In conclusion, the Council said the press release was issued to enlighten the public on the true situation in the community, address the unfortunate events caused by a few miscreants and affirm that progress is underway, with both foreign and domestic investment opportunities being pursued for the development of OTA and the enrichment of the lives of its people in concert with government agencies, including the LGA Council, state and federal ministries and private entities.

JIGAWA FIRST LADY HADIZA UMAR NAMADI BACKS PEACE RALLY AS MARYAM SHARIF MUKHTAR MOBILIZES WOMEN AND YOUTH FOR 2026 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

Following the remarkable global commemoration of the 2026 International Day of Peace under the theme “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” women and youth across Jigawa State came alive in an impressive display of unity, solidarity and commitment to peace during a special rally held in Dutse, the state capital.

The well-attended rally was ably led by Peace Ambassador Hajiya Maryam Sharif Mukhtar, Global Advocate of Peace and Jigawa State Cluster Coordinator, who mobilized women and youth from diverse backgrounds in a powerful demonstration of their shared resolve for a peaceful society.

Adorned in customized peace flags, caps, shirts, Hijabs and Niqabs, and proudly displaying peace banners and placards with inscriptions on unity and tolerance, the participants demonstrated that peace is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of everyone, everywhere, every day.

The impressive turnout and enthusiasm on display also reflect the growing consciousness and commitment of women and youth in Jigawa State towards promoting peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, mutual understanding and social harmony across communities.

The rally further highlighted the critical role of women and young people as frontline ambassadors of peace, whose voices and actions are indispensable in countering violence, promoting dialogue, and building a more inclusive and resilient society.

Present at the rally to lend support and solidarity were Honourable Zainab Ahmad Birnin Kudu, Special Assistant to Her Excellency and Jigawa State Coordinator, Peace Ambassadors, and Hajiya Zainab Muhammad Pawa, State Patron of Peace Ambassadors, alongside other key stakeholders and advocates of peace in the state.

Special appreciation and profound gratitude go to Her Excellency, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, First Lady of Jigawa State and Mother of Peace, for her invaluable support, motherly encouragement, and sustained contributions towards initiatives that promote peace and strengthen the meaningful participation of women and young people in peacebuilding and development.

Together, their presence and commitment reaffirm Jigawa State's resolve to invest in peace for everyone, everywhere, every day.

HER MAJESTY’S SERVICE

I ascended the throne as Queen of Twon Brass Kingdom in Bayelsa State in
1994, when I married my husband, the Amanyanabo (King) of Twon Brass Kingdom, His Eminence, King Alfred Papapereye Diete-Spiff, Officer and Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR, CFR).

A Queen is a mother to all within her traditional domain; as a mother, she reflects the conscience of her domain and is an agent of positive change. We, as queens, deserve the opportunity to contribute our share to societal development, starting from our domain, but the patriarchal nature of most African traditions, which places women as second-class citizens, often does not give queens the full opportunity to play this role.

Thankfully, my King supported me in all my developmental efforts, even though some people opposed my desire to do good for the citizenry. However, that did not stop me, as I constantly reflected on the sayings of Theodore Roosevelt, a former American President, who, in emphasizing the importance of mothers to societal development, said,
''The mother is one supreme asset of national life; she is more important by far than a successful statesman or businessman or artist or scientist”. I decided to be the mother God bestowed on me.

I have been a spiritual guide and a development initiator, especially for the women, youth, and children of Twon Brass Kingdom, helping the king build a more progressive community.

My first visit to the kingdom, when I was officially recognized, was in 1998. There, I organized a prayer meeting for the women and established a revolving loan system to support their trade, leveraging my role as the Chief Executive Officer of Titare Microfinance Bank, Port Harcourt. At that time, I created the women’s executive council, and a woman leader emerged to manage the association, which rotates between the houses (the kingdom operates as a conglomerate of families) every two years. The youth executive and leadership already existed but were operated solely by the men.

As the Queen, I built relationships with the people, especially women and youth, by providing support, entertainment, seminars on peaceful coexistence, anti-vice initiatives, and Christian activities. The Elders and Chiefs, however, approached me with issues that bothered the Kingdom and required the King's attention.

I started my foundation to support the kingdom's widows, people with disabilities, and older adults, and in 2009 expanded its reach to the rest of Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States. Development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, so I have been advocating for actions that promote peace in the kingdom. These include youth and women's empowerment, children’s education, and peaceful dialogues where necessary.

As custodian of the people, I was always at hand to assist whenever needed. By the grace of God, I contributed in no small measure to the peace and stability of the kingdom. I started a trade for older women and established a means of sustenance within the women’s council. We held Christian meetings, prayer conferences, and games, and I created opportunities for the Kingdom’s prayer, redirection, repentance, and thanksgiving service. In all this, God was with me, initiating and protecting me and my every move.

With support from Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC), a major company operating in my domain, a cold room was built for women to enhance their economic activities and in partnership with my private school, Titare Star Royal Academy (formerly Bereton College), 20 children received scholarships to complete secondary education as boarding students in the Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt. At one time, I had 40 youths on my payroll to foster peace in the community. I supported these youths for two months from my meager earnings until I could secure support from NAOC.

Those who excelled in entertainment games from my Kingdom, including six merit-selected children, less-privileged children, foundation members’ children, and children of Pastors, were offered free education, transportation, boarding, and medical care at my school.

I also helped many young people from my domain secure jobs. As a former Managing Director of a microfinance bank, I empowered women and young people to learn a trade. I worked with the Deputy Amanyanabo (Deputy King) for several years to maintain peace and order in the community. Because of my activities in the Kingdom, the king honored me with the title Twon Ibe Opuyingibo (the Great Mother of Twon Brass Nation).

In 2012, I became the chairperson of the Bayelsa State First Class Traditional Rulers’ Association after my king assumed office as the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers’ Council Chairman. I led the women’s wing. As Chairperson, I galvanized the queens to focus on development. I created a slogan and an anthem for the organization, instituted a constitution, and registered it with the state as a social and developmental organization.

I expanded the organization beyond first-class to include other classifications, giving every Royal home in the State recognition within the organization. I instituted a financial system and a dress code befitting Royalty and held seminars and conferences that taught the Queens ethical behavior, trade, self-esteem, self-reliance, public conduct, harnessing peaceful domains, and how to help advance their domains by supporting women's and children's development.

Our activities earned the organization government recognition, gave widowed queens a place of pride by retaining their recognition, supported Queens who needed legal, financial, and social help, and gave disadvantaged children from their domains free scholarships to study at my school.

I went further and instituted the Niger Delta Royal Queens Initiative, which I am currently the pioneer President of, to achieve broader developmental impact. I also support widows and the physically challenged through my foundation and office. I served as President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN). I currently head several organizations and have built positive legacies in society, for which I have received honors nationwide.
