Information acquired from official papers over the weekend indicates that since the start of the year, the flow of short-term loans from deposit money banks (DMBs) to their regulator has increased in an unexpected way. Poet Laureate, Prof. Niyi Osundare’s latest intervention best captures the mood of the moment. Aptly touted “Incompetence weds Corruption”, the first and the last statements fascinate me most. The first says: “Pepeiye nigba ti oo m’owe/Ki lo be lu’odo se?” Translated, it is a pointed question to the Duck, wondering why, when it knew it could not swim, it still jumped into the river. The Duck here is the president, retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and the river is Nigeria and its state of affairs. Ordinarily, ducks are master swimmers, water is their familiar terrain. In like manner everyone had expected that Buhari, a two-star Army general and former Commander-in-Chief, knew his onions when he boasted he would end Boko Haram insurgency in a matter of a few months. A man who contested serially but lost; who wept at his last attempt and refused to be comforted must have thought he had something to offer, which he lamented Nigerians were being denied. Alas! Today we all know better!... https://www.thenews-chronicle.com/like-solomons-son-rehoboam-like-muhammadu-buhari/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost follow us on Facebook for more https://web.facebook.com/tncng Follow us on twitter https://twitter.com/ThenewsC

Two music icons; same genre of music. They belonged to the Old Mid-West region, later Bendel state, before they went to Edo and Delta States. The duo lived a decade apart. They equally died in their early 60s at an interval of 10 years. Both saw Nigeria in its lowest ebb. They were prophetic in their careers. They were equally apocalyptic about what they saw. They spoke out loud enough, but nobody listened to them. Today, the country is at its worst anyone can imagine. Looking back in their graves to see the Nigeria they sang and warned about, I am sure they will both turn with pains and agony. The situation in Nigeria does not spare the dead, even. And we were warned by our prophets of old. Every society that disrespects its prophets pays for it, dearly. So, it is with Nigeria. You see the Nigerian looks upon Nigeria as a theatre and the entire population representing and manifesting the full spectrum of acts and actors. In this revelry, life is the theatre; the nation is the stage upon which we perform. The politicians and a few of us are the actors, very often mediocre. When stars appear, it is more often because a play must have a star rather than because the player is possessed of some dramatic genius. We saw it with Obasanjo, we saw it with Mr. Yar’adua, and with the shoeless one, we are seeing it with the soon-to-end Mr. Buhari. We falter and we muff our lines; sometimes our performance takes on an aspect of the grotesque-nobody takes this seriously because it is perceived as being the nature of the play. Our people become the audience.... https://www.thenews-chronicle.com/buying-naira-with-naira-rantings-and-musings/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost follow us on Facebook for more https://web.facebook.com/tncng Follow us on twitter https://twitter.com/ThenewsC

You must have watched the video trending on social media titled “Who handed over Nigeria to the Fulani?” Some answered by saying the departing British colonial masters handed over Nigeria to the Fulani. There is some truth in that assertion. But others, including this writer, have countered that the Southern political leaders who preferred to accept worthless positions from Northern/Fulani leaders instead of allowing for the collaboration of the East and West of the country were the ones that actually handed over Nigeria to the Fulani. If the retreating British colonial powers handed over Nigeria to the Fulani, the southern political leaders of the immediate post-colonial Nigeria had many golden opportunities to seize that power but foolishly threw it away on the altar of petty political rivalry and jealousies, personal animosities and needless grinding of axes... https://www.thenews-chronicle.com/what-do-the-fulani-want/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost follow us on Facebook for more https://web.facebook.com/tncng Follow us on twitter https://twitter.com/ThenewsC

The credibility challenge that confronts the judiciary in Nigeria is one which is as old as the return of democracy in 1999.Given all that has happened especially with court decisions drenched with dubiety, many Nigerians look at the courts with only suspicion.
