Arab’s longest-ruling leader captured in a hole

Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi, born on June 7, 1942 and commonly known as Muammar Gaddafi  or Colonel Gaddafi, was the autocratic ruler of Libya, from September 1, 1969 when he seized power in a military coup, until 2011 when his government was overthrown by a NATO-backed rebel force in a civil war. His 42-year rule, prior to the uprising, made him the fourth longest-ruling non-royal leader since 1900, as well as the longest-ruling Arab leader.

He variously styled himself as 'the Brother Leader', 'Guide of the Revolution', and the 'King of Kings'.

After seizing power in 1969, he abolished the Libyan Constitution of 1951 and imposed laws based on the political ideology he had formulated, called the Third International Theory and published in The Green Book,

FORMER governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje, and four others facing an 18-count charge of money laundering and diversion of public funds preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were yesterday admitted to bail by a Federal High Court, sitting in Gombe on stringent conditions. Politics / Efcc Trial: Ex-ogun Commissioners Insist On Daniel's Innocence by newswizard(m): 12:45am On Oct 19, 2011
Former Ogun State commissioners who served under the immediate past governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, yesterday reaffirmed their loyalty and support for their erstwhile boss. The commissioners, who paid a solidarity visit to the Sagamu residence of the former governor, expressed confidence that he would triumph over his ongoing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Daniel, who was granted bail last week by an Ogun State High Court, sitting in Abeokuta, is facing a 16-count charge of fraud, stealing, illegal deduction of local government funds and false assets declaration.

But rising from a closed-door meeting with the ex-governor, the former commissioners declared that Daniel’s trial by the anti-graft commission was politically-motivated and vowed to support him throughout the duration of his trial.

Briefing reporters shortly after the meeting which lasted about one hour, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy http://nigeriancompass.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6642:efcc-trial-ex-ogun-commissioners-insist-on-daniels-innocence&catid=54:nigeria-today&Itemid=594
Politics / Nnpc, Pppra Deductions Of N330b Stall Monthly Allocations by newswizard(m): 12:40am On Oct 19, 2011
The monthly allocation among the three tiers of government was yesterday put off due to a disagreement arising from certain deductions made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulation Authority (PPPRA). The Nigerian Compass gathered that the meeting was stalemated because of the alleged deduction of N100 billion by NNPC supposedly for fuel subsidy while the PPPRA also deducted N230 billion for the same purpose.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has given an insight into why the 2012 Budget benchmark was reduced from $75 per barrel to $70 per barrel.

She said it was because of the volatility and uncertainty in the international scene as well as in the oil market that necessitated the decision to review the benchmark downward.

When confronted with the allegation of deadlock in the allocation to the tiers of government, the Minister of State, Finance, Dr. Yerima Lawan Ngama, was not forthcoming until Dr. Okonjo-Iweala came to his aid by offering explanation that in her opinion might have led to the deadlock.

Politics / Why Jonathan Must Avoid Obasanjo, By David-west by newswizard(m): 12:37am On Oct 19, 2011
FORMER Petroleum Minister, Prof. Tamuno David-West, has a strong advice for President Goodluck Jonathan: Avoid Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at all cost because of the terrible things he did in the past. David-West, who declared that the situation in the country is worse than the series of tragedy leading to the civil war between 1967 and 1970, advised Jonathan to be careful and not allow Obasanjo dictate policies, which may lead to the country's disintegration.

He said: “More crises are coming and Jonathan should be very careful; let it not be said that during his time, Nigeria broke up. It would pain me greatly because this is a great nation, 250 ethnic nations, led by God, friendly climate, luxuriant vegetation, abundant human and material resources but yet, we are suffering. Why? Because God is not on the stage.

“Now, more and more areas of conflicts are opening up, all because of Jonathan’s lack of vision and direction. The situation we have in Nigeria today is worse than during the civil war. These 250 ethnic nations must stay together. In a situation like this, what we need is a true federation. The centre is too strong, that is why if we don’t take time, it will break. read more http://nigeriancompass.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6645:why-jonathan-must-avoid-obasanjo-by-david-west&catid=54:nigeria-today&Itemid=594
