ABRAKA – ONE person was on Wednesday feared dead while another is currently battling for life at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara following an attack by a group of suspected herdsmen at their cassava farm in Abraka community.
The victims, Mr. Happy Akpomiemie and father of 11 is feared killed while his wife, Mrs. Patience Akpomiemie, was reportedly shot on the back by the herdsmen while trying to escape from the scene of the attack.
The attack on the Akpomiemie family is coming two days after another resident of Abraka, Mrs. Patricia Okpako escaped from a group of herdsmen who attempted to rape her in her farm at Abraka.
Expressing worries that if nothing is done to stem the renewed attacks by herdsmen in the area, the member representing Ethiope East in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Evance Ivwurie said, “Am afraid we are going to resolve to self help in defending ourselves.”
Giving details on how she escaped being raped, Mrs. Okpako who said she was on her monthly flow, had to through her bloody pad on the herdsmen who insisted seeing evidence that she was menstruating when she pleaded with them earlier.

“They did not believe when I told them I was menstruating as they insisted on seeing evidence, so I brought out the bloody pad and threw it on them. In the confusing that followed, I fled and escaped,” she said.
Speaking on his ordeal, son of Happy Akpomiemie, Elvis who had accompanied his parents to the farm stated that they (him and his parents) had gone to the farm at about 4pm on Wednesday when they were accosted by the armed herdsmen with their herd.
He said: “Sensing danger, my father told me to run and that he and my mother would look for a way to escape, as soon as I started running, my mother followed but unfortunately, she was shot on the back and this was followed by three gunshots.
“I was able to run for safety and hide in the bush till 10pm before I came out to town. My mother also, was able to run to safety from where she was taken to the Abraka general hospital and subsequently referred to Oghara owing to the seriousness of her wounds.”

Condemning the incident while describing it as unfortunate and disastrous, Ivwurie during a visit to the affected families, said: “It is so unfortunate that in the last two years, 12 of my constituents have been killed by these herdsmen. Today we are running to save the life of this woman while another is missing.
“I am calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police to immediately send a team of policemen to Abraka in the next 24 hours to comb the area and find these culprits, else am afraid we are going to resolve to self help in defending ourselves as a people and am ready to die for this cause.”

Shanghai Shenhua have terminated the contract of Boca Juniors-bound Carlos Tevez by mutual consent, the Chinese Super League (CSL) side announced on Saturday.
The former Manchester United and Manchester City forward had another 12 months to run on his deal, and long-drawn negotiations with the struggling giants led to the decision.
"The club would like to place on record our gratitude to Tevez for his contributions last season and wish him all the best in his future endeavours," read a statement.

The Argentina international is expected to return to Boca Juniors, where he started his professional career in 2001.

Spain defender Sergio Ramos is adamant his country will compete at the World Cup after suggestions they might be excluded following a warning from Fifa.
Football's governing body sent a letter to the Spanish football association (RFEF) stating that the government must not interfere in its elections, after reports in the country.
If deemed guilty Fifa can choose to suspend the membership of any country.
Ramos said: "I can't believe we could miss out due to such a dispute."
"I struggle to believe that."
Spanish publication El Pais said the country's sports council contacted the RFEF over ballot to choose a successor to ex-president Angel Maria Villar, who stepped down in July on corruption charges.
A statement from Fifa said: "A joint delegation from Fifa and Uefa will travel to Madrid in the near future to observe and analyse the situation that the RFEF is going through.
"We recently sent a letter to the RFEF showing concern and reminding them that, according to the Fifa statutes, all member federations must manage their affairs independently and ensure that there is no interference by third parties."
When asked about the threat hanging over Spain's participation at the World Cup, the country's prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, said: "I cannot contemplate that scenario.
"I'm absolutely convinced Spain will go to the World Cup and that we are going to win it."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba will return to the Manchester United squad for Saturday's Premier League game against Newcastle at Old Trafford.
Striker Ibrahimovic, 36, is yet to play this season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in April.
Midfielder Pogba, 24, has not played since injuring a hamstring against Basel in September.
Defender Marcos Rojo is also available and manager Jose Mourinho said "all three will be selected".
Rojo, 27, suffered cruciate knee ligament damage in
the same match as Ibrahimovic - a Europa League quarter-final second-leg victory over Anderlecht.
Mourinho said it was clear there was a "Manchester United before and after" Pogba's injury.
United recorded three wins and one draw in the four league games they played before the France midfielder was forced off during the Champions League fixture at Old Trafford.
Without him they won three Champions League games and two EFL Cup ties but lost twice in seven league games - drawing one and winning the other four.
"He has qualities that influence our approach in matches," said Mourinho.
Former Sweden striker Ibrahimovic made 46 appearances and scored 28 goals for United last season.
He was released by the club in June after his season was ended prematurely by a knee injury, but re-signed on a one-year deal in August.
"Last season we played with Zlatan every minute," added Mourinho.
"We have learned how to play without him. Of course we welcome him back. He is an incredible personality."

Ibrahimovic's return to Old Trafford came after United had signed striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton for an initial £75m, and the 24-year-old has scored seven times in his first 11 Premier League games.
But Mourinho says the Belgium international and Ibrahimovic can play together.
"Good players can play together," said the Portuguese. "With good players, it is easy to play together.
"We can't expect him (Ibrahimovic) to play full 90 minutes or consecutive matches. He needs time to be back to his level - fitness and sharpness is everything."
