We need to learn how to change our mentality as citizens of Nigeria, An American would never call products front china substandard.

China is a country with over triple the population of Nigeria, yet has billion of dollars in her foreign reserve.

Suffice to note, 75% if tech coys gets their products assembled and/or coupled in china.

China has helped in the affordability of most techs we use today in African nations. I call them the rescuer nations...they have tried to an extent in fulfilling Karl Marx's wish of an egalitarian society, in his communist manifesto.

If not for China, would you or your relative have been able to afford somethings?? Answer is NO!

Let's us change our perspectives abeg!, your country has been sold out by hungry political office holders and you are here talking trash about one product is terrible fake while the other is original.

Convert your naira earnings to dollars and see how backward your country has been moving in the last decades

For Toyota 98 model, you can use Dexron 2 of Total, Oando or better still, Mobil At220. They are all good for the Corolla 98. The vibe is similar to the Corolla of 2003 and so Dexron III is your ideal fluid but avoid those red cans ATF and seahorse.
Thanks so much. I have been looking for a thread to guide me on the choice of seahorse or oando ATF. I Called my mechanic to ask for alternative ATF asides Mobil 220 dex 111, he said i should consider holts or seahorse, dex 111

Meanwhile, a friend advised i use oando dex 111. I use a 2001 Camry. I bought it Naija used in June 2020, never changed the gear TF since..

Reason is because each time i remove the dip stick, the oil is still reddish in colour, unlike brown or black which in most cases, are signs of overdue fluid.

It appears oando dex 111 is better compared to seahorse. I.e. from ur advise here.

But sir, since the Tf is still reddish in colour, with no burning smell, should I leave it or change it? Instead of just wasting money for no reason.

Moreso, i have always been worried with this issue of engine oil spec to use ..i know 5w-30 is Toyota recommended viscosity but i have been using the regular mobil 20w 50. Reason is because the 1st user wasn't certain of the viscosity of the oil his mechanic normally use but he confirmed it was Mobil brand.

I have always wanted to test the genuiness of these 5w 30 but i have been fearful of knocking my engine because of our temp. in Nigeria...or if changing it might wash off sludges from seals and all, thereby causing leakages around the sump and seal areas of the engine.

I would have easily bought the recommended one if i was the first user of the car from foreign used...i know a neighbor who switched from using the regular mobil to hardex 5w 30 in his 2006 highlander i4, (using for over 2yrs now as toks) after complaining that the regular mobil dried up after he arrived to Benin with his family for Xmas. He did the change over there.

But i am skeptical in my case cry. Trusting God that one day, very soon, i would also use a brand new car so i would stick to OEM recommendations without fear or

@ikenna etal

Hello Sir. Good day to you. I use a 1999 toyota camry. After flushing my radiator some months back at a car wash, the water pressure from the nozzle destroyed the cells of the radiator (due to weakness i guess)

So I had to change the complete unit (inclusive of fan and thermoswitch ). But I later observed the fuel consumption began to increase and the temperature gauge was always extremely low even with AC switched on irrespective of distance I travel and intensity of heat from sun.

Met few kazeems who told me ''Bros, your engine go last well well becos him head go dey kool well well''. But as car user, and literate, I know this is purely abnormal and my online research, coupled with one of your responses states that if a car does not operate at the normal temperature, it would result in reduced fuel economy and the engine will wear out.

So, I embarked a DIY, surveyed the engine bay and realized the fan runs consistently making the engine over-cool due to disconnected thermoswitch. So what did was to plug the connector and Lo and behold, the temperature stays at normal level because the fans would only operate when the temperature reaches its apex.

But, the challenge here is this:Having connected the thermo-switch, I did a personal observation with the bonnet open while the car was idling. I noticed that when ever the temperature reaches it's limit, the fan operates at perfect and full speed. But once I switch on the AC, the speed reduces.

This has been a major challenge for me using the AC. The AC system is excellent. Thought it was the AC unit not until i took it for an inspection that I confirmed it is very perfect. The compressor was loosed...assessed by a highly reliable engineer and certified it is in perfect condition.

He however advised I consult a good engineer as regards the reduction in fan speed when ever the AC is working. According to him, the AC system requires good suction of Air through the condenser whenever its working.

Took it for scan, the following are the results

P0105
P0401 and
P0/1..... (not sure) but its meant bad downstream o2 sensor

But asides these results, I am still concerned about the reduction in speed of the cooling fan when the AC is operating

Sir, please advise. Is this normal?

Regards

Haba! i wonder where political threats would end this our nation in. When someone is committed to doing the right things, some fellow "political monkeys" would be looking for a way to track them down. Those who would have changed this country long time ago were killed by some so called ring leaders in order to satisfy their own selfish ambitions.

Now that is the D-day for Ekiti, i could imagine the army of soldiers that would be in an array for the sake of this genius!!! undecided

PoliticsCyber Crimes by neyo4real(op): 10:55am On May 05, 2009

President Umaru Yar’Adua said on Monday that the threats posed to the nation’s economic investments by cyber crimes were beyond what mere legislations by individual countries could solve.

He argued that online fraud, being a global problem, needed a “global solution” by all countries identifying and applying workable long-time solutions.

Yar’Adua’s position was contained in a message he sent to the opening of the “1st Annual Conference on Cyber Security” in Abuja.

According to Yar’Adua, there is evidence that cyber criminals exploit loopholes in national and regional laws to commit more crimes and escape punishment.

The President also observed that online fraudsters were highly-mobile, moving from countries where there were laws to those without enforceable legislations to “launch attacks on victims with total impunity even in those countries which do not have effective laws in a place like ours.”

let stop deceiving our selves in this country. action speaks louder than just mere talk.
I've been hearing this fight against corruption since i was young, even if some are caught, they would free them at the end of the day.

besides, not yar'adua's regime could put a stop anyway   wink

RomanceShould I Still Ask Her Out? by neyo4real(op): 8:33pm On May 04, 2009
Hello fellow N/Ls, there is this particular girl in my program on campus. Both of us have been very good friends right from year one, we disclose virtually everything about our personal lives to each other, we share ideas together and also study together. I tell her about my g/f who is not studying in the same school (home) likewise she too, She does tell me everything about her b/f and even disclose what is meant to be confidential to me, i mean what is meant to be highly confidential. And come to think of it, am not in any position to hear her past experiences, but instead, she discloses everything to me. My point here now is that, first she knows i have a g/f who happens to be in another school entirely and of which i use to tell her (this my school friend) that am not getting on with my g/f again like before. Am kinda falling for this girl and i dont really know how to tell her how much i like her personality but she does say she have a b/f at home, perhaps am turning every thing upside down?, may be the girl only takes me as a casual friend or probably takes me as someone she could share her emotions with, cos at the end of the day, i dont want this girl to justify that my being her friend all this while, is just to achieve a selfish ambition cos already, she knows i have a g/f and i know she also has one and also, knowing fully well how much she speaks it to my face that she is really in love with the guy. And when ever she says this, she is indirectly sending a message to me!

Should i still ask her out?
Ur suggestions are highly welcomed!!!

Am in love with two girls on campus. one is an Edo girl very beautiful, brilliant and gentle. but the problem is that her calmness is what pisses me off because am kinda calm myself and i do most of the talk whenever we are together, as if am a radio without battery.
The second girl on the other hand, she is also beautiful and from my tribe. She is kinda lousy as in, she is just too agile infact, she is the opposite of calmness but very inquisitive anyway. She is a little bit below the edo girl in terms of academics.

PoliticsCj Throws Out Suit Against Obasanjo’s Third Term Bid by neyo4real(op): 2:21pm On Apr 24, 2009
By Tony Amokeodo

THE Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdullahi Mustapha, has dismissed a suit seeking to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the alleged billions of naira spent on the ill-fated third term bid of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In his judgment on a suit by a Lagos -based lawyer, Mr Onu Uche, Justice Mustapha held that the anti-graft agency could not be compelled to investigate any allegation of crime, insisting that the EFCC had the discretion on whether or not to conduct an investigation on any crime.

Uche had filed an order of mandamus, compelling the EFCC Chairman, Mrs. Farida Waziri, to immediately commence investigations into several billions of naira that were allegedly channelled from the public funds into the third term project.

The plaintiff also sought an order mandating the EFCC to investigate all the principal actors involved in the third term agenda and another order for the EFCC to initiate proceedings against the organisers, in the event of their being found culpable during investigation.

He contended that the action of the EFCC refusing to investigate the allegation was contrary to section 6 and 7 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004.

But the CJ held that, ”To my mind, if the position of the law is that the police and by extension the EFCC cannot be compelled to investigate an allegation of crime, it would therefore, not be a judicial or judicious exercise of discretion to grant the reliefs.

PoliticsSenate Queries Cbn, Customs Over N114.5bn Ciss Fund by neyo4real(op): 1:50pm On Apr 24, 2009
By Oluwole Josiah, Abuja

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts on Wednesday asked the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Ministry of Finance and the Nigeria Customs Service to justify the disbursement of about N114.5bn, that accrued to the Customs Import Supervision Scheme in five years.

The CISS fund is derived from a one per cent levy on Custom’s revenue to pay for inspection services.

The three agencies, which appeared before the committee, had difficulties explaining the actual value of the accruals and how much was left after disbursements.

The four benefiting companies contracted under a Build, Operate and Transfer agreement, were also asked to account for adherence to the terms of their respective contracts.

According to the documents submitted by the Ministry of Finance, a total of N114.5bn had accrued to CISS fund between 2003 and 2008 and was paid into the pool account domiciled at the CBN.

A total of N58.1bn had been disbursed to four service providers’ which are handling the import inspections with their scanners.

The CBN’s presentation put the CISS account balance at N21.6bn as at April 2009.

While making his presentation, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Steve Oronsaye, said the fund was meant for the development of the Customs Service with regard to enhanced imports supervision and checking of goods at the ports.

He noted that when importers paid the levies, the money was not sent to Customs directly, but was paid into an account with the CBN.

According to him, this was so because pre-shipment inspection had been replaced with the destination inspection regime.

Oronsanye said the government entered into an agreement with the service providers when the Customs required scanners at the ports, but that the government had no money available at the time.

He said the contract required the service providers to invest their monies in the equipment and transfer to the Customs within a period of seven years from 2006.

The committee was worried that the agencies could not account for the balance of N34.8bn in the face of the declared balance and the amount disbursed.

The CBN figures showed that between 2006 and 2008, Global Scan received N6.45bn; SGS, N5.081bn; Contecna, N24.93bn; and Wolfenton, N21.373 bn.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Ahmed Lawan, said the level of investment by the companies showed that they had not kept to the terms of the contract.

He said the companies were supposed to train the staff of the NCS on the operations of the scanners within the period of the contract before the transfer, but said that evidence showed that the companies were not adhering to this aspect of the contract.

“My fear is that at the end of the contract, it will be difficult for the Nigerian Customs to take over the machines because they have not been adequately trained.

“Because they (companies) don’t want to leave as a result of the money they are making, they are not willing to train Nigerians to take over the scanners,” he said.

The committee ordered the apex bank to submit all the details of the accounts of the CISS since its inception in 1979 to ascertain the manner in which the funds had been administered within the period.

The committee also vowed to probe the four companies to see if they had made any meaningful investments on the ground by various visits to selected operational sites.
