OCTAVO:

I asked for this transmission fluid at Total and was told it's N6200 per litre. Is that the actual price or they are trying to play smart? Cos I will 4 Litres most likely.
Yes. That's the price.

Hi,
I just got a Toyota Avensis 2010 model with about 204,000km. I have not change the engine and transmission oil for about 4 weeks now.
I'm noticing the transmission is not picking fine early in the morning, until the engine temperature rises to about 3 bars.
Kindly advise on the best engine and transmission oil to use.
I'm available on whatsapp 0808 474 3322.
Thanks.

Total mvlv is ideal for the transmission fluid. Get them from the major stations. As for engine oil, check the oil cap and look for the appropriate one.

For Toyota 98 model, you can use Dexron 2 of Total, Oando or better still, Mobil At220. They are all good for the Corolla 98. The vibe is similar to the Corolla of 2003 and so Dexron III is your ideal fluid but avoid those red cans ATF and seahorse.

Thanks so much. I have been looking for a thread to guide me on the choice of seahorse or oando ATF. I Called my mechanic to ask for alternative ATF asides Mobil 220 dex 111, he said i should consider holts or seahorse, dex 111

Meanwhile, a friend advised i use oando dex 111. I use a 2001 Camry. I bought it Naija used in June 2020, never changed the gear TF since..

Reason is because each time i remove the dip stick, the oil is still reddish in colour, unlike brown or black which in most cases, are signs of overdue fluid.

It appears oando dex 111 is better compared to seahorse. I.e. from ur advise here.

But sir, since the Tf is still reddish in colour, with no burning smell, should I leave it or change it? Instead of just wasting money for no reason.

Moreso, i have always been worried with this issue of engine oil spec to use ..i know 5w-30 is Toyota recommended viscosity but i have been using the regular mobil 20w 50. Reason is because the 1st user wasn't certain of the viscosity of the oil his mechanic normally use but he confirmed it was Mobil brand.

I have always wanted to test the genuiness of these 5w 30 but i have been fearful of knocking my engine because of our temp. in Nigeria...or if changing it might wash off sludges from seals and all, thereby causing leakages around the sump and seal areas of the engine.

I would have easily bought the recommended one if i was the first user of the car from foreign used...i know a neighbor who switched from using the regular mobil to hardex 5w 30 in his 2006 highlander i4, (using for over 2yrs now as toks) after complaining that the regular mobil dried up after he arrived to Benin with his family for Xmas. He did the change over there.

But i am skeptical in my case cry. Trusting God that one day, very soon, i would also use a brand new car so i would stick to OEM recommendations without fear or

A 2001 Camry requires Dex 11 or 111 Electronics. I will suggest that you use Mobil ATF 220. Don't ever use those red can gangs of dead oils. For the engine oil, I can't suggest anything since you already know much about the causes and effects.

What is the recommended atf for corolla 2003 though the deep stick indicated dexreon 11/111 my mechanic top my transmission fluid few weeks ago with dexron 111 with black and red cans after the fluid fall below the low guage but everything seem to be ok at first but recently I notice gear not selecting properly again, and when shift to drive or reverse it make one annoying sound. Then the car now make too much noises when start and when drive. What is your advice

Drain out the oil and look for fluide AT42 from Total. It's Dexron III. The reason why I am always recommending Total is because it's mostly in original form, not adulterated. I have shouted many times that we should flee from the red cans ATF. They don't even know what they produced. Don't even use it as power steering fluid. You can also use Oando Dex 111 but never 11. The Dex 11 is not electronic controlled, it is for 1996 Camry. Mobil ATF 220 is also suitable for the Corolla

Thanks for this great insights, i did exactly as you suggested but it seem the damaged have been done already, my mechanic drained out the fluid and used AT42 , well the jerking have stopped but the car is entering neutral on its own when on drive of which the mechanic said I may need to change the entire gear as nothing could be done. Please what is your opinion sir.

My transmission oil is low, the mechanic wants to top it for me , can I top it immediately I get to his garage Or should I leave the whole day so that the transmission will cool off before the oil can be added??

First thing is to get the right tx fluid. What car are you talking about?

You can leave it to cool in your compound and top it yourself.

Car is toyota camry 2009. .. went for an engine oil change today , the fuel station alignment guy that handled the oil change found out my transmission bolt underneath the car is loose ... And he said it has been dripping oil ever since ... He checked the transmission fluid near the drivers tyre side ... Note camry 2009 doesnt have a transmission oil dipstick in the engine bay ... He said the oil is short according to his checks , he said I should add it transmission oil ... I querried him if it's normal to add ATF oil when car is a bit hot. .. he said no problem at all .. the ATF needed is Toyota WS ... I serviced my gear 2020 ... I want to top it with the remaining WS from the 2020 service ... The thing is I can't top it in my compound cos to get to were I can pour in the ATF oil around the car tyre , I need some tools which I don't have ..... If I go to the Alignment guy's place , all he would do is to loosen the bolt and pour in the oil immediately... Will it affect my gear ?

Hello sooperrescue, thanks for your great contributions. My 03/04 corolla’s gearbox developed issues some weeks back which made the car able to reverse only, and not drive forward. A supposed gear-master boasted it was something around the fiber and that he could fix it. The fraudster collected about 30k to replace the part and for workmanship, only to notice that the scammer didn't even open the gearbox but only did some abracadabra which made me drive the car for 3 days before it packed up again. Now ready to buy a gearbox, the mechanic I got to help with the replacement scanned the car and based on the report, the only issue is the vehicle speed sensor (P0500) which he also says can be fixed instead of buying a new gear. Kindly advise me, would replacing the damaged speed sensor make the gear get back into shape or I just buy a new gearbox ? I would appreciate your swift response on the matter. Thanks

The mechanic is right. If your speedometer is not working, it’s also another sign. It is also called the Abs sensor.

He is right but if you give it to a gear spécialist, he can change the fibers and the gear filter and it will work fine but if you don’t want the stress, get a good gearbox

Lai Lai. Never try it. Dex 11 are not for electronically controlled gear box. In fact you can't use Dexron 2 for baby boy talk less of an advanced gearbox that requires high quality oil to lubricate and cool down the heat in your Civic
