Omoku Youths Cryout over Brutalising of Protesters by NAOC

Omoku Youth Federation (OYF) has accused multinational oil giant, Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC), of sponsoring soldiers to brutalise its members who were on a peaceful protest at the company’s plant in Omoku.

The youth body, which claimed that some of its members were seriously injured and currently receiving medical treatment, warned the oil company to be ready to vacate Omoku if any of the victims dies.

Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, OYF executive member, Dr. Lucky Ojobah, said the attack on the protesters was the second in the last three months.

Ojobah said, “In continuing the struggle for the development of Omoku Communities, OYF wrote more letters to NAOC to still request for audience, but NAOC still neglected our letters, as there were no efforts made by NAOC to call for discussions. OYF on 30th of August, 2021, embarked on another peaceful protest to OB/OB Gas Plant, Omoku.

“While the Youths were patiently waiting for a call for meeting, at the time the DSS boss in Omoku invited me to inform me on 31st August, 2021, that he has interfaced for OYF to meet with Naoc management in Port Harcourt on 1st September, 2021, NAOC sponsored another round of brutalization of peaceful protesters.

“This time, not only supervised by military attaché of NAOC but the Nigerian Army in the numbers, brutalized peaceful protesters and destroyed protesters valuables, while other valuables were lost.

“While we were still counting our losses away from the gas plant, the Army still rounded us up and hit us mercilessly. Many of the protesters are still lying in hospitals in critical conditions, two of which are still in coma. I managed to write this on my hospital bed. I woke up in consciousness this morning.”

It is sad that Abia the home of the gallant women who chased the British out during the Ava women's riot has become so cowed by the evil trio of Uzor Kalu, T A. Orji and Ikpeazu . Where are Abia youths, intellectuals, the clergy, opinion leaders and the traditional ruling class? They have been silenced by largese and greed. Kudos to NEW ABIA Vision for speaking up for our people. Now is the time to act and liberate Abia state.

Abia is a completely failed state. Governance has gone on sabbatical under Ikpeazu.

30 YEARS ON: WHAT ARE ABIANS CELEBRATING?

The Holy book admonishes us that "cleanliness is next to Godliness". It is therefore not wrong that in line with the sobriquet of "God's own state", Abia state should be a place of cleanliness, but environmentally, physically, morally and spiritually. It should be a state where the conduct of the leadership and the people will not only be examplery but can stand up to any scrutiny.

But this is not the case. For a first time visitor to the state, especially if one is travelling from the southern borders of the state, the sight of a failed section of the Enugu -Port Harcourt expressway after Obehie, where a state government managed landfill has taken over one lane is unnerving. The filt that has been allowed to erode the section of that road pales into insignificance compared to the stench that oozes out of that environmental nightmare. This stench is so tick that not even the tight confines of wound up glasses can stop. It is a stench that follows you around the state.

Metaphorically, this stench is the stench of corruption and atrocious incompetence that have suffused and enveloped Abia state from inception. The series of military administrators that goverened the state owed no allegiance to anybody save for their military overlords and cared less how they fared as administrators.

But from 1999, with the dawn of democracy and the enthronement of a new leadership paradigm across the country, it was expected that Abia state will pick up it's boostraps and join other states in the race to deliver the dividends of democracy to her citizens. In an ironic twist of fate, while other states were surging forward, Abia state, starting from governor Orji Uzor Kalu, was running in the opposite direction, backwards! This downward drift to abyss of hopelessness continued through Theordore Orji, to the incumbent Okezie Ikpeazu. Abia today holds the unenvievable record of being the most governance deprived state in Nigeria, if not the entire world.

At every part of the state; every strata of governance, every sector of human engagement, one is confronted with a debilitating leadership failure of epic proportion.

It therefore did not come as a surprise when a member of the House of Assembly in a surprise move queried the Ikpeazu government to account for over 56 million Dollars loan it sourced from the World Bank to fix roads and other public infrastructure in Aba and environs.

But this pales in comparison to the unconscionable sqaundering of the over 16 billion Naira Paris Club refund to the state by the Federal Government. In one of the most devious finincial heists known in history, the money developed wings and has not been accounted for till date.

The stories that come out of Abia state, remian distasteful and stand as a ringing indictment on all the past and present leaders of the state. Recently it was the arrest of a former governor of the state T. A. Orji for stealing 525 billion Naira belonging to the state, by the EFCC.

According to the EFCC, the monies were N383bn revenue from federal accounts, N55bn excess crude revenue, N2.3bn Sure-P, N1.8bn ecological funds, N10.5bn loan from First Bank of Nigeria through the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, N4bn loan from Diamond Bank, N12bn Paris Club refund, N2bn agricultural loan for farmers and N55bn Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC).

Since it's creation in 1997, Abians have been inflicted with the most backward looking leadership in recorded history. Like it's predecesors, the Okezie Ikpeazu administration only arises from it's deep slumber to influct further pains on the already traumatized psyche of the people. If it is not owing a record 30 months salary to her poor workers, it is owing pensioners a backlog of unpaid pensions strechting into years.

Delipidated roads lither every nook and cranny of the state. The education sector in the state has all but collapsed. Healthcare is non existent.

Aba, the economic powerhouse of the state bears the brunt of the failure of governance in Abia state. The internationally recognized Ariaria Market is an environmental nightmare. Filth and dirt compete with goods and services for space. The images coming out of the market is a devaluation of the proud heritage of Abians and indeed Ndigbo as an industrious and decent people.

Okezie Ikpeazu's caricature of a flyover at Osisioma has not only failed to live up to any geo-technics and structural integrity tests, but today is the oldest flyover still under construction in Nigeria. Interestingly, nobody knows how much the flyover is costing the Abia tax payer.

From every perspective one looks at Ikpeazu's Abia state, the result is the same. A linear descent into utter hopelessness and chaos.

But 30 years is enough time to endure any malady. The serial misgovernace of Abia state like any malady has a cure.

Those who have held Abia down for 30 years only succeeded because the people acquicized and became willing accomplicices in the decimation of their commonwealth and their collective future.

It is our sacred duty to rise up and oppose this oppressive and suffocating government of looters. We must insist that they be held accountable for their actions.

Go out today and take part in the ongoing Continuos Voter Registration (CVR) www.cvr.inecnigeria.org . The idea that our votes do not count is a disempowering concept promoted by criminal politicians to stop us from participating in elections. We can vote and protect our votes. We can leverage technology to defeat rigging.

We must return Abia to its glory as 'God's Own State', because the voice of the people is the voice of God.

Join the New Abia Vision as we commence the processes to reclaim and take back Abia State. Neutrality is not an option.

What Killed Capt Hosa Okunbor?

By Eghosa Odiemwinge

News of the death of Niger Delta Titan and business mogul, Capt Hosa Wells Okunbor filtered into the country on Saturday like the cold breeze of the harmmathan. It was both shocking and heart rending.

But leading playwright, environmental activist and Niger Delta liberation icon, Kenule Saro-Wiwa had in his satire, "Africa Kill Her Sun", prepared us for such an eventuality like the death of Capt. Hosa Okunbor. While it has been medically declared that our great icon died of pancreatic cancer, we all know that the said pancreatic cancer has become the ultimate culprit in our brothers death, but it did not act alone. There were other facilitators and enablers, that contributed and hastened his death.

Williams Shakespeare wrote eons ago, that "death is a necessary end that must come when it will". The holy book also admonishes us that " it is appointed unto man to die..."

We take solace that Capt Hosa Wells Okunbor lived a good life, accomplished greatness and left humanity better than he met it through his relentless philanthropy and good works.

But we also need for the sake of posterity to interrogate further, other factors that hastened the death of this Homeric legend.

Capt. Okunbors' epic battle with the enablers of impunity, abuse of office and economic impoverishment of Niger Delta sons and daughters is now in the public domain. It is the stuff of the epic battles of the Illiad.

If the Olympian deities of legend were to come down in human form, Capt. Okunbor would have earned a place of honor amongst them. At the age of 21 he had qualified as an airline pilot. After a successful career, he resigned and set up businesses both on land and in the sea. One of his successful businesses was Ocean Marine Services Limited, a giant within the nations maritime and logistics sector.

This success attracted envy and jealousy from a fellow Niger Deltan instead of applause and admiration.

For years, Capt. Okunbor had operated the Secured Anchorage Area (SAA) project for the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), in partnership with the Nigerian Navy. It was a win-win deal for all parties. Capt Okunbor acquired and provided the marine vessels used to patrol and secure the Anchorage area, while the Nigerian Navy provided the personnel that manned the vessels. Container vessels and other maritime crafts were guaranteed a safe heaven while waiting for their turn to berth at the Lagos quays. The NPA reaped as more vessels patronized the Lagos ports, while dollars poured into government coffers.

The smooth operation of the SAA almost eliminated the incidence of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and the Lagos ports area. Ship owners and marine operators heaved a sigh of relief. The SAA project ran for years without government interference, to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Then came the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, a Niger Deltan. He did not hide his distaste for the roaring success of his fellow Niger Deltan, fellow party man and elder brother, Capt. Hosa Okunbor. Propelled by greed and covetousness, he pounced on OMSL, with his eyes fixed on forcefully taking over the SAA project, using his position as minister.

Through his hirelings and agents he caused all manner of fictitious and frivolous petitions to be written to the presidency alleging all manner of infractions against OMSL and Capt. Okunbor. Using his connections in the presidency he cancelled the SAA project and left OMSL in the lurch.

Letters from the Nigerian Navy, NPA and stakeholders in the shipping sector seeking to clarify the issues and paint a true picture of the operation of the SAA were ignored by Amaechi. He wanted the SAA for himself and having smelled blood, there was no stopping him.

Capt. Okunbor also fought back not just to regain his business back, but to stop Amaechi and his cronies from further tarnishing his name and image. He equally fought back to let Amaechi know that a brother from the creek who seeks only to maroon his brothers businesses was worse than the so called enemy from the far reaches of the sahel.

Thus began the epic fight. Typical of Amaechi he gave no quarters and took no prisoners. He fought Capt Okunbor with everything in his asernal.

Capt Okunbor met with presidency officials several times and secured a presidential directive that the cancellation of the contract be lifted. But Amaechi did not budge. He merely bided his time and struck again and still cancelled the contract. The cost of fighting to reverse the cancellation cost Capt. Okunbor millions of US Dollars.

The next phase of the battle was in the National Assembly. Capt. Okunbor petitioned the National Assembly. The Senate set up a committee headed by Senator George Thompson Sekibo, which carried out a thorough investigation and recommended that the contract be reinstated as it was properly awarded and was actually adding value to national security and the country's revenue profile.

Amaechi, wallowing in his accustomed abuse of office ignored the Senate. He blew hot and cold, castigating Capt. Okunbor and accusing him of every imaginary infraction even sponsorship of piracy to boom his business. It was really surreal the extent the minister could go to pull his brother down, just to corner his business.

But having been exposed in his scheme to corner the SAA, Amaechi hurriedly handed over the project to NIMASA.

In the wake of these travails in the hands of Amaechi, Capt. Okunbor fell ill and was flown out of the country.

But his troubles were not ended yet. A major oil company in the Niger Delta also cancelled contracts awarded to other companies owned by Capt. Okunbor as a result of negative publicity.

As the orchestrated serial assaults against his businesses continued unabated, international banks also froze some of his accounts, assumably on account of sponsored media reports of his business troubles in Nigeria

The death of Capt. Hosa Okunbor is a confirmation of the undeclared war against Niger Delta leaders and people with strong political profile in recent times.

One of his special purpose vehicles for this grand larcerney is a little known Israeli company known as HSLi. The chairman of HSLi is Amaechi's budy and crony, Nasir Danu.

Today it is the turn of Niger Deltans to wail like David in the Bible, "O my son, Absalom, my son, my son, Absalom! Would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son! The Niger Delta has indeed lost a great son.

Rest in peace Capt. Hosa Wells Okunbor. You fought the good fight. You were victorious in death because you exposed Mr. Powerful Minister for who he really is.

BusinessIYC Gives Agip Two Days Ultimatum Over Redeployed Staff. by nicholasdavout(op): 4:27pm On Jun 27, 2021
The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) 4TH MOBILE PARLIAMENT has given the Nigerian Agip Oil Campany, two days to reinstate Bar Dennis Masi and correct all the anomaly cited in our publications and letters to the MD NAOC, most especially that of 4th December 2020 or face major resistance that will affect NAOC operations both land, swamp and Abuja headquarters.

Barr. Dennis Masi was recently redployed from his position as the manager of the company's Stakeholders management and community development division. This division is tasked with managing relations between the company and its nemerous stakeholders and host communities. Barr Masi, who hails from Omoku in Rivers was abruptly removed as head of the division and replaced with an Igbo man.

The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) 4th Mobile, Parliament also gave notice that it will shut down the operations of the oil multinational in the swamp/ land areas and Abuja office over what it termed "ethnic cleansing" against the people of the area by the oil company.

The 4th Parliament condemned the persistent and continuous marginalization of people from the swamp and land areas of the companies operations in the managerial cadre of the company.

It will be recalled that sometime in December 2020, the Ijaw Youth Council, raised an alarm over the "ethnic cleansing" of people from the major oil-producing areas known as "LANDLORDS" by the management of NAOC in a world press conference.

The Parliament in a statement signed by the Speaker, Rt Hon, Digimie Eldred Pogonyo, drew the attention of the Minister of Petroleum and the Governors of NAOC operation areas of the marginalization of its people and equally put the security agencies on notice over the untoward happenings in the company against them.

Recall that On the 19th of January 2021 we the IYC Parliament joined the CONCERNED LANDLORDS OF SWAMP AND LAND AREA to stage a peaceful protest at the NAOC operations head office in Port Harcourt.

In the course of the protest, we noted that some of the positions within the NAOC management system have been out of limits to people from their area.

According to the group, "the best brains from the Niger Delta were been removed and replaced by staffs from the Igbo speaking areas of the country.

When we started this agitation last year many people did not believe us, some said we are attention seekers "a few hours ago our claims were vindicated as Bar, Mazi Dennis the manager of the Stakeholder Department and Community Development Division who handles community relations and public affairs from Omoku, in Rivers State was replaced by yet another Igbo man".

The following is a narration of the tales of woes of our people: .

1. Anaemia Darego who was humiliated and his family members suffered various kidnaps as orchestrated by the Igbo cabal in your company, and stagnated in your company.

2. Dr Chris Oboh who was unfairly treated and forced out by the evil fraudulent and ethnic politics of your company

3. Engr. Dienye Norman suffered badly in the hands of the cabal and was kidnapped on his way to the office under the fetish agenda of your company

4. Engr. Gerson Ogbulijah was targeted to be killed by hired assassins on his way to and from work only for him to be replaced by an Igbo man, Chris Eke

5. Emeka Okoromah was unceremoniously pushed out of the system despite his years of commitment

6. Dr Mpi, a first-class sound engineer who left the system unceremoniously.

7. Engr. Dan Jumbo, Forcefully replaced by an Ibo man.

The question therefore is, is there no other person from the swamp and land areas operation of NAOC who are qualified to fill those positions? Are those positions only suitable for Igbos and toxic to our people?.

We hereby align ourselves in support of the call from CONCERNED LANDLORDS OF LAND AND SWAMP AREAS operation calling on Landlords to be at alert, for a directive to shut down all NAOC operations within our communities until all issues are resolved".

Swamp and Land Area Landlords Threaten to shut down Agip Operations over continuous marginalization.

Swamp and Land Areas Landlords of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) has given notice that it will shut down the operations of the oil multinational in the swamp and land areas over what the group termed "ethnic cleansing" against people of the area by the oil company.

The group in a statement made available to the media lamented the persistent and continuous marginalization of people from the swamp and land areas of the companies operations in the managerial cadre of the company.

The group in a statement signed by Onisoya James Odum, Chairman, and Temple Sambo, Secretary, drew the attention of the State governors of the NAOC operation areas to the marginalization of its people and equally put the security agencies on notice over the untoward happenings in the company against them.

The group had threatened to declare a force major on the companies operations should the devilish cabal within the company don't rescind its decision by reinstating and recalling the affected staffs

It will be recalled that sometime in December 2020, the group raised an alarm over the "ethnic cleansing" of people from the major oil-producing areas known as "LANDLORDS" by the management of NAOC in a world press conference.

According to the group, "the best brains from the Niger Delta were been removed and replaced by staff from the Igbo speaking areas of the country.

The group further disclosed that "a few hours ago our claims was vindicated as the manager of the SMD stakeholders department and community development division who handles community relations affairs and hails from Omoku, in Rivers State was replaced by yet another Igbo man".
"The question therefore is, are there no other persons from the swamp and land areas operation of NAOC who is qualified to fill positions of a divisional manager? Is that position only suitable for Igbos and toxic to our people?"

The group in the statement disclosed, "We hereby put all landlords, of both swamp and land areas operation to be at alert there will be a directive to shut down all NAOC operations within our communities until all issues are resolved".

In a related development the Swamp and Land areas Landlords letter to The Managing Director, Nigerian Agip Oil Company Ltd, in 2020 titled, "NAKED TRUTH UNRAVELLED: NAOC MANAGEMENT IN FRAUDULENT ACT AGAINST OUR PEOPLE"

The group In the letter referred to their numerous letters to NAOC on the plight of their people for the past years.

According to the letter released to the media, "Today, the truth has been revealed to us through numerous media publication on why our people have suffered many years of unemployment and cheating/maltreatment
from Agip"

The letter reads:

"It is now evident that the unemployment and appointment of our people in NAOC are based on tribal agenda, as we have seen in recent publications. We have checked the facts and it has been confirmed. The general manager of Human Resources and kinsmen from the Igbo tribe has hijacked all the key offices of the company and has been conducting secret employment, making sure that all the contracts/jobs meant for our people are given to only people from his ethnic group.

We refuse to be the goose that lays the golden eggs that will be hijacked and stolen by a well-orchestrated plan by people of Igbo ethnic colouration. We reject to be rubbished in our land through discriminatory and fraudulent employment and appointment rackets in the company. We now realize why core Niger Deltans in your company were treated with ignominy.

Irrespective of the environmental degradation and huge damage to our ecosystem, as a result of your frequent oil spills, you have kept our destiny floating in the hands of the Ibos who completely denied us employment and contracts as well as denying Niger Deltans the opportunity to head top positions, forgetting that we are the source of the economic mainstay of Italy.

We now have the answers to the fate that befell the following Rivers State-born hardworking and illustrious sons in your company:-

6. Dr Mpi, a first-class sound engineer who left the system due to the same evil antics of the Igbo cabal in the Human resources department of your company.

All these are Rivers State indigenes! Now we have the true story of the Igbo agenda in your company, who are manipulating the whole system and keeping our people frustrated and are advising and treating our communities as irritants in the scheme of things in the company producing oil and gas in our land. It is clear now that deliberate anti-community policies are being implemented in the company and no action is being spared by your management to achieve their aim. The oil you are taking from our land is nothing but BLOOD OIL. We proclaim a curse on all the management staff doing this evil to our land.

While we expect you to conduct a Human Resources audit in your company’s employment (staff and contract) operation in Nigeria, being conducted by the general manager of human resources, Callista Azogu and her clique, we shall at the same time be embarking on the following actions:

1. Organize ten thousand youths protests to Government Houses in Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states and then proceed to your operational areas.

2. Demonstration at Agip office in Abuja and Petition to all international human rights groups for your continuous human rights violations, denial of our rights and discriminatory employment policies

We strongly urge you again to investigate these atrocities against our people by your management, as we shall be calling a world press conference to bring our plight to the world and a direct petition to the Italian parliament on the divide and rule system being perpetrated by ENI/NAOC management in Nigeria, reminiscent of the slave trade era. We will not allow it anymore".
