Celtel has changed its name again. It's now going to be called Zain Nigeria Ltd.

I wonder how many times the  company go change name, from econet-vmobile-celtel-ZAIN.

Celtel Nigeria Limited has undergone another name change. It is now to be known as Zain Nigeria Limited.

This re-branding is expected to take effect in in 14 countries across Africa. These include Burkina Faso, Chad, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Speaking at the official re-branding ceremony in Lagos on Friday, the Chief Executive Officer, Zain Nigeria Limited, Mr. Adebayo Ligali, said the move was prompted by the company‘s drive to become a global player in the provision of telecommunications services.

According to him, the initial Celtel brand, presented the company as a continental player. He said the tune has changed as the company was seeing beyond the African continent, with a global perspective.

Zain Group, the leading telecommunications mobile operator servicing over 50 million customers in 22 countries across the Middle East and Africa, said the re-branding of its entire African operations from Celtel to Zain coincided with the linking of the world‘s first borderless mobile service ‘cne network‘ across two continents.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Zain Group, Dr. Saad Al Barrak, ”By rebranding to Zain, we are bringing together our African and Middle East operations under a single, strong and unique identity. We believe the Zain brand provides an optimal platform upon which we can build a top 100 global brand with the ultimate goal of better serving our customers.

”It builds upon the success of our African operations and will propel the Zain Group towards becoming one of the top ten global mobile telecommunications companies by 2011.”

To mark the inauguration of its new identity across Africa, Zain also announced the creation of the world‘s first cross-continental borderless network, extending and linking its ‘One Network‘ service between Africa and the Middle East.

According to the company, “the service will be available to 500 million people stretching from the west coast of Africa to the Middle East, covering an area larger than the United States of America, which allows Zain customers affordable cross-border communications, helping friends and families stay connected.”

Well if there changing their name once again is definitely in order to render good services to their numerous client subscriber base then we really need to commend them.But until we appraise their performance after changing their name,we will not be able to judge cause assumption is said to be the lowest form of knowledge.So I say to u all dear friends let us watch their output in areas of clarity of calls,tariff regulation.Untill then Thumbs to ya All.

When I lived in Ghana we had the same problem. My carrier went from being SpaceFon to Areeba to MTN. It was all confusing and seemed rather unnecessary. What's in a name?

Since I bought my ECONET SIM card some five years ago,I've changed phones more than seven times,yet all of the phones(including the one I'm using now) have always refused to comply with the new names and have always displayed ECONET on the screen despite their numerous name changes,so it doesn't really make any difference to me

Nice them, after changing name so frequently i was expecting it. Though i thought it should have been changed from 'sell tel' to 'Buy tel'.
Anyway, still nice. Atleast they surprised me with the choice of name.

This is confusing, I'm sure before the end of this year they will change name again, What could be there problem, I don't understand.

Its okay since they re changing their name to comply with their parent company. Besides, the new colours re cool and sweet.

All my life i've never seen this type of confused company. The more they change their name the more horrible their services are. Even their subscribers aint finding their services better yet all they can put their energy in is changing of name.

this company to me seems confused. am really pissed off and fed up  with this inconsistency of theirs. i just hope they are not taking subcribers for granted. how long will they name keep changing name tags? i just hope this will be the last. i need quality service and not all this name changes.

I'm surprised at how foreign companies have taken over the telecoms industry in Nigeria. Aside from Glo all the rest of the real players are foreign (except of course u still consider M-Tel to still be a serious player): MTN, Stacomms, Etisalat, Zain, Reltel e.t.c
