Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by akinalabi(m): 10:44pm On May 06, 2009 |
Every now and then, we bash the referees in the EPL and we are quick to conclude that English referees are crap. Watching other leagues, shocking decisions are made week in week out. Refereeing decisions were one of the highlights of the semi final UCL matches. What's gone wrong with the referees? |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by kaypumpin2(m): 10:49pm On May 06, 2009 |
I think it is part and parcel of the game. It's human nature to make mistakes and refs are one so |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by akinalabi(m): 11:00pm On May 06, 2009 |
kay_pumpin: People bash the English referees. I think its a bigger problem than that. |

They should come to ABA and try this rubbish ! |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by Sauron1: 12:02am On May 07, 2009 |
akinalabi: Em referees are human beings prone to human error. English referees get criticised more because more people watch the EPL than other European leagues. If a referee makes a wrong decision in a game involving Sunderland and Hull(we are dead cert to know about it). If another referee makes a worse decision in a game involving Osasuna and Numancia. . . .Who cares?? |

Eva since Collina retired, refereeing in European competions hv gone 4rm bad 2worse. Collina inspired referees 2make faultless decisions. 2days matches r won nd lost 2bad decisions. I tink d referee world nid anoda Collina 4inspiration. Speaking of Collina, whr is HE? |

Poor refereeing even out in a game an undeserved red card and no one is complaining why are EPL teams so classless The same way Arsenal was complaining that Lehmanns sending off was responsible for losing in Paris. Thiery had 2 good chances to bury the game at Parc de prince and later was complaining about ref. Wenger was complaining Etoo goal was laid off by Larson in an offside position Henry complained he was fouled by Barcas players Fans complained that the red card to Lehmann made them lose. Chelsea complaining about Handballs. Why didnt Chelsea players complain when Abidal was sent off and Chiellini was sent off? Chelsea should blame themselves for not wrapping the game up when they had presentable chances SHAMELESS PEOPLE Victory to the ANGLOPHOBES!!!!!! |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by honeric01(m): 3:28am On May 07, 2009 |
nothing is perfect anywhere, the ref in the center of the match between chelsea and barca is from Norway and norway is not really known for good football so we really don't know how the officiating goes overhere. People tend to watch the EPL because it's ENGLISH and the major population of the world understands english. if bad offciating is done in the la liga, those that speak spanish would really be the ones complaining (also those that just love watching good football irrespective of the language barrier). Take it or leave it, good and bad officiating is part of the game. All the same, BARCA you made me proud for not sitting back after the red card. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by dayokanu(m): 5:39am On May 07, 2009 |
Just like Jose Mourinho and Chelsea were moaning that Anders Frisk spoke to the ref in 2005. Cant English sides but moan about officiating? |

What are your comments about Drogba's attitude.I for one didnt like it.He was so indisciplined. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by FBS: 6:41am On May 07, 2009 |
they should be banned for life but again, teams should learn to finish off opponents with every opportunity they have. When they don't refs will always be blamed. They suck anyway. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by mykali(m): 7:35am On May 07, 2009 |
UEFA only knows why they left refrees from Italy, France, Germany, Russia, even African referees to go all the way to Norway to appoint a referee for such a match. The red card he issued Abidal spoilt the rest of the game because every decisive decision went against us from that moment on when he was trying to atone for his mistake. if UEFA didnt want 2 EPL teams in the final, they appointed the best ref for the match. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by tkb417(m): 8:09am On May 07, 2009 |
Poor refereeing even out in a game an undeserved red card and no one is complaining why are EPL teams so classless im lost. Is this what the OP asked? Bad decisions on the REFs part is the topic of convo. No one is talking about Chelsea or Barca. read b4 you post @Topic The 2 semis were bedevilled by very poor officiating and it goes beyond errors. Some european REFs are as worse as the heavily criticisized English REFs How do you explain the RED to Fletcher? The free kick to CR7 that led to the goal, The countless penalties that were overlooked by the REF against Chelsea and also why did the RED give a RED to Abidal. If those are not poor officiating, then somebody needs his brain checked. I guess those will pass as poor officiating when the English people are in charge but will be called human errors when thier european counterparts are blowing the whistle. Some brains need surgery!! |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by Nobody: 8:16am On May 07, 2009 |
Refereeing;poor.Agreed. But Chelsea failed to take advantage of: a)An extra man advantage for 25 good minutes. b)a weak Barca defence. That negative approach overall in 180 minutes cost Chelsea, and it's that simple. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by tkb417(m): 8:27am On May 07, 2009 |
Refereeing;poor.Agreed. thank u But Chelsea failed to take advantage of:not necessary to this topic we aint discussing chances not converted. was the REF poor? Thats the QUE |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by Nobody: 9:37am On May 07, 2009 |
tkb417: It's not an isolated case.We cannot talk about refereeing without the result.Chelsea feel agrieved because they couldn't get the job done.United did on Tuesday, that's why Fletcher's red card isn't so much of an issue. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by honeric01(m): 9:50am On May 07, 2009 |
Drogba should be ashamed of himself, with all the clear chances he threw away, disgracing africa with that ungodly manner, he should have let guss do the ranting, he wasn't even on the pitch, why didn't the english players on the field do the ranting?? now he has spoilt his name the more on european scene, remember manu chelsea last year? that ref was just too frightened to blow well lol |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by dayokanu(m): 2:21pm On May 07, 2009 |
The way TKB behaves like an illiterate is another thing Why are Man Utd players not in protest after Fletchers red card? If that decision had won Arsenal the game it would have been a point for discussion. Chelsea felt aggrieved and needed to complain because they lost |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by tkb417(m): 2:28pm On May 07, 2009 |
The way TKB behaves like an illiterate is another thingcheck ur head im not contesting why Chelsea lost. We are discussing if the REF was bad with his officiating Nobody is asking if the officiating cost them the game. simple thing was that a good officiating? Yes or NO Man UTD won the game but we all the know REF made bad calls when he sent off Fletcher and when he gave a freekick that led to the goal. We are not talking about the outcome of the matches but some of the actions taken by the REFs Despicable is the word |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by akinalabi(m): 4:23pm On May 07, 2009 |
Its not about the Chelsea Barca match and who took his chances or not. It's about shocking decisions we see week in week out. What is the way out? Videos? More assistants? Thats what this topic is all about. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by Krayola(m): 4:34pm On May 07, 2009 |
If you want to see terrible referees, come to La Liga, that is their headquarters. I think it is part and parcel of the game, It is never ALWAYS in favour of one team over another. They have a way of leveling out and overall everyone "benefits" and "suffers" from it. Somtimes it is in your favour and other times not. Chelsea can not honestly claim they have never won a game because of bad ref decisions that favoured them. Same as any other team |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by akinalabi(m): 5:21pm On May 07, 2009 |
Krayola: You're spot on. The noise is usually more about English refs. Sauron has a point about the coverage and scrutiny of the EPL being the reason. There has to be a solution to this. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by mykali(m): 8:06pm On May 07, 2009 |
i used to thinK EPL Referees were useless until yesterday. Ovrebo is total shye. for the main fact that he's from Norway wHere their league is secondary school football and for the secondary fact that the modafucka is a PSYCHOLOGIST !!! WHO WAS HE PLAYING HIS ''MIND GAMES'' ON WHEN HE REFUSED TO AWARD THOSE PENALTIES. DID HE THINK HE WAS HAVING A FUCKN SESSION WITH LUNATICS ON THE PITCH |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by tkb417(m): 8:30pm On May 07, 2009 |
If you want to see terrible referees, come to La Liga, that is their headquarters.i agree cant remember the game this season where Barca almost lost a game and the REF added more than 5 mins and also gave a penalty to Barca in the added minutes. the stadium nearly went up in flames in the ensuing fiasco! such things dont happen in the epl and you hear undiluted bollocks from the Chief resident ninnies as to how the epl REFs are shitty everyday. If it was Rob Syles that committed the blunders yesterday, Hell would have been brought down |

Simple: Video Replays If not, the men in the middle will soon become more famous than the players themselves Growing up, I didn't know names of reefereeswetin concern me? Now I know so many and even check out who will be the referee when my favourite team is playing Ovrebo ko, Orobo ni Nonsense |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by akinalabi(m): 11:59pm On May 07, 2009 |
I think the game is getting too big and too serious to allow part time referees to handle them alone. Assistant referees should get more involved with the use of technology. |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by honeric01(m): 2:18am On May 08, 2009 |
At least, they don't give 3 yellow cards in a match in the la liga |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by tkb417(m): 8:16am On May 08, 2009 |
At least, they don't give 3 yellow cards in a match in the la liga na u sabi. na the only thing u fit talk be dat hater |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by honeric01(m): 8:28am On May 08, 2009 |
tkb417: Isn't it true? They also don't forget a LovePeddler's pant in their pocket. They also don't forget to come to officiate without having an extra yellow card in their pocket By the way, they also don't only give red for hand balls |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by Emperoh(m): 2:57pm On May 08, 2009 |
I think the FA should have red and yellow card for referees should they begin to mess up a match. This is also a good case for the introduction of the video technology!! |
Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by Nobody: 4:31pm On May 08, 2009 |
One cannot rule out human nature. Refs may have inner admiration or dislike for a team. Imagine assigning a ref to a team he dislikes, human nature may distort professionalism. Again, if a team is superb and takes its chances, there is little the ref can do to cheat them out. |
