Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by Nobody: 8:45am On May 25, 2005
What are your thoughts?

Does anyone have anything to say on Kalu being a suitable Presidential candidate?

The welcome message on Governor Orji Kalu's website reads:
[list][li]"I am running for President to give Nigerian voters a progressive choice. We can build a just, safe and stable world for our children and grandchildren, based on our Party principles. I want to invite you to support my candidacy, Orji Kalu, as your president for 2007. I pledge to you that a vote for me is a vote that will help restore Nigeria to its lost glory.[/li][li][/li][/list]

The guy is ok as a governor, but as a president,NO! He courts controversy and well I consider him a little too brash! undecided

I say ABB for president (anybody but Babangida).
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by drbigdaddyg(m): 2:23pm On Aug 19, 2005
@Allenpower, I don't care whether he is too young to be a president, but, what I am after is someone who can restore the image of this country, who can make Nigeria a better place, who knows how much the people of this country are suffering, therefore is coming to alleviate the plight in this country.
If Orji Uzor, can give us all we want, I'll be okay with him.
I know he is capable of working things out for this country, if considered from the impact he has created in Abia State. So let's ride in support for him.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by drbigdaddyg(m): 3:36pm On Aug 19, 2005
I have Orji Uzor Kalu as my choice 'because of some positive changes he has created in his rule in Abia State.
1. proving unity by demonstrating that christains and moslems are brothers and sisters. In one of his posters, I saw him wearing moslem robe.
2. Proving he is coming to bring development in Nigeria by the impact he has been able to creat in his rule Nigeria
3. Proving he has the knowledge to rule even the world by his involvements in making peace among tribes, villages, countries and lots more.
4. He has proven that he is kind-hearted by so many helps he has rendered to the needy in  Nigeria.
5. We know that "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh", variably, he has made so many promises which he will accomplish if voted for presidency 2007.
6. He has proven that he is a dynamic leader. He has touched  many areas for instance, in the development of infrastructure like free medical care, free education in Abia State, even in football excerpt; leading Enyimba Football Association to her great height. Just imagine! I have mentioned only few.

I don't know of other's acheivements so, I would want you to tell me your choice, mentioning some of his acheivements that should co-erce us into supporting him. What we want is better Nigeria

Please tell me the truth......... ..How much Nda Orji Kalu pay you?
If You no tell me the truth now, You go naked baff [bath] for bathroom very soon.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by Greatpeter(m): 8:55pm On Aug 19, 2005
Thanks pinto.
Dybigsdaddyg it's a pity that this comes from you.

That Orji put on Muslim atire so to say does not mean he's preaching unity amongst Christians and Muslim. All is politics.

As if you don't know Nigeria politics. PDP will never give him the tickets under the party when Anini is still much in control in PDP.

What about bad roads in Aba. Have you gone to Aba of the recent?

Try and get Ariara market with mercedes benz car and see how sweet it is.

Talk another thing sir.
Don't sell lie to us we are not blind and deaf.
Go to other forum not Nairaland here.
Intelligent people are here oo.

Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by ndubuchi(m): 6:06pm On Nov 01, 2005
I really believe that Orji Uzor Kalu will make a good president. In fact, he his going to be the best president ever known in the history of Nigeria .let us forget about age, leadership is all about wisdom not age. He is a business man that is what Nigeria need so the can bet with order strong nations in this world.

I was born in new York city and that is where I grew up every body here that follows African or Nigeria politics will tell you that if Nigerians are wise the should vote Orji Uzor Kalu come 2007. What I have just said is what my history teacher told me .and so funny he is a white man he already new who Orji Uzor kalu. So what I want to say is that let Nigerians stop to think timidly
and step up and move to positive direction. For example President Clinton became the president of united state at his 40s so why can we have a young and youthful president.

For me here in United State I will do all I can to support him. And definitely he will be the next president.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by omon(m): 7:09pm On Nov 01, 2005
Na who be all these people? Who be Orji kalu? That guy that cannot even express himself properly... Have you listened to him properly and try to make sense of what he says?... Please we don't want such politicians anymore come 2007. We want a dynamic leader which Kalu does not suit. Of all that Dybigdaddyg listed, there was no tangible thing you can hold on to that he has done for his people. Abia is as dirty as Lagos and directionless as Edo..
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by ndubuchi(m): 8:00pm On Nov 01, 2005
You all in nigeria dont know how disgraceful it is to call your self a Nigerian this days most especially when we out here say that where from Nigeria people don’t want to come closer to us due to the bad image the past military generals imposed on us .and we Nigerian we still respect them still like what ever the are doing. Despite all the ugly things the have done to this young nation.

As funny as it is, if the come out any time and say that the are running for president we come to vote the same bad blood into the government. Orji Uzor Kalu is the only presidential hopeful that can spend 1$ for 2$ this is the kind of president Nigeria need. For example Babangida, Marwa, Obasanjo, Atiku, etc they know how to spend money but they don’t know how to get it back. This people caused so much damage to this country that even the American are saying it is going take somebody like Orji Kalu to make Nigeria a grate country again. As long as I know he is rich: he owns a multimillion dollar business here in America he is already made before becoming a governor.

Who Forbes magazine listed as one of the young richest Nigerian with a neat 750 billion naira. He will help this country in business, economy, health, etc so I and all my fellow Nigerians here in united state will give our support to him come 2007. He knows smart ways to balance the economy his aggressive when it comes to achievement. To all Nigerians we should forget about all this old [politicians] and go for real thing we are tired of same bull-shit all countries have there airways where is Nigerian air ways, even the poorest nation if not Nigeria have good railway service. Where is Nigerian rail way service. It is only Nigeria that uses Boeing 727 for airline transport which has been banned not to use by all nation of the world while Nigerians are still using it.

This is the value that Orji Uzor Kalu wants to bring up. But Nigerian we love negativity that is what is kill you all. South Africa has taken our position in the face of Africa but back then we where helping them but now they are helping us. Orji is a right choice for this nation I am strongly behind him and he will make us proud not all this [other politicians] who think the can do what ever the want with this country the are luck the are not American because the should have been spending there last days in jail.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by drbigdaddyg(m): 4:07pm On Nov 03, 2005
Thank you very much Ndubuchi.
Our problem is inability to comprehend things. Maybe, we look at how this governor spends money, we don't reason on why this same governor still pay up salary, meet up with what is required of him. Nigeria needs some one who has acumen; one who knows how to make $2 out of $1. This is what our past leaders lacked which consequently has landed us in economical devaluation; a situation where our leaders could not set up something useful in the country with the little money left after their satisfaction. Since we know everybody in Nigeria cannot live without acquiring wealth, it becomes necessary, voting someone who can do (achieve) something from little left. In this area, I commend Orji Kalu greatly because, instead of bagging the money like others do, he'll rather decide fixing it and might keep the interest to himself.

GreatPeter, I hope you must have understood what I mean. I have only used what I said as an instance to demonstrate someone who can keep the country growing economical while he still eats from the cake (National cake). If we are looking for some who'll account 50:50 in his tenure, I'll advice we wake up from our dreams. You self cannot help it.

Orji Kalu also has acquired enough wealth, therefore I don't foresee anything that'll make him not to fulfill his desire (being the best leader) as he wants to disprove people who think we cannot have president who can develop the country.

I will also want to point out clearly what Nigeria wants which this young man has. This is business-minded man, someone who can improve the economy with the best strategy, and not the issue of having poor economy despite being the richest in Africa. Orji Kalu can lift us in this area, not all these military-blooded men who all they'll do is to autocracize (autocracy) us, pushing our money into foriegn accounts. This man being young knows he still has many years to make money, hence, will prefer honesty to making bad name at his (tender) age. Let us reason well!!!
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by omon(m): 7:04pm On Nov 03, 2005
What line of business does he do in the USA and what is the value of his business in Nigeria (if he has any)? I cannot vote for someone who does not have faith in his country to invest.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by ndubuchi(m): 11:48pm On Nov 03, 2005
OMOM ,I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT OF VIEW WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT ORJI UZOR KALU INVESTING ABROAD DONT FORGET THAT HE MADE HIS MONEY IN ABA RIGHT THERE IN NIGERIA. HIS BUSINESS HERE IN UNITED STATE IS REAL ESTATE AND OIL BUSINESS .

DO YOU KNOW WHY AMERICA IS STILL STRONG, THE HAVE SPEND 100 BILLION DOLLAS ONLY IN IRAQ NOT TO TALK OF AFGANISTAN .BECAUSE GEORGE BUSH IS A BUSINESS MAN HE KNOWS HOW TO MAKE A DOLLAR FOR 2 .FOR ORJI UZOR KALU ,HE IS WELL CONNECTED TO TOP LEADERS IN BUSINESS INCLUDING BUSH,SOROS,TRUMB,BLUMBORG,
AND SO ON.
HIS BUSINESS IN NIGERIA ALONE I AM TALKING SLOK GRUOP OF COMPANIES IS OVER 200 BILLION NAIRA YOU CAN ASK google.com IF ARE TELLING ME THAT ORJI KALU CAN NOT SPEAK WELL IN PUBLIC, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT UGLY ASS MUR@#$%KER YOU CALL YOUR PRESIDENT I AM NOT TRYING TO CHANGE YOUR MIND BUT FOR YOU GUYS OVER THERE TO BE HAPPY AGAIN VOTE FOR ORJI .I AM GOOD I DONT CARE I JUST WANNA TELL YOU THE FACT .IF NIGERIA CAN FIND SOME ONE WHO DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO PRESENT HIS SALF IN GOOD ENGLISH BUT HE WILL DO THE RIGHT THING FOR NIGERIA F@#K IT WHO CARES YOU VOTE HIM IN .THE OLD G,S THAT HAVE RULED THAT NIGERIA THE KNOW HOW TO SPEAK IN ENGLISH AT THE END WHAT HAPPEN THE F@#K YOU GUYZ UP BIG TYME TOOK ALL $ AND BECOME RICH.STILL YOU DUDES STILL LIKE THEM WELL DUDE THINK ABOUT AND KNOW WHAT YOU GONNA DO FOR ME AM OUT.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by drbigdaddyg(m): 8:53am On Nov 04, 2005
Ndubuchi, thank you jorr.
It has been long I learnt to hate IGNORANCE. I am a diplomat and reason very well in things. I would not have supported this youngman if I had foreseen problems that'll come out in future.

I'll repeat that Nigeria needs business-minded leader as our problems are based on our economy. Forget about education this time, we all know the importance and can improve in it when we have gotten standard economy. Otherwise, how can a poor man be educated? It is when you've gotten the cash that you can go for the best education. Let us reason well!!!
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by whiteshark(m): 8:56am On Nov 04, 2005
Big joke, please stop it now.... even if we need a business minded person as our leader, not someone like Kalu, not now
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by drbigdaddyg(m): 9:07am On Nov 04, 2005
Anyways, everyone has his choice. Go ahead and vote your Babangida or, Atiku. But, by the time you people must have suffered well in the rampaging drop-outs as a result of poor economy. Or have you forgotten how all these leaders bagged all the money to Switz Bank, or do you feel they are going to be better this time?
For crying out loud, this people don't believe in achievement, they are individually stronger than Nigeria and therefore believe they'll commit all their crimes and come out free. Don't doubt me the first thing they'll do is to dissolve EFCC so as to give their business free way.
Well, if you want give them another chance. No qualms. After all, I am comfortable.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by omon(m): 2:51pm On Nov 04, 2005
You guys should stop this rubbish! I will 1000 times for Wale Tinubu, Mike Adenuga, Dangote, Pat Utomi, Jim Ovia etc, than Kalu, he is not marketable, you guys are just wasting your time. As a governor, he has not done well. Tell me of a prime project he is undertaking in his state. Abia used to be known for small scale entreprenueurs, Kalu could have used that as an advantage to advance the AGOA programme in his state. If he has so much connection in the USA, he is definitely not using it to his advantage at home.

There should have been prime projects in Abia to promote entreprenuership, just as you see prime projects in Cross rivers, Kwara, Jigawa and Lagos.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by drbigdaddyg(m): 9:22am On Nov 05, 2005
I become amazed when you people compare Abia with states like Lagos, Crossriver etc. Have you forgotten that Abia is a very young state that lack basic attractions which Orji individually cannot install? Lagos and Crossriver have been capitals of Nigeria, they have airports which attract foreign investors and location of industries. Or, do I ask the secret behind the establishment of National Stadiums in states like Lagos, Crossriver, Enugu, Abuja, Kano and others? Do you think it can be sited in states without airports?

Let me also let you people know that Rome was not built in one day. Abia state has been in the hands of military governors; people that are non-Abia indigens and therefore was not after its development. It was after Orji took over that we could ply on good roads; roads that even lead into interiors villages. All these military governors had only gathered heaps of sand (not even gravel) which as rainy seasons emerged, flushed those sands away. You can attest to the improvement in Abia State by just going to villages there.

Forget about all those states you people are talking of that have long been developed even before Tinubu and other governors came into power. Calabar has been what it is before Duke took, so it can never for any reason been compared to a still-developing Abia.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by smoothjazz(m): 11:42am On Nov 06, 2005
These people touting Orji Uzor Kalu for president should stop insulting our intelligence. I'm tired of Nigerians behaving as if we are bankrupt on qualified leaders. His background as a businessman is fraught with questionable practices, and I will not for a fleeting moment consider him as being "successful", hence his failure as a governor. I mean where does he stand on the scale of distinction when compared to the Ovias, Iwealas, Adenugas of our country?
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by chum(m): 3:23pm On Nov 07, 2005

You no something, the last time when i was coming back from ABA somebody told me

Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by bani(m): 9:19am On Nov 29, 2005
right you all have your points on orji uzo but i have to advice you to do an on the spot analysis before u make comments.
im from abia state, i decided to pay a visit to aba which i havent done in years. and my brother its not an experience i would wish someone who has lived ina civilized environment (even lagos standards).
i didnt see a a straight stretch of good road, the main road entering aba from owerri/umuahia, is a complete write off, i went with a friends car, we had to look for detours cos the road wasnt motorable, the same is the axis from portharcourt. within the metropolis in aba there isnt a good road i can pin to orji's govt. (but i would commend him on some of the roads in umuahia which seem to be his main concentration).
and the issue of taxation in aba which obviously the govt is involved in is horrible. my friend who just built a house was told to pay sanitaion, housing, gate building, borehole sinking...taxes, we decided to take the case up, and we were shown 24 different taxes we are meant to pay(i would pay if there were returns on them). my dad who hardly stays in his house in an interior village was told to pay tax on his house, the light in the village was community effort so was the grading (not tarring) of the roads.
the filth on aba roads in comparism with lagos state, makes lagos a 'hospital'.
...let me break it here..
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by bani(m): 9:26am On Nov 29, 2005
continued.....
i would have expected that with orji's wealth and 'business experience' abia state state would have been a boisterous business state by now.
i have to give it to orji though for his ability to unite the muslims and christains, and also for his transparency in declaring his assets and govt expenditure (certain issues taint this like the issue of grants which werent implemented).
another grouse i have against him is his ability to generate issues with individuals, right now we need someone who is cool headed to run this country, we want to turn this country around but anyone who has to do it cannot just enforce plans to do it, cos certain concessions have to b granted to some 'individuals' its going to be a gradual process. knowing orji for his attitude he would want to get his way in all issues which could lead to ethnic or sectranal problems.
well thats my whole view...
bottom line im not really comfortable with orji's candidature
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by kelvin(m): 4:18pm On Nov 29, 2005
Being a president is much difficult than it seems. Kalu being right for the presidency is not the big question, but whoever wants to be the president should have the welfare of Nigerians in mind and not the aim of filling his pockets... I think Kalu would be good for 2007, but it would be nice if women pay a little more attention to politics, it will at least ease the autocracy... shown by most leaders...
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by prettyH(f): 6:52pm On Nov 29, 2005
It is sad that intellectual on this thread are supporting orji..whatever because of his wealth. When will Nigerians sop been sycophants. It is so typical of us to support pple even when we know they will nt be beneficial to our predicament. Ndubuchi, as far as am concerned, ur point is made on the basis of kalu being an Ibo man. Simple. What if it was say a Yoruba man or even Delta that they say was in Forbes as been rich and intended to run for candidacy, will u still be as opinionated as this.. Think about it.

Further, are u saying connections do not matter or what? I tend to be confused cos Bush' reign in the US is based on high powered connections laid down by his dad. So connections does matter in leading a country like ours especially if we want to be accepted. Do not forget, truth be told, Nigeria has been portrayed negatively and a good president would at least lessen our bad publicity. I do not think Orji can do that. See if orji was dat good, how come his state is still as underdeveloped as ever.

So what if he gives free education at both primary and whatever levels? See let me tell u its not the quantity but the quality of education . I find it disheartening that u don't know the Nigerian mentality yet. How do u know he wasn't doing all that just to buy votes for his presidential campain? U talk about sports..who cares if he is sponsoring local sports in his state..will that make Nigeria better? U've emphasized ur point on what he is doing in his state but thats for his people abi..Will he be so generous if he becomes the president not forgetting that Nigeria consists of various tribes and not the Ibo's alone

U talk bout leadership been bout wisdom.. no one disputes dat, orji Kalu is not the wisest ..thats for sure. Even if Orji becomes the president, do not be deceived, he will tow the lines of his predecessors who have done no better than rip us off.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by tayelolu(m): 12:21am On Nov 30, 2005
While Orji Kalu has the intellectual capacity to run the country, MASSOB remains a stumbling block of Igbo presidency in the forthcoming elections. For Orji Kalu to stand a chance he has to distance himself from radical separatist groups like MASSOB. Groups like MASSOB reminds Nigerians (at least non-Igbos) of biafra.

Good point; thanks for sharing.
Re: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by drbigdaddyg(m): 2:09pm On Nov 30, 2005
Well, PrettyH, I'll reasonably disagree with you in some areas:
I know Hausa and Yoruba ethnicities have been ruling as presidents, yet, they have been the cause of problems in Nigeria- as in, frauds of Nigerian money (u can ask Abacha, Obj, Abubakah, Babangi...). In fact, the only Igbo man who was given an opportunity (Aguiyi Ironsi) was killed for his generousity and fairness while trying to be free with all the ethnic groups. We have given Hausa and Yoruba chances to demonstrate their capabilities in handling the countries money, yet, Nigeria remains undeveloped. Don't you think we should try some other person who have the capabilities? At this juncture, I would suggest you give me names you would prefer.
Orji Kalu have been tried on the basis of "business-mindness", "Political balance", "religious fairness" and "mentality". You can view these areas from our previous posts in this trend.
You mentioned of our bad image and one who'll eradicate it? Who were those people who stained the image? Maybe, those you considered educated and capable? They should have with all their wisdom led this country to a great height, now, you are still looking for more of them!!!! I have told you guyz that we have decieved ourselves enough with all our logics, this is a time we give the mantle to a very rich youngman who has more time to make more money; therefore wouldn't prefer getting a bad name at this tender age so that he would be elected in some other parastatals of the country.
You talked of what sports has to do with the country's development: I would ask you to go to sports analysts and ask them. You can ask them one the major contributions to development in Brazil/England. My dear, better put your child or ward in that area because it'll land you on silver base forever.
Talking of quality of education, I want to tell you that Abia State boost of bright candidates in schools. We are not educational less previledged state like some of the states that are outstanding. So, don't even use school as a point.
Nobody is saying Orji is the wisest but, we are saying we want a stop to our problems hence, analysing in diplomacy, what the individual aspirants can do with their position. You rightly said we are poor, BUT NOT THE POOREST. To whom much is given, much is expected, I know we are not given all that is given to other states yet, we are getting developed faster.
Please, let us not confuse ourselves with our individual/selfish ambition- all those that fraud our country are old men, they therefore say, they afterall have few days to stay and should loot now or never. What would a very youngman like Orji do with the trillions found in Abacha's possession? He still has years to leave in politics and would be given a good nud by the masses if he rules well in maybe the 6yrs (just exagerating).
Lets reason very well.

Honestly guys, i really don't care who rules Nigeria, believe me As far as i'm concerned, anyone can but personally, i don't think they'll be better than their predecessors- be the person young or old.

Well prettyH,i just wanna tell you that not because i am ibo that,s why i want orji kalu to be president . dont get me wrong .there is this saying that say,s that seeing is beliving i based my trust with facts. orji kalu will be the best thing that will happen to nigeria.i said it and REV JESSY JACKSON said it too here in united state. to comesay if i am a yoruba if i will still support kalu well. i am i am not like that i grew up in a country where there is white, black, hispanic, chinese ,indians and every body dont discreminate as nigeria do so the point that i am trying to make is that i support kalu not because of his money but with the point he made when you compare him with orther politicians.in nigeria.

and to all ya who is saying that if orji kalu is good why aba is not a neat place to live to be honest i have been to aba in 2000 when i came to nigeria with my mom .is ok but right now i dont know how it is now but, i m gonna tell you sometin about abia state that i know. abia is one of the poorest state in nigeria and the goverment yearly alocation to the state is nothing to compare to other state. still kalu as a governor keep trying to make sure that abia state is allways first in the scem of things .and as funny as it is ,i here some people comparing lagos that have been in a existance since 1850 to abia state that was created 1991 turn it round is compliment.well common, lets check it abia as poor as it is the still compare it with a city that have been more than 200 years old so called lagos. well i am trying to bring some of my folks into this website and the gonna look into our values and infact join us .

still ndubuchi
holla.
