I'm not too sure about the report to moderator button which only seems to function depending on the whim of the moderator and admin.

So bring any post or thread you find offensive here and let the moderator involved give their reasons why they feel you are wrong for reporting it.

and vice versa.

For example, a certain mugsmasher made death threats against another nairalander's child yet the admin did nothing about it and he or she is still free to post at will.

Likewise, a certain aloy emeka opened a thread to abuse others including myself yet when a similar thread was opened for him, the moderator made me understand my  thread is haram while aloy emeka's is kosher.

In similar vein, platinumk was on a rampage yesterday accusing me of using Igbo on a thread. Her Igbo brother did the same but she had nothing to say about that.

Miichelin, another moderator, is quite fond of starting threads to attack others, she uses very disgusting language and insults to attack people on the basis of their tribes, but for some reason, she's celebrated on NL by her peers.

We also have a moderator who is fond of badmouthing a state yet he goes haywire when his own state is mentioned in a non-complimentary manner.

Its not about justice or injustice

there's no empirical definition of justice in the Nigerian and Nairaland context, so its a word to be avoided here.

to many Nigerians and NLers, justice only means mob lynching. They're unaware of any other usage of the word and will get more confused with any attempt at explanation.

Nairaland is first and foremost, and solely an AUTOCRACY.
An extremist autocracy. The perfect dictatorship.
The dictator and his soldiers are working under the perfect system.
Re: Report Offensive Posts And Threads Here by MyHonour(m): 11:30pm On Dec 29, 2009
Nairaland is solely a bureaucracy. There are roles for everyone, yes, even the spammers and the trouble-makers.
Everyone have their responsibilities. Or i gat it mixed up?

@tpia, since when did you become a moderator?

I'm not too sure about the report to moderator button which only seems to function depending on the whim of the moderator and admin.

It works, you only have to use it. Instead of saying what the admin/mods do or do not do, simply report to mod, if the post you reported was not acted upon then you can complain.

For example, a certain mugsmasher made death threats against another nairalander's child yet the admin did nothing about it and he or she is still free to post at will.
what thread's that?

Likewise, a certain aloy emeka opened a thread to abuse others including myself yet when a similar thread was opened for him, the moderator made me understand my  thread is haram while aloy emeka's is kosher.

what thread is that? where is the link?

In similar vein, platinumk was on a rampage yesterday accusing me of using Igbo on a thread. Her Igbo brother did the same but she had nothing to say about that.
Did you at any point , reported her to the mod and your report was not processed?

Miichelin, another moderator, is quite fond of starting threads to attack others, she uses very disgusting language and insults to attack people on the basis of their tribes, but for some reason, she's celebrated on NL by her peers.
where are the links?
We also have a moderator who is fond of badmouthing a state yet he goes haywire when his own state is mentioned in a non-complimentary manner.
can you name the mod?

I'll really appreciate if you'll make your posts with the necessary links, just saying a thread or that a user did this/that is not helping anyone and you are not saying anything.

Most times i just happen to see some posts , and people do not report, i end up having to warn them and lock the thread. Mods are also human and cant be everywhere at the same time, help the mod by reporting when you are being attacked directly or indirectly, or you see anyone going against the rules of the forum.
Re: Report Offensive Posts And Threads Here by MyHonour(m): 11:54pm On Dec 29, 2009
It is time to start producing evidence. Now that mugsmasher, i saw that somewhere, but i was not abused, so lemme kip shut and watch.
Re: Report Offensive Posts And Threads Here by debosky(m): 12:02am On Dec 30, 2009
Absolute rubbish - Tpia has been insulted in a number of threads, and when reported I have personally cleaned out insults against her person.

It's easy to cast aspersions on mods but not provide any proof.

tpia.:

Likewise, a certain aloy emeka opened a thread to abuse others including myself yet when a similar thread was opened for him, the moderator made me understand my  thread is haram while aloy emeka's is kosher.

What are you going on about? Can you quote my posts on the threads in question? I dislike people who like to twist things to suit their motives. I clearly stated that your thread was REPORTED, that is why it came to my attention - is your thread locked? NO - Quote my last post on the thread - this is what it says:

debosky:

This is very simple - you've created a thread in response to one done by Aloy - both stand as long as the posters regard it as humorous. However, if it degenerates into fights, it'll be dealt with.

Nothing more - enjoy your thread.

Come and make more outlandish claims - I am waiting.

For example, a certain mugsmasher made death threats against another nairalander's child yet the admin did nothing about it and he or she is still free to post at will.

When and where was this post? Was it reported? Some deluded individuals feel mods are on each and every thread watching each and every post - why can't you follow simple instructions and report the post?

In similar vein, platinumk was on a rampage yesterday accusing me of using Igbo on a thread. Her Igbo brother did the same but she had nothing to say about that.

Who is the mod involved in this case - or are mods supposed to side with you simply because you have an argument?

We also have a moderator who is fond of badmouthing a state yet he goes haywire when his own state is mentioned in a non-complimentary manner.

Bad mouthing a state? If it is under the tribalism section, it is fair game. Again, use the report to the moderator button when needed.

Finally, there is no use reporting a post and simply typing 'reported' - what does that mean? Is it too hard to follow the simple instructions?

Use this function to inform the moderators and administrators of an abusive or wrongly posted message. Use it to REPORT offensive posts ONLY.

Simply typing 'reported' does not help. State what is wrong with the post - is it insulting? Is it spam? Is it nude images? Be specific.

Mehn, this thread is getting really hot. tpia, na wa for you self. Whenever i use the report button, the mods - debosky and iice mostly act on it - bcause i will tell them wetin happen not just *reported*.

[s]Suggestion: maybe we should make the report button send an sms to the mods instead of p.m[/s]

no offtopics plz!!!

make una carry una romance elsewhere.

This thread is for offensive posts to be brought to the mods attention.

@ mukina

the posts and threads in question are elsewhere on the forum. Mugsmasher made another threat today in romance which I've reported again.

Debosky had some interaction today and informed me my own thread was haram because i was ostensibly insulting others but at the same time aloy emeka's thread which he opened to insult me, was kosher.  Threads are in racism and tribalism section.

Platinumk jumped on a post of mine yesterday because an Igbo Nler insulted me in Igbo and I replied in the same language. She ignored the aggressor and jumped on me instead.

Michelin is well known to most NLers and yes, she uses very uncouth and disgusting language (ie hate speech in every sense of the word) to attack other tribes for her personal reasons.

Do people actually use the 'report to moderator' button??

If yes, how effective is it??

I'm one of those who'd rather trash out whatever differences I have with anyone and keep it moving.
I do not give a flying mess if they get hurt and how long the hurt lasts.

Although, i've never used the 'report to moderator' option/button (and I have no intention of doing so) it is obvious the mods only swing into action when their chums call for help or are getting mullered.

talk about what you know.
Must you make accusations to prove a point? that's if you have any?

The report to mod button works , lots of people use it, if you chose not to, i hope you wont create a thread to complain when you are being attacked  and no mods sees it.

If after my posts you still hold this opinion, I have no choice but to conclude that English comprehension is your problem. Aloy's thread was not reported, and even when it was, all that was put in the report was 'reported' - what does that mean? You lot go about calling yourselves names so how am I supposed to determine whether it is humorous or not? Your thread didn't get locked till the insults became unduly personal.

As always, USE the report to moderator button and give a concise description of what is offensive about the post. If you are incapable of doing that, don't bother.

Platinumk jumped on a post of mine yesterday because an Igbo Nler insulted me in Igbo and I replied in the same language. She ignored the aggressor and jumped on me instead. [

Why did you reply in the same language? Does one violation justify another violation? You were wrong, regardless of whether the initial person offended or not. Again, what does this have to do with moderators? Is Platinumk a moderator? Did you report the offending posts and not get a reply?

The sheer number of reports we deal with daily are a testament to the effectiveness of the method. If you choose not to use the tool, don't complain about it's effectiveness. Your 'opinion' is simply that and not based in reality.

I'd hate to go looking for threads and posts to prove my point.
There are wayyy too many of them.

But hey, If you claim you really do not see those threads and posts then fair enough.
Although it beggars belief how some threads and posts get locked, yanked off and deleted with speed faster than light.

Psssh. . . . .oh well.

Creating threads to complain is not my thing. However, I do not shirk anyone who wants to throw darts.

Tpia doesn't look and/or sound like a bud.
No??

Oh no, the sheer number of reports you receive is as a result of people who do not know how to deal with defaulting members. Once they get wind of how 'effective' it is then you'd notice a change in their approach.

How do you know this? Are you somehow privy to what is reported and how they are dealt with? Your presumptive attitude is quite surprising. Somehow in your little head you know how and why the thousands of nairaland members report posts without evidence. Brilliant I tell you.

I believe the reason for this thread is to bring to the fore what (maybe) you and your colleagues fail to see and act upon.

I do not need to know what is reported to decipher how they are dealt with.
A skim through a recent thread between a few people (not calling names) will give you the answer. A member asked a MOD for a favour which was supposed to be confidential and guess what, the member got his/her favour. Mind you this has happened on countless occasions.

By no means do I want you to believe I am supporting Tpia. However, I agree with Tpia’s comments even though she’s prolly on par as those she made reference to.

Anyways Debosky, lets drop this chit chat. It’s obvious we will never agree on this matter.

I must say though you are about the only sane MOD around but that is not to say you do not have your moments.
