Interesting, the world's top 4 seeds will make it thru to the semi final. Anyone have an idea when this has happened before?
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 1:45pm On Apr 26, 2008
Nadal is such a lovable character.

Monte Carlo semis - Nadal up 6-3, 2-1 against Davydenko.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 2:56pm On Apr 26, 2008
Nadal dismisses Davydenko 6-3, 6-2.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by dinozzo(m): 3:14pm On Apr 26, 2008
Awesome, I expected that. Federer leading Djokovic 3-2 in the first set.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by FOD(m): 4:02pm On Apr 26, 2008
. . . and the Djoker had to take the easy way out. What a pity!

Anyways, it's another Nadal - Federer final on clay!!!  It's been along time we had something like this.

Cincinatti masters, 1999. Sampras, Rafter, Agassi, Kafelnikov.

I haven't been watching much Tennis lately.

Is Federer getting back to some form.

It would be ironic if in this most torrid of years for him, he should finally get a title at Roland Garros

my thoughts exactly. He's hired Higueras, seems really intent on breaking the clay jinx and has really improved with time, esp after his match with Nalbandian.
However, king Nadal doesn't seem to be losing any steam. We'll keep our eyes open, fingers crossed.

down a set, down a break, already called a medical time out. It was the reasonable thing to do. He lives to fight another day eh.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by doyin13(m): 4:19pm On Apr 26, 2008
I really do hope he does win a French.

I wouldn't want him to be classed with Sampras, with their ability to win all the slams but clay

His game has a lot more to it than the serve and volley rubbish Sampras made us watch through the 90's angry angry angry angry angry angry
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 4:23pm On Apr 26, 2008
I'd be honest, Sampras' reign ws due more to the lack of competition than his own percieved greatness.
Imagine if Sampras had to deal with Djokovic, Ferrer, Nalbandian, Davydenko . . . hard and flat forehands . . . he'd be ground to dust.

I'd rather Nadal continued his dominance on clay.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 4:00pm On Apr 27, 2008
The king of Clay does it again. This man is indestructible on the red dirt.

beats Federer 7-5, 7-5 despite trailing 0-4 in the second set.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 9:40pm On Apr 27, 2008
R Nadal is indeed the king of clay.

for the first time in an ATP Masters Series tournament (since 1990), a single player has won both the singles and doubles titles.

Singles Final / Simples finale
[2] R Nadal (ESP) d [1] R Federer (SUI) 75 75

Doubles Final / Doubles finale
R Nadal (ESP) / T Robredo (ESP) d [4] M Bhupathi (IND) / M Knowles 63 63

wow!
Henin just retired from tennis! shocked
kindaa unexpected!
thou i dont like her much since she dey mess with my chicks, i will surely miss her sad
she and serena had this rivary that reminds you of Chelsea n ManU
guess this season hadnt been her season at all. . . . .
wld hv loved to see her play in FO or Italian Open at least sad
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by FOD(m): 5:43pm On May 14, 2008
viee:

Their rivalry was more like Man Utd n Arsenal.

It's a pity the most skillful, talented, enjoyable female player to watch has retired.

She said she wasn't feeling the game anymore since her career is being driven by emotion, she decided to quit. Who else will I watch?  sad. I hope she comes back in the nearest future when she finds that "emotion".

I just hope Fed does follow that line.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 5:47pm On May 14, 2008
Henin wont be missed at all . . .
it makes female tennis a bit boring when top players quit at the very top of their game for no reason. First it was Kim Clijsters now Henin, Sharapova will become world number for doing nothing at all.
By the look of things Mauresmo will be off soon, Venus will follow closely and we'll be left with the Russian mafia.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by FOD(m): 5:57pm On May 14, 2008
The other players play alike, thus making it boring without her.

IMO, Mauresmo is still in it just for the money, because I see no reason why she's still going about embarassing herself. Who could have imagined she'd be in this state two years ago. Perhaps, that's one of the reasons Henin quit so early.

den itz no rivalry since we already knw who is beta grin

4 Him:

Henin wont be missed at all . . .

why do u say dat?
she is surely one of the best female tennis players and the first to retire as world no 1
even IMO the best on clay, with the French Open ard, she wld have been tipped for glory
she is just one player that you cant ignore, her run last year was just amazing
esp taking into consideratn the personal issues she went thru
so i really think she will be missed . . . .

Amelia, i expected to tow the line
but Venus still have the will IMO
Davenport is still playn good tennis afterrall . . . . . .

Last season Arsenal beat Man Utd when they met. But this just-concluded season, Man Utd had the upper hand.

Now compare this with Henin and Serena.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by FOD(m): 7:46pm On May 15, 2008
Tributes pour in for retired Henin

ROGER FEDERER (Switzerland), men's world number one: "It's obviously a shock for the tennis world. It's a particular surprise before Roland Garros and Wimbledon, which she's never won.

"It's quite surprising and unfortunate that she's out of the game but she will have her reasons.

"She is a special player because she can play on any surface and it's remarkable that she's won so many tournaments because she is small and the tall players coming in now have an advantage.

"I couldn't imagine deciding out of the blue to retire, especially if I was number one. I would prefer to take a year off if it was all getting too much for me, rather than saying straight out that I'm not going to go on."

MARIA SHARAPOVA (Russia), women's world number two behind Henin: "She's 25 years old and she's achieved so much in her career. If I was 25 and I'd won so many grand slams I'd quit too.

"Without being the strongest or the biggest, she's won so much. She's an inspiration. There's so many things to life and I'm sure she wants to explore them. I definitely don't blame her for retiring."

VENUS WILLIAMS (U.S.): "She was a great opponent. She always challenged herself to play her best tennis, no matter what the circumstances. A real fighter."

SERENA WILLIAMS (U.S.): "She was a great champion and she gave me a world of trouble, so I hope the best for her. What can you say about such a great champion? I don't think we have enough time."

JELENA JANKOVIC (Serbia): "I was very surprised by her retirement because she's doing very well and she's still young. She's great for the game.

"It can sometimes be very difficult, many years playing and travelling around the world. Being there, being at the top, can be very difficult. We will miss her."

ANA IVANOVIC (Serbia): "(Tennis loses) another champion, a great player who brought a lot to the women's game. She had a different game to any other woman on the tour. I'm sorry to hear this."

BILLIE JEAN KING (U.S): "Pound for pound Justine is the best player of her generation. I trust she has not come to this decision quickly or easily and I wish her the very best. Justine is an extraordinary player, a special person and a true champion in both tennis and in life."

CARLOS RODRIGUEZ (Henin's coach): "Technically and tactically she has it all. But I think she will be remembered for the way in which she won and lost and the way she never gave up no matter what was going on in her life.

"She never craved fame and money. All she wanted to do was play and win."

LARRY SCOTT (WTA Tour chief executive): "Justine Henin will be remembered as one of the all-time great champions in women's tennis, and a woman who made up for her lack of size with a will to win and fighting spirit that was second to none.

"It is rare that an athlete leaves at the very top of her game in this day and age but Justine has always played by her own rules.

"History will remember Justine for not only her seven grand slam titles and three years finishing as the WTA Tour's world number one but for one of the most graceful backhands the sport has ever seen and an ability to overcome any and all obstacles placed in her way on the tennis court and off."

FRANCESCO RICCI BITTI (ITF president): "Justine Henin has been an outstanding athlete of her generation, and had a grace and style on court that distinguished her from other players. She has always been one of my favourite players to watch.

"Her victory at the 2004 Athens Olympics was Belgium's only gold medal at the Games and we are sorry that she won't be able to defend her title in Beijing. She has made a huge contribution to the sport."

She was still in her prime so it really doesnt make sense to me and besides her favorite tournament is just weeks away so its still rather confusing but in female tennis 25 years is like 40 years old

French open kicks off tomorrow guys!

What's your prediction? I say its between Djokovic and Nadal.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by FOD(m): 9:24pm On May 24, 2008
I tip Fed to find a way to end this endless drought. Djokovic may not even reach the semi.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 1:08pm On May 25, 2008
Djokovic is struggling to Dennis Gremelmyer at the moment, it will be a huge upset if he goes out in round 1.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by dinozzo(m): 7:08pm On May 25, 2008
Murray through in five sets, Djokovic in four. Serena playing at the moment, won the first 6-1 up in the second 3-1.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by 4Him1(m): 7:08pm On May 25, 2008
Moya already beaten in 5 sets by a qualifier.
Re: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by dinozzo(m): 7:15pm On May 25, 2008
