Politicians in Ondo State, who are jostling to contest one elective position or the other in next year‘s general elections, are now living in fear following threats by some people – believed to be working for their opponents – to scare them away from the elective race.

So far, no fewer than three frontline aspirants had been threatened to step down or risk violent attacks either directly or to be carried out on their immediate family members.
It was Commissioner for Works, Mr. Yele Omogunwa, who is contesting the Ondo South Senatorial seat on the plaform of the Labour Party, that was first threatened when his daughter, Yemi, was kidnapped recently.

Also, an aspirant under Peoples Democratic Party and from Omogunwa‘s Senatorial District, Mr. Sola Jimoh, raised an alarm recently that his life and those of his wife and children were being threatened by yet to be identified individuals, who wanted him to drop his ambition or face their full wrath.
Sola, who is an insurance expert and the elder brother of billionaire politician, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, said two text messages had been sent to his wife‘s mobile phone within two weeks by the same people threatening to ”deal with me, if I failed to withdraw from the race to represent my people at the senate in 2011.”
He explained with surprise that the criminals had visited his children in their school at Ibadan and had monitored their movements at his Bodija home -an area in Ibadan - to the extent that they know much about their activities.

He had said, ”When they threatened last week to deal with me if my wife failed to call me to order and force me to renounce my resolve to contest the senatorial seat next year, they sent another one describing my children school and my house.”
The first text message sighted by our correspondent, reads: ”Tell your husband to step down if you love Sola Jimoh for the interest of yourself and your children [sic]. Ikale is not a place you can come from nowhere to rule [sic]. Politics is not a child‘s play. Ask Alhaji Jimoh, if not, we will show you the other side of life. To be forewarned is to be fore harm [sic].”

The second text message also reads: ”You did not talk to your husband. My boys visited your children‘s school at Bodija. You cannot take your three kids abroad to school [sic]. They [The boys] visited your house, nice building in the estate. How stupid are you to allow the only boy you have in your family to work for Jimoh? Next time I will text you [sic], you will be speaking to your children and your brother.”
