Don't think it's the first cable-stayed bridge design in Nigeria. Think there was one designed for the Bonny river in Port Harcourt.

@Paddy_lo

Would you know if the center spans are high enough to allow merchant ships passage into the interior waters of the state?

I love the design! It reminds me of a few bridges in Europe designed by the Spanish architect, Salvatore Calatrava. The cables should be festooned with lights so that they will glow at night like Christmas trees. The Golden Gate and the Bay Bridges in San Francisco are lighted as such.

I doubt it will allow merchant ships cause those are shallow lagoon waters

However it should easily allow Ferries and other smaller boats

And yes it will light up at night, apart from street lights(which is a requirement for every new lagos road),there should be bright lights on the bridge itself
I trust berger they always do their job well

Sorry. I confused this waterway with the large body of water that separates the mainland from the island. My memory of Lagos is rather sketchy. Yes, you're quite right; it will be too shallow to allow cargo ships passage through. Are you resident in Lagos? If you wouldn't mind, please post more photographs of developments like this in the future.

Its not special enough to be shown on discovery-I mean ground breaking-has-never-been-done-in-the-world-before.

My Father in heaven I still pray you give delta state a man that is half as competent as Fashola not the demon whose three point agenda is himself, wife and daughter.

Is this the same paddy lo, on stock market nigeria.com.  The guy who was advising us to buy the over priced Dangote cement shares.

weel might be the first of its kind in West Africa, fact is this along with others in Nigeria or lets say Lagos can be compiled for maybe a Season in African/lagos Development 3 years down the line, i just hope they are documenting
these things, even a local broadcasting company can use it

they will tell us at the last minute (when all the papers have been signed and loans received), and when people mumble they'll accuse them of not wanting development- enemy of progress

Eko Ile and Babapupa also "bombard" us with a lot of information and pictures on the activities of the LASG.

Maybe they can also shed some light.

Why do they need to build a suspension bridge? It's shallow water, and not JB's style. I think those pictures are just for show. I doubt they're building any suspension anything.
Re: Lekki - Ikoyi Link Bridge Construction Update - July 2010 by Nobody: 11:34am On May 17, 2011
^^^
Lets watch and see, it may be a normal bridge but given an aesthetic value with the suspension design

Aesthetic value? The pillars and cables alone can double the cost of the bridge.

If it is for aesthetic value, then the material you are costing will not be used, remember the fct gate, it was first made of wood and gradually converted to concrete. So I believe a cheap durable material will be used, the cables could be normal twine, spray painted with metallic paint. No weight on them so they could be really cheap

Fashola Inspects Ikoyi Bridge Now At 80% Completion

Re: Lekki - Ikoyi Link Bridge Construction Update - July 2010 by jason123: 6:15pm On Dec 19, 2011
Dec 18, 2011 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Sunday inspected the state of work at the 1.35 kilometre Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge which is currently at 80 percent completion.

The first of its kind Cable Stay Bridge, with Pylons that will be 90 metres high, which will connect Admiralty Way in Lekki to the Osborne Road end in Ikoyi, is conceptualized to ease traffic at the corridor and make travelling between the two high-brow communities easier.

It is being handled by Julius Berger, one of the leading construction giants in the country, whose Project Manager, Mr. Christian Moessman, led the Governor and his entourage to walk through the project. Other top officials of Julius Berger present were the Division Manager Mr. Wolfgang Loesser, Operations Manager, Mr. Thomas Haag and Contract Co-ordinator, Engineer Nath Ikem.

The Governor had earlier, in company of his Works and Infrastructure Commissioner, Dr. Femi Hamzat, Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ganiyu Johnson, Special Adviser, Private Public Participation (PPP), Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, inspected the Lekki-Epe Toll Plaza 2 and the on-going alternative road that will run through Chevron Road to the back of Olorunshola Estate and back on the Expressway.

He expressed satisfaction at the quality of work done on the road which is at 50 percent completion and was certain that government would expedite action on its completion.
