MTN has launched new products that will ensure that its customers enjoy more call time at highly reduced costs in its market segments.
At a media launch in Lagos , the telecoms company announced the new Value Proposition Packages (VPP), which replaced the ones it launched in 2006 when the company introduced five product bundles that will cater for its customers in the various market categories.
One of the major highlights of the new packages is free weekend calls, a new development in the telecommunications environment. In the Funlink segment, a customer makes free calls through the weekend to a registered “best friend”. Both registered “best friends”would be charged only N100 each for this novel service which runs from 12:01am on Saturday to 11:59pm on Sunday. The other market segments offer discounts of up to 80 per cent on calls and services.

What is free about this? we are paying N100 each. and is the N100 for every weekend. what is MTN taking us for, do they think Nigeria are fools or because we dont have Leaders they can just trilled us anyhow

That said, i think its a bit silly of the Poster to tag an organization "useless" cos it plans to make calls available at lower tariff to the populace.

I think they are trying to catch late in the market, Etisalat is sweeping massively to pick up their customers,customers have their MTN lines for receiving calls while using etisalat to make calls to all networks, so simple solution if you aint happy with MTN get an etisalat and enjoy reducded tarriffs to all networks, and the competition could make MTN think of really free offers, but truth of the matter is nothing is absolutely free.

I will make enquiries about the free weekend calls it would save me a lot of credit on calling my lady at least reserve importrant talks till weekend.

It appears you are on MTN pay-roll, if not how can you just say the stupid promotion just introduced is free. MTN has not been treating there customers very well despite the fact that they have the highest number of subscribers. On a personal note, they have not impressed and i dont see any success in there stupid promo. Abeg Alabae, free me now.

MTN can never give you anything for free. They are likened to satan: gives you one blessing and takes ten in return.

Hope people will be able to get through and the lines wont be jammed and bad network wont frustarte people to abandon the free weekend rubbish, which isnt free at all as 100naira is involved. which is quite ok as long as its good service and has no hidden charges or issues.

MTN is the worst company on earth.  Can you remember the last time they did a promo to encourage their customers? MTN feel they are controlling Telecoms in Nigeria so to hell with all their subscribers. I have an MTN line, but only use to call persons on my family and friends list. Etisalat is what i use to make all my calls, even MTN calls at 15 naira per minute. MTN no fit catch me mugu again, thanks to etisalat

I think we should be very careful with our judgement on issues. Mtn may be making money in Nigeria just like every other communication firms but we have to really consider so many factors peculiar to Nigeria 's business terrain. They have thousands of base stations across the country been powered by generators, maintenence of facilities, employees's welfare, they are involved in a lot of coorperate social responsibilty projects, they pay millions of naira to government via tax, licence and other forms of taxes. So I dont see any extortion if they are charging just 100 naira for a weekend call.

There is nothing free about this package, why are you people ignoring the fact that #200 is involved in the whole stuff. Even as i know emptyN and their rub bish gimmicks, they'll still have a way of deducting their money from your balance during the week. As far as am concerned MTN SHOULD BE LIKENED TO SATAN WHO'LL COLLECTED UR CHILD IN RETURN FOR A HEN GIVEN TO YOU. Hmmmmn, emptyN is poo, Etibaba ROCKS jooor.

It is a very useful company to me since it puts bread on one of my relative's table.
Of course we should all by now know that there's nothing like free meal.

This a way of making money.

Let us analyse it.

If I want to call my mother during the weekend, I will pay N100 and my mother will pay N100 i.e N200. If I want to include my dad, I will pay another N100 and my dad will pay N100  i.e 200. Which mean for me to talk with my parents on weekend, I will spend N400 naira. Imagine 1000,000 people that will do that in a weekend. Your calculate will display error if you want to calculate this.

MTN is not giving us free call what they did is that they rolled out more product in the market, so if you like it buy, if you don't leave it.

For me, I will not buy it, with N400 on the plan I have now,I will have a family meeting with my parents and have balance. So why waste on weekend alone.
Moreover, I don't know why I should wait until weekend to call a friend. This MTN people should emulate etisalat in giving free call.
