A Nigerian citizen, Joseph Adumukwe, was in 2008, roasted alive on fire by the Gabonese Police for an offence he never committed. It was indicated that the Gabonese Government, reacting to the mounting pressures from civil society, accepted to negotiate with the Nigerian authorities and resolve that crisis peacefully, but the Nigerian Government never indicated interest.

It was said that a Nigerian Delegation from Gabon was at Abuja penultimate week to protest the plan by the Gabonese Government to deport all Nigerian citizens in Gabon, both those with legal resident and others in December 2010 without being found to have committed any crime.
“The dehumanization of Nigerians in Diaspora has become rampant in Asia, Europe, America, Australia and other African countries whose citizens and businesses in Nigeria are protected by the government, but Nigerians have remained victims of arbitrary arrest, illegal detention, torture, deportation, discrimination, illegal and extra-judicial killing, etc” Ibuchukwu lamented.

The Executive Director emphasized that the time has come for the government to transform its foreign policy to protect Nigerian citizens in Diaspora. He asserted that over the years the government has embarked on charity policies in the international arena, making life difficult for Nigerians in foreign countries.

Meanwhile the CLO has written to the Federal Government and the German authorities over the racist attack on Moyo. The organization also enjoined President Goodluck Jonathan to set up strong mechanisms to handle cases of abuse and dehumanization of Nigerians in foreign countries.

i would like to see the nigerian government do more. OBJ was actually bold and defended nigerians abroad by taking the issues straight to the government of the countries.

another issue i have with this is a lot of these nigerians are breaking laws in those countries. i dont care that they do it but that's the consequence of getting caught.
