A caring bank ll ask d customer first. Hey this kind of non sense can only happen in Nigeria where there is no law. And by the way Y shld dey dip their hand into my money without my signature(in whatever form) before taking my money. My friend they have no case

@Poster I feel you, the relationship between a bank and a customer is like a contract. It involves money and resources, hence any unusual deduction should require the customers approval. Why should I pay for something I have not decided to buy just because you are in custody of my money?

The only payment agreed on by that express contract is the COT. If the bank can wake up and start issuing ATM card to everybody, why won't they wake up and start giving loan and overdrafts to everybody, afterall they are bank products with undeniable benefits.

When the last ATM card I used from Intercontinental bank expired, I requested for another one and got it, but could not use it as they gave me no pin. I kept bugging them until when I went to them in the third month and was duly informed that my N1000 ATM card which I had not used at all had been replaced, and I have to pay another N1000 before I get another one. Infact they could have withdrawn the money before telling me, except for the fact that I kept the account empty to avoid their inefficiency.

xreal:

NO!
And what about 'continuity' in services. It's your money, your ATM card, hence your access to your money we are talking about here.
There should be continuity in your use of your ATM card - in respect of your INITIAL card-request. Therefore, another card of yours, which will serve the same purpose should be readily inplace before expiry date, and handed over to you at/post-expiry. I see no need for any permission for this.
However, the customer should give consent to the deduction of money. I guess the cost of production of the new card attracted the 1,000.
It's a different issue when you decide to unsubscribe to the ATM service - you apply for that, I mean a formal request.

I believe who ever designed the card with an expiry date had a purpose. For you to review your use of the card, change the security setting and update that paper work whether time consuming or not. If the continuity is more important that the change , review and update, then the card should have been designed to have infinite life time. If someone is lazy about going to bank to request a new card, you need only leave a directive for the bank to reprint your automatically. The banks are only issuing ATM cards automatically because they make lots of money from it.

U ll always request for a card in intercontinental whether new or reissuance but GTB bam dey ll debit you like you and dem get the money. I know about intercontinental because I have an account there also. I ll rather keep more of my money because they treat me with a lot of respect unlike GTB such a very arroogant bank and cocky staff, tschew

I see, it seems the problem is the countenance of the staff at the branch you patronize. May I ask; which of the GTbank's branches was that?
It's a branch problem, not general.

I use a lot of their branches anyway, allen,ikoyi,ojodu,ogba,(e.t.c) I see no difference in their attitude. But frankly they were not always like dis 5-6 yrs ago. It is their disrespect attribute that can make them debit my acct without my express approval and they still have the audacity to defend it. GTB has lost it.
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by xreal: 5:39pm On Sep 09, 2010
^^^ well, I understand your point though.
The fact is; as much as I know, most GTBank staff are well mannered compared to others.
As for the 1k - NOT GOOD.
The card without approval - BRILLIANT.

~~~would you rather bankwith them!
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by madejibo: 6:33pm On Sep 09, 2010
I ll rather not bank with that useless bank called GTB
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by madejibo: 7:56am On Sep 10, 2010
Gtb should go and change their slogan "won't you rather bank with us"
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by etauso(m): 8:00am On Sep 10, 2010
The solution is easy. If you are scared of fraud, then do not collect the card from the bank even after you have been informed that its ready. Therefore, if any fraud gets committed on your account using the ATM channel; the bank will bare 100% responsibility without you having to speak big English as the card was still in their care.
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by eadvantage: 8:04am On Sep 10, 2010
They canbe very funny at times. they do what ever they feel like because of there huge customer database.
You got a better slogan for the ORANGE-colored bank?
it's the best advertising slogan of all financial insts we got; it's meant for YOU (medajibo).
better idea, but a lay one.
Why not get it done the official way?
Following your idea, the bank will certainly not be 100% liable, but may be a lil above 50%.
There is never a first issue without prior customer-request/application.
So, if scared of fraud - DO NOT make a request or apply for the card in the first place.
This will make banks and other institutions know that their customer (the nigerian citizen) is very important. This practice can not be done abroad. Even if I don't achieve justice I would have sanitised the public about the criminality of GTB
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by madejibo: 6:33am On Nov 11, 2010
If u have been following this thread u know I complained about the way and manner of which GTB debited my account for naira master card without my consent. Now can you imagine they have debited my account again for the same card when I am yet to collect the first one again. Haba! Is this not 1st degree fraud. Here below is a mail I sent to GTB:
Good morning,
I got an sms alert yesterday night at 23:02 hours saying that my account has been debited by N1,000:00 (one thousand naira only) for the replacement of cashplus card with a chip and pin card.
Below is a copy of the text message:
"Transaction Notification: NGN1000.00 DR (STANDING INSTRUCTION-REPLACEMENT OF CASHPLUS WITH MC CHIP AND PIN) on 202/******/1/59/0. Your balance is NGN1059503.01".
You will recall that I was debited for the same purpose on the 31st of August 2010. Up till now I have not gone to pick up my card because personally I believe there is too may fraud on you atm . Also you will recall I complained to your bank through emails about the way and manner my account was debited.
I will want you before 12noon today (11th of Nov. 2010) to explain
1. Why am I being debited again
2. Refund me my N1000
Also I want a letter of apology signed and sent to my address before the expiration of three working days from today.
My account number is 2022****1590
Thank you
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by madejibo: 6:39pm On Nov 11, 2010
GTB has refunded me my 1000 naira but I still demand an explanation and an apology letter. So if I no shout my 1k would have just gone like dat. HA! GTB really disappointed
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by asamuel: 3:15am On Nov 12, 2010
@majedibo
So, finally our thread is yielding results. They must have called a serious conference over N1,000. silly bank! Imagine N1,000 from N15 million customers. That's N15 billion. That's the kind of profit GTB boasts of. Whatever happened to regulation.
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by asamuel: 3:19am On Nov 12, 2010
Instead of a bank to solve its customer issues, they resorted to employing an Industrial Trainee like xreal to defend their frauds online. But xreal, this job is more than you can handle. You can see more and more threads coming up for GTB everyday. Meanwhile you are only responding on NL without checking other online forums.
GTB!!!!! They rob millions of Nigerians N1,000 monthly to pay xreal some N30,000 salary per month. What a heartless way of handing issues!
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by asamuel: 3:01pm On Nov 18, 2010
any news about this bank again? are they waking up? the last time I checked they are still sleeping.
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by kg(f): 5:03pm On Nov 19, 2010
It's not just GTB almost all the banks have done same. They force it on you and deduct your money without asking because it's compulsory, sad. There are better ways to do things, our banks should learn.
I've used Zenith, Intercontinental, Union, UBA, Oceanic and I can say I prefer GTB all the same.
Re: Is Gtb Claims On Cbn True? by asamuel: 7:16pm On Nov 19, 2010
I guess this kg man is another xreal in disguise. What xreal could not do, you think you can do it?
The last time I checked GTB is still the worst among the list of banks you mentioned.
