Banks are under siege, right now,no bank is open in Aba, ATM's are not functional,
Kidnappers kidnapp everyone kidnappable including busloads of nursery/primary school pupils,
what is the Governor doing?
the police deployed on the roads are interested in their N20 bribes while some of them are being killed at will by robbers,
please draft in the military, Abia is a state under siege,

Its so difficult to imagine that atrocities of sort, kidnappings, rape, robbery, murder of this magnitude goes on daily in Aba and environs and the govt is mute.Even in Somalia, govt agencies and UN forces daily subdue al shabab forces.T A orji is the worst gov in Nigeria. How can the chief executive of a state sit and be mute while the lives of citizens are daily squeezed and snuffed out of them. All his 100% attention is directed towards re-election and another 4 years of redundancy. IDIOT COWARDLY GOVERNOR MY FOOT!

Declaring a state of emergency in aba will not solve anything. What we have in aba is not a case of riots or violent killings, but of armed robbery and that is what must be addressed. Kidnapping is a fancy word. These guys are just damned robbers who steal as low as N500.
My suggestions: 1. Building military barracks all around the outskirts of aba. 2. Aerial policing at nights on outskirts of aba(especially the Aba-PH Expressway) which are usually the base of these robbers. 3. Call for surrender of arms
Re: Gej Should Declare A State Of Emergency In Abia State (aba): by DatNiggaAk(m): 12:34pm On Sep 28, 2010
militancy is different from armed robbery, kidnapping and murder,
there should be no amnesty for these criminals,

While I support the posting of military personnel into Aba, I should also inform this forum that "in a democratic setting, a State of Emergency" is never declared on a State. You need the Legislature to pass that in to law before it can be enforced. Only a presidential fiat can be used to fight this problem.
I still remember the "hands up" days in Port Harcourt when cult groups besieged the city shooting sporadically, the then Governor Omehia brought in the military and imposed a curfew in the State (which Peter Odili could not do with all his influence) who fought and chased the criminals who call themselves militants into the creeks. I think Orji should start by imposing a curfew in the State and tend invite the military since we have a failed Police force whose main aimed of carrying weapons is to extort money from Commercial drivers and protect themselves alone.
Governor Amaechi should also increase the security around the Oyigbo axis of Rivers State before these hoodlums return to Port Harcourt.

It's glaring that the Governor of Abia state is shameless. He has notthing to offer the people of Abia and he still wants a 2nd term. Both he and his supporters are evil. It'll be a shame on Abians if T. Orji wins a 2nd term.
Re: Gej Should Declare A State Of Emergency In Abia State (aba): by osholey(m): 1:43pm On Sep 28, 2010
T A Orji is obviously not incharge of Abia State, the state is under seige, the Armed Robbers cum Kidnappers are holding sway in Aba and environs, kidnapping, killing and raping at will. Living in Aba at present is worse than living in Afghanistan, or Dafur were war is going on because at least in those places the millitary is protecting the civilians, in Aba nobody to rescue! GEJ as a matter of national emergency declare state of emergency in Abia State

A bus load of 15 children aged 3 to 10 years have just been kidnapped.

The bastards are demanding 20 million naira from the proprietress of the school.

Outrageous, abomination, sad very sad.

The situation in Nigeria is just getting worse day after day. Abia's case is just an example of what can happen in the country. Nigeria has no security what so ever. Not to blame the security personnel, but the leaders who have failed years after years to strengthen the force and lack of direction from the selected leaders. This kind of act will not stop if Nigeria continue its non enforcement of its law on the offenders.

your contribution shows that you know little of nigeria constitution.Section 305 of the 1999 constitution empowers the president of Nigeria to declare a state of Emergency in Nigeria or in any part of nigeria provided 2/3 of the state house of assembly sanctioned the declaration. It's a matter of constitutionality.

Not just in Aba, the neighbouring villages around Aba are in hell. You cannot show any sign of property development or refurbishment without their agents sending signal to the kidnappers. if they can't get you, they target your parents or brothers/cousins to drag you into the sagger. it's a very very very pathetic situation in Abia state. Orji's government of that state is a total failure.

The UN should send soldiers into Nigeria and rescue us from both kidnappers: the street hoodlums and the politicians

It is not an easy process to declare a state of emergency and its a process strewn with traps and potholes. I election season, it might be really delicate to declare a state of emergency, especially with the current set of desperate candidates that have threatened to throw the country into turmoil.

Did you read where I said only a Presidential fiat can be used to fight this problem? What do you understand by that statement. Did you also read where I said Legislature need to pass that into Law? I may be wrong in saying pass that into law (mind you, I am not a lawyer and I am not interested in studying law). This is a lay man's view.
