bawomolo: Ileke-IdI: Bamo, learn to compare like for like, this ain't about university levels or college levels, but kids age 7-18 in UK and their poor quality of life that is cheaper than pure water, dissaffected youth with hardly any sense of direction. Kids for whom the way out is getting pregnant to get council flats or dabbling into drugs to make a fast buck or getting featured on x-factor Kids engaging in postcode (zipcode) turf war - you get killed for tresspassing N.E.E.T with N.F.A'S And if you look at the topic again, there's no way this can be trashed out without reference to NID'S AND NIN'S |

Re: Another Nigerian Kid Shot Dead - London No Place To Raise Your Children ? by olafolarin(m): 3:53am On Oct 25, 2010 |
Nigeria to an extent is much safer because there are auntys, uncles, grandparents etc to look after the kids when the parents are working. I spent almost 3 yrs with my grandma while my parents were studying in Uk. That didnt make me a terrible boy or grow up to be a menace. In Nigeria, most children see people to look up to.They get disciplined by the extended family and/or the entire society I grew up in a low-income area of lagos and still you just have to be right.behaviourally(MUST) and educationally(if you have the potentials to) because you see your mates doing great things and immediately you didnt pass your WAEC,GCE or JAMB on time, friends will consciously or otherwise start to neglect you. You'll be forced to start burning those night candles to be at par or relevant. Kids with Bad character are seriously scolded by the entire society. In this case i mean such kids will be avoided by either their mates and/or their parents. Most of what we see as bad character in Nigeria is nothing compared to kniving, violence or outright murder going on in these "civilised" world. "Absentee" parents are even more on the recieving side. They loose on both sides.Kids get bad and the money they make from slaving themselves wont be enough to repair the damage. Nigeria is far better to raise kids than UK.Thats my 2 cents |
Re: Another Nigerian Kid Shot Dead - London No Place To Raise Your Children ? by chic2pimp(m): 4:01am On Oct 25, 2010 |
Busy_body:But college kids fall within that age bracket, don't they? Besides, no one is saying that the situation in the U.K is picture perfect but believe you me it is 100 times better than what we have in Nigeria. Also I think some of the things you listed above i.e Zip code turf war are grossly overexaggerated. |
Re: Another Nigerian Kid Shot Dead - London No Place To Raise Your Children ? by Nobody: 4:03am On Oct 25, 2010 |
Busy_body: Ileke-IdI: Interesting, which leads to my question. . . . then where is the best place to raise children? Where is the best education system? Where is the best place MAXIMUM disciplinary action can be taken against children? Where are they provided the best resources? etc. Is there a definite answer to those questions? chic2pimp:What is the proof, I have not seen it o. chic2pimp: Not UK's term for "college", she's talking about college/university. |
Re: Another Nigerian Kid Shot Dead - London No Place To Raise Your Children ? by Kobojunkie: 4:05am On Oct 25, 2010 |
olafolarin:I think you are confusing issues here. Who tells you that many of these kids have no aunts, uncles, grandparents to look after them or something? And why is it that other European and western countries with similar laws do not suffer the same level of violence? I strongly disagree with much of what you have above. What Nigerian children have people to look up to? I grew up in that same Nigeria, and can attest to the fact that Nigerian schools are not much safer. I lost about 5 of my course mates to meaningless rivalries in the course of my five years in the secondary school system and by my last year, it was apparent that many would likely not make it past college as they were already branded cult members at that point. Even though I am not against corporal punishment, I question the idea that it is the only way when children in western nations, who have never been disciplined in such a way, still grow up to become good citizens. By the way, I think your comment above is more a generalization than actual factual for much of Nigeria. It is a bit disingenuous to proclaim Nigeria is a safer place to raise kids. It is not . . . . and we all know this but for some reason are willing to let our emotions cloud our judgment. Yes, Nigeria is a place where parents can get away with spanking their kids without themselves needing to take responsibility for their own part in the actual education of the kids, but it is not necessarily a safer place to raise a child in the right way. |

Busy_body: Its not liberalism's fault your greek friend has a deranged kid. I don't think social services says a parent can't defend themselves from their wild feral son. demonic kids like that are the exception and not the norm. since when did schools arrange abortions? a 10 year old shouldn't even be having sex. i heard of 16/17 year olds being able to get plan B but 10 year olds having abortions is unheard of. |

bawomolo: This deranged boy as you called him, is typical and the norm of what you would expect across the board in UK. And pray tell how can you defend yourself, even mere restraining that child will leave fingermarks on him which will get your a.r.s.e in jail. Well newsflash, Uk does, so welcome to our World, where sex education including teaching children it is right to have gay tendencies starts from age 5, yes sex education commences from age five, now go figure the level of rot in such society. |

Busy_body: well what's wrong if a child has gay tendencies? you gonna whoop the gay out of him? I don't see what sex education has to do with the rot in society. and what got you UK folks cranky, is it the tea and crumpets. we bussing our guns over here and you sissies are complaining about bread knife crime on a serious note - your friends son needs anger management and therapy before its too late |
Re: Another Nigerian Kid Shot Dead - London No Place To Raise Your Children ? by olafolarin(m): 4:46am On Oct 25, 2010 |
bawomolo: Nobody is disputing that!!!Those days,You need to see an ordinary inter school football match between Igbobi College and Angus memorial(they both share the same compound). It will end up in a free for all. But we are say is that it is not this rampant.Exceot maybe in PH,i hardly hear or see any secondary school kids using guns on each other. I was born, bred and schooled all my live in Lagos.I went to one of the most notorious secondary schools in Lagos. WE just need to be more realistic. In lagos state,Principals Cup Football competition brings the worst out of every school but still the number of those injured is never as high as what we read daily in Uk schools. Its not only limited to UK but also in germany. Most "agberos" are created by the failure of the Govt. Most are school drop-outs who ran away from away from home only to be a nuisance somewhere else. Ask me for a list and i'll give you many. The choice is yours to raise your kids anywhere you want but why do you think some parents send their kids home(Nigeria) for secondary or University education? |

A few statistics for you to chew on * 95% of teenage mothers are unmarried (Source; Office for National Statistics) * More than 6 in 10 teenagers leave school without 5 GCSE's(Source; Department for Education) * Almost 1 in 3 students failed to secure a place at University this year, out of the 688,000 that applied, more than 200,000 did not get admission (Source; The University and College Admissions service Statistics) * Prisoners gets paid to take lessons in anger management classes (Source; Prison Services) * Life expectancy in pockets of UK (age 65) are worse than Countries they send foreign aids to e.g bangladesh, lebanon, east timor, libya, etc * Prisons are being kitted out with satellite tv to pacify bored prisoners, never mind the fact that it already costs £39,000 to keep one person in jail per annum. And guess what happens when foreign prisoners finish their sentences, they beg them with £5k to deport them back to their Country. will be back * |

Osama10: Is it only that? Illegal immigrants in calais wanting to cross over from France to the UK gets money to go back to their Country, Illegal immigrants who wants to go home voluntarily gets £4,000, and according to people administering this money, 15 people have applied 3 times, meaning that they collect this money, gets deported, find their way back to UK, pick up cash again, travel out, fly in again, collect this money for the third time, chei, na wa oh baslone: they don't carry the weapon, 7/8 years old do this for them cos they don't get searched, and the guns are stored in their girlfriend's house. |

I am tired of ignora.muses who keeps coming here to tell us what we already know, Nigeria is a dead zone, we kill ourselves, we are animals, we are in the stone age compared to your America and your UK, fine, we all know that one. If you keep repeating it, you are not making any sense, you are sounding like a broken record, and you may go mad in the process of trying to make that point. So, you are not making any point by repeating it, anywhere, not even here, so you might as well wake up every morning, carry a placard and write all that fact on it and walk through Broadway or Liverpool Street or anywhere like that. But, what makes news, and worth talking about is when we begin to see a figment of the animalistic "Nigeria" and "Nigerians" in those places which you call heaven, that is what is worth talking, that is worth makes news, and that is what sensible people are talking about here. So, save your saliva and keep to the thread, keep to the topic, so, dont tell us what we already know. An english man in New York, LOL. Who cares if i am a man or woman, just like most of you come here to yearn or say what you are not, everyone also has the right to do that. Even those who barely can eat where they are come here to call themselves kings and queens and yearn dust against the other person. LOL. Nigerian Americans. |
