This is the 21st century and borders are being redrawn worldwide, true freedom seekers in the african continent should not miss out in this once in a life time opportunity. Any Nigerian group/geopolital zone that want out of the devil's paradise called nigeria, should press ahead with this quest if it is what they so desire without any fear. They should stand their ground and involve the UN if they can. (MEND can also incoporate international diplomacy into their militant effort if they so wish). The colonial masters carved up africa to suit their selfish desires, it's time to undo this injustice.

To the one nigerianists, again I rebuke you all, woe betide all of you who will not leave the nigerian devil's dungeon but will sabotage the effort of those who desire to forfeit that devilish yoke of a mere "geographical expression". May you and your generation unborn rot in eternal hell fire, where you and your lineage will forever gnash your rotten teeth!

You didn't understand me. Ghana and Cameroon could make us, Igbos, return back to Alaigbo like Ghana did to Nigeria or Nigeria did to Ghana (Ghana-Must-Go) or make trading and business hard for us like Ghana is currently doing to some extent to Nigerians with silly tariffs and levies etc.

Have we tried to picture a scenerio where every Igbo returns to Alaigbo from Lagos? If that scenerio seems pleasant to you, then we don't have much to argue.

I wish I had time tonight.

I still don't understand how this would be different even if in Nigeria. And I don't understand why Ghana and Cameroon would be harsh to countries that break apart mutually. When talking about Igbo people returning from Lagos, did you calculate the Igbo returning from Abuja and other Northern states with the creation of Southern Nigeria? Why (and how) would the Igbo have to return to the east from all over Africa if there is a mutual secession? If the other parts of Nigeria that have been broken down are hostile, are they the only countries left to do business in Africa and beyond?

We would do so much better if we could find a way of working together and going forward as we are now. A large country like nigeria, which is growing at a rapid rate would be a more powerful force than smaller states. also, this would just not work. we just need to change our mind sight. split nigeria up and the separate states will find something else to fight about within their own borders. ethnic division, as such may cease but this won't get rid of greed and the poor mentality that nigerians across the country have today.

1.Southern Nigerians in the diaspora have the capital and technical expertise, to setup and conduct a credible online petition.

2.Just standing by whilst innocent minor's/children & women get butchered and murdered in not acceptable as collateral damage (Jos).

3.Being a sitting duck, subject to sporadic violence from Northerners because they are seeking grazing lands for their cattle, or
because a Cartoonist in Europe creates a satirical cartoon, or because divine intervention (an act of God) disturbs a non constituional
zoning arrangement, and is revealed as unworkable are not acceptable.

The bottomline is you should either be for Option A or Option B, but to do nothing is a recipe for disaster!

I'm being silly because my conscience dictates that I make as much noise as possible in defense of innocent minor's/children & women getting butchered and murdered in Jos.

You're based in the UK right? Would it be acceptable in the UK for minors to be butchered with machetes without there being a public
outcry or reaction? Or is it ok because it is only happening to African children?

@ Obiagu1,

I have learnt more about "tribal prejudice" on NairaLand in the last 6 months than I had done in the whole of my lifetime.
I really am grateful to my parents that they did not indoctrinate me as a kid. I cannot understand blind hatered to the
point where it is detrimental to ones health or security.

Millions of Europeans were killed in WW1 & WW2 but they can still get together and agree, form a consensus in their common
interest to Carve up/demarcate Africa, and eventually form the EEC.

I'm appalled at the levels of ineptitude or passive acceptance without intervention amongst Nigerians, this is why I have
always argued that Nigerians are complicit in maintaining the status quo, and encouraging decadence in Public life.

I believe the secession of a southern state of nigeria is possible, and is infact the prefered choice. Every points made in this thread have been awesome. I commend everyone's opinion. Of our 50yrs of history, the north has been the pull-back to our collective progress as a people. Agreed, there has always been frictions between igbos and yorubas, but that has never led to annihiliation,as we find among the northernerns. We've never heard of an igbo murdering a yoruba neither has a the latter done vice versa. The individual differences when aligned, can yield mutual growth.

With 'Southern Nigeria', Ghana and Cameroon will continue to send back Nigerians and introduce new laws to discourage them from entering their country. With smaller countries, Ghana and Cameroon will continue to send back Nigerians and introduce new laws to discourage them from entering their country.

So why are the people in Lagos more important than the people up North? And have you considered whether everyone in southern Nigeria would want to be in a Southern Nigeria?

The bottom line is that with S. Nigeria, they'll have a larger and secured territory to explore and try to resettle unlike the little Alaigbo. That's the difference.

@ ezeagu, Southern Nigeria will end up being the most populous, most prosperous Black African country in the world.
Abuja is no comparison to the "New City's" and Trade zones that will start sprouting up in Southern Nigeria. The economy
will be focused on production, building a surplus and profits. Other Black nationals will flock to the new State, and because
security will be of paramount importance, it will be a lot easier to encourage tourism. There will be no starving mouths in
the new State, but this is the big one, we can invent a new currency for the New state which will be more valuable than the
Naira and could alleviate poverty.

How are the Southern Nigerian people going to unite all these group in the south to ensure that they won't have conflict? The Igbo are living in every part of this world and do not need to be connected to anybody's land in order to trade. The 'little' Alaigbo is where the majority of Igbo live and there is still space for double the amount.

Without some benefits, certain parts of southern Nigeria would stay on their own in a split. Certain parts of southern Nigeria will stay on their own in a split.

The momentum will be built from the conflict between north and south after that the southerners will face each other.

I do not subscribe to the idea of southern Nigeria Republic. I would prefer a Republic of Igboland or Igboland in some kind of Confederacy with people of cultural proximity such as Ibibio, Annang, Ogoni, Ekoi, Kalabari and Idoma.

However, the disintegration could lead to fierce battles of territorial expansionism which could come from the northern region aided by forces from Niger and Chad Republics. The strategies that will be put to practical exercise are not subject of public consumption.

I like Alaigbo, it's a good option too but can it be actualized?

In your opinion, if there's a campaign to create Alaigbo and another to create Southern Nigeria, which one do you think will succeed?
IMO, Alaigbo is way to difficult to achieve.

If a S. Nigeria is actualized, we cannot really lose much on the things we think are the advantages of Alaigbo over Southern Nigeria.

Yes you are right, a dream, but I was in Nigeria in the early 80's and the standard of living was very high.
Europeans create their own living and social conditions, and so can we.

But the bottom line is that you will either stretch out your hand to other Southerners so we can form an
alliance for our common interests, or you will not. The Arabs are setting themselves on fire to take a stand
and we are not prepared to do that, the least we can do is to achieve objectives peacefully and legally.

the north uses jos crisis as a propaganda tool to keep nigeria together.

What the north does when ever there is likelihood of break up of nigeria. they attack jos and other small christain location in the north, so that the south could not leave nigeria. This is what you are seen happen again in Jos.

It is more to arose the emotion of the people of the south. they sometime also use the media to create fake story of non existense christain areas of the north. It is more of propaganda by the north. But the truth is human been are been killed over this. And killing innocent people just to keep a nation together , who does it look to you. Does that look to you as people who want to live together. NO.

Secession or no seccession. No section of the country should coerce or force any section into fighting a cause dat is not theirs. If igbos want to secceed let them not drag d yorubas into it. Yorubas and igbos are 2 different entities. So leave yorubas alone and fight ur cause alone.

How does creating a " broad (multi faith and multi tribal)consensus across S. Nigeria in order to get the UN involved so they
can sponsor a referendum for separation" amount to coercion to fight a war? You are completely off point!

In as much as I don't ever believed in one Nigeria from day one. Anything called Southern Nigeria as one country will be far worse than Nigeria as we see it today.
It will be like jumping from a frying pan into fire.
How on earth, will anyone, after eventually freeing self from Nigeria and then will choose to replace it with another mini Nigeria called Southern Nigeria?
There are no such thing as Southern Nigeria as long Ndigbo is concerned, if there were such a thing, I think it ended in 1967, when some of them joined hand with the northerners to fight their so-called southern brothers.
How can you create another nation with Yoruba and Ndigbo inside it and expect progress? You measure how futile such a country will be even through NAIRALAND alone. No chance!!
The day Nigerians will eventually wake up from their slumber and decide to go their separate ways because the crude oil that kept forcing them together is either finished or something new happens, everybody will go back to their pre-1914 of Lord Lugard status.

Then based on choice and individual interests, whomever chooses, can form a new marriage (nation) with whoever it find comfort/trust with or another choice to stay on your own , no matter what.
There is no hidding the fact that Ndigbo, Ibibio, Efik and possibly Annang may likely form a nation based on the fact that they had always got on well better than others, over many generations in the past.  They had never had any known or recorded disagreements in the past and such a union must also be based on the choice of each and everyone of them.

Why would an Igbo nation stop Igbos from emigrating? That is not just a baseless sentiiment but also meaningless.
Many Igbos like Ojukwu's father, my grandfather and others was making their money/building their businesses in far away Congo, Equatorial Guinea (Known as Panya then) as early as 1930s. As we speakm my family still the sole Franchise owner of Citreon Trucks in both Gabon and the Congolese nations.
Igbo businesses are more secured in far away Cameroon, Togo, Gabon and presently South Africa than they they are in Ogbomosho, Sapele or Katsina etc.
So what the heck are you talking about migration, especially in today's open world?
