I just found love after so many years but at the same time ive also found a job which will be taking me far away from my new found love, now i want to know if long distance relationships really work and what are the tips to keep your love alive even when you are worlds apart.

@OP,

What I mean is there has got to be an understanding. Especially when it comes to finance.
One partner cannot pretend the other is rich and can see them when THEY want to them to.
If you cannot stomach being away from each other and keep your mind focused on the eventual
goal of being united after taking care of individual issues then LDRs are not for you. But you HAVE GOT
to be an understanding person. NEVER play games or bluff when in an argument because that makes
the temptation to break it off or to cheat even easier to succumb to. People who can master LDRs are
special people.  smiley I know a woman who waited for her guy for 16 years!! and they are still together
only this time living with each other. There will be heartache and pain not to mention the arguments
but if you have self discipline and are considerate to each other it will work. Gotta put God in it tho.

I have been there and done that. So I know.  smiley

my last LDR was between myself and a guy who lived in New York [I moved to the south]. It was crazy and the reason
we broke up. But it lasted as long as it did because we were for as long as we could be patient and considerate.
He paid for most of my travel expenses and I paid for his when he came. smiley He understood my position and I his.
Breaking it off was sooo hard and still hard to get over. We talk every once in a while but what happens is supposed to. undecided

The odds are not high. You have to work hard for it. It helps if you've established yourselves before separating.

Too many fishes in the sea and unless we were TOGETHER before we have separated I would not engage in long distance relationships.

Life is too short. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

long distance relationships have a better chance at lasting if both are:

emotionally mature
have a full agenda (aren't sitting around with little to do but cry about why they aren't together)
are financially stable (can visit, call often, can send gifts, etc.)

long distance has a much better chance at working if you can communicate frequently - it's as though there isn't distance between you.

If you are extremely young, immature, no finances, aren't settled with a decent amount of self esteem or self assurance and you are sitting around waiting for the phone to ring and you have no agenda to keep you busy.

LONG DISTANCE WILL NEVER WORK FOR YOU.

i agree and in addition for me iv learnt to tame myself from suggesting i'm suspicious i never sniff or try to find out if he's havin xtra affairs my mind is open cos from past experience i knw it puts a lot of stress on the relationship, though i love him so much n we r planning on life-long but if any mess up happens i will never end up in a psychiatric ward i understand its hard esp when u r in different country. It really works esp if u care less about s3x cool but it demands a lot of sacrifices and endurance i dont encourage it though cos, if i had my way i wouldnt be in the same mess lipsrsealed

Of course. Being away from someone you love or care about would be difficult for anyone and regardless how often you guys keep in touch it is not the same as being in short distance with each other.

Anyone can pretend everything is good over the airwaves.

I'm presently in a LDR and i can say its working alright. I believe its just like any other relationship. See how it goes first before making ur decision
