Outlandish women who attend the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) are in for trouble as the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has banned them from wearing trousers to church.

The man of God, popularly known as Daddy G.O., decided to shed his garb of softness and impose punitive measures on female worshippers who always wear skimpy dresses and tightfitting trousers to church.

Adeboye was said to have warned and threatened to sanction female members who flout the order.

The General Overseer’s riot act to female worshippers was published in a recent bulletin of the church.

The enforcement may begin at the RCCG annual convention which is going on at its Redemption Camp, Km 45, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where millions of worshippers gather for the annual event.

Until recently, a large number of women who wore trousers to the church were tolerated in their quest to attract male worshippers.

Unknown to these women in skimpy dresses, they had unwittingly divided the RCCG into two camps: the conservative worshippers on the one hand and the radical ones on the other. The radical ones are the modern day worshippers who feel they could wear anything to church, no matter how skimpy it is, while the conservatives are the old time Redeemers who still keep to the standards in the Bible in their mode of dressing and general comportment while in the church.

P.M.News gathered that it was in a bid to sanitise the RCCG that Daddy G.O. decided to ban women from wearing trousers which is offensive to other worshippers.

Adeboye’s ban coincided with the ongoing onslaught by the police against women who wear trousers and skimpy dresses on the streets of Lagos.

The police onslaught is also to sanitise the state and discourage prostitution and commercial sex workers who often habour criminals and other anti-social elements.

the madness continues, so redeemed allowed trousers in order to attract male worshipers?

Nigerian press and the garbage they publish, In my view there is nothing 'biblical' in banning trousers, you may give specifications as to what degree clothes should be tight-fitting and what degree of exposed skin is preferrable to you, but to 'ban' an item of clothing with so many variations and styles based on a purported conservative/biblical slant is short sighted. I'd like redeemed members to furnish us with copies of this 'recent bulletin'.

Why say that just because the women wear trousers they are outlandish or trying to attract male worshippers. Sometimes certain people should not be allowed to have contact with the public as in journalism. I wear trousers because it is extremely comfortable and safe. Did he go to the church to find out whether or not they were clad skimpily or whether their trousers were skin tight? I hardly believe that people were wearing their jeans that tight and the pastor is just now banning it. This whole trouser banning business is ridiculously disgusting it's almost humorous. I think the reason places like Nigeria are third world is because people in power focus in the irrelevant aspects of the country.

Yay!!!! Boon's first thread, I'm here to support ya!  wink

Well, I am just wondering why for the past 2 years I keep bumping in RCCG guys and pastors, This is so so so so weird. I just bumped into the head pastor of the one of the US. churches today at the post office and he struck up a conversation with me. Now here I am, another thing with Redeemed.

Ok, this is what I think,

We women of God should know better when dressing. It is quite a shame that it had to come to this-for the G.O. to place a ban.

The Holy Spirit that dwells within us ought to convict us on how to dress, For instance: When I dress to go out, there is always a "look" that I intend to go for, either the business look, the girlie look, sporty look, the romantic look, the relaxed look, the chic look, etc. The moment that clothes hits my body, My alter ego comes to life. I get excited, stare at myself, My flesh just loves that "bad girl look." The clothes is like a second skin and if you are like me and have got the curves in all the right places, it gets pretty dangerous!! Then, I start to strut around, just loving myself in a conceited way (sin) and dance around infront of the mirror. I am free to fantasize/be whatever I want to be at that moment, but the minute I attempt to walk out that room, the Holy Spirit goes. ah ah ah!, "Where do you think you are going dressed like that?" The Spirit always wins the battle over the flesh bc I cannot afford to go anywhere w/o the Holy Spirit's guidance.

No matter how good the flesh feels, if I truly love God, I must return to the wardrobe/change. I will keep changing until the Holy Spirit is satisfied.

So, I guess, those private shows I have infront of my mirror will have to wait for my hubby, and Oh will he enjoy the show.  wink

Ladies, we gotta cover up. The Spirit is willing but the flesh is oh so weak! By dressing slutty, we only lead others sin and you know what the bible says about that.

ummm, sorry for the details, I had a point to make,  wink
Re: Breaking News : No More Trousers For Redeemed Ladies, Adeboye Orders by debosky(m): 3:46am On Aug 08, 2007
nice story miss Godsgirl, do you support the trouser ban if its true?

will it not be a case of creating/being yoked under 'laws' again?
Re: Breaking News : No More Trousers For Redeemed Ladies, Adeboye Orders by Godsgirl(f): 3:52am On Aug 08, 2007
Well, My point is, trousers is not the only problem. "dressing" is the issue. Tight trousers are better than a tight short skirt, at least the trousers cover up. ban trousers and the skirts will get shorter.

I do not think that this is an issue man can handle-Only God can. It is an issue of the spirit.

The change in dress code will never change the heart of the person that dresses that way, it will only make some of them bitter.

But then again, The pastor must do what he has to do to keep order in the church, the ban could at least prevent some men (married included) from falling into sexual temptation.
Re: Breaking News : No More Trousers For Redeemed Ladies, Adeboye Orders by debosky(m): 3:59am On Aug 08, 2007
so its women's trousers that cause men to fall into temptation? not the men's eyes?

or women don't wear these same tight trousers outside the church to make the same men fall into temptation, that its their Christian 'sisters' in the church that they'll decide to use to satisfy their lusts? what about the women themselves? are they willing/unwilling participants?

I agree that ONLY the Spirit cand eal with this issue - you start creating rules now and before you know it, we'll be back in the old days, clean on the outside, dirty on the inside.
Re: Breaking News : No More Trousers For Redeemed Ladies, Adeboye Orders by Godsgirl(f): 4:08am On Aug 08, 2007
Hey, you wanted my opinion and I gave it to you. You mus'nt agree with it. I agree that it is the man's roaming eyes can get him into trouble but a man cannot walk around with blindfolds during the entire svc if every woman chooses to dress like she just came from a night club.

Again, the reason why my original post was long is because I gave very specific details of the dangers the flesh pose. It all starts in the mind, then seeps into the heart, we then act on these feelings, then it leads to death. This is a process (look what happened to David) You responded so quick, you want a "yes or no" answer. This case cannot be dealt with that way.

Men are not as strong as women are when it comes to control in this area. Even the best man that means well can fall at any time. This is a struggle.

I cannot and will not support women dressing like whores and attending church only to blame the men for looking, That is just unreasonable and unfair. We must help each other so that neither one falls into temptation.

You have a right to your belief on this issue. Please allow me to do the same.

Re: Breaking News : No More Trousers For Redeemed Ladies, Adeboye Orders by Godsgirl(f): 4:19am On Aug 08, 2007
I hear you D. We will not let them off the hook. We can deal with those irresponsible men on a different thread. Such men (married included) continue to hit on me despite the fact that I dress reasonably. Now those men have no excuse for their actions and need deliverance.
Re: Breaking News : No More Trousers For Redeemed Ladies, Adeboye Orders by debosky(m): 4:22am On Aug 08, 2007
thats exactly what I was talking about - if someone wants to sin, its a matter of time before he finds who to sin with, be they wearing mini-skirts or hijabs

by the way, do you attend RCCG in the states?

No, but I will visit one of these days, I hear it is a nice place to worship. I will be visiting Naija soon and hope to visit the branch in Lagos. How about you?

my sister and her brother in-law go to RCCG in Naija, I've been there a couple of times, but right now they are a bit too 'Nigerian' for me if you know what I mean, though some good friends go there as well.

I just hope it is not the type of Church that will want me keep quiet when I wanna say "AMEN" out loud, yeah, I'm a shouter!!! I stand, I clap, I get involved in the entire church experience. Thank God, I can feel it when the Holy Ghost has walked out the door, It gets really cold and dry when this happens, When the Holy Spirit is invited, He flows, Oh I love worship so much, Infact I gotta go now, I miss my DAD embarassed -I need to worship Him before I go to bed cheesy

Have a great night D!!!

Hey the way I see it, if women can't wear trousers because of mens wandering eyes then these men should wear blind folds. I don't wear tight clothes but I like trousers because they are very comfortable. But women should have a choice to wear what they want instead of letting men getting away with imposing on our rights. It's a mans world but women gave birth to these world so it should also be a woman's world.

@ G-girl & Debosky,

This has aways been controversial - whether female should wear pants or not. All the folks that are against it have always qouted deu 22:5 as backup. I have three different interpretations for that verse. What do you folks think about it?

Meanwhile, concerning RCCG and most other churches, what I have noticed is that those people that dress in un-godly manner are NOT members of the church. When I say member, I mean the devoted ones. Those folks that come in unacceptable dresses only come around with ulterior motives. I hope the ban will reduce them a bit. On the other hand, would this ban be in effect in the church's branch outside Nigeria? especially in cold regions like Canada where temp could drop as low as -30c?  undecided

Deuteronomy 22:5 is not specifically addressing issues of women dressings in trousers. The verse (and its surrounding verses in context) is more to the point of people not confusing their gender roles in their dress codes.
Re: Breaking News : No More Trousers For Redeemed Ladies, Adeboye Orders by Godsgirl(f): 5:55pm On Aug 08, 2007
what I think of Deuteronomy 22:5?

Well, I would look at it in the context of the time in which the Israelites lived. There were under the law and Christ has redeemed us from the "curse" of the law (not the blessings-please note, we believers are still entitled to the "blessings" of Abraham).

Now, lets talk new testament-When Paul addressed issues pertaining to the law, he made it clear that the plan was not to "abolish" the law, but we must recognize that we are under a new convenant. Therefore, we must not be held accuntable to the old one.
The new convenant with Christ is heart driven (Spirit-led life), the old covenatnt with Moses was "Deeds" driven (religion)

This goes back to my orig point-If we are now under a new convenant, such bans must not be imposed on individuals. However the individuals themselves need a change from the inside out. What is being preached in the pulpit should be Spirit led and should convict the congregation of such things.

This is why I say this cannot totally work, It is a good preventative measure however the women who have been taken over by sexual demons will find another way to entice men.

My brother, These are the last days! I am no longer surprised.

honestly ,trousers was not designed for men but for horse riding .the earlier our men of the cloth understand the better .moses never wore a trouser but a robe and that part in the bible that says men should not wear women apparel is just refering to transvetites .this is a shame and i want to believe this is not true

this law has no biblical backing

cos in those tymes trousers were not even invented!

GODSGIRL i feel you seriously someone quote deuteronomy 22 5
you should ask yourself what was MOSES wearing then was it a trouser or a robe and check out the encyclopedia of fashion and see the history of trouser it was designed for horse riding and not for MEN as perceived errornousely today you guys should not turn christianity to something else . though i do not hold brief for ladies in skimpy dresses but banning females from wearing trousers is not the way to go at all at all .shikena .
i live up north and i know what girls that are all garbed from head to toe do behind there mullahs back

Lol. . . it's not even a matter of whether the woman wears trousers made for men, or those specially made for women. . . even even the unisex ones (I've seen men actualy wear the latter)! grin

I see Deuteronomy 22:5 saying just one thing: don't confuse your gender roles in the way you appear in your dress code. Whether it's wrapper, skirts, scarf, shoulder pads, etc (men also should take note!).

However, if the issue is left to settle on the matter of "trouser", smart babes will bring in something else. Let's try. . . skirts and minis! Wetin the G.O. go do by that time? E go ban skirt join the standing law in his manifesto? undecided

Okay, if he ban skirt plus trouser, plus everything else, wetin we go wear?!? angry Abi we go come church in our original Eve's dress (naked skins)?

People, let's use some Gd-given common sense here. The message is clear in Deut. 22:5 -

woman, don't dress like a man
man, don't dress like a woman.

In NT language, there are several equivalents. Let me quote just one:

1 Tim. 2:9 -- "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array."

For me, the bottomline is also what the Lord Jesus affirmed in Matt. 18:7-9 --

"Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire."

As for the men folk, make una watch wetin una eye dey permit una brain to think O! tongue
