I love colour combinations. I saw a purple (i think lilac) and white bedroom and fell in love with it. The contrast won me over.

While the Nigerian building scene has come a long way in exterior architecture, some improvement is surely needed in the interior decor. We've done well with the decor of our living room in Nigeria, but to some extent still lack panache in executing our KITCHEN, BEDROOM and KIDS ROOM. Our executions are sometimes too bland without a perceivable statement, message or concept.

I took a drive to IKEA in Croydon, South East London to "steal" some interior design concepts that we can possible modify or adopt wholescale in our projects going forward.

LIVING ROOM: As earlier mentioned, we've done well with the living room, so I will not dwell much here. Just need to showcase the interplay of coloured in the execution of interior concepts. In the picture notice the interplay of colours on the wall and the drapes (curtains). Again notice the dark furnishing. Black concepts (interior) is increasingly gaining popularity at least here in the UK. With the great sunlight in Nigeria, will "dark" interior wash with us? Just wondering.

Below is another dark execution, but notice the sharp contrast of the white dinning table. The idea is to accentuate the dark execution and black 100% leather dinning chairs. Brilliant!. You can get this concept for about £3,500 at N275 to the pounds, that will set you back to about 963K ! Note that this price includes also gas cooker with oven, fridge, dish washer, washing machine, microwave.

Enough with dark concepts. Below are some light, bright kitchen decor:

Yet another angle. Notice the interplay (blending) of the kitchen cabinet with the flooring. The flooring is laminate click effect which means no glue or nails needed. Just click into place.

Again, another light concept. Notice on the far left the shelfing for pictures (family photos), flowers and even files in the kitchen. The low back chairs are really brilliant.

Here is a unique execution of a self-contain. Notice the open plan kitchen. The sofa can double as a bed at night. Can one with some modification adopt this concept as a student hostel for "big boys"? The toilet is also highlighted.
