the soakaway/septic tank system
Due to land constrain the septic tank has a dimension of 7ft x 15ft x 10ft, the dimension of pit dug to accommodate this structure was 10ft x 186ft x 12ft. the extral dimension was to allow for ease of work and movement into the system.

Material for the soak away/septic tank includes the following
1. 3/8 sharp sand as both the coarse and fine aggregates in the concrete
2. dangote portland cement
3. High yield bar of 12mm as main reinforcement and 10mm bar as links
4. soft plank as formwork
Re: A Nairanlander's Building Project by abdulwastecx(m): 1:15am On Jun 03, 2015
procedure
1. the pit digging was done manually by 3 men for a period of three days at a cost of N35,000. we encountered some problem due to rainfall and the poor strength of the soil.
2. Due to anticipated poor bearing capacity of the soil, a raft beam was used as the foundation of the soak away, this cost was not allowed for during the planning process for the job

we finally settled for the second one.

The first activity involve the removal of the poorly done front arch.
The following reasons necessitate for the removal
1. Heavy cracking of the block below the arch due to absence of supporting columns
2. poor workmanship

@ abdulwastecx: Sorry, I missed the part where you did the cost of materials for casting the top part of the tank.
Plus, can the reinforcement stand the weight of a vehicle?
The steel rods there don't look like 12mm to me oh!
Can you please enlighten me.

The main bar was 12mm spaced at 200mm center to center while the distribution bar was 10mm spaced at 250mm center to center. The aim of the job is not to allowed vehicle to pass over it but for the side of the wall to resist the overburden soil pressure which may result from moving vehicle adjacent to the wall.
