I don't think Femi Kuti deserves no 10 position. Lagbaja or Tuface or Flavor are more powerful in Africa than him and Samuel Etoo is more powerful than Drogba. |

Personally I would make some changes I would remove Femi and replace him with Fela (his father) Roger Milla (Cameroonian Football legend) Kofi Annan (Fr Gen Sec to the UN) Frankie Federick (Namibian Sprinter and Olympic medallist) Charlize Theron (South African and Oscar winning Actress) Francios Pinaar (South African Rugby captain that won the world cup) Dikembe Matumbo (Former NBA star) George Weah (Liberian and former world footballer of the year) Iman Bowie (Ethiopian Super model) 2 Likes |

It is not about what you think and mind you the selection was not based on emotions or sentiments. These are the most powerful/influential Africans presently and the list changes with time. 1 Like |

i think Forbes meant to say influential. Abeg is Akon more influential than Genevieve? Forbes ppl are smoking igbo. Achebe is definitely at the top of that List. |

If that is Forbes award, then don't expect Mandela's name to be there. Since his release from prison, America has seen him as a terrorist because he fought for apartheid. His name was just removed in 2008 from terrorist list. America is the head of Forbes. They don't want Mandela to be celebrated but we all know he is a "Hero". |

What is Femi Kuti doing on the list? Where is Jay Jay Okocha, where is Eto'o, Where is Tubaba? Maybe the list wasn't compiled by how popular they are but i still don't agree with them. |
Re: Chinua Achebe Tops The List Of 40 Most Powerful Celebrities In Africa by Nobody: 6:32pm On Oct 13, 2011 |
, how can people compare 2face with femi Kuti, comparing a one man keyboard band to a proper established band. Femi Kuti was nominated twice for a grammy in world music category and his voice was used in grand theft auto (very popular in EU and North America). His songs might not sound good to Nigerians but his song are appreciated in the developed countries. What label is 2face with again? Chinua Achebe deserves the spot. I have met so many people from different countries around the world that mentioned ''things fall apart'' was part of the secondary school English literature syllabus. |
Re: Chinua Achebe Tops The List Of 40 Most Powerful Celebrities In Africa by IykeD(m): 6:43pm On Oct 13, 2011 |
saxywale: It's not about band or nomination, if it is by popularity, trust me no one knows Femi Kuti, in fact if he wasn't Fela Kuti's son, he wouldn't be relevant musically. As for being popular in Europe, well if Europe is only the UK, then i will agree with you but if it extends to other countries and regions then tuface is by far and i mean by far more popular. I was discussing with a white friend just yesterday where i am, he wanted to hear some naija tunes and when i tried "youtubing", he quickly asked, what's the name of that guy that sang "African Queen" and i asked do you know him, he said he had heard the song so many times and i was gonna say tu and he said yessss, tuface, with an accent. |

Someone needs to be compensated for the inability to win a Nobel As for me and my people we would rather win a Nobel than get listed with 39 other people on forbes newspaper. 1 Nobel prize is enoguh. Its like an Olympic medal compared to Dubai Opens |

dayokanu: Achebe is the Africas greatest living legend, soyenka is not anywhere near Achebe. Achebe's book is standard curricular in Nigerias and African schools. Achebe's Things Fall Apart has been translated in over 70 languages of the world and has sold over 7 million copies. Achebe does not need Noble Prize, its the Noble Prize that needs Achebe to legitimize itself. Am sure Noble Committee will be regretting ever giving a prize to soyenka because they must have realized he was never qualified to receive the honor have seen Achebe's soaring profile around the world. |

Iman Bowie is Somali. Sorry my mistake Achebe is the Africas greatest living legend, soyenka is not anywhere near Achebe Achebe is a legend but Soyinka is a Nobel Prize winner, Its like comparing Genevieve to Charlize Theron, you would ask the question what has Achebe done for Nigeria. |
Re: Chinua Achebe Tops The List Of 40 Most Powerful Celebrities In Africa by Nobody: 11:00pm On Oct 13, 2011 |
IykeD: well, you can't judge by just one white friend. In my own opinion, Femi Kuti would still pull more non-Nigerian crowd to a music concert any where in Europe and the America's not just the UK hence he is more influential than 2face. |
