@tomx
My dear just leave them make them dey blab.

Hehehehoho. . . grin

Take heart and don't yap for sympathy - "tomX has nothing to say, for plain truth is obvious. Read it carefully again - and show where these things are not so:

@tomX:

@Pilgrim.1,
Is that the extent of your arguement, that in the case of David, the word used is meant to be Lamp not light? In other words, the bible was mis-translated? Please you should be well awear that no one is going to buy such a lame arguement.

In the first place, I'm quite used to this limp exculpation of Catholic discussants referring to my posts as "lame argument" whereas they have had absolutely nothing to share from the Bible in response to the few simple questions I've asked. If this is just another one of those boohoos from you, please wake up to the real issues of this discussion and save the childish comebacks.

Now a word as to translations of the Bible. It is important that we understand the revelation of God in His WORD as He has given it. Translations in many instances do not convey the accurate reading of the texts in their original languages - and we have seen this time and again.

The fact that even the Catholic Church ihas not been satisfied with a single English translation of the Bible is the reason why she has sponsored several translations in English - including the New American Bible (NAB, 1970), the Jerusalem Bible, JB 1966 [which was subsequently revised to produce the New Jerusalem Bible, NJB 1985), the Douay-Rheims (DRB, 1582-1610), and the Challoner-Rheims (1752, a revision of the DRB) which heavily reflect Roman Catholic slant of doctrines than fidelity to the Biblical texts.

Let me give you an example. In Genesis 3:15 of the Doauy-Rheims (Catholic) version, we read the following:

"I will put enmities between thee and the woman,
and thy seed and her seed:
SHE shall crush thy head,
and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel." [Douay-Rheims]

Now compare this with a common translation such as the ASV on the same verse:

"and I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her seed:
HE shall bruise thy head,
and thou shalt bruise his heel." [American Standard Version]

It is not merely a matter of semantics that we should be concerned with here. Rather, what the Douay-Rheims version says is radically different from what we find in the ASV. While the latter (ASV) teaches that it is the seed of the woman that would crush/bruise the head of the serpent, the Catholic Douay-Rheims says that it is rather the woman herself that would vanquish the serpent. The basic question here would be: WHO does Scripture say would defeat the enemy - the woman (MARY) or the Seed (CHRIST)?

Of course, we know certainly that Genesis 3:15 clearly teaches that it is the Seed (CHRIST) that would bruise the head of the serpent - i.e., destroy him (see Gal. 4:4 and Heb. 2:14). Even the Catholic Popes and Bishops cannot deny this truth - for in one of the Homilies of Pope John Paul II [Sunday, 2 February 1997] as an example, he acknowledged this fact indeed in the following quote:

'In that 40-day-old infant it sees the “light” destined to illumine the nations, and presents HIM as the “glory” of the people of Israel (cf. Lk 2:32). It is HIM who must conquer death, as the Letter to the Hebrews proclaims, explaining the mystery of the Incarnation and Redemption: “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature” (Heb 2:14), having taken on human nature.'

Now, if these things be so, is it any wonder that the Catholic Church has deliberately and without a Scriptural foundation forcefully presented Mary as the one who crushes the head of the serpent (see footnote in Douay-Rheims, Gen. 3:15)! This is why Catholic lay-readers who swallow everything they're told wholesale never take the time to reflect on the meaning of these pictures, which are obvious and deliberate travesty of God's WORD:

It is really such a pity that Catholics have been duped into believing the fallacy that it was Mary who crushed the head of the serpent. Two examples suffice to prove this point presently: (a) a Catholic website that says: "Immaculate-Virgin, Holy Mary, who will crush the serpent's head"; and (b) another Catholic website that says: "As Mary is often shown, she crushed the serpent's head without even looking."

My dear @tomX, you would have to choose between Roman Catholic duplicity and the clear teaching of God's WORD! To claim ignorance and muddle things up as if they don't matter is to manifest a queer kind of rebellion against the revelation that God Himself has given. You may call this 'a lame argument'; but bros, we simply shake our heads in pity for the souls who are colossally confused as to who actually vanquished Satan - is it MARY or JESUS?!? grin

The last Pope saved many Nigerians from the gallows and the dungeons of Kirikiri. Many of these people are the fathers, uncles, brothers and distant relatives of his detractors that labeled him the anti-Christ.

Meanwhile, the bible-believing and bible-cramming churches stood aside and moped helplessly, while Abacha wrecked his havoc.
Re: Are Catholic Xtians? by Maykelly(f): 1:03pm On Mar 04, 2008
All that doesn't matter. what matters is the Ten commandments from GOD. If they keep the commandments - is left for GOD to judge BUT NOT YOU MEN. Check your bible about Judgement.
Re: Are Catholic Xtians? by Nobody: 8:20pm On Mar 04, 2008
Nice. Our bible-cramming churches knew the ten commandments off-head. They were still not able to save themselves from Abacha.

Is not about knowing the ten commandments off hand - is all about putting into practice i.e doing them.

The Catholics could be regarded as Maryians Christians only that it would be difficult
for them to enter heaven without accepting Jesus as their Lord and personal Savoiur.

Re: Are Catholic Xtians? by skydancer: 12:38am On Sep 20, 2009
@pilgirm, I saw your post on ASV translation stuff. Let me ask you: Which one do you think is right? A woman's seed can be a man or a woman. So why do you infer that
1. it is the seed that will crush the head, and
2. That this seed is Christ

Revelations 12 further glorifies mary when it says:
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed in the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars.
The sun is seen as a great symbol by the romans, also twelve stars signifies the complete tribes. A great mother of all nations. I do not believe in those who give not the slightest recognition for the mother of Christ even if she was used as a tool (assuming we ignore revelations and other chapters of the Bible that talk about the woman).

@ Andrew 3388
I'm a Messianic Jew.
Do you know that the Ark of the covenant had the statue of two Angels on it, Confusing isn't it. How about Jesus saying that just as the Israelites looked at the staff to be healed so also will people look to the cross.
But anyone that refused to look at the staff with the snake on it died. Could it be that they died because they did not want to commit Idolatry.

How about you Andrew breaking the commandment every time you go to Church on Sunday instead of going to church on the Jewish Shabbat which is Saturday.
Don't you think you will go to Hell by continously breaking Elohim's commandment by going to church on sunday.
And by the way which Church compiled the New Testament, Is it not the Catholic church.

Stop this Andrew. JEWS believe you are going to HELL as a Christian because you equate Jesus with God(Elohim) by even believing He is the Son of God.
What you wrote is typical of people who hear from the wrong sources. You need to watch EWTN to know what the Catholic church really believes. Its available on Daarsat, Trendtv, and free to air on Intelsat 10 C Band(Big Dish) and on the internet at www.ewtn.com or you can go to www.catholic.com.

Stop spreading hatred and lies against Catholicism, what you wrote is always included in the lies people tell against Catholics.  Someone once told me that Catholics believe that Jesus is the brother of Satan, this is clearly a doctrine which Catholics don't believe.

If you are tired of your church, I invite you to discover the Jewish Jesus. I know you've lost your Jewish roots just like other Christians have. So come become a Messianic Jew. You won't regret it.  Catholics are Christians.

@ Everyone
Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of lights starts begins on 12 December 2009 and ends on 19 December 2009, so go get your candles and Menorah.

This is just how confusing some Christians can be. When atheist, satanists and muslims make posts against you on nairaland you feel bad, but you are doing the same thing to Catholics who are Christians like you.
I don't know where i will find a Catholic who hates protestants.

@Andrew 3338
Can you tell us your denomination, i'm sure many people on nairaland will also view your believes as being false.
When will Christians ever come together as one. Una wan start sunni-shiite problem.
Discover the Jewish Jesus, become a Messianic Jew. Pat Robertson of the 700 club and CBN has discovered his Jewish roots and is now messianic.

@ Everyone
Hanukkah is coming soon get ready.

Everything is wrong with worshipping mary since she is not God but the last time I checked catholics don't worship Mary rather they honour her,she is venerated by catholics likewise thousands of other saints.

Protestants who like to tell us honouring mary is equally wrong but they even give more honour to their greedy pastors that's why today pastors are alwys right even when he drives 5 private jets and his members are hungry

I think we christians should be more reasonable. Why would you allow your legs to be pulled by a psychophant. How can one ask you a question like are Igbos human beings? It means the person is already considering them as animals who might somehow be human beings. There are things called rhetorical questions for God's sake. Religion is a thing of the faith. We are at the mercy of God and blessed is he who holds on to his faith. Stay blessed y'all!

Come to Jesus and He will save you from the bondages of your kill-spree religion. Else then you better do something about it. No religion is perfect but we all have to adjust ourselves and our religions so that no one will be made inferior. Or do you love all these religious conflicts and murders and wasting of lives going on just because we believe in a supreme being?

Then continue to wallow in your ignorance. A religion that abuses morality and human rights, and claims to be a holy religion. Hypocrites and pedophiles! That's what it has since I think you are the most devoted muslim. If the most devoted muslims are like you, then there is no hope for y'all. Morality is essential in every religion!
