Niger commissions oil refinery Monday
Written by Austine Odo Friday, 25 November 2011

Niger Republic will on Monday commission the 30, 000 barrels per day integrated upstream and
downstream Zinder petroleum refinery which was constructed by the Lanzhou Petrochemical Company of China.
A Chinese company, China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Developement Corporation (CNPC) , isexploiting the Nigerien oil in Agadem, in the Diffa region of the north-east of the country.
“At Agadem, the first phase of exploitation resulted in the establishment of 50 drills and a refinery in Zinder, 460 kms away,” the Chinese Ambassador to Niger, Xian Huan, declared recently after a meeting with President Mahamadou Issoufou.
According to the first estimates, the proven reserves of Agadem are 324 million barrels, while the Zinder refinery is expected to produce 30,000 barrels a day.
Construction of the refinery in Zinder began in late 2008. The equipment for the refinery was imported through Nigeria and freighted to Zinder.
Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world, the 167th out of 169 countries. Zinder is about 240 kilometres from Kano. The country gets about 90 per cent of its electricity from Nigeria through the Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission. Reports say potentially profitable outlets for Niger’s refined petroleum products need to be quickly identified in neighboring countries, particularly Nigeria, which has considerable absorptive capacity, as local demand is expected to consume only one third of the total output of these products.
Daily Trust gathered that the Nigeriens need only 10,000 barrels per day for local consumption while 20,000 barrels would be exported to Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer. But it was also gathered that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) does appear keen on the plan which is expected to take effect next month even as the authorities in Zamfara State have declared interest.
Enquiries made at the NNPC in this regard were however not responded to by yesterday.

This refinery was built by a Nigeria (one of the cabals) because no Nigerien has such money to build refinery.
That was why they removed fuel subsidy so that the refinery will have monopoly in Niger instead of people smuggling from Nigeria to Niger and competing with him

On point. A poor country like niger building refinery dat Nigeria can't build AS A LEADING OIL PRODUCER? What exactly does Niger want to refine Niger-Delta oil?

GEJ was truely God sent.
