Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello on Thursday said the Federal Government has shown little commitment to helping his administration facilitate the freedom of 41 students and staff of Government Science Secondary School, Kagara.

After the abduction on February 17, President Muhammadu Buhari had swiftly mandated security agencies to ensure the safety of the abductees.

But Bello, a Peoples Democratic Party Governor, appeared to suggest that the President’s words have not translated into action.

Governor Bello Matawalle has received weapons and ammunition surrendered by three repentant bandits in Zamfata state.

The three bandits, said to be notorious, were led by Mohammed Sani, the son of another notorious bandit, Buharin Daji, believed to have been killed by security operatives a few years ago.

Zamfara is one of the few states in the Northern region which has chosen to negotiate with bandits as a way of restoring peace.

During the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, unsubstantiated theories linking COVID-19 to 5G technology were widespread.

On May 5, 2020, the Senate directed a joint committee to investigate the status of 5G in Nigeria and its technological impact on residents.

At a public hearing on Thursday, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, said all evidence, so far, has shown that 5G is safe to use and urged Nigerians to disregard the myths around it.

“The radiation of 4G that we are all using here is more harmful than the 5G,” he said. “The radiation of microwave, oven at home is more harmful than that of the 5G.”

Two Brothers Slump And Die Within Seconds Of Each Other While Fighting Over Their Late Father's Land In Benue

Tragedy struck in Tse-Agbulu, Kunav, Sengev council ward of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, when two brothers who were quarrelling over their father's land suddenly slumped and died within seconds of each other.

The brothers identified as Iorhemba Adóón and Jima Adóón, are said to be the eldest sons of late Adóón Agbulu.

It was gathered that the ugly incident happened  between 2:00pm - 4:30pm, on February 5, 2021.

According to Facebook user, Udam Samuel Aseer Nts, who shared the story on February 18, trouble started when Jima hired a tractor to plough his rice farm near river Benue but was confronted by his brother, Iorhemba, who dispersed the workers on the grounds that the land was their father’s and as the eldest, he ought to have inherited it.

His action angered Jima, who claimed to have stood by their late father who experienced difficulties before he died.

The brothers were said to have exchanged words and resorted to charms as they made incantation in the full glare of the villagers.

While chanting incantation, the elder brother slumped and in a matter of seconds, the younger one also slumped. Both were rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said the corpses have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the wake keep and burial of the brothers is slated to hold on 5th March and 6th March 2021,  at their ancestral home in Tse-Agbulu, Sengev District Gwer-West LGA Benue.

Nigerian Foreign Affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama has said the President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, has expressed readiness for his country to be part of Nigeria.Benin Republic to be part of Nigeria

According to a report by Daily Trust, Onyeama, who stated this shortly after a close door meeting with Beninoise Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Aurélien Agbenonci, said the Beninoise president gave the offer when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari, a few weeks back.

In his words… “The President of Benin said as far as they are concerned, they want (not just saying it like that) but in reality, Benin should be the 37th state of Nigeria”.

“We should really be one. They charged us to come together at ministerial level, to work out a framework for a sustainable relationship.”

Speaking further, Onyeama said, both presidents also discussed agreements between the two countries on how best to put issues of smuggling to an end, as a follow up to the presidents’ meeting.

The deplorable state of Calabar-Itu road has claimed 9 lives after a commercial bus belonging to AbiTrans Company somersaulted several times at the bad spot of the road.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was conveying passengers from Cross River to Akwa Ibom state before it crashed.

“It was a Toyota Hiace belonging to AbiTrans Company. The driver was over speeding when he lost control and somersaulted several times. I don’t know where he is running to, knowing fully well that the road is bad”, a road user who travelled from Uyo down to Calabar said.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cross River Sector Command, Cyprian Ofordu confirmed that 9 persons died in the vehicle which was conveying 12 people.

Ofordu said 9 died on the spot while 3 others were severely injured and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to him the AbiTrans bus with 12 passengers ran into a MACK truck and after the driver lost control.

He said: “The three persons rescued are in a critical condition as we (FRSC) were called in to rescue but what we saw at the crash site was bad.

“Those involved were three female adults and 9 male, but the 9 persons who died have been deposited at the mortuary including two females and 7 male. If there are further development, we will keep you abreast”, Ofordu said.

Church members and wedding guests in a church in Port Harcourt engaged in a verbal fight when the pastor refused to wed a couple right away because they arrived 5 minutes late to church.

Despite pleas, the pastor went to his office and declined to wed them at the appointed time.

He left the couple waiting for one hour and allegedly said he will wed them at his own convenience inside his office, not in the church as expected.

As some point the bride breaks down in tears while the groom tries to console her outside the church building.

Those defending the pastor clashed with those who were on the side of the heartbroken couple.
Eventually, the couple got tired of waiting for the pastor and got another person to serve as their officiating pastor.

Since the exchange of vows couldn’t hold in the initial pastor’s church, they did that in a hotel.

“Wedding done back at the hotel with a stand in pastor,” the photographer later gave an update.
