Ibime: It was super average yet you were googling since 11am to find who bettered it, like say na JAMB question.
Nobody is arguing with you why Zidane won WPOTY. What we are saying is that Zidane was competing on equal footing with almost every CAM in the world, not like one carryalong who is competing with Leon Osman and co. Except this statement doesn't really jive does it? Is Zidane a winger or a CAM? Should we be comparing him to wingers or CAMs? Why are you so fraudulent? Ibime: I mentioned CAM because in the days of 4-4-2, wingers outscored CAMS, that's why Amuneke and Finidi were expected to score more than Okocha.
So don't go calling wingers names. Ibime: If someone did not knock you on the head, you would know Zidane was stationed on the left wing for Real. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Nihilstjnr: 6:38pm On Apr 18, 2017 |
Ibime: No you came in with intellectual dishonesty which I would expect from someone who was never a witness to that era. I don't want to open too many variables to this debate that's why I quickly surmised and asked you to follow the earlier debates so as not to derail.
Rivaldo a CAM? That's foul. Even Raumdeuter was not dishonest enough to list him.
Djorkaeff a CAM? When he was winning golden boot in Seria A in 1997 as a striker with Zamorano. He is listed as a forward also.
Gullit played every position on the pitch from Defence to Striker and scored most of his goals as secondary striker, even as part of a famous front 2 with Van Basten.
For Luis Enrique, see Gullit.
All the players above are also listed as forwards on any profile you wish to check.
Once I see this kain dishonesty, I don't even bother cos we could start debating 10 different players positions and lose sight of the central argument.
My point remain kampke. Zidane stands shoulder to shoulder with all his contemporaries in the CAM position for goals scored in his era. Anyone wey even pass him, it's not by much. After 5 hours of googling, una even go find forwards just to edge him by few goals.
Iniesta however is being outscored 4:1 and 5:1 by his contemporaries in AM position and left them to even go and get trashed by the Leon Osmans of this world.
I can't put it no clearer than that. The only person being intellectually dishonest here is you, because you're attempting to show that Zidane's career goals are the reason he was voted WPOTY of several occasions, which is patently false. We have shown you several players with similar or even better goal records who never even climbed the podium, so clearly goals have nothing to do with Zidane's awards. Everybody knows Zidane won WPOTY because of 98, 2000 and that goal in the UCL final. Nothing to do with goal output because that was super average. |

afrodoc2: You asked for 3 names confidently and I gave you TEN, including those like Cocu, Mathhaus and that spent practically all their careers as CM/DM/Libero and even Gullit was career was bookended by seasons playing defensive midfield and sweeper. I gave the guy at least 7. The guy just confuse himself upandan. Ibime: Ams didn't score those days, Wingers did so don't mention wingers in the convo. Ibime: Zidane was a winger. I've seen less twisted pretzels. |

Una still dey struggle to find 3 oh.

Ibime: In the 1990s, Ligue 1 was as strong as any league except Italy. You can go and check all UCL, UEFA Cup and Cup-Winners-Cup results. 18 years only takes us back to 1999. That's enough for me to know that the league is sheet. I like how you pointed out that Kevin Nolan has more goals than Iniesta. Dude also has more goals than Xavi. Kevin Nolan for Balon Dor. |

Ibime: What year was 1999 please?
1991 UCL - Marseille, Final 1993 UCL - Marseille, Champions 1994 UCL - Monaco, Semi-final 1995 UCL - PSG - Semi-final 1996 UCL - Nantes, Semi-final 1998 UCL - Monaco, Semi-final
1999 was when they started falling off, long after Zidane had left France.
Use your tongue to count your teeth. UEFA rankings, France has been 5th for almost 18 consecutive years. Is that a league or a fellowship? If you are going to disctimate goals, then stick to Spain and Italy only. Simples. |

Ibime: In 2004, England 8 - 0 Turkey
Ligue 1 never failed to have a UCL finalist, winner or semi-finalist most years in the 1990s. Ligue 1 UEFA coefficient never rose above 5th from 1999 till date. So if you're not counting Turkey, I'm not counting France. Simple. |
