Der r 5 defined square types in d diagram. U av to do a visualizatn to isolate each of d defined square types. Let d largest square av sides 4 by 4 units. D 5 square types r den 4 by 4 units, 3 by 3 units, 2 by 2 units, nd 1 by 1 unit,
Nd also 1/2 by 1/2 unit. Visualizing well, we av ONE 4 by 4 units square, FOUR 3 by 3 units squares, NINE 2 by 2 units squares, EIGHTEEN 1 by 1 unit squares, and EIGHT 1/2 by 1/2 unit squares. Collating therefore, we'v got 1 + 4 + 9 + 18 + 8 = 40 squares in d diagram

below is anoda explanation incase u dnt get d first one

1 big square containing 18 squares including two squares at d middle, inside d 2 squares centered at d middle we have anoda 8 squares making 27 squares. Leaving d top n d bottom column we anoda 2 squares makin 29 , dividing d big square into four equal size we got another 4squares making 33squares, leaving d left n d right rows we have anoda 2squares at d middle makin 35squares, Leaving d top, bottom, left, n d right column we av anoda one square making 36squares, tracing out 3 by 3 small squares to all sides u will get anoda four makin 40squares.
