The former Deputy governor of Edo state and APC 2020 governorship aspirant, Dr Pius Egberamwen Odubu has intimated his supporters on his readiness to decamp to the People Democratic Party PDP, as he has lost faith in the leadership capacity of APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The former Deputy Governor, made this known aftermath of Edo People Movement (EPM) mini primaries held in the private residence of Chief Lucky Imasuen, a chieftain of the party in Benin where Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu a new entrant in the party was adopted as EPM consensus aspirant, which later resulted in free for all.
The mini primaries has since led to disorganization of loyalists of APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Though he later came out to debunks the many pro-Osagie Ize-Iyamu posts on his Facebook account, claiming it was hacked, despite the fact that, he earlier came on the same Facebook account wall to say that the account was hacked, but he has been able to retrieved it.
Situation monitored by News Corner revealed that Dr. Pius Odubu held a secret meeting with some leaders of Edo state People Democratic Party at a private residence in Reservation Area, Benin City and it was concluded that if Odubu can fulfill their term of picking a former Minister of Works from Edo Central and thereafter handover to him in 2024, he will be considered.

Nigeria on Monday recorded 64 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the country’s total infections to 1,337, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

First Suspected Case of COVID-19 in Calabar.
The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has recorded the 1st suspected case of Corona Virus (Covid-19) pandemic in the capital city of the Nation's paradise, Calabar.
A young lady is said to have traveled from Abuja to Enugu and got to Calabar 12days ago was presented to the Accident and Emergency Unit of UCTH in the early hours of the today, with Corona Virus related complaints.
The patient samples have reported been collected and sent for test. She has, also been moved the Corona Virus Isolation Centre of the UCTH for further investigation.
While we await further report on this case; we'd love to encourage you all to adhere strictly to the measures put in place by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, and the global practice to contain the rapid spread of Covid-19.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has revealed the identity of the COVID-19 in the State.

He identified it to be a 19-year-old model from Edo State.

Wike said the patient resides in Port Harcourt and her history reveals that she travelled to France, Italy and Greece before returning to Port Harcourt on the 16thof March, 2020.

On arrival to Port Harcourt, she was asymptomatic and commenced self isolation in her family house before her samples were collected and sent to the Reference Laboratory, Irruan in Edo State.

“The patient is presently being managed at the State Treatment Centre and she is doing excellently well,” he said.

Governor Wike made the announcement while confirming the index positive case of coronavirus in the state where he declared that the State Government has commenced contact tracing of all those she had contact with.


The Governor in a broadcast directed that all Civil Servants from Grade Level 1 – 10 are to remain at home from Friday, March 27 until further notice and all markets to remain closed.

According to him, “It is however unfortunate that despite all the preventive measures we put in place, our State has recorded a positive case as confirmed by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“As the State Chief Executive, I want to sincerely thank this young lady for her patriotic spirit which aided health officials to get relevant information in this direction


May I, therefore urge you all to remain calm because there is no cause for alarm. The State Government is fully prepared to ensure that the incident is contained to avoid further spread. ”

“All Civil Servants from Grade Levels 1 – 10 are to remain at home from Friday, March 27 until further notice.

“All markets in the State no matter how small are to remain closed with effect from Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Following the backlash that greeted the reported ban of Punch newspaper and some other media houses from covering activities of the Presidency in Abuja, the media office of the seat of power in Nigeria has come out to clarify issues saying it was not borne out of ill-feeling but a necessity.
It will be recalled that the Presidential Villa, on Tuesday, 24th March, 2020 reportedly stopped some media houses from covering the activities of the Presidency on a day that the news broke that the Chief of Staff to the President; Mallam Abba Kyari had tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus.
Later, a statement from the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, clarified that the action was taken in view of the unfortunate spread of the Coronavirus which had made it imperative to limit the number of people at any gathering.
The media organizations who have been stopped from covering the Presidency’s activities are; Africa Independent Television (AIT), Arise TV, Silverbird Television (STV), Ben TV and a number of radio stations.
Also banned were reporters from Punch Newspapers, Thisday Newspapers, Tribune Newspapers, The Guardian Newspapers, Vanguard Newspapers, Daily Trust Newspapers and some other frontline print media.
Some media organizations were however permitted to have presence through representation by their photo journalists.
Those approved for coverage are; Channels TV, Nigerian television Authority (NTA), Television Continental (TVC), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), The Sun Newspapers, Voice of Nigeria (VON), and federal radio corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

Tuesday, March 17, 2020 was a day that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole will not forget in a hurry.
It was a day that his traducers would have removed him as chairman of the ruling party via a National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting that he would not attend on account of his suspension as APC chairman by a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Federal High Court.
However, a day to the controversial NEC meeting called by the Acting National Secretary, Chief Victor Giadom, who laid claim to the mantle of acting chairman, Oshiomhole was handed a lifeline by two events.
First, President Muhammadu Buhari, on the advice of bickering APC governors postponed the NEC meeting indefinitely. And secondly, the Court of Appeal ordered stay of execution of Oshiomhole’s suspension.
Thus, on the day he was to have been sacked, Oshiomhole returned to the saddle and superintended a National Working Committee, NWC, meeting where he acknowledged his mistakes, sued for peace and extended the olive branch to aggrieved leaders of the party, who were after his political jugular.
The horse-trading
Vanguard gathered, yesterday, that the reprieve did not come to Oshiomhole on a platter. It came after intense horse-trading by major stakeholders moderated by the Presidency.
To retain his seat, Oshiomhole,was handed some conditions to meet. His traducers were also handed conditions to fulfil in the overall interest of the party.
An inside source, who was privy to the high-wire deals told Vanguard: ‘’You can see that at the NWC meeting, Oshiomhole toned down his combative posture and made conciliatory moves. That was one of the things he was asked to do. He was asked to hands-off Edo, stop harassing northern leaders, and stop his high-handedness. The presidency gave him tasks.’’
Asked if the anti-Oshiomhole forces are ready to sheathe their sword against Oshiomhole as agreed, the source said: ‘’The presidency gave him tasks. We are going along the line of what the presidency directed. No one likes wahala (trouble).’’
Asked if they would withdraw the avalanche of litigations as Oshiomhole told journalists they had agreed after the NWC meeting on Tuesday, the source added: ‘’The direction of the presidency is where we are going. We will withdraw the cases in court.’’
Out of court settlement
Speaking with journalists after the NWC meeting Oshiomhole stated that the NWC had resolved to withdraw all cases from the courts.
“We have also resolved that we are going to withdraw all cases in court that any member of the NWC is involved in so that we must lead by example and we have shown that we are capable of managing ourselves and therefore we do not need the court to help us resolve what we are capable of resolving.”
Lifting of suspensions
Oshiomhole also announced that the NWC has lifted the suspension it slammed on some of its members.
“People had issues which they felt strongly about, and as a result, the NWC took some decisions which affected my friend and brother, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, Deputy National Chairman, North. The NWC had a reason for suspending him as at then. Today, we have reviewed the situation and we believe that in the spirit of our renewed commitment to building unity and true reconciliation, we as leaders of the party elected at the convention should live by example. And that means for those we think have offended the system, we have chosen to lift their suspensions. Sen. Lawal Shuaibu can resume his duties as Deputy National Chairman, North.

The fine details of the deal that saved Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s job as the National Chairman of the All Progressives congress (APC) may have come to light as sources and recent events have revealed the conditionalities that Oshiomhole may have agreed to in order to retain his job as the party’s top executive.
After the meeting on Tuesday between President Muhammadu Buhari and governors elected under the APC, sources disclosed that top on the list of conditions that Oshiomhole was made to agree to was that the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, would be granted the right of first refusal in their elections coming up later in the year.
An impeccable source in the top hierarchy of the party, who craved anonymity, said, “When the governor’s met before seeing the president, the pro-Oshiomhole, anti-Oshiomhole and non-aligned governors agreed that the condition for Oshiomhole’s continued stay as chairman of the APC was that he delivered Edo and Ondo State Governors. There were other conditions as well, which mandated Oshiomhole to recall suspended members of the APC. Oshiomhole was also to stop his highhandness and work with members of the National Working Committee and the leaders of the party, as against his former style.
“The governors have presented this position to the President and that was what guatanteed the reconciliatory moves that have manifested in the last few days.”
Another source close to the National Secretariat of the APC said Oshiomhole’s reconciliatory tone during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting was a sign of the deal he agreed to.
He added, “He has taken a pacifist approach, which is part of what was asked to do to save his job. It is a honorable thing to do, giving where we were coming from.”
In line with the agreement, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Sen. Shuaibu Lawan, upon resumption in office on Wednesday, March 18, declared that the party’s choice in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State is Governor Godwin Obaseki.
“The move is declarative and sacrosanct. It is the party leadership’s position, as have been agreed by the governors.”
It was also gathered that in trying to manage the blow back from the deal on his local support base in Edo State, Comrade Oshiomhole had arranged that the message for Obaseki be returned as governor be brought to the public by other members of the NWC and not himself. This move, many believe, is a strategy to ensure that it would be presented as the party’s position and outside the control of the National Chairman, who has agreed to allow for a more flexible approach for the running of the party’s affairs.
“It is reasonable that such a demand will be made by the governors. A lot of the pro-Oshiomhole governors are in their first term in office and would be needing the support of Governor Obaseki and Akeredolu when it would be their turn to seek re-election. So, it would only be wise for them to fight for the return of these governors in office, so when it is their turn they would also have people that would plead their case, in the event that anyone wants to play a fast one on them,” one of the aides to one of the pro-Oshiomhole governor said in confidence.
