TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by nnanyel: 10:47am On Sep 06, 2018
Good morning house, I have worked as a doctor with the Taraba state specialist hospital for the past two years. Recently I planned to sit for the plab part two exams and had applied for a standard visitor's visa which was rejected.

As locum medical officers were not issued contracts and are not paid via the banks but rather "cash in hand" a few days into the following month with no payslips. For example we were paid on 5/9/18 for the moth of August.

When I applied for a standard visitor's visa for my exams I included the following:
1.passport/data page
2.cover letter
3.letter from two persons willing to sponsor my trip. I made it clear that I would sponsor my trip and that the sponsors were for unforseen circumstances.
4.Sponsors bank statements(6 months)
5. Letter from sponsors stating readiness to sponsor.
6.letter of introduction from the hospital. This stated the duration of my employment,my roles, method of payment.
6.letter of administration which included properties under my name.
7.My personal bank statements for the past 6months.
8. Results of the plab part 1 exams.
9.Valid Ielts results
10. Receipt of payment for the Plab part 2 exams
11.Hotel booking showing the duration of my stay for five days.

Attached below is my rejection letter.

As I have no payslip and I tried to explain this in the letter, how can I resolve this? The suggestion I got was to use someone's payslip at the hospital, modify it and put my name there. Then go to the bank each time I'm paid and deposit the money using the name of the hospital.

I have cancelled the exam and intend on taking it next year so I can plan and change my circumstances.

I would really appreciate it if I could get help.

hanbie:
The usmle has 3 steps, 1,2ck,2cs and 3. To get into residency you need to pass 1 and 2. You can write 3 while in residency.
Two processes are involved. Getting the materials and registering for the exam. Step 1 covers basic sciences, pathology, psychiatry. For the step 1, most imgs use kaplan to form a solid foundation then proceed to the UFAP method close to the exam. However, if your basics is good or you are pressed for time, kaplan notes and videos can be time consuming(up to 3 months). There's the so called UFAP method more popular with us graduates. It stands for uworld, first aid and pathoma. Some imgs have done it this way and have scored high but it means you have to know these materials front to back. U world is a question bank with over 2000 questions. U world is bought online, a 3 months subscription cost about 219$, pathoma is about 100$ From the pathoma website which includes the book and video( this book is indispensable). First aid 2016 could be gotten for 30$ upwards and kaplan notes about 7 books would cost about $110 for new or used ones from amazon. Consider shipping to Nigeria. I don't know what the cost to Nigeria is. People study for varied periods 4-6 months, some even a year. I nor fit do pass 4 months. The most important thing is reading the right materials. Some people read OP materials. Then there's an assessment exam online that kind of predicts your score, called nbme. It resembles the main exam and if you score high it most likely means you would do same in the main exam. If you score low, it means you need to read more.

The exam registration is explained on the ecfmg website. You pay 65$ for the certification, which could be compared to "acceptance" fee. The main exam is 880$ For step 1 only. you pay an extra surcharge of 150$ if you are writing outside the USA. It is after paying that you get a form called form 186 which you take to your school for signing. Your school would then send these documents to ecfmg, Bla Bla Bla. You would understand the process better on their site. This is just a summarized guide. I hope it helps. Join the usmle forums and search for any info and even study partners.
@Hanbie.....Thanks but I'd like to know if it's wise writing plab, moving to the uk and then going for the real thing which is the usmle as having enough funds would be one less thing to worry about....

well seems to me the average 18 yr old is a secondary school graduate at best,if lucky maybe 1st or 2nd year at a university or polytechnic.
Question is whether such a person is able to survive alone?? Such a person can be emotionally or financially independent?? It's true that her needs would be catered for but in the event of unforseen circumstances is such a person ready to walk through life independently?
We have the past with us for a reason and this is I believe to set on in the right direction having seen mistakes from predecessors.
It is true that many women including famous people have married at 18 or younger but it's no new thing issues faced when going into such unions early......
I would like to ask what criteria was used in determining the valid/legal age for such activity?? why 18 and not 19 or 20? note that in some countries in the west legal age has grades..... you might be an adult at 18 but not allowed to drink alcohol or watch rated movies......
I'm not against it,just wondering why in this age where having seen all the lessons from early marriage abound people still choose to. (tis legal in the west to enter into such unions shaaaa)
In the end it's a personal choice...... only that most women I'm pretty sure won't want to wed that young anymore.
