Several persons are feared dead following a bomb explosion that occurred on Church Road, Suleja earlier today.

"NEMA officials have confirmed an explosion at Suleja , four seriously injured victims have been taken to hospital. A death figure has yet to be confirmed," a spokesman said.

This will be the third explosion in Suleja following one which occurred at a rally and another at an INEC office prior to the General Elections in April.

The blast occurred around 3 in the afternoon, and caused extensive damage to some houses in the area. An eyewitness said that a lot of people were feared dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injury.

Policemen and FRSC officers were seen ferrying the wounded persons to Suleja General Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of those confirmed dead had been taken to the mortuary.

The area was immediately cordoned-off by security agents who kept onlookers as far away from the scene as possible.

Niger state police spokesperson, Richard Oguche confirmed that there had been a bomb blast in Suleja. As at the time we spoke with him, he was en route the town and said he would give further information after arriving at the location.

Niger state government spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo, also confirmed the bombing but he declined to make any comment on the incident, saying that he had yet to be fully briefed on the situation.

The first bomb blast in Suleja, which occurred at a PDP rally on March 3, killed seven persons, while the second explosion, which occurred at the INEC Office on April 8, killed 11 persons.
