Education / Co-habitation: On Behalf Of The Fool. by NoLoveLost(m): 8:42pm On Oct 30, 2015 |
[This thread is a reply to a previous thread titled Nigerian Students and Cohabitation menace] Actually, am used to seeing the religious and moral opinions of "disciplined" and "well-trained" nairalanders when it comes to talks on Co-habitation. I see most people who outrightly condemn things in their "righteousness", people who don't think of Situational ethics; people who don't know that an action which is bad in situation A may be fair in situation B. I call them fundamentalist, and i wonder if they would even kill an armed attacker in the name of self-defence? Am sure they will, but then they wouldn't condemn themselves for "murdering" a soul? Will they? Surely they would seek justification. Now back to the issue on ground which is co-habitation, i have 2 points which i want everyone to take note of. 1. Please stop saying co-habitation is a western or foreign concept. Can you deny the fact that in traditional african society, most first children are usually conceived before sealing up the marriage? In fact till now, many families operate on that trend, you need to be pregnant before marital rites can start. And even if we are to agree that co-habitation is a thing of the white, do you not know about enculturation? Do you think we can take what we want from a culture and filter all of the rest? For God's sake, culture is a combination of values which are coherent. If you adopt X from the white, and X coheres with Y, it follows that adopting X would mean adopting Y. So you can't admire some western practices, use their technology, follow their trend and not pull some ills which is against your own culture. 2. As much as it is undeniable that all humans are connected in one way or the other, so is it realistic that we are diverse people (minds). One of the problem we face in life is trying to make a single "style or rule or pattern or method etc." the universal path which everyone must follow. Trying to generalize opinions or convictions should be avoided at all means, so in that sense don't expect that since you disapprove of co-habitation, everyone should shun it. According to a philosopher named Leibniz, this world is the best possible world created by God because of its "oppositions or contradictions which are united". So please, even if your opinion is true and right, don't expect it to be held or practiced by even "most" people. So this writeup doesn't in anyway encourages co-habitation neither does it disapproves it. It is just a message to people who condemn things outrightly. Feel free to query, make an addition or a subtraction, i stand corrected. Thanks. |

I met Precious (not real name) and we started dating around early april 2015, which was a semester ago in my school. We are both from average backgrounds. All through out the previous semester, she was always at my rented appartment off campus (like couples life ) although she has her own apartment which she shares with her sister. We do everything together; walking to school, eating. Playing, enjoying etc. As the guy, i was catering for both of us from my stipend allowances and money i earn from jobs i do for my clients online so i was rarely broke. We didn't have much, but we had enough. Throughout a whole semester, i never could prove that my gf had a bank account, she never talked about visiting d bank or atm, neither did i ever saw a bank sms of any sort on her phone (I just got to observe, i wasn't checking her phone due to suspision). At a point i had to ask her if she wasn't a ghost, cos she had no financial record that i could pick upon. But all these while, she uses money to do some stuffs, which i didn't give to her which made me know that she receives money. There was no problem at all until this semester, when i stopped doing online works due to my academics, and then due to the fact that she stays with me, my allowances no longer have impact on "our" expenses. Now its always like whenever am broke, then she's broke. There aint no remedy of no sort. The allowance for one person is been spent by two, the foodstuff for one person is been consumed by two and now its like we are living from hand to mouth. Although at countable times, she had brought some bit of foodstuffs from her house for us, we always remained broke until i get money. Now whenever she receives money, she plans it and pays all manner of church dues, association due, department and faculty due, dues for church vest etc. Whereas when i receive money, i get foodstuffs and other necessary things we would need, thereby neglecting my own bills and "dues". She even always indulge me on what to do with the money cos she's always aware when i get money but i do not always know about hers. Recently i tried confronting her on the issue, and she was kinda "lackadaisika", telling me that am the guy and its my responsibility and all that. Truth be told, i love this girl, but she's wrecking me financially (at least for now), what can i do about it? Is she a wife material? Say i become fortunate in future, can i still pick on her? Am i been irresponsible? Please relate your opinions in the most sensible manner, no insults allowed. Thanks Cc lalasticlala 1 Like |

Business / Is Bank Transfer From South Africa Possible To A Local Nigerian Account? by NoLoveLost(m): 3:26pm On Feb 24, 2015 |
Hello business gurus, am really a novice when it comes to international money transfer. Actually I haven't tried sending someone money abroad, and this is the first time someone wants to pay me from south africa. I actually gave him my local bank account details (Skye Bank) and then yesterday, he sent someone to credit my bank account, But till present I haven't gotten any alert. Today he went to his own bank (ABSA in south africa) and made a payment to my same local bank account. And after some hours now I haven't received any alert. Either the one of yesterday and today. Please what to do? Is it not possible for me to get paid to my local account from there? And how many hours should it have taken averagely? A huge sum is involved I will appreciate your help. |
