TravelThe 10 Most Beautiful Beaches In Albania (2024) by Nomadicabroad(op): 7:37am On Aug 04, 2024
Albania’s beaches hit the headlines a few years ago, when the first travellers ventured to discover this country that had recently opened up to tourism. Since then, their fame has grown and Albania has become a very popular destination , and not only, especially in the summer. Along the southern coast of the country, between the towns of Dhermi, Saranda and Ksamil , there are, in fact, some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean.

In some places, unfortunately, wild concreting has ruined the coast a bit, but by choosing carefully where to go and, above all, avoiding July and August, you can enjoy a sea and amazing beaches . In this article, therefore, I will accompany you on a journey through crystal clear waters and golden sands, revealing the ten most beautiful beaches in Albania (in my opinion, obviously).

The 10 Most Beautiful Beaches in Albania (2024)
1. Grama Bay
2. Sant Andreas Bay
3 Gjipe Beach
4. Pigeons Cave
5. Jale Beach
6. Acquarium Beach
7. Livadhi Beach
8. Porto Palermo Beach
9. Mirror Beach
10. Pulëbardha Beach

Beautiful Beaches in Albania, between Dhermi, Saranda and Ksamil
PREMISE: I advise you to avoid Valona , Durres and Saranda , unless you are a fan of wild cementing and super crowded establishments with music at full blast…tunz tunz tunz. Between Saranda and Ksamil, however, there are several truly beautiful beaches.

Half of the beaches I recommend are only reachable on foot or by boat (Grama Bay, Gjipe, Sant Andreas, Pigeons Cave, Acquarium Beach). Jale Beach, Palermo, Livadhi, Mirror and Pulëbardha, on the other hand, can also be reached by car. In Albania, on the equipped beaches they practically do not leave a centimetre of free beach and you will be forced to take an umbrella and sunbeds. The price varies depending on the beach and the location: it starts from 10/15 euros (5/7 per person) up to 60 euros or more in Saranda and on some beaches near Dhermi (e.g. on the Green Coast).

The 10 Most Beautiful Beaches in Albania (2024)

1. Grama Bay
Starting from the north, the first Albanian beach that I absolutely want to recommend is Grama Bay . As you can see from the map, Grama Bay is located along the coast below Vlora and can only be reached by boat. It is a very protected bay with a heavenly beach of white pebbles and sand. The color of the water is surreal (the colors reminded me of Maya Bay in Phi Phi Island ) and the scenery is the same. By walking for a few minutes you can also reach a beautiful viewpoint. On the beach there is a small restaurant, but I think it is only open in the height of summer (July and August), ask before arriving. Boat trips and water taxis to reach it leave from Dhermi and Himare.

2. Sant Andreas Bay
Proceeding south, another bay with a wonderful little beach is Sant Andreas , which, like the previous one, can be reached by boat or via a beautiful coastal path that starts from the little church of Palases . The path is quite long ( here you can find the Wikiloc track with all the altimetric data ) and you will have to bring a lot of water and food because you will not encounter anything along the way. Let’s say that, if you don’t feel like walking under the sun (it takes 2 to 3 hours), it is preferable to reach it by taking part in an excursion or with a water taxi. The beach is small, made of pebbles, but it is truly a jewel.

3. Gjipe Beach
Gjipe beach is, rightly, among the most famous on the Albanian coast and certainly among the most scenic. The beach, beautiful and wide, is in fact located at the end of a canyon and is protected by 70-meter-high rock walls. To reach it you have to walk 30 minutes on a beautiful sunny path that starts from this parking lot . The strongest alternative is to follow the path, much longer, that starts from the village of Vuno, otherwise there are always water taxis and boat trips (which also include the beautiful Pirate Cave). The fame of this beach has also increased thanks to the fact that, for some years, part of the Kala Festival , an (electronic) music festival held in June, has been held there. In the summer months there are a couple of kiosks where you can buy drinks.

TravelWhere To Stay In Doha, Qatar: Best Neighborhoods And Hotels (2024) by Nomadicabroad(op): 3:53pm On Jul 28, 2024
The location of your accommodation is a strategic point when planning a trip. And even though it is a relatively small city, deciding where to stay in Doha can be a difficult task.

To help you choose your hotel, I have prepared a guide with the best neighborhoods to stay in Doha.

But first, we need to make one thing clear: accommodation in Doha is not cheap. There are no hostels and Airbnb is still quite limited in the country. But don’t be discouraged! In this post, I will give you some good tips to help you save money when booking your hotel.

Where to Stay in Doha: Best Neighborhoods and Hotels Tips
The best neighborhoods and areas to stay in Doha are: Souq Waqif , Msheireb , West Bay , The Pearl and Old Airport . Simple and easy!

However, each of these areas has its own characteristics and is suitable for different profiles and budgets. Therefore, it is interesting to think about what you expect from your trip and how much you are willing to pay for it.

Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that the cost of living in Doha is high. And, as expected, this is reflected in the cost of accommodation in the Qatari capital. Therefore, even the most economical accommodation options are not the cheapest.

With these premises in mind, it’s time to decide which is the best choice for your trip. Below, we’ll talk more about the neighborhoods we recommend for staying in Doha and suggest good accommodation options for different budgets – from the most economical to the most comfortable. Let’s get started!

Souq Waqif
The area around Souq Waqif is considered by many to be the best area to stay in Doha. The main reason is that it is very central and well located . From here, it will be very easy to explore the rest of the city. You will be in the historic center of the capital of Qatar, which will guarantee a very authentic experience of the Middle Eastern landscapes.

Souq Waqif, which is the city’s large market, is surrounded by three smaller areas: Al Souq , Al Salata and Al Najada . All of these are good choices for your hotel. Not only is it within walking distance of the souq itself, but you’ll also be very close to other attractions. Some of these include the Museum of Islamic Art , the National Museum of Qatar and the Corniche , a pleasant seafront promenade.

To top it off, the market itself is served by a metro station (golden line), which is less than 30 minutes from Doha International Airport (with a transfer at Msheireb station ).

Check out our suggestions for where to stay in the Souq Waqif area of Doha:

Economic

Kingsgate Hotel : A standout in the budget category (by Doha standards), it has spacious rooms with kitchenettes in some accommodations. It is a short walk from the Souq metro station.

Good cost-benefit

Ramada Old Town : This is a very traditional hotel, with somewhat dated but comfortable facilities. The rooms are very spacious and the hotel offers a good breakfast (included in some rates), as well as a restaurant. It is a short walk from the Souq and Corniche;

Hampton By Hilton Doha Old Town : This business-class hotel is located 500 meters from the National Museum of Qatar. Its advantages include free private parking, breakfast included in the rates, 24-hour reception and an on-site restaurant.
Comfort

Souq Waqif Boutique Tivoli : The sky’s the limit when it comes to luxury options in Doha, but this Tivoli chain unit is worth a mention. It follows the original architecture of the region with sophistication, offers 5-star service and is located in the Souq itself;

Shaza Doha : Offers excellent value for money for a 5-star hotel. With spacious rooms and all the amenities expected of a hotel of this category, it also stands out for its excellent location, one block from the Souq and two blocks from the Corniche.

TravelWhere To Stay In Kyoto: Best Neighborhoods And Tips For Accommodation by Nomadicabroad(op): 5:06am On Jul 20, 2024
Kyoto is one of the most famous cities in Japan, due to its history since the time when it was the country’s capital and due to its imperial past. Kyoto is very big and diverse, and it would be a sin to visit Japan and not stop by the city. In our planning, we spent more days here than in Tokyo, because there was so much to do.

To help you choose where to stay in Kyoto, we created a list of alternatives around the city. We will introduce you to 5 neighborhoods and areas that have the best accommodation and amenities for a perfect stay.

In addition to the neighborhoods, we will also present hotel options for different tastes and budgets.

Where To Stay In Kyoto: Best Neighborhoods and Tips for Accommodation

5 Best Places to Stay in Kyoto
To help you decide where to stay in Kyoto, we have created this informative guide about five different areas of the city. Each of these regions has its own particularities and attractions, and we will show you all these details below.

We will consider aspects such as location, proximity to tourist attractions, ease of public transport and variety of food options. This way you can evaluate what best fits your travel profile and choose the perfect place to stay in Kyoto.

Next, we’ll get to know each of these neighborhoods a little more, covering their main advantages for accommodation in Kyoto.

1. Kyoto Eki – Kyoto Station (Shimogyo)
Located on the outskirts of Kyoto Station, the Shimogyo area offers the greatest advantage of easy access to public transport. It is a practical choice for visitors who want to explore the city and its surrounding areas.

With a wide selection of hotels, shops and restaurants there, those staying there stay in Downtown Kyoto (center), which is close to the Kyoto Tower.

In this region you will find all the amenities you need during your stay.

Convenient and central
Although in terms of beauty this is not the most interesting place in the city, Shimogyo’s strategic location makes up for all this with ease of transportation.

From Kyoto Station you can quickly reach all popular tourist spots. From there there are also connections to Osaka and Nara, in addition to having access to the central station, where you can catch the bullet train to the rest of the country.

For these reasons, Shimogyo is a practical alternative when it comes to knowing where to stay in Kyoto if you are looking for convenient transportation.

Hotels near Kyoto Station
In the central Kyoto area, our hotel recommendations are:

Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo : Very elegant hotel, with reviews that highlight, in addition to the convenient location, the staff and accommodations.
Hotel Androoms Kyoto Shichijo : It is a good hotel, of a more economical standard, with good value for money. It has modern, spacious rooms and a free bicycle rental service.
Hotel Vischio Kyoto : Offers comfort, cleanliness and quiet public areas.

2. Shijō and Karasuma
The area around Gion Shijo and Karasuma subway stations is the commercial center outside of Downtown Kyoto. This region has popular tourist attractions, such as the famous Nishiki Market.

Additionally, this area is known for its active nightlife. Here you will find several restaurants, bars and shops that are open at night.

Although it is not close to Kyoto Station, where the bullet train lines (shinkansen) that connect to the rest of Japan arrive and leave, the Karasuma subway line passes through there. From there you can connect to the city center, and also to Osaka via the Hankyu-Kyoto line.

10 Best Museums in London to visit
London is a city that combines history and modernity, and its museums are a central part of this cultural mix. Essential for understanding life in the city, they open doors to different aspects of knowledge, from Egyptian relics to works of modern art.

For the undecided visitor faced with so many options, the diversity of the museums is a strong point: there are places focused on science, fashion, military history and even children’s experiences; spaces that represent both local culture and international traditions.

Each museum showcases a distinct aspect of London, ensuring there is something interesting for everyone in the city’s cultural scene.

In the following paragraphs, each of these museums in London will be detailed, revealing the characteristics that make them essential for understanding the city’s culture and history.

1. British Museum
The British Museum is the first and one of the most controversial in the world. This is due to the fact that most of the artifacts presented there were obtained illicitly. To be clearer, the objects ended up there after being stolen while the United Kingdom colonized several regions of the planet. But its collection is still magnificent, making this one of the most incredible museums I’ve ever visited.

The museum offers a reading of human history and culture, ranging from the first societies to the present day. Opened in 1759 after the acquisition of Hans Sloane’s collection, it evolved to become a world reference in cultural collections.

Currently, this museum displays more than 7 million artifacts representing different civilizations and historical eras. The variety of pieces is vast and includes everything from Ancient Egyptian items to medieval European artifacts.

Occupying third place in the ranking of the most visited museums in the world, it is only behind the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York.

In this museum, you can dedicate several hours or even an entire day to exploring the permanent or temporary galleries, given the size of its space. It’s helpful to plan ahead to make the most of your experience at the museum, which is open daily from 10am to 5:30pm.

2. Tate Britain
Tate Britain is a museum of British art, covering the period from medieval London, in the Tudor era, to the present day. When visiting the museum, you will take a journey through the country’s art history.

Established in 1887, it is located next to the River Thames, close to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben.

The pieces are presented in three segments in the permanent collection:

British historical works, representative of the classical periods;
British modernism that shows stylistic and social changes;
and the contemporary section with recent artistic trends from the United Kingdom.

Tate Britain is open every day from 10am to 6pm, providing convenience for those planning an in-depth visit or just a brief stroll around the area. Entry to the permanent exhibitions is free.

Travel13 Best Hotels In Khao Lak Thailand (2024) by Nomadicabroad(op): 11:05am On Jun 22, 2024
We love the value for money holiday in Khao Lak. Hotels in Khao Lak are not as expensive as in Phuket, but the quality is high.

In Khao Lak there are many luxury 5-star hotels on the first line with their own beach, inexpensive four-star hotels 10 minutes from the sea, as well as villas for rent. The quality of the resorts is not inferior to those in Phuket, but the price of the vacation will be several times cheaper.

Even during the peak tourist season, you won’t have to worry about finding a place to stay. In the low season, you can happily stay in cozy hotels with a swimming pool and within walking distance from the sea for around 1000 baht per day ($30) with breakfast.

From our experience, we recommend several hotels where we ourselves have stayed this year or in the past. We recommend booking hotels in Khao Lak in advance while prices remain reasonable, as the number of tourists is expected to increase next season.

When traveling, we often have to connect to public WIFI , whether in airports, train stations, hostels or even cafes. Very practical, these networks do not require any password and are therefore open to everyone. Except that the problem is that they are not at all secure .

Your phone and computer then become easy prey for hackers hanging around nearby. With a minimum of computer knowledge, they can in fact quite easily penetrate your devices to steal your personal information, such as your bank card data .

What’s the point of VPN when traveling in all this? As explained in this VPN definition , it encrypts your data , making it unreadable to malicious souls. With it, no more risk of hacking, you can surf the Internet with complete peace of mind.

Stay anonymous while traveling with a VPN
You’re probably aware, but when we browse the web, most of our actions are tracked . By our friend Google, already, but also in certain countries by the governments themselves. This is the case of Saudi Arabia or Russia for example.

If you go there, even as a tourist, know that you automatically waive any notion of confidentiality and agree to have your private life under control . Downloads, communications, sites consulted… in short, the slightest of your virtual actions can be analyzed.

Whether or not you have something to reproach yourself for, it is in any case not very pleasant to feel like you are constantly being watched . Once again, the VPN when traveling will therefore be used to hide your IP address as well as your exact location . With him, you are invisible and perfectly anonymous!

Countering censorship in certain countries
If in World, We are relatively free in our movements (physical and digital), we sometimes forget that this is far from being the case everywhere. Many countries apply internet censorship and block access to popular sites and applications.

TravelThe 5 Best Couchsurfing Alternatives In 2024 by Nomadicabroad(op): 7:07am On May 31, 2024
Couchsurfing allowed me to have unexpected experiences while traveling. Unfortunately, the site has changed a lot, I give you 5 alternatives.

The page you are on right now has been praising Couchsurfing since 2013 (date of publication). But faced with the current situation (Couchsurfing is becoming paid, Covid-19 is rearing its ugly head at the start of 2020, etc.), I had to completely rewrite the article to give you my opinion on it.

And after hearing a steady stream of negative couchsurfing experiences (especially in the comments here), I thought it would be interesting to explore some alternatives.

Please note: I am not saying that Couchsurfing is dead. I’ve had some great experiences thanks to this site,. But today there are alternatives which, in my opinion, are more interesting.

Table of Contents
What is couchsurfing?
What’s wrong with Couchsurfing?
Best Couchsurfing Alternatives in 2024
AIRBNB
BEWELCOME – BEST FOR BACKPACKERS
TRUSTROOTS – BEST FOR HITCHHIKERS
MOVINGWORLDS – BEST FOR VOLUNTEER WORKERS
TRUSTEDHOUSESITTERS, HELPX, WORKAWAY – EXCHANGE YOUR TIME FOR ACCOMMODATION
Conclusion, nothing is really free

What is couchsurfing?
The basic idea is simple; All you have to do is register on the Couchsurfing.com website and fill out your profile to have the opportunity to “squat” on a sofa on the other side of the world (the English word “couch” simply means “sofa”).

The main idea, which contributed to the success of this mode of travel, is the cultural exchange and hospitality between several people from different backgrounds.

What’s wrong with Couchsurfing?
Like many guys getting into Couchsurfing, it’s hard to get past that first step of having a good profile – getting rated so hosts know you’re not a freak.

Unless you pay for Couchsurfing to validate your profile, you will most often come across as a potential psychopath in the eyes of potential hosts. Women who host guests in their homes prefer women, and too few male guests will accept another man into their home. And when it does, there are sometimes character incompatibility issues.

This does not mean that nomadic women, families or couples have an easier time finding their happiness; Couchsurfing can be dangerous (or weird) for women and children, but it’s not my area of expertise.

When I talked about it in a Facebook group for male travelers, I discovered that it’s even harder to find hosts and get the much-needed positive reviews when you’re not white .

They explained to me that people weren’t racist , just more likely to open their doors to a white person, especially if the traveler was male. At least that’s their hypothesis. I can’t speak personally about these situations, but they seem plausible to me.

You can blame cultural familiarity or media bias, it doesn’t matter. Non-white male travelers face all the same problems.

Best Couchsurfing Alternatives in 2024
I’ll be honest, I’ve scoured the net for hours looking for completely free solutions. But all the sites I came across were either dull or dated, to the point where I wondered if anyone was still using them. I don’t want to suggest sites to you that I wouldn’t use myself.

This is why on this page these are not replacement solutions, but alternatives that I have already used.

Don’t hesitate to give me your opinion in the comments.

AIRBNB
I know ! Airbnb is not a real alternative to couchsurfing  ! All rentals are chargeable! Let me tell you why this platform is on my list.

When I was traveling in Asia, all the other sites and platforms failed me at one point or another. I found myself in trouble sometimes and could always turn to Airbnb. So far I have always had luck and no problems.

This is an excellent plan B , I advise you to install the app on your phone. You’ll even get free Airbnb credit if you sign up using this link today.

When is the JR Pass worth it? Does it really save money? Is it easy to buy and use?
Read on to find out!

The JR pass on the practical side
Before leaving for my very first trip to Japan, I realized that there was little or no information about Japanese train tickets. It was only during a trip to Asia and through another traveler that I discovered the existence of the Japan Rail Pass, a nominative train subscription specially designed for foreign travelers who want to travel through Japan from one side to the other. . After embarking on a series of calculations, I finally decided to buy one, just to see with my own eyes and then be able to write this article for you.

To put it simply, the Japan Rail Pass is a train subscription reserved for foreigners which allows travel on all trains of the same railway company: Japan Railways, also known as JR.

There are several JR Pass durations: one, two or three weeks to choose from depending on your plans, your budget and your itinerary. The practical thing with this subscription is that you can buy a JR Pass online well before your trip without activating it directly. The first time you use it marks the beginning of the validity of the pass for one, two or three weeks depending on the subscription chosen.

Even though Zagreb is the largest city in the country, it is also what we call a capital on a human scale. Here, where you choose to stay will mainly depend on the type of trip you plan to do.

The historic district of Zagreb ( Gornji Grad ) and the Kaptol district will often be the best choice for travelers who are discovering the city for the first time and want to do numerous cultural visits. This is why, so that you can choose the right place to stay in Zagreb with full knowledge of the facts, I will tell you below about all these neighborhoods, their atmospheres and what they can offer you. Of course, the price of accommodation is also a criterion to take into account, and I will also tell you about the most interesting area for people traveling on a tight budget.

But in Zagreb, you will often have the opportunity to find establishments that offer particularly good value for money, especially if you don’t wait until the last minute to take care of this issue. Book as soon as possible if you want to be able to access the most attractive accommodation, and sometimes even have the opportunity to take advantage of very advantageous rates.

MY GOOD DEAL FOR ACCOMMODATION IN ZAGREB ✨
If you are looking for a good deal for accommodation during your stay in Zagreb and you prefer to have your independence, I recommend the Studio Apartments City & Style which is located in the center of Zagreb, less than one kilometer from King Tomislav Square.

This establishment offers modern, comfortable and fully equipped studios with kitchen (dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, etc.) from €80 per night. You also have the option to request an airport shuttle service for an additional fee 😉

Gornji Grad, the historic center
This historic district in the center of Zagreb stands on the hill of the same name. It is also sometimes called the “upper town”. When visiting Zagreb, it is one of the must-see places, and without a doubt one of the most pleasant areas where you can set down your suitcases.

Gornji Grad is home to Jelačić Square , the most important and certainly the most beautiful square in Zagreb. Here you can also discover iconic monuments and sites such as the Church of Saint Mark , a superb 13th century building, the Lotrščak Tower , the Hrvatsko narodno kazalište National Theater or the Mirogoj cemetery , where some of the greatest personalities rest. from the country.
On the streets of this district you can see many beautiful buildings with typical Austro-Hungarian architecture. You will have the opportunity to take very beautiful walks, notably in the magnificent Zrinjevac Park , or by discovering the Zagreb Botanical Garden.

In terms of accommodation, there are quite a few, but in the historic parts of the capital, you can mainly find guest rooms. If you want to access hotels or even youth hostels, you will have to book even earlier, otherwise you risk not finding a free room.

TravelIs The Lisboa Card Worth It? Lisbon Card Experience 2024 by Nomadicabroad(op): 8:36am On May 11, 2024
If you want to visit Lisbon, this tourist pass is essential. This article details everything you need to know about this Lisbon city pass.

Lisbon, capital of Portugal , never ceases to surprise and delight its visitors with its authenticity. With the charm of its large steep streets and alleys, its colorful azulejos, its gastronomic specialties, the sunny city attracts thousands of visitors each year eager to wander its seven hills and discover its treasures. A weekend is barely enough to discover this captivating city full of museums, monasteries, castles among atypical bars and restaurants.

If you want to discover as much as possible during your stay, I recommend two things: good shoes, and the Lisboa Card . Indeed, given the extent of Lisbon, the Lisboa Card will make it easier for you to visit the most beautiful monuments and will make your travel easier. Because the city is big and full of riches, so you might as well not miss a bit!

So in this article I will talk to you about the advantages but also the prices and how the Lisboa Card works. You will also know when and where to buy the Lisboa Card at the best price ( personally I recommend this site ), while giving you my opinion on the Lisbon city pass.

What is the Lisboa Card? Is Lisboa Card Worth it
The Lisboa Card is the city’s official tourist pass. If you want to see as many monuments, museums, and get around as possible, this is the ideal city pass to get to visit Lisbon.

Thanks to it, you will be able to benefit from full free access to public transport as well as certain major train lines , free or reduced entry to certain tourist places and attractions (such as the Jeronimos Monastery, the Tower of Belem, the Santa Justa elevator…) , and priority entry queues over a flexible period, depending on how long you plan to stay in Lisbon.

It is therefore an advantageous choice in terms of budget if we add up the entry prices for all the monuments and sites. Most of the city’s major points of interest are included in this Lisbon city pass with classic public transport card prices.

Easy to use, the Lisboa Card comes in the form of a magnetic card the size of your bank card, easy to slip into your bag.
You can get it from different agencies in the city, and it activates automatically upon first use. Simple, economical and effective!

How much does it cost ? The different prices of the Lisboa Card
Flexible, the Lisboa Card is available in three formats of different durations.

It is activated from its first use , either on public transport or on the tourist sites included in the package.
Here are the different prices at which you can find the Lisboa Card:

Duration 24 hours: €21 for an adult , €13.50 for children aged 4 to 15
Duration 48 hours: €35 for an adult , €19.50 for children aged 4 to 15
Duration 72 hours: €44 for an adult , €23 for children from 4 to 15 years old
This Lisbon city pass is completely free for children under 4 years old.

Reserve the Lisboa Card

When and where to buy the Lisboa Card?
You can buy the Lisboa Card well before your trip since it is only activated the first time you use it! I advise you to take it online whenever you want before your departure, on this partner site .

Indicate the day on which you plan to collect it once you arrive in Lisbon. Then all you have to do is go with your voucher to one of the Ask Me Lisboa agencies to collect your ticket.

You can also buy the Lisboa Card on site in dedicated agencies, but in my opinion it is less profitable in terms of saving time!

My advice?[/b]Buy your Lisboa Card online and collect it directly at Lisbon airport on the day of your arrival at the agency located in the arrivals hall .

More details in my article on how to reach the center of Lisbon from the airport !

Then it’s up to you to activate it on public transport to reach the city center, or only during your first visit.

This list will help you in case you want to know what protocols a good traveler should follow. An important bonus is that you should always research the culture before your trips to be aware of what you can and cannot do once you get off the plane.

10 characteristics of bad travelers
These are the 10 characteristics of the most annoying tourists you may encounter while traveling abroad:

The traffic offender
People who do not respect traffic in other countries surely create chaos in their own countries too. This not only applies to those who drive cars, but also to those who use motorcycles, bicycles, any other type of transportation, and those who are pedestrians.

For these people, traffic lights should only be obeyed by vehicles. He believes that “pedestrians have the right of way,” but they do not respect crosswalks. I have seen people abroad cross streets right in front of the sign that says “no jaywalking”, with a large pedestrian bridge a few meters away.

It doesn’t matter if you cross in a certain way in your country, when you are abroad, you will have to get used to crossing as they do in that place. However, if you are traveling to a country where its own traffic rules are more dangerous, always try to follow the logic that will allow you to stay safe. Always learn the positive things about a country, and leave your positive lessons too.

2. The inveterate photographer
Taking photos is one of the most beautiful ways to keep your memories intact. There’s nothing like coming home and looking at all the photographs to relive every moment. There’s no reason not to! But, some people just don’t understand when it’s appropriate to take photos and when it’s not.

This can be one of the most embarrassing characteristics of a bad traveler, as they will stop traffic to get the best photo, or ask locals at a restaurant to take a photo of them with their food. Even worse, you will take photos at religious sites without first making sure if it is acceptable to capture videos or photos at that location. Never ignore signs prohibiting cameras, especially if you are at historic sites or museums. Don’t wait to be told or reprimanded, check the site first before taking out your camera.

There are things that we can keep in our memory without needing a photograph, because they can be situations so dazzling that just by closing your eyes you can perceive it again, like that great stone Buddha that I saw in the Seokguram Grotto .

Although there is a lot of excitement and excitement when you are traveling, visiting a country involves more than just taking selfies.

The one who looks for friends (exaggeratedly)
Making friends abroad is incredible. You must do it! But please don’t be like these types of bad tourists who become so eager to have local friends that they exaggeratedly exchange information with the first person they meet without giving them any space. Do you want to make friends or scare them? Try to be more subtle with the way you approach people. Try to create lasting friendships that really contribute to your life and you to theirs. Offer space to the people you talk to, and it will be much safer that you won’t be labeled as awkward. After all, your plan is for them to ask you to meet again.

TravelN26 Vs Revolut – Which Is Better In 2024? by Nomadicabroad(op): 9:02am On Apr 24, 2024
Are you going on a trip soon and want to avoid bank charges abroad?Finding the best bank for traveling is far from easy. It took me years to finally find a satisfactory service. In this article I draw up

a comparison between N26 and Revolut to help you choose between these two neo-banks

N26 Vs REVOLUT
N26 BANK PROFILE
N26 is a German online bank created in 2013 which wants to expand throughout Europe and reach 18-35 year olds (but of course anyone can register, even if you are 100 years old) . Today, N26 is enjoying great success since it had more than 2 million customers at the start of 2019.

REVOLUT BANK PROFILE
Revolut is an international online bank created in 2014 recognized for its numerous applications at the cutting edge of the latest technologies. It arrived in France in September 2018 and can claim to already have 400,000 customers in France and more than 3 million worldwide.

THE BASIC N26 OFFER
Opening the account and MasterCard are free
You will be able to withdraw cash in euros for free up to 5 times per month (withdrawals are then charged at 2 euros)
You will be able to pay by credit card for free and unlimitedly whatever the currency.
For example, if you are in Spain and you withdraw 100 euros from the ATM, N26 will charge you 0 euros, because it does not charge withdrawals in euros (but from the sixth withdrawal of the same month you will be charged 2 euros). On the other hand, if you travel to Sweden or Thailand and you withdraw 100 BATH from the ATM for the latter, N26 will charge you 1.70% in withdrawal fees and you will therefore be charged 101.70 BATH. Once again, bank card payments remain completely free and unlimited, regardless of the currency.

Who is this offer for and is it of real interest?
In my case, this offer does not really suit me, because I am constantly on the road. On the other hand, it may be suitable for those who go on a trip for a few weeks, or even one or two months a year and mainly in Europe. Please note that no real bank currently offers such low foreign currency withdrawals!

THE BASIC REVOLUT OFFER
Opening a free UK account
Withdrawal from ATMs free of charge up to €200 per month
Payments in over 150 currencies at the interbank exchange rate
Revolut bank offers a multi-currency payment system that is really practical when traveling.

Who is this offer for and is it of real interest?
This offer does not suit me either because the withdrawal limit is too low and payments in other currencies still cost money, even if there are no hidden fees.

TravelIs Swiss Travel Pass Worth It? Experience (2024) by Nomadicabroad(op): 8:56am On Apr 20, 2024
Who has never dreamed of taking a train trip through Switzerland? Are you packed and want to know if the Swiss Travel Pass is worth it? In this post I will explain how the Swiss Travel Pass works, an unlimited public transport pass in Switzerland. And I will help you evaluate whether it makes sense to buy it for your trip to Switzerland.

The first time I went to Switzerland, I bought my tickets on one of those super cheap deals, and as I had a few days to spare in Europe, I thought: why not?!

Two weeks before the trip, one of those coincidences in life happened, and Gustavo found out that he would have to present a project in Switzerland on exactly the same days that I would be there, I changed all my plans to travel alone across the country and we went together to a couple’s trip and work at the same time.

We arrived in Geneva on a Saturday afternoon and on Sunday we would have to cross the country towards Basel, where Gustavo’s meetings would take place. While he went to work, I took the opportunity to visit other cities. When planning my itinerary I decided to buy a Swiss Travel Pass , as I did the calculations and saw that it was worth it.

Here I will show you how to assess whether the Swiss Travel Pass is worth it for your trip.

What’s it like to travel around Switzerland by train?
Switzerland is a small country, but its rail system is vast and efficient, connecting cities and towns across the country. This means you can explore multiple destinations in a single trip, without worrying about car rentals or complicated itineraries.

On a train journey through Switzerland, punctuality is a guarantee. This means you can plan your itinerary with ease, without worrying about delays. And the best of all? Each leg of the journey offers a new and incredible landscape for you to admire. From the majestic alpine mountains and their snow-capped peaks to the green valleys and crystal-clear lakes. The charming Swiss villages are a highlight in themselves, I fell in love.

Swiss trains are modern and comfortable, with ample seating and amenities such as onboard Wi-Fi (on many trains). And the train stations are true convenience centers, with shops, restaurants and luggage services.

Another advantage is that in Switzerland, the distances between the main cities are short, which makes day trips comfortable and practical. For example, from Lucerne to Bern or from Geneva to Montreux, you will spend much less time traveling by train and more time enjoying each destination. The country was made to be explored by train.

How the Swiss Travel Pass works
The Swiss Travel Pass is a ticket that gives free access to public transport throughout Switzerland. It covers trains, subways, buses and boats. You can use it for both intra-city and intercity transportation.

The cost of the Swiss Travel Pass varies depending on the number of days and the class chosen. You can purchase for 3, 4, 6, 8 or 15 consecutive days, in first or second class. Young people under 25 should buy the Swiss Travel Pass Youth , which costs 30% cheaper than the Swiss Pass Travel.

Swiss Travel Pass Flex: what’s the difference?
The Swiss Travel Pass Flex has the same benefits as the Swiss Travel Pass, the difference is that it is not a consecutive pass, that is, you choose the number of days you want to use 3, 4, 6, 8 or 15 days, and you have period of one month to use .

It costs a little more, but the advantage is that if you don’t use it on a day during your trip, that day isn’t wasted. For example: Bern is a small city and you can get to know it all just by walking. With the Swiss Travel Pass Flex, you don’t miss that day.

It is also common for hotels in some Swiss cities, Bern is one of them, to give you a pass for unlimited train or electric cable car travel in the region. So, when using the Swiss Travel Pass Flex you don’t miss that day.

Swiss Pass Travel Benefits
In my opinion, the two main benefits are: being able to take as many public transport as I want , as the quantity is unlimited ; and also not having to worry about an itinerary tied to the X timetable that I bought the train ticket, as in Switzerland there are hourly trains to the main cities, so I can easily adapt my itinerary.

Here is a list of other really cool benefits:

Free travel on premium panoramic trains (on Glacier Express, Bernina Express, Gotthard Panorama Express and Palm Express trains – seat reservation and/or fee required .)
Free use of public transport in more than 90 cities.
Free entry to more than 500 museums.

Travel3 Best Esim For Australia To Traveling In 2024 by Nomadicabroad(op): 8:56am On Apr 18, 2024
Are you going to Australia soon and are you looking for the most practical and affordable solution to be able to connect to the Internet for the duration of your stay? Internet access can quickly represent a significant expense to take into account in the price of a trip to Australia . Among all the solutions available, the Australia prepaid SIM card is most of the time the one that best meets the needs of travelers. In this guide, you will find all the information to stay connected during a stay in Australia , the different options, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the best Australia SIM card offers 📲

Why choose a prepaid SIM card for a trip to Australia?
Whether to pass the time during long journeys, to stay in touch with friends and family, to find your way using a GPS or to share your travel memories on social networks , being able to connect to the Internet during a stay or a road trip in Australia , or anywhere else abroad has become practically essential.

Today, instant messaging applications like WhatsApp , Messenger or Telegram , to name a few, are very widespread, to the point where having mobile data is often sufficient and it is no longer at all necessary to be able to make traditional international calls.

Prepaid SIM cards allow all of this. In addition, they are simple to use and without surprises, you pay for a certain amount of data (sometimes unlimited) and for a specific time, and you do not risk exceeding this package and ruining yourself in roaming costs . This is why prepaid SIM cards are often the most interesting solution for using the Internet while traveling in Australia .

Today, we even find Australia eSIM cards , dematerialized SIM cards, which offer the same advantages, but are even more practical, since you can receive them by email in a few minutes and start using them immediately, without even needing to remove your regular SIM card from your phone.

MY OPINION IN A FEW WORDS 💬

If I can recommend an interesting SIM card offer for abroad, the prepaid SIM card plan for Australia offered by Holafly is in my opinion the best option. For a period of 7 days for example, you can benefit from unlimited data throughout the country for a price of €27 . You will keep your local SIM card and phone number, so you can easily communicate with WhatsApp or iMessage, from anywhere, without restrictions. However, remember to check the compatibility of your phone ! All compatible models are available on the official Holafly list 🙂

Where to buy a prepaid SIM card?
To buy your SIM card for Australia , you will have several options, some require you to do it a little in advance, while for others you can sometimes even make the purchase on site when you arrive in the country:

Buy a classic prepaid SIM card online . SIM cards in physical format can still be found on several online stores. For example, on Amazon, several options are offered and some may be interesting. You can also find interesting options for trips to several countries (Australia + New Zealand in particular). However, these cards must be purchased in advance, as they are sent by post, and if there is a problem on site, you will not be sure that you will be able to easily contact efficient customer service .
Buy an eSim card online . Ordering a SIM card in digital format like that of Holafly is the most practical and quick solution, since you will not need to travel, or even wait for delivery. In addition, this will allow you to start using your connection as soon as you set foot in Australia 🙂 On the other hand, this requires having a phone compatible with this type of card.
Buy a prepaid SIM card locally in Australia . This is not very surprising, in the favorite country of Backpackers, “Prepaid” cards are easily found. All major operators offer card packages that can be purchased in their on-site stores and sometimes even in local stores. These physical cards have the advantage of providing a local phone number , and most of the time they allow unlimited calls and text messages. On the other hand, they are limited on the amount of mobile data . Their price is also higher than those of Australian eSIM cards .
How to make the right choice of Australia SIM card?
Choosing a prepaid SIM card for abroad can sometimes be more complex than expected. Depending on the compatibility of your smartphone and the type of SIM card you choose, the options will not be the same. But to really make a definitive choice, it is important to take other criteria into account.

The price is of course to be monitored, but keep in mind that the most expensive offers are not necessarily the best and that some very affordable offers do not lack quality 🙂

The essential criterion in a country like Australia is the choice of mobile network . This depends on the mobile operator which offers the card, or which one has entered into partnership agreements with the company which sells the card. There are 3 main operators in Australia, which practically shares the entire market:
