Foreign Affairs › Re: Syrians Take Shelter In Russian Base As Civil War Erupts (Photos) by NothingDoMe: 9:11am On Mar 08, 2025 |
owobokiri: The country will now face exactly the same thing Libya went through. A slow and systematic destruction..., well coordinated, ruthlessly executed. Lakatia is about to become the new Sirt in Libya or Fallujah in Iraq. They made the big mistake when they turned tails and allowed the "islamists" to take over.
There is no way Isreal will allow that Syria to function effectively again, unless you have a leadership willing to be pawns in Damascus. The islamists might even have had Jewishsupport, but I'mnotsure they are willing to go the full hugand say recognise Isreas sovereignty over the Gollan heights..., and that's where the rub is..
Syria is way too close to Isreal, has a long border with Isreal and is huge enough to provide a comfortable base for those baying for Isreals annihilation. The leadership in Telaviv will never allow such threats to exist so close..., which makes sense in realpolitik. The problem is that when you introduce these sorts of scorched earth policies to annihilate societies desperate to annihilate you, you either have to go the full hug (which will obviously mean a genocide and so unacceptable), or live with the realisation that sometimes in the future, the survivors of these carnage, will ultimately come back for their own pound of flesh. That means endless an endless cycle of violence. And that is the middle east as we know it.. Offpoint. Israel is practically surrounded. Wetin concern her with Syria border? |

Botragelad: They'll likely do it if they have to. Most countries will defend their "honor" and push back. That's just how it goes. Defending honor against tariffs is a childish tactic. It's just a tariff. Slam yours back and avoid childish rants like cutting electricity. If you cut the electricity, you have automatically lost a source of income. A loss of income from electricity sales plus tariffs will frack up the CAD badly. |

Nobody or country is indispensable. If you are pushed you take a walk.
This is why same people were blaming Zelensky for not grovelling and accepting a deal without knowing what is in it for him. You are funny! How can you conclude a matter when it's just starting? You expect Canada to die immediately? This is so funny. 😅🤣 Canada is toast. So is Mexico. Wait for it. |

BondRiv: Stop confusing yourself. No one is arguing about the importance of money, but it is not why China or Russia doesn't have a military base close to the U.S. It seems the people flooding this section nowadays barely know anything about world politics. You were claiming money was a hindrance to the establishment of military bases closer to the U.S. by the other great powers rivaling the U.S. and I told you that was not the case. You are the confused one. Russia does not have the money oga. If Russia was richer than the USA they would have bought their way to establishing bases close to the USA. They would have been able to bully the US into submission with their financial and military strength. Military strength is a product of money oga. The USA is able to establish bases closer to Russia because Russia is way poorer than the USA. Rest oga. |

Obrigardo: This man has overseen the 4 greatest drops in the stock market in the past 50 years. The American economy is tanking.
Is Nigeria ready for another 2019/2020 economic recession? One that will be 3x bigger?
I don't think so. First, a tanking stock market is not a proper indicator of economic recession. Stock markets are high-risk and exceptionally fickle. Secondly, I agree 💯 with the prediction of coming economic tumult. Nigeria will sadly be hit hard because of its fickle, dependent economy, which is similar to stock markets. |
Crime › Re: Nigeria’s FX Reserves Fall By $1.31 Billion In February Amid Naira Gain by NothingDoMe: 10:46pm On Mar 04, 2025 |
BreconHills: Reserves are in USD so what do they have to do with naira value? Naira value has discouraged imports and led to a positive trade balance of 18bn. A strong currency is no good to a country that wants to stem imports. I am quite happy with the exchange rate- it's true value is no less than 1200
No more fantasy economy.
I dont know which graph you are looking at but the trend lines of that reserve graph show an improvement.
Let's look at the fundamentals supporting the improvement. Increased oil bpd, reduction in outflows on subsidies, positive balance of trade, increased distribution to states. What's not to like?
I get it. You aren't happy. Why should you be? You hate the government. But any one with skills, adaptability and the ability to innovate is quietly confident. Hate is a wasteful emotion. I like facts and logic. Fact: The Naira was trading at around N850 to the USD in January 2024 before crashing to N1900 in February 2024. The government used defense and speculation to bring the FX exchange rate down to N1000 which still backfired against the economy in the end. By the end of 2024, the Naira was at N1700. Fact: The rise of the FX reserves in 2024 witnessed a corresponding devalution of the Naira. The government refused to use the FX reserves to defend the Naira as they stated they wanted to "deregulate" the Naira. Fact: Many businesses pulled out of Nigeria because of the unstable FX and will continue to do so because Nigeria is one of the few countries, if not the only one, that its currency is jumping massively upadan like a yoyo. Fact: The government has pegged the 2025 budget at N1500. You know what that means so no need to explain. Fact: Majority of my personal FX was purchased @ N360 to N860. I decided to invest in FX back then because the naira was unstable. Since many countries, including Nigeria, have FX reserves, I don't see why I shouldn't have as well. |

But they are doing same to Russia under the guise of NATO...this is unfair, they have lots of resources why putting eyes on other countries... Lol. 😅. I guess it's because they have the money to fund the bases. It's not easy to set up bases like you think. |

galserv: Speculators are in serious pains
This is their own way of expressing it It's a double-edged sword. Foreign nationals who exchanged their foreign currency at ₦1700 to invest in the Nigerian securities market will quickly pull their funds out at ₦1500, giving them a gain of a little over 10% in a short period. This pullout has already begun putting pressure on the naira. The more the naira falls, the more pressure it faces. Others also buy foreign exchange when the exchange rate is lower, putting more pressure on the naira. |
Crime › Re: Nigeria’s FX Reserves Fall By $1.31 Billion In February Amid Naira Gain by NothingDoMe: 9:33pm On Mar 04, 2025 |
BreconHills: The reserves are not a savings account - they are also a working account and payments will be made from it to meet obligations. I have attached a 5 year graph of the reserves to provide perspective.
We see what we want to see but if you join a simple trend line using the base of graph it is clear that the long term trend is upwards.
NG is doing very well indeed. 👏 Lol. You again. Going by historical trends in the graph, we should expect FX reserves to continue declining. Also, what was the value of the naira over the five-year period in the graph? The graph should be juxtaposed with the naira's value over that period to determine if Nigeria is truly doing well. Posting only the graph of FX reserves to prove that Nigeria is doing well is one-sided storytelling, also known as propaganda. |
