By the way, I've been wondering. Is that fee demanded at that postal desk legit? Of tens of deliveries I've taken, I have only been issued a receipt (with the resemblance of a bank cheque) for such monies once and that was at the central post office in the state capital. The other places in the suburbs, receipts aren't issued.

I also noticed that one lady at the counter has penchant for altering the amount written on the package. Changes 100 naira to 200, 200 to 300 naira. I am thinking of reporting that irregularity to the central post office in the state capital, but I'm nor sure if I'm just being paranoid here.

The fee is legitimate. It used to be free 2 years ago but the NIPOST saw the need to raise extra money to fund it's operation. However, if you are collecting 4-5 parcels at a time, you are entitled to a discount and the %age discount is calculated @ their discretion.

It is also worth noting that the fee per parcel varies from post office to post office. This is so because each post office unit has a monthly target. So the higher the target the higher the fee per parcel.

My advice to you is to make friends with them, that way you get a better discount when they use their discretion.
