Nairaland GeneralNew Platform To Tackle Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual And Transgender Issues In Nigeria by nspodcast1(op): 4:35pm On Aug 06, 2016
A new innovative online Nigerian platform is set to tackle human rights focused issues in Nigeria.

Mike Daemon of NoStrings spoke to the project director, Mr. Scarface, about the new platform and how it will shape discussions and provoke fresh thoughts around issues affecting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community and as well deal with a wide range of other human rights issues in the country.

Read the interview below.

I am super excited about your new project and I understand that come August 1st, you’ll be launching what will become Nigeria’s first photo-voice online platform tackling human rights issues. Am sure a whole lot of people are curious, so can you tell us a bit more about this project and why do you think this platform is important and needed?

Thanks Mike, I am excited about this as well and being here also. I believe that a way to break through certain societal constructs and normativity is accepting that humans and our experiences are fluid as supposed to being binary. People fear and rebel against what they don’t understand and HOUSE’s goal is to shine light on some of these grey areas, bring it into clearer perspectives and allow people to see that there is more going on out there than we can ever understand and all we can do is live and let live unless if we are lending a helping hand then “live and give others the chance to do the same”.

So, how will this platform work basically, and who can be a part of housecampaign?

This platform combines pictures and experiences. Individuals who are willing to participate and share their experiences in the following but not limiting categories: discrimination, physical and verbal bullying, struggles with sexuality, rape victims, gender & sexuality based assaults etc. can do so by submitting maximum of 100 word narration which should include their name, age and country of residence along with a picture that best describes their experience. A face showing picture is not necessary. Pictures they say is worth a thousand words. So often we have heard of these experiences but very little have we seen what it is like, this gives us a close look at what these feels like. By doing this, people discover what they have in common, it makes gender mainstreaming possible & easier which can lead to social actions to address issues identified & help improve their situations.

On the official HOUSE’s website, it’s stated that HOUSE will provide a safe place for experiences to be shared, experiences that normally would not be allowed in the “conventional” setting. What exactly does this mean, and what experiences are you talking about?

You’ll agree with me that discrimination exists like a plague in our society. Discrimination against people living with HIV, against rape victims, victims of gender based violence, the LGBT community, the girl child in certain communities and the list goes on. Most of these people have just their pillows in the middle of the night to talk to in sobs. But what if they can speak out, express their pain, and share their experiences? What if they can make the world hear them? They might even get support in the process, others that share their pain, a little relief that all can be well again. Wouldn’t it be a good thing?

Apart from putting up stories in pictures, what else will the platform do?

Putting up photo-voices is just a part of it. With this platform referrals can be made, if the need for it arises. Referrals for medical interventions, psychosocial support and counseling, safe houses etc. With these entries, statistics can be inferred and organizations like INCRESE, Queer Alliance, Teirs, SFH, etc. can use this for any planning action including legislation, policies or programmes that concerns the well being of individuals at all levels. And thus, will form an integral part of the designing, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of programmes.

How do you think HOUSE can serve as a safe spot for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Nigerian’s who often suffer discrimination and who constantly live in fear, and can’t express themselves?

In every movement a crucial part is having a stand point and doing this assertively like Martin Lawrence did. And this LGBT Nigerians can do digitally now. They can now speak out in a statement of who they are as opposed to who they are perceived to be. There is freedom in speaking out be in on the internet or a podium. There is no discrimination in HOUSE.

So tell us, what are your overall expectations for HOUSE and what inspired the project?

A need for change is what inspired this project. HOUSE overall expectation is to improve the lives of individuals. To see a decrease in gender based assaults & other human rights violation. To see increased number of policies & organizations supporting the LGBT community, to see availability of professional care givers & counselors willing to render services to patients regardless of gender & sexuality to see an increase in freedom of expression.

Nairaland General10 Huge Lies Told About Gay Men by nspodcast1(op): 9:53am On Jun 20, 2016
Here are 10 of the most problematic myths and stereotypes which play a role in the mischaracterization and dehumanization of gay men.

“Gay men are all feminine.”
The idea that male homosexuality is directly linked with femininity is erroneous. While there are of course some gay men who express themselves (via speech, dress and behavior) in ways which are traditionally “feminine,” there are many others who do not. Men behaving in an effeminate manner is not inherently problematic or deserving of public shaming. What is problematic is the assumption that all gay men display the same type of gender behavior. Gay men, as a group, display tremendous diversity in their expressions and displays of masculinity and femininity. Part of the reason this myth about the “femininity” of gay men survives is because many of the most masculine gay men are not necessarily open about their sexual orientation and/or it is not “assumed” by others that such men are gay. In this regard, the most visible gay men are often those who superficially meet the stereotype of femininity, not those who challenge it.

“Gay men are into fashion, have tidy apartments, and love Madonna!”
Related to myths about the apparent femininity of gay men are other stereotypes about the personalities of gay men. Some of these stereotypes are so strong that it’s as though some people think there really is such a thing as a “gay man’s personality.” In reality, personality differences amongst gay men are as diverse as those across any other group. Yes, there are some gay men who display an interest in fashion, who take care of their appearance, who have meticulously clean apartments, and who are huge fans of Madonna, Cher, and Lady Gaga! There are many other gay men, however, who don’t display these behaviors or interests and many straight men who do display them. While personality-based stereotypes about gay men don’t on the surface seem particularly toxic, they are damaging to the extent that they play a role in homogenizing gay men and concealing their uniqueness as individual human beings.

“Gay men are attracted to all men and can’t control their desires.”
Like any other group of people, men who are homosexual are attracted to only certain types of men who spark their interest or sexual desire. The notion that gay men have some type of universal sexual desire for all men is simply absurd. The dominance of this myth in certain societal contexts, however, creates particular problems for gay men who wish to participate or excel in domains (e.g. sport, military) that are strongly associated with “heterosexual masculinity.” The suggestion that straight men should “fear” having to share sporting change rooms or military quarters with gay men promotes the damaging idea that gay men are essentially predatory, completely incapable of containing their own desires.

“Gay men are promiscuous and obsessed with sex.”
Myths abound about the apparent promiscuity of gay men as though sex with multiple partners and an inability to be monogamous are core features of male homosexuality – they aren’t. Sexual promiscuity, when it occurs, is a human phenomenon that is not uniquely linked with one particular type of sexual orientation. As with any group of people, the sexual behavior of gay men varies tremendously from person to person, with some being very sexually active and others being almost completely celibate. In common with all human beings, gay men have sexual desire. The suggestion by opponents of equality that male homosexual desire is inherently more “sexual” or more “hedonistic” than heterosexual desire is ludicrous.

“Gay men focus on anal sex and mimic male/female sex roles.”
The core feature of male homosexuality is sexual attraction to other men, not an exclusive focus on a particular behavior (e.g. anal sex). There are many different types of behaviors that gay men can engage in when interacting sexually with other men. Anal sex is indeed one such activity, but it’s certainly not an activity that all gay men participate in, nor is it one that heterosexual people never engage in. Questions about homosexual male sex which focus on trying to identify “who is the man” and “who is the woman” mistakenly assume that gay men act out heterosexual roles during anal sex. While some gay men identify strongly with “top/active” or “bottom/passive” roles, many others regard themselves as “versatile” and do not exclusively identify with either role.

“HIV/AIDS is primarily a disease among gay men.”
Within heterosexist and homophobic societal contexts, HIV/AIDS is frequently misrepresented as a disease of gay men. While in the U.S.A. men who have sex with men are over-represented in the population of people who has HIV/AIDS, labeling the illness as a “gay” one dismisses the reality that HIV transmission globally is uniquely associated with one particular group: human beings (of all sexual orientations). The fact that gay men form the single largest group of people with HIV/AIDS in America fails to take into account the various societal and cultural factors which contribute to this occurrence. Societal discrimination against gay men can have direct effects on individuals, impacting self-esteem and leading some men to engage in behaviors which place their health at risk.

READ ALSO: (Revealed) 7 Myths About Sexual Orientation

“Gay men are not relationship-oriented.”
The suggestion that being homosexual would make gay men less able to connect with or fall in love with another person is illogical and has no basis in reality. Opponents of marriage equality demonize gay men as sex-obsessed on the one hand and yet on the other hand refuse to support their access to an institution (marriage) that aims to foster sexual monogamy and life-long interpersonal commitment. What is truly amazing is that throughout history and to this day, so many gay men have been able to sustain long-term committed relationships with a male partner in spite of having to deal with intense societal discrimination and lack of structural support for their relationships. As the legalization of same-sex marriage becomes more widespread, an increasing number of male couples are now choosing to formalize their relationships legally.

“Male homosexuality is caused by parenting or trauma in childhood.”
Many of those who oppose LGBT equality dismiss the biological basis of sexual orientation and promote other theories regarding the development of a homosexual orientation. Some argue that a male homosexual orientation develops as a result of certain types of parenting such as the presence of an overly involved mother and/or an absent father. There is no evidence to suggest that how people parent their children has any direct involvement in the type of sexual orientation a child subsequently develops. Others suggest that sexual abuse in childhood can cause the development of a homosexual orientation. Again, there is no evidence to support this claim. The suggestion that abuse causes the development of a homosexual orientation doesn’t hold up given that many gay men have no such abuse history.

“Gay men can’t be trusted around male children.”
Opponents of equality frequently make both overt and covert efforts to create false associations between male homosexuality and pedophilia. In reality, the two phenomena have nothing in common: gay men are no more likely to sexual abuse children than straight men are. This heinous attempt to mischaracterize gay men as “child predators” and “recruiters” for homosexuality becomes particularly problematic in domains where the care of children is of paramount importance, such as in schools and activity-based organizations (e.g. Boy Scouts). Sadly, in their efforts to avoid the toxic label of “pedophile,” some gay men socially distance themselves from the male children of friends/relatives, avoid employment roles which involve close contact with boys, or refrain from pursuing a life as a foster care or adoptive parent.

“Two gay men as a couple can’t raise healthy and happy children.”
Those who support discrimination against gay men frequently claim that children need a “mom and a dad” in order to prosper in life. Rather than focusing their efforts on preventing heterosexual divorce, such people focus on the alleged dangers of parenting by same-sex couples. In reality, there is no evidence to support the notion that children raised by gay male couples are harmed psychologically, physically or socially as a result of being parented by two men. Thousands of children in America are raised by gay male couples. Social science research from a wide range of settings and disciplines has demonstrated that children raised by same-sex couples (including gay male couples) experience similar outcomes to those raised by opposite-sex couples in relation to psychological, physical and social development.

CrimeThis Man Traps, Rapes, And Extorts Men In Nigeria by nspodcast1(op): 7:07am On Jun 13, 2016
Our attention here at NoStrings has been drawn to a certain Prince David who traps, rapes and extorts men in Nigeria.

If you can recall, then you’ll remember that at a certain time here on NoStrings, we published a story about a young Nigerian man who was raped, and his items collected by an unnamed man whose details were not published at the time.

But after series of disturbing reports from victims, and further investigations, we have decided to publish his identity and information, just so people can be more careful.

His name at least as we know it is Prince David and he is present on Facebook with the ID: https://web.facebook.com/prince.david.923, he claims to be a doctor, and his profile currently shows that he attended Golden Touch High School in Benin City. His profile also shows that he is from Benin City, and currently lives in Benin City, Nigeria.

Before compiling this report, NoStrings tried to reach him, but instead he deleted all his photos and other information from his Facebook profile, and has refused to respond.

HOW DOES DAVID TRAP HIS VICTIMS?

David lures his victims via social media to certain arranged locations, and then rapes and collects their valuables. Afterwards, he’ll threaten them with the current anti-gay law, and promise to further expose them if they try to report or expose him.

Yes, there is a law against homosexuality in the country, but it is nowhere stated in the law that ordinary individuals can/should trap suspected homosexuals and then extort or rape them.

If one is suspected to be a homosexual by another, then the only limit to what any individual can do is to report to the police. Nothing further is required to be done by any individual.

Rape and extortion are both crimes punishable under the laws of Nigeria, so therefore we here at NoStrings is calling on all concerned parties to look into this matter, and arrest Mr. Prince David for committing these crimes and then made to face the full penalties of his wicked actions.

Join us here to campaign for the arrest of Mr. Prince David by using the hash tag #ArrestPrinceDavid

LiteratureThe Secret Lives Of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual And Transgender Nigerians Revealed! by nspodcast1(op): 12:39pm On Jun 09, 2016
Unoma Azuah, a Nigerian human rights activist currently residing in the United States, recently launched a book capturing stories and exposing the lived experiences of LGBT persons living in and outside Nigeria.

Unoma titled the book “Blessed Body” with a shocking caption subtitled as “The Secret Lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Nigerians”

According to the book’s brilliant introduction, the powerful and compelling stories told in it, aims to provoke fresh thoughts around the many misconceptions that people have about homosexuality. For example, it will address the issue of homosexuality being regarded by many as either unAfrican, an illness or immoral.

The book is strongly recommended as a compulsory read for the Nigerian law and policy makers.

NoStrings conducted an exclusive interview with Unoma Azuah to learn about the new book, and on the podcast, she talked about the importance of this book.

“The stories told in this book are mostly true life stories, and these narratives are particularly important because, they are the lived experiences of an oppressed minority group. It is also a crucial work, because it reveals that LGBT folks are humans as everybody else, and so the book educates people on the true nature of the Nigerian LGBT”

Unoma also said that the book does not just have LGBT people as its target readers, but urges everyone to read it. Unoma said: “everybody should read this book, it’s an eye opener, and it will hopefully sway Nigerians, especially the Nigerian law and policy makers”

Nairaland GeneralLove Don’t Care – How It Applies To Homosexuality by nspodcast1(op): 2:17pm On Jun 04, 2016
An interesting song titled love don’t care by Simi a Nigerian singer, reminds me of how the larger Nigerian society is completely biased and ignorant toward the issue of homosexuality.

Love truly does not care whether or not one is gay or whatever. Love is that feeling that connects us to that someone that we have seen as special. We are never forced to have this feeling, it is all natural. It drives us crazy even when we struggle to contain our overwhelming feelings toward the other. It is ever glowing and remains beautiful and unexplainable even as many have tried to explain it. Simply put, love is beyond words and knows no bounds.

Many a times, it comes in different forms shocking even our very selves and has not stopped to surprise us every time. Many look for different ways to battle the feeling when it comes, especially when they feel that it isn’t right due to either what others are saying, or what they have nurtured over a period of time about the definition of love, its nature and how it is supposed to be channeled.

Yes! Love is not all perfect as it comes with its own challenges and troubles, but part of all this, is what makes it what it is – “beautiful” we can never do without it, it is vital to our lives as we need it to stay sane and lead healthy live, as indeed no one deserves to be separated from it.

Societies have over the years struggled with accepting that two people of the same gender can actually fall in love, and they have refused to see the beauty in it, off course this is quite understandable as we are allowed to reason differently and we are never wired to reason the same way. But we should always be reminded that love cannot be controlled and no one needs anybody’s approval to love another, as this is even out of anybody’s control.

When people, especially adults have decided to be together because of what they FEEL for each other and with the full knowledge of what’s involved, it can only make sense that they be allowed the right to be happy, without trying to influence their very expressions. Everyone deserves a chance at happiness. Every individual deserves to be respected and the opportunity to be treated equally, especially when they have done nothing wrong to anyone.

There are decent gay people everywhere, at school, at home, at work, and in our different churches. Some are our pastors, brothers, mothers, fathers, uncles, cousins and what have you, leading peaceful lives, but we only come to have a problem with them when we get to know that they are homosexuals, and for no reason, we become threatened by just their very existence. We are just afraid for nothing.

Of course there are bad homosexuals, but also there are bad heterosexuals too as well, we must just be generally careful who we welcome into our circles, without focusing all our attention on a particular area and lose sight of a possible looming danger at the end where we are not looking. Let’s see people for who they are, and not for their sexual orientation.

I understand that people want to feel safe and all, but what threat does it pose to allow people especially consenting adults the chance to be happy with the people that they have decided to be with? Can love be controlled? Should anyone even be in the position to dictate love and who other people should be in love with? Is it really your business who people fall in love with?

It’s sad that people condemn without providing solutions or do not even have the solutions themselves. Homosexuals are not sick, if they are sick, then provide a cure. The truth remains that, there is no cure, as there is no sickness, there is only love and diversity. So let’s learn to tolerate and apply a deeper level of wisdom by opening up our minds to seeking the very truth about the different things that we have made our concerns, or that is of concern to us.

LiteratureNigerian Novel Sparks Gay Rights Conversation In Africa by nspodcast1(op): 10:47am On Jun 02, 2016
Chinelo Okparanta a Nigerian-American writer sat in an exclusive interview with news24 to discuss her lesbian themed novel titled “Under The Udala Trees”

The novel tells the story of a young woman ‘Ijeoma’ who falls in love with another woman. The book has been nominated for several prestigious awards, and was named one of NPR’s “Best Books of 2015”.

The book has since provoked several conversations around LGBTI issues in Africa, as it goes against the popular belief that homosexuality is immoral or a crime, but proves yet again that it is always about love, something that many have refused to accept.

No doubt, the issue of homosexuality remains a taboo subject in Nigeria, and even many who are homosexuals finds it difficult to accept the reality of being gay, and this is especially due to the homophobic environment in the country. But times are gradually changing and people are beginning to embrace the trueness of who they are, and to many who are LGBT in Nigeria, the book will indeed prove to be an excellent read.

Nairaland General(PICTURES) Outrage In University: Two Homosexuals Discovered Making Love by nspodcast1(op): 1:39pm On May 31, 2016
An unnamed 100 level male undergraduate student of fashion design at the Chinhoyi University of Technology in Zimbabwe yesterday produced and released a pornographic video of him and another man making love, which has since gone viral.

In the video, the university student and his partner were making love in what seems to be an activity that took place at the university’s residence, and this very act has provoked the school’s authorities.

The country’s Minister of higher and tertiary education Jonathan Moyo described the act as simply ”bogass” saying, “How can another man indulge in sexual activities with another male?”

He continued:

“There has been too much publications of Midlands state university as being the only university that produce pornographic tapes and has since affected the institution but it’s wrong.. All Zimbabwean universities students are trying to westernize everything not knowing it’s wrong. This matter will be dealt with immediate effect”

Heterosexuals do this all the time, so therefore this shouldn’t be of any surprise to anyone seeing two humans engage in an act of love. A careful look at the pictures without any form of bias, one would see that the two people are happy and seem to be in love with each other. Shouldn’t this matter at all? And to further speak honestly on this subject, looking at the pictures and all, we do not think that the video in question was meant for public show.

And talking about Westernizing, there is nothing western or not western about love, as it knows no color, ethnicity or sex. Every single human being has the ability to love, and desires to do this freely and expects this in return. Homosexuals in this case are humans too and so therefore are not excluded from enjoying this very beautiful gift that nature has offered.

We are deeply worried that people will continue to prey on the lives of adults who finds happiness in the arms of whomever. We are also very disturbed that people have refused to see an act of love whenever and however it is expressed, but will choose to sexualise everything especially as it concerns gay people and then administer swift judgments, condemning their fellow humans without bothering to find out the truth about these very issues that they have made their concerns.

Music/RadioNigerian Singer Releases New Song About Homosexuality by nspodcast1(op): 10:54am On May 29, 2016
Chisom Iheangwaram, a Nigerian singer and songwriter, recently released an LGBT themed song that speaks to the struggles and discrimination experienced by LGBT persons in the country.

The beautiful and well crafted song titled “Why Love Is A Crime” talks about the despair, laments and literally begs an answer to a question that has remained unanswered and avoided by many.

The song samples the different elements of a typical raggae music, and in an unwavering attempt, speaks to the obvious TRUTH that homosexuality is truly about LOVE and does no harm to anyone.

Surely, this is much needed and appreciated especially at this time in the country where many wallow in ignorance and still regard homosexuality as a taboo, immoral or something purely sexual.

This is indeed a welcomed initiative and serves as a wonderful gift to the LGBT community in Nigeria, who have suffered a lot under the country’s draconian homophobic laws.

For this, we at NoStrings say thank you Chisom for the truth revealed and the strength that your music brings, as we gradually approach freedom and remain hopeful.

Your music reminds us all that Love always wins, and its sure to win again!

So, we at NoStrings therefore declare this as the first true Nigerian LGBT Anthem.

Arresting homosexuals in a country where it is forbidden is not a misplaced priority
Nairaland GeneralNigeria, Face Your Problems, Not Homosexuals – Leo Igwe by nspodcast1(op): 1:11pm On May 28, 2016
The recent arrest of six young men in Nigeria for the ‘supposed crime’ of homosexuality has once again demonstrated the misplaced priorities of the Buhari-led government. The arrest casts serious doubt on its supposed commitment to transforming Nigeria.

Going by recent developments, hope is fading very fast and disillusionment is setting in as many people are beginning to realize that the change mantra may end up being a ruse, a strategy that was used to win an election. The proposed change is a farce, at least when it comes to the dignified treatment of gay persons otherwise, how does one explain the current detention of some young men by police in Benin for engaging in homosexuality? As if the arrest of these adults was not disturbing enough, the police further paraded them before the public and humiliated them.

The clearly laid back Assistant Inspector General of the Police, Musa Daura, issued a statement that would make an external observer cringe. Daura made it seem as if the arrest had more to do with breaking religious and traditional taboos, not state laws. His statement has literally foreclosed any chances for just and fair hearing for these young men. Is that what change is all about? The ‘suspects’ have been declared guilty even when the investigation has not been concluded and the trial has not commenced. What kind of policing is this?

The government of Buhari, which came into power on the platform of change, must realize that Nigerians are yearning for a forward, not a backward looking change when it comes to the treatment of homosexuals. The Buhari change project must be in tandem, not at odds with the wind of progress that is sweeping across the world. In executing the change project, the Buhari government must think globally while acting locally. It must think love not hate.

This global wave of change does not sanction the arrest and prosecution of young adults for same sexual relationships. No, not at all. It does not condone or endorse homosexuality as a crime. Instead it is demanding a change of attitude towards homosexuals and homosexuality. Yes, the current wave of change urges the decriminalization of homosexuality and the recognition of the rights of homosexuals as human rights.

The process of change in the world demands that people be sanctioned for engaging in homophobic acts not homosexual practice. It calls for an end to homophobic policing as is the case in Benin and in other parts of Nigeria.

Thus if one considers the enormous security challenges that Nigeria faces at the moment including the pervasive cases of violent crime and conflict across the country, it is evident that devoting the limited police force to investigating and prosecuting consensual sexual relationships and to monitoring what adults do in their bed rooms is obviously misguided. It is fiddling while the country burns.

HealthMy Experience, Being Gay And HIV Positive In Nigeria – Ola by nspodcast1(op): 2:35pm On May 03, 2016
Ola a 20 years old student of The University of Lagos Nigeria, has opened up about his experiences on the NoStrings podcast about living with HIV and being gay in Nigeria.

He explained on the podcast about how he opened up to his health councilor concerning his sexual orientation, and the reaction he got, also about how his family is currently coping with realizing that he is HIV positive.

HIV/AIDs has over the years been linked to homosexuality by both epidemiologists and health professionals, especially as it was first discovered in the early 80’s in five homosexual men who showed serious symptoms of the virus?

Many have used this fact to oil an argument, claiming that HIV is a gay disease. Now in truth, most homosexuals engage in frequent unprotected sexual activities mostly as a way of escaping the homophobic realities that they consistently experience from the society, and thus leading to risky and reckless sexual behaviors. And these behaviors, further increases the number of LGBT persons exposed to the virus, eventually leading to an increasing number of infected LGBT persons.

And to make matters worse, sadly, some religious institutions, and even individuals within these religious organizations has continued to ignorantly attribute the cause of HIV to homosexuals and homosexuality. Some claim that HIV is a curse from their God on homosexuals for engaging in immoral and what they call a detestable lifestyle.

Clearly, HIV is not a gay disease, as just anyone could get infected, regardless of sex, ethnicity, or sexual orientation; However, HIV still severely affects homosexuals across the globe.

A leading factor that has led to the widespread of the disease is the constant promotion of widespread homophobic behaviors. Discrimination is also a key factor in this very sad resulting outcome.

Most LGBT people live in fear and isolation, dealing with internalized homophobia, depression, guilt and shame, and are busy going through all these things with less time to focus on their health, and caring less about getting tested and staying healthy.

They fear exposure, as they may not freely be able to discuss issues concerning their health in general for fear of being discriminated against.

Of what relevance is this to the above conversation?

Anti-LGBTI laws: Nigeria
Nigerian law provides for a 14-year prison sentence for homosexual acts involving either men or women. In addition, a new law, enacted Jan. 7, 2014, provides for prison sentences of 10 years for Nigerians belonging to a gay organization, supporting same-sex marriages, or displaying same-sex affection in public. It also calls for up to 14 years in prison for any Nigerian who marries a member of the same sex.

In 12 Nigerian states in the north, sharia law also applies. For homosexual activity, that law provides for capital punishment for men, lashing or imprisonment for women. However, in its report on capital punishment in 2011, Amnesty International noted no executions in Nigeria.

According to the 2011 report on laws about homosexuality worldwide from the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, Nigerian law on homosexual activity is codified in Chapter 77 of the Criminal Code Act:

Criminal Code Act, Chapter 77, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 147

Section 214. “Any person who

(1) has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature; or

(2) has carnal knowledge of an animal; or

(3) permits a male person to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature;

is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.

Section 215. “Any person who attempts to commit any of the offences defined in the last preceding section is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for seven years. The offender cannot be arrested without warrant.”

Section 217. “Any male person who, whether in public or private, commits any act of gross indecency with another male person, or procures another male person to commit any act of gross indecency with him, or attempts to procure the commission of any such act by any male person with himself or with another male person, whether in public or private, is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for three years. The offender cannot be arrested without warrant.”

Of what relevance is this here? Okparajesus, you are a homosexual. You clearly are in denial, and you hate yourself for it.
OkparaJesus:
Anti-LGBTI laws: Nigeria
Nigerian law provides for a 14-year prison sentence for homosexual acts involving either men or women. In addition, a new law, enacted Jan. 7, 2014, provides for prison sentences of 10 years for Nigerians belonging to a gay organization, supporting same-sex marriages, or displaying same-sex affection in public. It also calls for up to 14 years in prison for any Nigerian who marries a member of the same sex.

Diana Abasi Ibanga, A Nigerian Researcher revealed details about possible homosexual practices forming part of his history in Akwa Ibom State, and also revealing thoughts that, homosexuality is a natural human phenomenon.

In Nigeria, people often claim that homosexuality is a borrowed phenomenon from the Western cultures. This forming part of the many reasons why the government placed a ban on homosexuality, claiming that it stands clearly against its cultures. But this Nigerian Researcher, revealed in a TVC News video footage that there are proofs showing traces of female homosexuality forming part of his cultures in his community in Akwa Ibom State. He said:

“The history of Africa has shown that we have been having homosexual phenomenon in this Africa. Even in African communities, so many African communities, even in my own community”

“I found out through my research, that in my community/tribe – Anang, that is in Akwa Ibom State. You have women, who were always in closet with a fellow woman, they call them husbands/Ebe, that is a woman calling a fellow woman husband, and now this people can be in closet for hours. They won’t allow other people to penetrate. And they’ll be keeping friendships between themselves. And now we don’t know what happens in those closets”

He further revealed that there have always been traces of homosexual practices in Africa, he confirmed by saying:

“Steven F. Morin, documented over 40 different African communities who’ve have had homosexual experiences in the past and even in the present. So I don’t know where it is un-African. This is a human phenomenon, and since it is a human phenomenon. Are Africans not human beings? They are human beings”

He proceeded to speak on Nigeria’s Anti-Gay Law, he said:

“This is an aberration on human rights. or, is [the law] now trying to say that homosexuals are not human beings? Because what is the essence of sentencing people? Is it to punish them, or to rehabilitate them? Now, it has been claimed [in the past] that this people were once sick, that they can be ‘rescued’ from this phenomenon. Now if this is what the Nigerian society is thinking, because that is what they were saying in the senate. Then why pass a 14years jail term? You should be rehabilitating them if you think that you can rehabilitate them”

He also acknowledged that homosexuality is only natural, African, and a valid human sexual orientation, he said:

“We should understand that this is human nature, and if it is human nature, then there’s no jail term that can change it. Even if you give people a 100years”

“My findings is that homosexuality is thoroughly African, in fact, we have more homosexuals in Africa, than in the Europe, before the advent of Christianity, I also discovered that homosexuality as a sexual orientation is a biological construct of the human body. And therefore no one can change the orientation. It’s like heterosexuality. That too cannot be changed. So if you cannot change heterosexuality, you cannot just change homosexuality”

He further proceeded to speak on homophobia and intolerance in the Nigerian society. He said:

“We don’t need this intolerance in the society, when you look at certain ideologies that drove Africa in the past, like in Igbo, they have the concept of ‘live and let live’ what is that supposed to stand for? Even if you have certain things that are considered aberration its cultures, they still allow you to stay. So there should be sexual tolerance in the society. In fact even the bible supports homosexuality. When you go to the Christian bible, in Galatians, there’s a place where Paul said: “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave or free, man or woman” What is this supposed to mean? In the sight of God, there is neither man nor woman. We are all without sexual orientations! Now if you come to the issue of soul, does soul have a sex? So there should be sexual tolerance in the society. If there are people who are heterosexuals in the society, they should also know that there are individuals who are homosexuals too. We should not deal with people on the basis of their sexual orientation”

CrimeMan Raped By A Fake Police Officer In Delta by nspodcast1(op): 2:12pm On Apr 10, 2016
A young Nigerian man has opened up to NoStrings about how he was set up in Asaba Delta State Nigeria, and his valuables collected.

A man called Bola traveled from Lagos to Ibadan, and was eventually set up in Delta State Asaba, Nigeria.

It happened that he has been chatting with a man on Facebook who claimed to be a doctor.

Upon his arrival at an arranged hotel in Asaba, this man collected his debit cards and other valuable items from him, using an internet banking app to transfer all his funds, amounting to about 85,000 naira.

This man claimed that he was a police officer in disguise, and as well, threatened him with the recently signed Anti-Gay Law.

But this wickedness did not stop there. This so called police officer also raped him without any protection and later followed the victim up to where he joined a bus back home.

We have details of this man, including his picture, but we cannot release it, as the victim’s life will be put at risk. This man has the victim’s school ID card and has threatened to hurt him if he gets anyone involved.

We are making further enquiries into this issue, and will see the outcome of whatever happens.

This is clearly an act of wickedness and a crime has been committed here. This Wicked man needs to face the law for extortion and impersonation
